Windows 8.1 update continues updating 6 hour after

This morning Windows ask me to reboot for install some updates, I say yes and now six hours after it continues updating at the same step 'installing update 6 of 12'
I don't know what to do. Can I stop the updating process? I tried to switch off my computer one hour ago but the computer (laptop) doesn't switch off just sleeps until I press the power button again.
Some clues?
My laptop: Toshiba satellite L850-150, Windows 8.1 x64, Intel i7, 8 GB RAM, SSD hard disk.

It actually can be fixed. The problem though is that the steps required use programs that are not created by RIM and they can be a bit intimidating.
Generally speaking though, if it doesn't work and the phone is still under warranty, the easiest option is to let the carrier deal with it. If the phone is no longer under warranty though, there are definitely ways to fix the problem.

Continuous update of imovie, iphoto, pages, numbers, keynote after installation of Mavericks

I face on the same issue since the installation of Mavericks.
I had before the iLife Suite and iWork Suite coming from a DVD purchase.
Since the installation of Mavericks, the update is available from the App Store.
But after the update of each application, I was able to start them but few minutes/hours after, I can't launch the application again and the system restart the download of the application ... and this for all applications coming from a previous DVD purchase.
For example, Aperture which comes from a App Store purcharse has been update one time and works perfectly.
Have you an idea to solve the issue ?

Same issue here it's using up all my monthly download .
I movie has installed and is working but the Update continues to download. The store window lower panel shows all the updates installed since updating to Maverick's including iMovie. The top panel offers iMove same version as an update and is downloading in the background.
How can I clear down this and set a flag to tell the system it is up to date!
How do I turn off updates until this is resolved I think iMovie is 1.5gb I have already wasted 3gb of my monthly allocation.

I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?

Windows 7 x64, MacBook Pro, frequent CHKDSK after HDD firmware update

Hello, I have been having filesystem problems on my Windows 7 partition since the HDD related firmware update (the latest Performance update) was released and installed onto this mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
The HDD is a 500 GB 7200 RPM model, but it never gave me any troubles under OS X before the "fix" and I know other users had intermittent problems with the HDD on their MacBook Pro's related to the HDD making noises and pausing.
The fix was released, I installed it and I started seeing my first problem in Windows 7 x64 a few days after... I cleanly shut the OS down, but when I booted it back it asked me to perform a coherency check to the Filesystem... I thought that the problem was related to the fact that I was using the RC1 build of Windows 7... although that problem never manifested itself in the weeks before the Performance Update (HDD firmware fix) was installed and Windows 7 x64 RC1 had been on there and used frequently.
I recently purchased Windows 7 retail a few days ago and after a bit of trouble-free operation I started having problems again... always shutting the PC down carefully and I was asked to run the CHKDSK utility at boot twice already.
What to do?

I have a different experience. I installed Windows 7 before the "performance update 1.0" came out. I actually experienced the chkdsk launch problem with Windows 7. I had done repartitioning and clean-install several times but cannot solve the problem. So I tried to install XP and Vista on my MBA (Mid 2009 with SSD) and found that these two OS doesn't introduce such problem.
To be honest, I'm not sure which caused such problem, Windows 7, a bootcamp driver, or EFI. But I'm sure that CHKDSK in Windows 7 has an obvious bug that needs to be patched (memory leak and maybe this problem as well). So now I'm using Windows Vista SP2. And I'm happy with Vista SP2 (seems to become faster and stable now).

Error 80072f8f after installing Windows 8.1 / 2012 R2 "Update"

I just want to share my experience with the new Update.
We are using a WSUS (on Windows Server 2012) with a Wildcard certificate from Geotrust for some time now.
I manually installed the new "Windows 8.1 Update 1" on a Windows 8.1 and a Windows Server 2012 R2 System, both joined in the Domain and were able to update with the WSUS.
Right after the update both systems keeps failing to communicate with the WSUS with error 80072f8f.
After changing the ssl certificate on the WSUS Server to a internal PKI certificate the Systems could talk again with the wsus Server.
So keep in mind when you upgrade to check if the system still works with your wsus server.

I am also getting the same issue where the 80072f8f error occurs when attempting to scan for updates.
The client machines are Windows Server 2012 R2 (with Update 1 installed) and the WSUS server is also running Windows Server 2012 R2 Update 1.
You answers are not remotely helpful in this instance.
The OP has mentioned several times he is using a Windows Server 2012 WSUS box. Therefore the article you reference has no validity for this issue.
TLS 1.2 is enabled by default on 2012 so the linked article and advice unfortunately does not fix the issue.
Has anyone else had the 80072f8f error when using a Windows Server 2012 R2 WSUS box?
We see errors in the CAPI2 log for Verify Revocation Information
and Vertify Chain Policy. Althougjh browsing to our WSUS server in IE shows the correct validated certificate.
Any help would be appreciated.

Windows Defender won't run on Twist after updating BIOS to 1.52.1.52

I ran a Windows Defender scan last night, all worked fine.
Today, I used Lenovo's system update to update the BIOS to 1.52.1.52. Immediately after the reboot, I tried another Defender scan.
It wil not complete: early into the scan, the fan speed increases and the Windows Defender service shuts down, bringing up the red "PC is at risk" banner and effectively killing the scan.
It's pretty clear that you need to issue an update/fix and FAST - my PC is no longer being protected!
