Windows 8.1 & Sound Blaster Z First Boot Issue

I'm having a very strange issue with my Sound Blaster Z. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue, a driver issue, a Windows 8.1 issue, or a motherboard issue.
When i boot the machine, the sound card does not get initialized. I get no sound and dolby digital live does not work. I have a Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 system and i don't get a light at the bottom that indicates a dolby digital signal from the sound card. However, windows reports that both the sound blaster z and the audio controller are both working normally, no conflicts. There are no errors in the windows event log. If I go into the audio controller, i try to switch between no encoder and dolby digital live, and it's not fixing it.
My motherboard is an ASRock 990FX Extreme9 motherboard.
The strange part is my only remedy to get my sound card actually working is to restart windows without shutting down. This happens every single time. Has anyone else experienced or is experiencing this issue.
This is actually my second Sound Blaster Z card, i rma'd my first one. I upgraded from an Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIE card.
Thanx
AJ

I have the same issus like this guy in this thread. http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=700484
My Soundblaster z is often detectect as a 2- Soundblaster z.
I heard you have to disable complete uefi boot, and disable fast boot options in your bios.

http://forums.creative.com/showthrea...=699640&page=3
When you disable uefi boot in bios, but you installed windows with uefi. You have to install windows new.
But i still have the Problem with 2- Soundblaster Z. I have disbaled uefi and fastboot but nothing happens. Sometime it is not detected. Now i am back to my old recon3d PCIe, no Problems. Please Creative HELP, i am not the only one

• Choppy sound in Windows 7 on Sound Blaster Audigy SE

Hey all,
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and I love it with the exception of my sound card. Ever since I upgraded, all my sounds are super choppy (like every 5 seconds it chops). Of course I installed the new creative windows 7 drivers but it didn't fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this or other possible solutions to try?
Thanks,
Jason

Re: Choppy sound in Windows 7 on Sound Blaster Audigy SEk What I meant was when you uninstall your graphics driver and use standart VGA drivers then the sound turns to normal without any crackling/popping. But of course you wouldnt want to do that or else you wouldnt have graphics accerelation. (You can't play video games and even watch any kind of video)
For instance you freshly setup windows, dont install any nvidia/ati drivers, just with the big screen, install the creative drivers u wont have any problem with your sound.
That's why I said that there's a kind of confliction between graphics interface and creative drivers. Because when u install any kind of display driver, crackling sound starts again.
There's no solution for this except updated SB drivers. And that's why people get mad to creative on this forum. (Not only on this forum of course, it's a worldwide madness)

• Major Issues with Windows XP and Sound Blaster Audig

As mentioned in the post title, I'm using a Sound Blaster Audigy 4 card (recently purchased) and am having issues with Windows XP apparently because of it. When the card is physically installed, but the drivers are not, there are no problems. However, when the drivers are installed, Windows XP's "explorer.exe" crashes on boot, locking up the start menu and any other open windows. Now, I can manually end the explorer.exe application and then reboot it, and things will work... however, I cannot imagine that that is the intended functionality of this card. Additionally, I suspect the card in the failure of a game (Eve Online) but I would assume the issues are related. I've already narrowed the issue down to the Sound Blaster drivers. I've tried booting with the SB drivers but without the video card drivers, and the problem recurred. Every time I boot with the SB drivers installed, it fails. Without them, things seem to run normally. If it helps, I'm using an Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 processor, with GB of DDR800 RAM. I've installed Windows Service Pack 2 and all the other updates. The video card is a Geforce 7950 GT, with the latest NVidia Forceware (93.7) drivers. I've had this problem with both the Audigy drivers on the CD that came with the card and the newest ones downloaded from this website. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3, which includes onboard sound hardware, but I have disabled it at the BIOS level. I can provide dxdiag information or anything like that if necessary. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or have you encountered a similar problem?Message Edited by DerekKatz on 2-04-200603:2 AM

Thanks for the helpful reply Dan
I ran the file, CTZAPXX.exe, like suggested, and it ran without a problem. It installed the files and even required me to reboot my computer!!
However, after a computer restart, I am still in the same boat. Codecs are installed, but the location of the device is "unknown". In Device manager, there are no unknown devices; it shows the codecs in the sound tab, but no actual hardware; as if my sound card does not exist.
I use my computer for music, and my buddy needs me tomorrow night to play some music stored on my computer. I really do appreciate the help I am offered. I do not mean to sound impatient, but I really need this device fixed, or I will have to have him buy me a sound card....

