Windows 8.1 - Sign In Options

Hi everyone,
OK so I've deployed some new Lenovo tablets with Windows 8.1 Pro.
After doing the latest round of updates, the sign in screen no longer defaults to the 'Local or Domain' account option.
So users have to click on 'Sign In Options', then select the left key icon and then they can login with their domain accounts.
The machines are of course added to our domain.
Now as a public organisation, we won't be asking users to link their MS accounts to any Windows 8 / 8.1 machines.  I've had a quick look on the local Group Policy but can't find anything that will allow me to set the Local or Domain Account sign in
option as the default.
So my questions are:
1)  How do I set the Windows 8.1 Sign In options to default to the 'Local or Domain Account' option?
2)  Can I disable the Microsoft Account sign in option?
Thanks for your help.
Fahid

Hi,
For the first question, we might take a workaround to disable
do not display the last user logon name
in logon screen policy, this makes the last user name displays on the logon screen. If the user logged in domain, then it will stay in the domain accounts.
Regarding Microsoft account sign-in, we could block it using Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts policy(available on Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8/8.1):
GPO_name\Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options
More information, please see:
Accounts: Block Microsoft accounts
Also some workaround:
How to block Microsoft accounts in Windows 8 without Server 2012

  • G50-70 Windows 10 and sign-in options

just clean installed W10 that everything working OK except Windows Hello didn't offer the Camera/Iris sign-in option.anyone else has the same problem? any idea how to get it please. many thanks in advance

    hi AlanY,
As a requirement to use Windows Hello, you will need a camera with a specialized illuminated infrared camera like the Intel RealSense 3D Camera. The G50-70 can only come with either an HD (720p) or 0.3M regular camera doesn't  have a fingerprint reader.
A regular webcam will not work with Windows Hello which may explain why you're not seing the additional sign-in options (Camera, Iris, or Fingerprint)

  • Windows 8.1 Lost Sign in Options

    Hi,
So I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro that I am working on.  It has a built in fingerprint reader and that has worked fine for a couple of days.  However all of a sudden this morning I lost all the sign in options with windows.  I can still set them
up under PC settings.  The picture password, and even setup finger prints.  So it does detect the device and will allow me to use it under the PC settings.  However if the user adds any of them to sign on besides just his normal password it
doesn't give him the option to use them at the sign in screen.  Since I'm fairly new to Windows 8 myself not sure where to look to check the sign in options under there.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.
Forgot to add.  I have checked updates to see if there was one installed that caused problems.  Nothing installed since a week before this started.

    Hi Paul ,
You have two sign in options and now the fingerprint reader sign in option is lost, right?
We can try these methods to solve this problem:
1.Update the Windows Biometric Interface Driver and the fingerprint reader driver
2.Ensure the Windows Biometric Service runs automatically.
To check this :Run services.msc and look for this service and make it run automatically
    3.Check the Biometrics Group Policy.
    To check Group Policy
Run gpedit.msc and check this path Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Biometrics

  • Windows 8 Sign-in Options Missing

In windows 8 after restarting the computer for the most recent update the Sign-in Options that allow you to switch between PIN or Password is missing. I am using a PIN code however now it is currently stuck on Password making me unable to log into my account.
How do I make the Sign-In Options appear again ??

After searching for a solution on and off for a couple of months, I managed to reactivate the PIN function by myself. Yay! The problem: I don't remember what exactly I did and I cannot reproduce the result so far, but here's what I believe
    I did:
    1. Hover to a right corner
    2. Click "Search"
    3. Change the pull down menu from "Everywhere" to "Settings"
    4. Type-in "policy". "Reset Security Policies" will show up in the result.
    5. Click "Reset Security Policies". This will open "Control Panel" -> "User Accounts and Family Safety" -> "User Accounts"
    6. Click "Reset Security Policies" at the bottom of the left pane. A warning window will pop up.
    7. Accept the warning.
Now go to "PC settings" -> "Accounts" -> "Sing-in options". Voila! "Add" button under "PIN" should be enabled. I restarted my laptop before enabling PIN, but it might not be necessary. I needed to turn on my antivirus software after resetting.
Now I don't see "Reset Security Policies" in the control panel anymore, but it seems this is what is supposed to happen: I don't have any security policy to reset in the first place. I removed an Exchange account that had caused all this problem from Outlook
and added it back, but it didn't disable PIN function this time. Thus I haven't been able to replicate this method so far. Hope this will help.

  • Windows 8 Sign in option is missing

Suddenly i can not see the sign in option in the log on screen, its keep asking me to enter the password, i remember the pin but forgot the password,
never bothered about creating the rescue disk
Not able to log in to the system, kindly help
    Regards
    Manish Pandya

    Hi Manish,
The sign-in option might be disabled by some reasons.
You may follow the thread provided by S.Sengupta to enable it again.
Regaring enable Windows Recovery environment, if you would like to use Refresh/Reset option, I am afraid you need to enter the password again.
Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)
Besides, you may contact the manufacturer side and see if they could offer any further help.

  • In Create Collection Window - Sync to Lightroom mobile option is missing

    Hi,
I recently installed Lightroom CC (Latest Version) and there is one thing I can't figure out.
When I Create a new collection, in the Create Collection window there isn't the option "Sync with Lightroom mobile".
The last option in that window is Set as target collection
I saw in the manuals and tutorials that it should be there, and it is missing, because I want to sync with LR on my mobile phone.
I'm definitely connected to Creative Cloud with my Adobe ID (and using beside LR another adobe CC apps)
I tried to uninstalled and reinstalled LR and the problem persists.
    What should I do?
    Mac Pro 2010, OS 10.9.5
    Thanks
    T

The checkbox isn't there because the catalogue isn't signed in to LrMobile. This is done at the top left of the screen - click the identity plate area.

