Windows 8.1 Update 1 for Enterprise

I got the license for Windows 8.1 from my MSDN subscription which is not affiliated with an IT Department as I got the subscription through being a student partner. Hence, today when I tried to update to Windows 8.1 Update 1, I could not find the
update in the Update or Store. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue for my particular case?
Kind regards,
Oscar

Hi,
Can you get Windows 8.1 Update via following path?

  • Software Update replication for enterprise

Has anyone got an enterprise solution for the following:
An enterprise has multiple locations, and a Software Update Server (SUS) in each location. Rather than updating each SUS manually, we would like to update one SUS and propagate the changes down to the other SUSes.
    So far my thoughts are:
    1. rsync the /usr/share/swupd/html/ directory from the "parent" SUS to the "child" SUSes
    2. Export the SUS service settings from Server Admin on the "parent" and import them on the "children". Would this cause the children to download any missing updates?

Hi again, it points the secondary at the primary and replicates it.
    more from the same chapter
"Once the secondary Software Update server has downloaded the new catalog from your
primary server, you’ll see that the secondary server has access only to the updates you
choose to make available from the primary server."
Is that what you want it to do?
    Cheers

  • Azure Backup-reviewing Windows 8.1 azure client for enterprise use

hello, i'm kicking the tires on the Azure Recovery Services Site agent for Windows 8.1. I like it - seems easy. The question I have:
I notice you have to provide a passphrase.  We would like to test this offering with 10 employees but the management of the passphrase is a bit concern.  Is there a way from an Azure portal (or other method) to get the passphrase of each
client machine?  as system administrators, we would like to keep a copy of the passphrase in Active Directory, Azure Portal, or some centralize place (we don't want to count on the user to solely hold that passphrase because if they lose it, they will
    be out of luck).
    can anyone speak to that?
    thanks

    Hi,
There is no automatic way to help protect that passphrase. User should keep the passphrase and not share to others for private consider. If you worried about losing passphrase, you can let users to save it to an external place such as share a folder for
each user to keep a copy of them.
    See:
    http://azure.microsoft.com/blog/2014/09/11/getting-started-with-azure-backup/
Note that Azure Backup never maintains the passphrase and if the passphrase is lost by the user, the data can never be restored or recovered. Hence it is strongly recommended that the user saves the key to an external location.

  • Windows 10 TP x86 for Enterprise

    Dear Sir/Mdm,
Pls tell me where can I download Windows 10 TP x 86 for Enterprise. (ie, 32-bit version)
    Thank You.
    Best regards,
    Engch911

Dear Sir/Mdm, thank you for recommending me a link to download the required 32-bit Windows 10 TP x 86  for Enterprise.
I has tried to download it through TechNet using Akamai NetSessions Interface for more than 15 hours but it still would not tell whether the downloading is completed or not and so I gave up the downloading.  Normally when I download 3GB data using
Free Downloader Manager, it takes about 10 hours. Akamai NetSessions Interface does not shows % of downloading, time left for downloading and so on.
Please tell me a better link or a method for downloading my required 32-bit Windows 10 TP x 86 for Enterprise.
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    Engch911
Unfortunately the download manager does not have a progress meter or any indication of a download with Chrome. I simply left it overnight and then the following morning installed it in a VM.
Chrome will nag if you close the download page, but that is all, no indication of an actual download. So leave it open if you are using Chrome like most are today

