Windows 8.1 Some tiles won't start

In Windows 8.1 Enterprise some metro-apps open: Mail, Agenda, Skydrive, Dropbox
And some won't: Video, Music, Skype. The pictogram becomes fullscreen and dissapears directly.
The antivirus I use is the standard Windows Defender and no other.
I deleted and re-installed 8.1 Enterprise.
The problem is with a Microsoft account and with a local account.
The fix-it for apps "appsdiagnostic.diagcab" also didn't work.
Windows and all apps are up-to-date.
Any more ideas?

Hi Peter,
Is this a physical computer? Have you updated all the drivers for your specific hardware? Please also check the
Device Manager to see if there are any items with yellow warning icons.
Next, please check the Event Viewer to see if there are specific error messages that will help us identify this issue. Right click on the start button to bring up the administrative menu and choose ‘Event Viewer’ from the list.
There is a
thread here where one user resolved this issue by disabling all startup items, and found that the apps worked, so he slowly started enabling other start up items until he found the one that caused his apps to not work.

Windows 7, InDesign, and KeyServer -- Won't Start!

But after 3 uninstalls and re-installs and InDesign not even starting, I thought I would ask you professionals
So here are my relevant details:
- Windows 7 64 bit via BootCamp on a Macbook Pro. (Note: I haven't yet tried installing InDesign on my mac partition but I would prefer to run the program on my Windows side...) Installed cleanly (not in-place upgrade)
- KeyServer & VPN - because I'm a uni student and I'm running this at home
- ...and Adobe Acrobat (would this be a problem), Microsoft Security Essentials, etc. My installation failed at first because of an Acrobat-related process that ran at start-up but I disabled it as soon as I rebooted and uninstalled and it went through cleanly. It keeps appearing when I reboot -- I always end it before attempting to run InDesign but could this be an underlying problem?
- No bank software (others: this has been reported to be a problem)
Tried running in compatibility mode, in administrator mode, looked for "prefs" (as recommended in another thread), but alas here is what happens:
InDesign.exe appears in Processes but it doesn't open or load or show up under Applications in Windows Task Manager. What gives?
Please help! And yes, I will try installing CS4 on my Mac OSX partition but I would really love to have it on this partition.

Right, I did see that -- and I downloaded the most recent version of KeyServer to no avail...
Also, Adobe CS4 Service Manager runs at startup (listed under msconfig)...Could this be a problem?

Two weeks ago we installed a new Server 2012 R2 with the Essentials Experience role. It was fully patched at time of deployment. We enabled O365 integration and password sync was working fine last week. This morning I went to the Dash Board to add a new
user and after clicking the O365 tab all fields show "Not available".

The only thing we did a few days ago was enable the Azure Backup integration. I am not sure if this broke the O365 integration as I didn't go back to the O365 tab in the dashboard after installing the Azure backup.
I have spent a considerable amount of time on google, however, majority of the posts talk about Update 1 which disables the password sync service. I have checked and all services are started with exception of Windows Server Essentials Email Service (WseEmailSvc).
The Azure Backup module is working fine and the registry location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Server\Productivity seems to hold the correct configuration information throughout the various keys.
I am at a loss as to how to proceed with this issue? I have checked but there are no pending updates and I have attempted a server reboot numerous times.
Would appreciate external input if you have seen this issue before or know where we can look to further establish what is going on.

I have a similar if not identical situation - I'm currently migrating from WS2012 Essentials to WS2012 R2 Standard w/Essentials role installed. The 'wseemailsvc' service continues to fail over and over, and I am unable to manage O365 accounts from within
the Essentials dashboard on the R2 server.

Some apps won't start

Hi there,
Even though the iPod touch works fine, every once in a while some apps simply do not want to start up. While videos and musik work fine, and apps like Safari and Mail start up all the time, apps like Google Earth, MotionX Dice, Warfare etc do not open. Well, to be more specific, they open, but while loading they close again without warning, showing the home display.
I've tried everything like new synching, sleep, restart etc., but nothing seems to help.
Does anybody have an idea why I cann't use some apps all the time? The problem occures only once in while, like once a week or so.