• Sound deactivated when first boot-up

Hi,
Whenever i first boot-up mu iMac, the speaker or sound is deactivated. i need to restart it to make it appear and function normally.
Pls. help!
thanks

The constant shut down and restart cycle stopped when I cleared cmos. The two problems that I now have are no display and the d-led indicating a mem problem. Could the mem problem cause lack of display or could it be a mobo problem that causes the d-led to report incorrectly? (is this question like asking how long is a bit of string?) The reason that I am suspicious of the mobo is that I suspect it is a repaired one not new, the date on the box is Dec 06 (from a leading UK supplies it seems a bit old to me but!) and both board and box have two serial numbers. (plus the cmos bit) I am hesitant about sending back immediately in case it is something else faulty and I have to return that as well, but maybe I'm being a bit over concerned.
Both drives seem to run and the DVD rw front led flashes but I cannot tell any more because of the lack of display.  I will try powering up with only on mem stick when I get back from work. (BTW mem sticks are in 1&3).

• Problems with Windows x64 and Sound blaster l

Hey, I have this issue with my sound blaster li've. I've just recently installed Windows x64 and now I'm having issues with my sound. It creates this weird echo sound with a small static sound everytime a game. Prior to loading any applications, the sound is just fine. I had this issue when I had Windows XP but I installed the Li've applications and was able stop that. But I can't install that application for Windows x64. Is there any solution to this? Thanks in advance.

kennydo you have aim or msn or anything where we can talk, because i have relati'vely same stuff as you. Thanks very much

• Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Issue

Hey. I have Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card but cannot receive sound from it. I installed ALSA during the initial installed and tried to configure it but with no luck. I'm using the sound card with headphones too. Is there anything else I need to install/configure to get this working?
Cheers.

kentern,  I looked at sly's output above (I hadn't noticed the link to it before because my browser colors and fonts are very hard to read), and he has the card that uses the CA0106 codec.  I also have the CA0110 codec card, but have removed it from the PC as it seemed a hopeless basket case with all versions of ALSA, and I never did find anyone on any linux distro successfully running it to the point of producing any sound.
PS: Admittedly, the CA0110 codec cards are also supposed to work starting with ALSA 1.0.21 (see the alsa user and developer lists), but since its a completely different card, I would suggest you start a separate thread for that card instead of diverting his thread, here.  For the time being, on my system, I've replaced the card with an old PCI card that works without trouble.  I spent a couple weeks trying to get the x-Fi one to work on 1/2 dozen different distros, with zero success on any of them, and as a matter of fact, it was the ALSA 1.0.22 in archlinux that got me interested in Arch.

• Sound Blaster Live! Value CT4830 Problem on 2000

Hi!
I got this problem, I have a Sound Blaster Li've! Value CT4830 (I can't find the CT4830 in Identify Your Product section, likely it's same product with CT4832) card that I bought several years ago. When I first bought this card and install it, I was running Windows 2000 Prof, everything run as expected, it didn't need the CD driver because the WDM driver from windows is enough. After that I reinstall my PC with Windows 98 SE and on this windows version it is need the CD driver because the windows does not have the driver. and once again everything was run alright. After over a year using Windows 98 SE, I decide to upgrade windows XP, and problems appear, The card detected by windows as Creative Sound Blaster! Li've!, and windows driver was installed succesfully, no error message appear at all. But there is no sound at all, when I try to play music, the player just stop responding. I try to update the driver and the 'Setup does not detect Sound Blaster .....' error msg during installation appear. I have try to install Windows 2000 Prof, and the problem still exist. It is exactly the same as on Windows XP. At last try I install again my Windows 98 SE, and Windows ME it works fine on both version using the driver from bundled package. the CD driver does't support for Win2000 and WinXP. How can I solve this problem? is there anyone can help me? for the record I'm not changing my hardware configuration at all.
My Configuration:
Processor : AMD K6-2 500Mhz
Motherboard : ASUS P5A-B bios version 0
Video Card : ATi Rage IIc
Memory : 256 MB

• Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum + What You Hear

Hi All,
I'm looking into picking up a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum or the X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series card... However after recent frustration loosing the "What U Hear" option on a old Audigy SE running under Windows Vista, I am a little unsure!
My question is: Do the X-Fi Platinum or Fatalty Champion Series cards have the "What U Hear" recording option like it did with previous older Creative cards? *I am now back using Windows XP*
Also, are the 2 mentioned X-Fi cards much cop when it comes to music production?
Many thanks

Well looking over ?you see the Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Sound Card Family Review.
Note...[*]ASIO 2.0 support at 6-bit/44.kHz, 6-bit/48kHz, 24-bit/44.kHz 24-bit/48kHz and 24-bit/96kHz with direct monitoring.<?
ASIO 2.0 seems a different ball game all together.
We know that not all those card will NOT give you What U hear in Vista, so I think it's bad to get the terms confused.
You can find the same on some USB eternals as well, and I've yet to see one than that can do mix (What U hear)
I?suggested to?creative in another thread if they could supply this information rather than let someone buy the card to find out it doesn't.
Worth noting that creative have stated what cards can do What U hear in Vista tho.
The What U Hear recording option is supported in Windows Vista for Sound Blaster X-Fi series (Excluding Extreme Audio series) and Sound Blaster Audigy series (excluding Sound Blaster Audigy LE, SE, and Audigy Value).
Some of those card will with older drivers though.
This whole Stereo mix thing has become a total sham, and is not provided on most new laptops with vista and creatives external solution ( X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook) doesn't give it in Vista but it does XP but you CANNOT do voice over music with it as you have mic control and it mutes the mic.
I suppose it depends what we use mix for though....some people just want it to record from the web, so they are not bothered about the mic, but if you want to do voice over music (karaoke or DJ) it's no good.
I could give you a link to a forum where people are cursing the lack of mix, and I can see it getting worse as people get new PCs with Vista on.
Sorry I went off topic, but I needed a vent over this as I often get asked by people "what should I buy" and I can't find the answers!
Come on Creative!!!!!
• Sound Blaster PCI causes Windows 98SE to hang at boot

ASUS P5VD-X motherboard, PentiumD805, GB RAM, 250GBHD, Win98 and XP Dual Boot, Ati Radeon 256 8x AGP.
Hi. After installing the standard old Sound blaster PCI card under Win98SE with the drivers disc and rebooting PC, Win 98 just hangs at the boot screen. I can still get into safe mode and have tried uninstalling PCI from add remove programs but unfortunately still cant get to load normally. I have the onboard SoundMAX audio which is still enabled in bios and?its drivers?installed on win98 so i guess i could use that instead of Sound Blaster if i could boot normally into win98. The is now removed from but win98 still hangs on boot up.
When i installed the SBPCI drivers disc and before i rebooted win98 before the crash i noticed that it placed windows media player icons on desktop. I have also tried uninstalling media player.
Interestingly i cant even get the bootlog option or command prompt to work at all it just freezes even though safe mode and safe mode command prompt only work.
I have tried restoring the registry with scanreg/restore to a week ago when there were no boot up problems. This however has still not resolved the boot up hang as soon as windows 98 logo appears.
Can anyone help?

A bunch of things are probably conflicting. The Creative cd seems to have installed WMP7 (later cd's might do that.)? Or possibly a version of WMP6. Your SoundMAX driver is conflicting with the Creative driver. 98 doesn't play well with 2 soundcards. You should have uninstalled the SoundMAX, deactivated it in the BIOS, then installed the Creative card and drivers. 98 can be trashed easily by this kind of thing. I would format (have all your drivers and program setup files saved to a cdr and remove all hardware except for keyboard, mouse and videocard) and install Windows. Install?all the optional Windows components you want from Add/Remove Windows Components tab and the Plus 98!?software if you have it. Then use the packages such as the Unofficial 98SE Service Pack and the Autopatcher Alpha .6 for Windows 98SE on msfn.org Windows 98SE Service Pack forum to update your system. That Autopatcher contains just about all the updates and the Service Pack (installed first) contains?some nice registry tweaks, 256 color tray icons, Windows 2000 color scheme,?nicer desktop icons, a cleaner Dialup Networking .4 install than Microsoft gives you, etc. Then install your hardware and drivers. Have your on board audio disabled in the BIOS from the start if you want to install a Creative card instead.

Have you actually tired it yourself?  I'm wondering if this is a workaround, or will this be the official solution.  I wouldn't mind trying it, but I don't want to mess it up for when the Official driver is released.