  • Windows 8.1 - Update consideration, resources, and known issues

This community KB article is being consolidated to help Lenovo customers who are early adopters of the Windows 8.1 update.  This article will be frequently updated to include information on recommendation on issues that have been reported and are currently being addressed by Lenovo product teams.   It is recommended that a backup of all data be made prior to starting the Windows 8.1 update.
Official Lenovo Windows 8 and 8.1 Support resources - list of officially supported systems, information on license keys, activation, upgrade / downgrade rights and more.
Update Drivers before upgrading to Windows 8.1. At this time Lenovo recommends that customers who are planning to install the Windows 8.1 update, first update to the latest version of device drivers and BIOS on the Lenovo support site and apply Windows updates.   Lenovo customers who are using ThinkPad, ThinkStation, ThinkCentre systems may elect to use the System Update to accomplish the Lenovo driver updates before updating to Windows 8.1.  System update 5.03 should be used.  If system update is downlevel, it should first update itself to version 5.03.  Windows 8.1 drivers are being packaged and made available for automated install through System Update; therefore initially a limited number of 8.1 updates may be reported through System update.   Updated drivers can still be installed manually by downloading from the support site.  Lenovo is currently working on the release and availability of Windows 8.1 drivers through system update.
Not finding 8.1 drivers for officially supported models on the Lenovo support site?  The driver list for some systems ( Helix for example) currently reflect a mix of drivers for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.  The Windows 8 drivers should work and have been tested, and compatibility designations are being revised to clearly reflect compatibility with Windows 8.1.  This updating of descriptions is expected to complete in early November
SOLVED -SecureBoot advisory message appears in lower right corner of the screen after updating to Windows 8.1.  This appears to occur if SecureBoot was not enabled when the update was installed.  This community article may help resolve the issue. Microsoft has released an official solution here
Windows 8.1 update is not listed in the Microsoft Store.   There are certain prerequisites that must be installed before the Windows 8.1 update will be installed.   Be sure to run Windows update and install all updates.  Reboot according to instructions, then re-launch the Windows Store and select Microsoft Windows 8.1 update.  For additional information on updating from the Microsoft Windows 8.1 preview to Windows 8.1 click here.  If the Windows 8.1 update is still not available, please visit support.microsoft.com
Windows 8.1 update fails with an error code. Try to refresh and ensure all Windows updates have been applied.  If a backup of all data has already been made, customers may elect to reset back to factory, perform all Windows updates, update Lenovo drivers, and then attempt the Windows 8.1 update again.  Please note: Reset back to factory will wipe out all data.
SOLVED - Black Screen with flashing pointer after install on some hybrid graphics equipped  systems , S440/540, T430/530    W530 could potentially be affected.   This issue has been addressed and Windows 8.1 updates on these models conducted after 10/29/13 should proceed normally.  A Lenovo support tip for S series has been released to assist any previously affected customers. Another tip for T430/530 and W530 series is available,  too.

I have a z580 Ideapad that came with Windows 8.0. Some materials on the Lenovo site indicate that this laptop should not be updated to Windows 8.1 due to provides with the video driver, other materials indicate that it is OK. Has the video driver issue been resolved? Are there other Windows 8.1 upgrade issues? Maybe I should avoid problems and just stay with WIndows 8.0.

Yeah, Thanks for clarifying that. I forgot to mention that one.. It would be better if we will manually sync first the media files via zune before performing the update. However, in my case, when I updated my Lumia 800, for some reasons all of the apps and data are still there nothing was deleted. But again, just to make sure, sync the media files first before updating the device. with regards to the apps, you can redownload it again via Marketplace.  Also, text messages will be deleted.

    Hi zelgay,
    This is my result:
From your error code, it seems this is relate to your windows update, please use following command to fix corrupted files:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
In the meantime, you can delete temporary update files in the SoftwareDistribution folder:
    Stop Windows Update service.
    Open File Explorer.
Double-click the local hard disk where Windows is installed, typically drive C.
Double-click the Windows folder, and then double-click the
    SoftwareDistribution folder.
Double-click the DataStore folder to open it, and then delete all files and folders in the folder.
Note If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click the Back button. In the SoftwareDistribution folder, double-click the
Download folder to open it, and then delete all files in the folder.
    Restart Windows Update service.

  • Looking for a site that shows problems with windows patches or updates.

Looking for a site that shows problems with windows patches or updates...so I know what not to install.
Plenty of sites list and summarize individual patches, I want one that consolidates problems and complaints so I can better assess the risk. Currently I'm waiting to install patches several days and doing google searches. That works, but I'd rather find a place
    that does it with expertise.
Which forums would be best to look for such problems.
Thanks in and advance for suggestions

    Hi,
I agreed with Cyber and Rick.
Windows update helps to keep your PC safer—and your software current—by fetching the latest security and feature updates from Microsoft via the Internet.
Although there might be some problems when installing it, Windows update is not the one to blame.