  • Sign-in options is missing

Suddenly I cannot see the sign-in options at the logon screen, this means that I cannot change between Picture password, pin and written password.
I can only use the standard written password, if I look at the account options there is added fx the Picture password.
I use a live account, the tablet is not added to a domain, it is running win 8.1 pro.
    What has happend?
    Please help :)
    Kind regards
    Niels Stoffer

You can get further than this guy then.

Note my edit about my experience with my Surface RT where my proposed workaround (toggling display state with Win-P) worked for me.   YMMV.
I didn't realize the OP had bailed out and done a Refresh.  Hope that isn't your resolution too.   <eg>

  • Set smart card as default "sign-in option"?

Just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to set the default logon prompt as smart card?
Currently, it prompts you with the last used method (i.e. username and password or smart card and pin).
I know that you can force smart card only logon by "scforce" Group Policy (Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Option), but I want to keep the options and just make it a default option.
I also tried changing the "LastLoggedOnProvider" in the to the smartcard option here "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI" and here "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\SessionData",
but this did not make any difference.

Hi Karen. I would like user to be presented with "smart card sign-in" as the default option. Sorry, I cannot final a relevant image on-line of what this looks like in 8.1. But I also want the option of username and password to still be available.
This can be done by clicking on "sign-in options".
For example in the W7 image below, you can see what the smartcard default logon looks like. But you still have the "switch user" button which gives the option of alternative logon methods.
As stated earlier, I don't want the GP to force "Interactive logon: Require smart card", as this will mean smartcard is the ONLY method available of logging in.

  • Firefox keeps making me sign in to email though I've checked the keep me signed in option

It also started to freeze a lot. these problems started when I updated to 4.0. I don't know what version I had before that. I went back and got 3.6.3 and it doesn't freeze but I still have to sign into att yahoo email frequently each day. very annoying. attyahoo help chat tried to help by switching from the "leave signed in option" to a different frequency and then back to "leave signed in". It worked for one or two times then went back to telling me to sign in again.

  • Cannot install Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant.

Well, I am having some issues installing "Windows Live Essentials" update and "Games for Windows Marketplace". I have found that the cause of this is from "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant", (wllogin_64.msi) which I am unable to install.
    Things I have tried:
Removed every live related application with the windows cleanup tool.
Tried to install wllogin_64.msi as administrator.
Tried to install wllogin_64.msi in safe mode.
Restored from an earlier system point.
    Ran chkdsk.
Ran a virus and spyware scan.

I would really like some help on this one, I have games that I bought through the marketplace and I can't access them without this sign-in assistant.

Hi, I'm having the same issue as the OP. I just recently got Resident Evil 5 for PC. I've had it like a month and I can't get it to work. At first I tried it on my desktop, which runs on XP, and I found out part of my issue was the fact that some of my parts
are out of date. However, I could never get Games For Windows Live to work because it would never connect to download my profile because of a "network error". I later found out that there's something called hotfix.exe that you need to have to get it to work.
I looked THIS up and found it on the Microsoft website and then found out, thankfully, before I ran it that someone else had been having the same issue as me with Left 4 Dead, and when they installed hot fix it crashed their computer, and they no longer have
    an operating system.
So I did NOT run hotfix.exe on my desktop. I have been since waiting to get my laptop back to install it. It runs on Windows 7, and is considerably newer. Now, I have sat here for 7 hours waiting for RE5 to install. It installed, finally and brought up the
game screen. I went to sign into GFWL, and it worked! However, it also said that there an "update" that needed to be completed and gave me
bullshit saying that if I didn't do it, it would sign me out. (This is also the same message it has been giving me whenever I try to sign into Messenger. It should also be noted that as well as with messenger, it won't fucking install.)
So, anyway, I downloaded and installed the update. It closed out the game, started it back up and I went through the same process again. I downloaded this mysterious update THREE times. Finally, I restarted my computer. I went back into the game and was
met with the same message again. This time I closed it out and went to run Games For Windows Live to see if maybe I could find a list of needed updates and do them all at once. It told me I needed the sign-in assistant to run it so I went to download that.
Like OP, I'm being met with the same issue. It just goes through the process every time and always closes out because of some "error". On top of this, now I can't even get Resident Evil 5 to start. It keeps giving me yet ANOTHER "error" message. I don't
know what to do next aside from un-install it and try again, but I sat here for
six fucking hours waiting on it to install the FIRST time. This is also the third computer I have sat and waited to try and install this game on. I am at a total loss, and I'm very, very angry. If I may rant for a second:
What the fuck are all these mysterious "errors" I keep having on a new computer that's running perfectly, and why the fuck don't they explain what the goddamn error is so I can fix it? (In hindsight, that might be in the logs but I've been to angry to look
    into them.)
And also, in my searching for fixes for this problem, I've come across posts from 2008 and 2009 of people having
the same issues. Explain to me why the it's 2011 and it's STILL not fixed?
I am not happy with Microsoft right now, at all. I think it's bullshit you have to even sign up for an account to even save the info. None of the many other games I play do that. And how are we supposed to be able to play the goddamn games if Games For Windows
Live is glitched? I've never done anything with GFWL before this so I didn't know it was having these issues. Do I need to search EVERY aspect of a game AND it's software AND the people that made it available to make sure I can play it now?
Is spending 2 thousand dollars on computers from Microsoft and another 30 on a game not enough of a payment to be able to
    play the fucking game?

To connect my ipod to itunes with windows 8 not see the option to add to add songs from itunes library. As I can solve this?

Since you can only sync your iPod with one computer at a time, you'll need to copy the contents currently on your iPod to your new iTunes library first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different ways to accomplish this task.