It seems that only 3rd party apps are not loading. All Apple-programms like Mail, YouTube, Safari etc work perfectly, but I simply do not get another app started.

Some applications won't start

I've been out of the country without my computer for a month and a bit, came back and things were fine for about 2 days. Now when I click on some applications on the dock they'll bounce a few times and that's it, won't open. Have yet to see this one - relatively new harddrive. Ran disk utility, said it found minor error but it failed in trying to repair. Ran an extended AHT test and it said everything was fine. Reset my ram and still no luck.

Those errors need to be fixed. Try DU a couple more times, but if DU cannot correct your directory, you'll need to either use a stronger utility such as Disk Warrior, or erase/zero the HD (backup first) and reinstall everything.

DVD SP can't find some files-won't start

When I try to open a major DVD SP 3 project, which worked last week, DVD SP states that it cannot find some files and that the project cannot open without them: "The movie file "Sequence 1-FIN-00000005" cannot be found. Without this file, the movie cannot play properly." I have to Force Quit DVD SP and cannot open the project. Other files complained about include 1-FIN-0000003b
Since I last opened the project, one of my external Firewire hard drives has failed - it will not switch on or run up or mount. That HD contained the scratch for FCE from which the movies (.mov) files for the DVD SP project were created.
Could it be that some of the movies that DVD SP can't find are Reference Movies which rely on a Sequence in one of the FCE projects on the faulty disc, which would explain whey DVD SP can't find them?
If so, how do I recover from this? The originating FCE scratch disc is lost, being on the failed HD. How can I force DVD SP to open the DVD SP project and THEN complain? That would allow me to delete the missing movies, recapture the shots from my camera into FCE, run the FCE project (which is on my internal HD), output the movies again but as stand-alone movies, and reinsert them in DVD SP's Assets and rescue the project. As it is, I cannot even identify the movies that DVD SP complains about
Help! A serious problem.

SOLVED! I can now get the project to upen by tricking DVD SP into finding that the files are MISSING rather than that they are REFERENCE MOVIES which cannot find their "parent" Final Cut Sequence. Here's how:
Examine all the QT movies that the troublesome DVD SP project needs acces to (they will be in your Media folder). Open each movie and if QuickTime can't display any of them by reporting that it cannot find a file called something like "Abcde - FIN-0000008", that means that the movie is a reference movie, which means that it depends on the Sequence in your Final Cut project file which created that reference movie. That is perhaps because the Final Cut project file or its sequence has been deleted; or (in my case) the relevant Capture Scratch hard drive is kaput.
For each such reference QT file, add an "x" (or something) to the file name in your media folder. (A clue about which QT files are reference movies is an unexpectedly small file size.) Changing the file names like that will result in DVD SP failing to find any trace of them them, one after the other, but this time it will continue to open the DVD SP project file until it displays a box listing the missing file names. Press "Continue" and the DVD SP project file will complete the opening process. In other words, DVD SP will refuse to open a project that needs REFERENCE movies which lack their parent sequences, but will eventually open a project with MISSING OR WRONGLY NAMED movies. You should then re-create the movies as non-reference ones, perhaps after re-creating your Final Cut project or re-capturing the shots from your camera.
This is an important discovery for anyone who has inadvertently created reference movies and lost his/her Final Cut Project File or Capture Scratch. Without it, you will loose your DVD SP project and many earlier versions of it. So, never check the box called "Make reference movie" when creating a movie from Final cut.
Whew!
However, I think that it is bad programming on Apple's part to create a situation when a file has to be abandoned unecessarily like that. DVD SP should treat orphan reference movies like it treats missing movies and just complain and get on with the job of opening. It's like my car refusing to move for ever more because, just once, a door wasn't properly shut!
I can't think why I did not keep a backup external HD for my Capture Scratch. I've got one now!

Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.

Firefox won't start after windows update

After windows Updated my computer Firefox won't start. I tried a clean reinstall two times, won't work. When I tried to start the firefox the first time after booting my computer it comes with the following message.

