Windows 8.1 Update...Critical Structure Corruption

I have Windows 8 on a Sony Vaio, and I updated with the 8.1.  Now about every 15 - 30 mins I get a blue screen saying:
":( Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some erro info, and then we'll restart for you."  after I installed Windows 8.1 (It was an upgrade from Windows 8, that worked perfectly).
It also states that if I want find more information, to go online and search for:
CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION

Hi,
Maybe a corrupted driver issue, as Andre.Ziegler said, you can upload the dump file so that we can help you analyze it to find out the root cause.

  • Critical structure corruption error

Hi, I installed autodesk inventor Pro 2014 and it required me to firstly install a windows installer patch before it could open. Now it works fine the only problem is that, my PC always restarts and I get a blue screen(critical structure corruption error).
    Please help.

We do need the actual DMP file as they contain the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.
Please follow our instructions for finding and uploading the files we need to help you fix your computer. They can be found here
If you have any questions about the procedure please ask
If you are using Blue screen view, who crashed, or a similar application, don't.  They are wrong at least as often as they are correct

  • Finding corrupt file in an Windows 8.1 Update installation

    Hi
I would like to know if, with
Windows 8.1 Update, there is a
way to know if its installation has
    some of its corrupt file?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

Usually after update been download, it will be checked for file integrity before it install and if there is any error it will notify you and after installation, it will also notify you if something went wrong.
However, you may run sfc /scannow command to check whether your Windows files are corrupted or not.
You should run the comm and in command prompt as administrator.
    In which Windows mode is
    better to run this command?
    Thanks

  • Old critical problem is actual for Windows 8.1 Update and Windows 10 TP

    Hello,
my app is in the Windows Store 2 years and all 2 years I am getting reviews with 1 stars with complaining about cache size, which can be 10-30Gb... I have reported about this problem to Microsoft Support at October 2013, but problem is not solved in Windows
8.1 Update and it is amazing... I reproduced problem on Windows 10 TP. More details about problem in my old topic https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/ru-RU/0a5d2822-9a3f-48ef-a30e-e8826e76b5b5/critical-problem-still-exists?forum=winappswithcsharp
Big files with size more than 5Mb are stored and are not deleted, so information in last message is not right.
Is it so difficult problem to resolve? Please enable option for Windows store apps co they can delete their cache manually. If problem is not resolved in Windows 10 final release, I will write about it to all major IT magazines, because problem is very critical
and AFFECT ALL APPS from Windows Store.
sorry for my English, thank you.

    Hello,
Keep in mind that the current cache size limit (W8.1) is 95% of free space or 4 GB whatever is smaller. 200 MB is not very large. Do you see the cache reach a size of greater than 4 GB?
    -James
Windows SDK Technologies - Microsoft Developer Services - http://blogs.msdn.com/mediasdkstuff/
yes, my users report about 10-30Gb size, also for my radio app I do not see any reasons to store radio stream cache even 100Mb, because it is absolutely unnecessary. I think 4 Gb for cache on Windows tablets with 32 Gb SSD is too big. Also users think
what it is my trouble that app generates big .dat files, and they think I do not see their reviews and do not do anything to solve problem, it makes me very unhappy.

  • Restarting after update - Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart in one minute?

This is a worrying one - I updated Reader today and restarted after it promted me. Soon after the pc rebooted I got an error message that said "Windows has encountered a critical problem and will restart in one minute". After it restarted, I checked the event logs and came up with this error: "A critical system process, C:\Windows\system32\lsass.exe, failed with status code 1.  The machine must now be restarted.". This has never happened before and I want to know if the Reader update did anything bad. I restarted several times afterwards and it didn't happen again, but still.. it's worrying me. Is this a common error after the update or am I missing something? Running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

I understand that you are worried.
I have a very similar setup as yours, and nothing happened after the Reader 10.1.3 update.  The one difference is that the update did not prompt me to restart Windows.  (It did prompt me on several other [XP] systems.)
Let's wait and see if anyone else encountered a similar problem.

  • Unable to boot from ODD or USB after windows 8.1 update on P850-31L

    Hi
I just updated a P850-31L to windows 8.1 from windows 8 through the windows store.
Before the update I was able to boot from a USB drive by pressing F12 during start up.
After the update I was no longer able to boot from the USB drive. Selecting the USB drive by changing the boot order in BIOS setup via F2 or by pressing F12 no longer works.
Booting from ODD is also no longer possible.
The BIOS version is 6.70 and does not allow secure boot to be disabled. However the DVD and the USB stick I tried are signed Ubuntu 12.10 which worked prior to the upgrade. Fastboot in windows 8.1 is disabled.
This would then appear to be a bug in the Toshiba BIOS? Or has the windows 8.1 updated the BIOS or the EFI boot partition in such a way as to override the BIOS setting? Really stuck here, doesn't seem to be much information about.
Any thoughts or assistance would be very much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Michael
Update: I just tried booting from the Toshiba windows 8 recovery DVD and this no longer works either.
    Message was edited by: michael_toshiba_forum

    OK I fixed this.
Firstly it's worth noting that it is possible to to disable secure boot in the 6.70 BIOS.
However this option is only available when the user password is not set in the security menu.
After enabling or disabling the password a reboot is required to make the secure boot enable/disable option either available or unavailable.
That's good I suppose as I guess it may prevent secure boot from being disabled when the machine is running. However this does not appear to have been related to this issue.
I selected the 'reset to factory defaults' option on the exit menu.
The machine was then able to boot from USB and DVD. The boot order was also respected.
Perhaps the windows 8.1 upgrade somehow invisibly corrupted the BIOS settings. Or maybe it was just a stranage co-incidence that the BIOS corrupted itself during the install. Either way that factory reset fixed it.

