Windows 8.1 search of network drives shows UNC path based results

How do I go about showing the network drive based path as opposed to the UNC based path in Windows 8.1?
In Windows 7 when the user searched for files on a network drive it displayed results that contained the network drive. In Windows 8.1 these searches yield the UNC
path.
For example, Windows 7, if I search for TestFile.docx on Z: it will show a result such as "Z:\SomeFolder\SubFolder\TextFile.docx"
Windows 8.1, if I search for TestFile.docx on Z: it will show a result such as "\\SomeServer\SomeFolder\SubFolder\TextFile.docx"

Hi,
Actually, I tested in my Windows 8.1 system, the result is that it does show (example)"Z:\folder" as the search result, like as Windows 7 system, here's the snapshot:
Or am I missunderstanding something? a snapshot from your result would be helpful.

  • Windows 7 mapped network drive. shows as disconnected, cannot remove, not showing in registry

a mapped drive shows as disconnected but still work in terms of getting into the shared network folder on our NAS.  but i want to remove it.  the commapnt prompt command wont do it.  you cant disconnected it because it doesnt see a networked
drive.  and i looked in the registry and there isnt a registry entry for the mapped drive. in the mountpoint2 or whatever.

To troubleshoot, disconnect the connection first. Please refer to:

  • Network drives showing repeating copies of directory content

I'm experiencing a weird issue with mapped network drives under Windows 7. Sometimes it will list the contents of a directory normally, others it will list hundreds of copies of the contents, and sometimes it will keep listing them over and over without stopping. Occasionally refresh will show the contents correctly but it's a **** shoot. It's happening on all network drives. Server is running OES under SUSE 11 sp3 with the latest update from the beginning of the month. Have not done the distribution upgrade yet. Workstation I'm on is running Novell Client 2 SP3 for Windows 7 (IR5). I haven't noticed the issue on XP computers. Any idea what could be causing this? It seemed to start sometime in January or early February.

Thanks that looks like the issue I'm having. Guess it's just wait until it's fixed since there is no resolution.

  • Windows 7 (Client) map a network drive VPN Snow Leopard Server

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server and are using a VPN service.
My services on the mac os x sls server are: AFP, DNS, Firewall, Open Directory, SMB and VPN.
I can connect the VPN from Mac clients and Windows 7 clients, but I can only map a network drive/share point on Mac´s.
On Windows 7 I get an error: path or name not found ( I am sure using the correct path, same from Mac client that works).
When I am using my internal network LAN I can map a network drive using Windows 7 and Mac but outside over a VPN not (only Mac works).
The only service, at this moment,  that I need is File Sharing outside my network LAN using a VPN.
How can I map a network drive from a Windows 7 client using a VPN, is there any Firewall rules / SMB rules / File Sharing rules that I missed on the server side?
    Thank You.

I really don't know what are going wrong with my settings. As you said/write it must be an easy setup.
I'm using a Time Capsule and used the Server app to add VPN to the port forwarding also.
When I am connected thru the VPN I tried to ping the Server IP and got no answer from it, from W7 client!?
My Mac's are just working fine with AFP and SMB share points thru the VPN.
I think I have missed some settings from the SMB or Firewall services for VPN with W7 client's or it is a Windows issue.....

  • Powershell script to search a network drive for .mdb files and export them to CSV file

    Hello all,
I'm trying to search one of our network drives for old .mdb files, I want to write the name, location and date last modified to a csv file.
    Get-WmiObject -Class CIM_DataFile -Filter "Drive='S:' And Extension='mdb'
     AND ObjFile.drive
     AND objFile.FileName
     AND objFile.FileSize
     AND objFile.LastWriteTime" |
    Export-CSV c:\mdb_search\mdbfiles.csv\
Obviously this isn't working or I wouldn't be posting.  I've tried many different examples from the net with no joy for now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Thanks, that did the job.
    Cheers, you're welcome.
How do I get the powershell cursor to return to C:> ?
Should I use "exit" or "break" ?
Neither, the console will return to a prompt when the search has been completed.

  • Windows 7 will not recognize network drive on airport extreme

Good day.  I created a network drive using a WD my book 1tb hard drive.  I formatted it to fat32.  Windows 7 does not see the hard drive, but the WD software can find it and the apple extreme router can also see the hard drive.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

    Hi 2pfspiff,
To verify if you can connect to the drive at all, you may want to try to manually mount it from the Windows machine. The following article has some generall steps for mounting an Airport Extreme USB hard drive under XP and Vista, but the steps should be similar under Windows 7.

  • Is there a 3rd party App to search a networked drive?

We have recently moved from archiving our graphic files on cheap external drives, to a secure server. It's a Unix based server. We can access files just fine, but we can no longer search our files! Is there a 3rd party app for Mac (Snow Leopard, Lion), tat can search networked drives?

I wouldn't recommend wasting any money on an app. If you have a Mac with iPhoto then it should be pretty easy, but if you have a PC, I would recommend creating a folder (Doesn't matter what you name it or where it is) and going to the Photos tab when you're syncing and selecting that folder. Then you'll have to go to "*My Computer*" and drag and drop the photos to that folder you created. Then you can create sub-folders and and organize all your photos. A problem is that your iPhone can only read one level of sub-folders, but that shouldn't affect this task. I hope this helps! If you still can't figure it out, then try going to an *Apple Store* and ask a "Genius" for help.