I do not see much about coloum 14, but I am guessing this file is stored somewhere and its corrupt. Update.xul suggests that it is the update file. Do you still have this in your downloads folder? There are two places for update and for a clean reinstall:

This is what the file should look like; [http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/log/7a2edc5171e6/toolkit/mozapps/extensions/content/update.xul] If you can copy and paste that file from a working browser we can see the issue, but it will just look the same as the error.
if you can replace the contents of the file locally with what it should look like it will fix the error, but who knows if there are other errors. May be best to delete the updater and save all the profile folder contents.

Audition 1.5 won't start up

I've been using Audition 1.5 for many years, generally to slow down and transcribe music.
It's been reliable and I have had no problems. I run Windows XP.
Today it won't start up. The message is get is: "There was an unknown error starting the application".
I look in the event viewer on Windows, but see no error messages.
Drilling down into the program, all the sound files are still there.
Earlier this week, I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.
Would there possibly be a conflict?
Any advice much appreciated.

Soundbooth CS5 do not problem about recording when I install it . In Control Panel Window7 , playback tab Speakers is default device and recording tab is stereo mix is default . When I open Soundbooth CS5 , it will detect this configuration automatically . I can record sound on web by press record on soundbooth.
Soundbooth is the best program as same as Audition CS3 . I used the method to setup the same. It do not have problem about recording .
But Audition CS5.5 has problem about recording when I would record with setting up the same . I am very puzzle . I do not understand audition cs5.5 not same Older version . Why ? It is very difficult .

4th gen. iPod touch suddenly won't start up again?

Hey all, hopefully someone can help me out.
My iPod was working perfectly up until an hour ago, and for some reason won't start up again. I've looked at the various tips, holding the power button for 10 seconds, but it still won't start up. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem. I bought it 5 months ago, and just used it when I was at home. I take very good care of it. No accidental damage or misuse. But it suddenly can not start up. So I sent my ipod touch to Apple store. To my disappointed, they can not do anything.They do not want to take their responsibility.

Media & security centers won't start

After viruses were removed from my laptop, windows security and media centers won't start. Anybody have a solution?

What model laptop? What operating system?
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files. For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file. It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs. The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue? I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.

I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix. Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
1. Quit Image Capture
2. Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
3. Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
4. Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
5. Quit and restart "Image Capture". Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder. It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful. I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
This is what I tried:
6. Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
7. Quit "Image Capture". Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
8. Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
9. Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer. I like "~/Desktop"
10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter. Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
I consider this a bug.

Portege R830 - Windows won't start after I install Comodo Firewall

Good afternoon,
I purchased today a Portege R830, and after the Windows configuration was over, the first program I installed was the popular free firewall Comodo. After I rebooted, Windows 7 wouldn't start anymore. It would get stuck on the user login screen and I know it's a problem with the firewall because if I make a system restore to the restore point created by the firewall installer, the windows will start again.
So I ask if there is any incompability between the firewall and some software on the Toshiba. Has anyone ever had this problem? I've been trying to solve this issue all day long with no results. I even re-installed Windows 7 using the Toshiba recovery and the issue persists. I really love Comodo, and I want this firewall on my laptop, but Windows just won't start!
Any help would be very apreciated.

Have you disabled the Windows firewall before you started with Comodo firewall installation? As far as I know Portege R830 is delivered with preinstalled McAfee security software and you should remove this program before you install any other security tools.
Generally speaking this issue has nothing to do with Toshiba and its recommendable to contact Comodo directly. Maybe they know about this issue so they can give you a proper answer.
But I dont understand why this program is so important for you. Windows has already an internal firewall so such programs are not necessary in my opinion. Just install a good antivirus program like AntiVir and activate automatic Windows updates. Thats all!

Firefox won't start. Everytime I end the process/close the last window, it keeps getting stuck at about 2500k memory in the task manager. The only way I have to fix it is to change some kind of compability settings or try and access it in a new way, and every time it crashes/closed/computer blue screens that setting will no longer work.
That is a short term solution, but eventually I'll run out of ways to access firefox successfully. I've tried many solutions, and some worked, but only once. I have yet to find a permanent solution for this problem.

First please update your plugins to make sure you are up to date. Shockwave Flash player has a newer version 16.