Error Code 8024200D while installing update KB3000850 for Windows 8.1
I have been prompted for the last 10 days to install the important update KB3000850 in my laptop, but the installation fails every time.
Two days ago, on March the 12th, I installed 31 updates without any problem. What is wrong with this particular update?
You will find below my dialogue with Microsoft Support Engineer, Mr Niranjan Manjhi, who referred me to you:
    Hi Michelle,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
    I understand that you are unable to install the a specific update KB3000850. I will be happy to assist you with your query. Let me ask you;
Is your computer connected to domain?
Which security software is installed in the      computer?
Do you remember making any specific change in the      computer prior to the issue?
This November update rollup also includes all previous updates since the previous image update in April 2014 and this includes performance and reliability
    improvements.
    Cause:
This issue occurs because a process keeps a file in the component store open. Therefore, the file cannot be deleted or overwritten. Let's try the methods below and
    check the status.
Method 1: Depending on the architecture of your
Windows 8.1 operating system, I would suggest you to install the following package first and then try installing the KB3000850.
All supported x86-based versions of Windows 8.1: [link] Download the package now.
All supported x64-based versions of Windows 8.1:
    [link] Download the package now.
    Restart is required.
    Method 2:
If the issue still persists, run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and check the status.
    Click to run
    [link] Windows Update Troubleshooter
    Also refer to:
[link] Troubleshoot problems with installing updates
Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.
    Regards,
    Niranjan Manjhi
    Dear Niranjan,
    Thank you for your answer.
    To answer your questions:
    1) Yes, my laptop is connected to the domain,
    2) My security software is McAfee Total Protection, the same I use for my PC running Windows 7 XP,
    3) I did not make any specific change to the laptop. It is true though that I run regularly McAfee´s QuickClean.
In your answer, you suggested 2 methods for resolving the problem.
I chose to apply first the second one, i.e. I ran once again the Windows Update Troubleshooter, which revealed again the following status:
Potential Windows Update Database error detected Ox800F08F: Not fixed
Windows Update components must be repaired: Fixed
And a last information: Yesterday, McAfee´s Vulnerability Scanner was automatically activated, showing as "critical" the update in question ("important" according to Windows)!
As for applying the first method you suggested, I will need the services of a professional, someone more IT literate than myself.
    Michelle
    Hi Michelle,
Thank you for keeping us updated on the issue.
Since the computer is connected to domain, I would request you to post your query in the TechNet forums as your question is beyond the scope of what
is typically answered in this consumer forum and would be better suited for the IT Pro audience on TechNet.
Please post your question in the link TechNet Forums.

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I see that you are getting an error code, when you try to install Windows 8.1 from USB or DVD. I am happy to assist.
Just to clarify, you are using a standalone Windows installation disk, you are not using a factory recovery image. Is that correct?

I have been trying to update my windows 8.1 to the latest 8.1 update for x64 based systems (KB2919355).  I got the message that I needed to update to this along with a security update needed for windows explorer 11 (KB2936068).  I have tried to download it the past 8 hours with my antivirus turned on and off and it says it was not downloaded, try again.  I have been trying again for the last 8 hours and have run out of patience.  I tried from my computer's windows update and have tried from Microsoft Windows stand alone download site and still can't get it to download.  The green bar goes across for about 10 minutes and then says it was unsuccessful and try again.  I have a Toshiba Satellite S55-A5295 model with plenty of Ram and hard drive memory.  I have also tried both over my wi-fi and hardwired to my cable modem via ethernet cable-again to no avail.  I called Toshiba and they want to charge me to help.  I called Microsoft and they want to charge me to help.  Their price is about 1/4 cost of my computer, and my computer is only 6 months old.  Toshiba tells me the warranty only covers hardware--not software like Microsoft Windows updates.  PLEASE HELP!!

    KB2919355 is essential.
I suggest you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents as follows.
Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery tab > Recovery tab > Remove everything and reinstall Windows
And then upgrade to Windows 8.1 by carefully following these instructions.

  • How do i Install the Software Update Server for Windows 7?

How do i Install the Software Update Server for Windows 7? I get an error saying: Can't Install the Software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.
I downloaded the software so How do I install it?
Do I install it all over again or when I have windows open?
    I am using Bootcamp.

Back up your system drive completely. If you have no backup plan in place, now would be a good time to start. You can use CarbonCopyCloner to make a complete, bootable backup of your system on another drive or volume. After you have done this: download the combo update using the link supplied by Niel and run the installer.