  • Replace Mapped Drives with UNC Paths via Group Policy Preferences

We are currently using Group Policy Preferences to map network drives to drive letters for our users.  Given the risk of ransomware, etc. these days we want to provide users with a UNC link rather than a mapped drive letter.  Can anyone tell me
the best way to do this?
    Thanks,

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 display "Network drives disconnect" with a red X

I wrote a script for using Group Policy to achieve a function where navigate to "Comupter Configuration"--"Windows Settings"--"Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)"--"Startup", then i put the script what is
for "network mapping" things into "Scripts", then i restart the target machines for updating policy, but it showed that there is a "red X" even though i can open this network path. how could the "red X" disappear?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your feedback.
Based on your description, I am not sure if it is due to the script. Maybe you can ask in the
MSDN forum to make sure that the script is correct.
In addition, I also suggest creating the mapped driver via Group Policy Preferences. For more detailed information, please refer to the links below:

  • Still No Network Drives Showing in Bridge but Everywhere else?

I am still somewhat confused because if I go to open a file in CS4 I have the option to browse my network; there is a network icon there and as soon as I click on it my network is immediately accessible. When I open up Lightroom to import pictures I have the same network icon and as soon as I click on that the network is again just there.
However when I open up Bridge, it says building criteria and when it has finished it only shows me the drives attached to the computer I am currently using and there is no network icon to click on, so why is this the case when Photoshop can see it and so can Lightroom?
Can anyone figure this out because it just does not make sense!

  • MDT windows 7 Deployment issue with Network driver

I am deploying windows 7 64bit using MDT 2010. the PC I am deploying to is HP proDesk 600 G1 SFF, and the NIC card is intel (R) I217.
When I deploy the customised image, there is no problem during the WinPE stage, I can press F8 and run ipconfig /all to see all the NIC details, which means the correct driver is injected to the PE image.
The issue comes after the OS installation completes, after rebooting into the system and auto login as admin, the error pops up indicating no connection to the deployment share, it is actually the NIC driver not installed!
I checked the Hardware ID, it is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&SUBSYS_18E7103C&REV_04
I can find this ID in drivers.xml under deploymentshare/control, I believe this indicates there is a driver available for it.
but in the deployment log ztidrivers.log, it shows
    <![LOG[Skipping Device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&SUBSYS_18E7103C&REV_04 No 3rd party drivers found. 11]LOG]!><time="09:21:02.000+000" date="05-07-2014" component="ZTIDrivers" context="" type="1"
    thread="" file="ZTIDrivers">
I can install the driver manually with no issues.
I downloaded different versions of the driver and tried hundred times but result is the same.
anyone can point me to the right direction? I have been struggling with this for quite a while.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You should inject driver to install image which will finally present in system you installed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Network drives show while connected

I have a WD NetworkCenter Drive connects to the network via CAT5, here is the poser, this will not connect or be seen while I am wireless, but once I plug in the CAT5 Cable, all SHARED drive connections are there. Would some one please tell me what am I missing here? I have a MBP with the latest and greatest OS, up to date, and am connecting through and Airport Express.

    Thank you for the reply
    1. I have looked all over as to where I can set the router mode and cannot find anything referring to what you posted.
    2. The default router address the the home is based on starts with 192.168.58.55 the WD Netcenter Drives IP is 192.168.58.106 , so to me thats GOOD TO go Correct?
    3. I am accessing the Airport Express Via, the Airport Utility in the Utilities section on my MBP

  • Redirected folders show UNC path in address bar

    Hi,
I'm using folder redirection for our user accounts and have redirected the Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos. The redirection process work fine apart from the fact users can go into any of these folders then click in the address bar and see and navigate
    the whole UNC file path.
For example, when I logon: I can click on my name on the start menu and go into the 'My Music' folder. In the address bar I can see
Matt Courtman > My Music but if I then click into the address bar this changes to the path of the redirected folder -
\\server\usershare$\mcourtman\music this then allows them to have a look around the server, although they can't access anyone elses data.
    Can this be stopped?
    Many thanks, Matt

    Hi,
Did this issue occur on all accounts?
I would like to suggest you re-configure folder redirection to check what the result is:

  • How do I get network drives to show in left panel of media browser

Okay, I'm new to audition.  When I start Audition's media browser, only the local HDD's are shown.  If I OPEN FILE, I can navigate to find tyhe network drive and Audition will open the file.  Also the network drives show in Windows Explorer.  I searched the FAQs and the help file, but maybe I'm not using the "magic words"  So, how to I get these network drives to appear?
Windows 7 64 bit home premium
home built 3.67 gb Intel Quad core, 12 GB RAM, Several local HDDs
    Audition CS6
    Thank you

I'm not sure this is correct.  I have mapped a NAS to drive "Z" and mapped a drive on my video editing desktop to drive "Y."  These both show up in the left panel of the media browser for Premiere and Photoshop as the share names  "MYDOCS" and "BAAAA,"  as well as in Windows Explorer.  But not in Audition. Only the local drives are shown in Audition's media browser.
I can open a file in audition by using BROWSE by clicking on "MYDOCS" or "BAAAA" as they appear in the Windows Explorer file dialong and then navigating on those drives to the desired files.
What am I missing?  Do others have their network drives show in the left panel of Audition's media browser?