  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 update 1

    http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2014/04/02/windows-81-update-1-is-coming-april-8-here-are-new-features/?intcmp=obnetwork
At Build 2014, Microsoft’s annual developer-focused conference, the company dished out some details about Windows 8.1 Update 1, the first significant Windows update since it became available back in October. Here’s a rundown of the changes that Windows 8.1 Update 1 will bring about once it’s released as a free update for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users on April 8, which happens to be Microsoft’s next regularly scheduled Patch Tuesday.
    Boot straight to the Desktop:
As was previously rumored, Windows 8.1 Update 1 will allow users to boot and resume straight to the classic desktop UI, allowing them to bypass the tiled Modern UI altogether. This will likely be a welcome feature considering that the Modern portion of Windows 8 hasn’t been well received since it debuted back in late 2012.
    Changes to the Taskbar
With Windows 8.1 Update 1, you can use both desktop programs and Windows Store apps from the classic desktop UI. Windows Store apps will also work on the desktop UI’s Taskbar as well, and a new button on the Taskbar will permit you to access the Windows Store without forcing you to dive into the Modern UI to do so. With Windows 8.1 Update 1, the Taskbar will be accessible while using Modern apps by moving your mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen.
Tweaks to the Modern UI Start screen:
The Modern UI Start screen will also receive some tweaks, including dedicated Power and Search buttons. The addition of a dedicated power button in the Start Screen will allow users to power their PCs off without having to open the Charms menu, shaving some seconds off the process of shutting down their systems. Newly installed Modern apps will be labeled “New,” and will pull up a drop-down menu when right-clicked, as opposed to the bar on the bottom of the screen.
Overall, Windows 8.1 Update 1 is a minor refresh as opposed to a dramatic makeover. Microsoft also reiterated that Windows 8.1 Update 1 will drop the minimum system requirements to 1GB of RAM and only require 16GB of storage, allowing the OS to run on lower-end PCs.
We look forward to spending time with Windows 8.1 Update 1 once its released next week, and we’ll follow up with our hands-on impressions as well.

In my opinion (and I'm not the only one):
Windows 8 was a bad move (same as Vista).
Windows 8.1 is a roll back to Windows 7.
    p.s.
"Fast boot" is a feature useful for those who boot up the computer all day long.
The main problem is that it's a recipe for problems.
It's based on hibernation (a snapshot of the last working config).
Many people already got corrupted system files after shut down and a minor hardware change.
Simply because the saved snapshot didn't fit with the current config anymore.
That's the (huge) price for those 5-10 seconds boot up time.

  • Windows 8.1 Update Availability

By now you may have heard about the announcement at Build 2014 for Windows 8.1 Update. Please see

This is what other people are experiencing as well.
I installed Update 1 via Windows Update.
    IE11 Desktop stopped functioning.
    Several menu options were disabled.
No link or typing a URL in the address bar worked.
Modern IE 11 appeared to be functioning properly initially.
Reset was not working. Erroneously reported windows open even after restarting the machine with absolutely no 3rd party software running.
    I have uninstalled/disabled all add-ons etc.
No 3rd party AntiVirus is installed.
I have scanned the system using Windows Defender. All clear.
Following troubleshoot instructions I disabled and enabled  IE from Windows Features. This didn't help either.
After re-enabling IE, no version of it functions at all.
I have used the sfc /scannow process, it found files being corrupt and fixed them. Yet IE is still not working.
All other browsers work like a charm and all online features of Windows work as expected.

  • Windows 8.1 - Update 1 requirements

    Hi,
Has anyone come across a list of prerequisite updates that Windows 8.1 Update 1 (KB2919355) requires ?  According to the link below, it particularly needs KB2919442, but doing some testing & manual installing, it looks like it needs more updates
than just that one.  Currently we only deploy updates that have a severity level (eg. Critical, Important, etc.).  KB2919442 has a severity level of None, so it doesn't get deployed.  Windows 8.1 Update 1 (KB2919355) has a severity level of
    Critical.

  • Update the structure

    Hi experts,
is it possibele to update the structure instead of updating the database table......

    hi,
When you change a domain, for example its data type, all the data elements, structures and tables referring to this domain must be activated again. This activation is automatically triggered when the domain is activated. This ensures that all affected runtime objects are adjusted to the changed type
    information.
Changing an ABAP Dictionary object might also affect its dependent objects. Before making a critical
change (such as changing the data type or deleting a field) you should therefore define the set of objects
affected in order to estimate the implications of the planned action.
There is a where-used list for each ABAP Dictionary object with which you can find all the objects that refer to this object. You can call the where-used list from the maintenance transaction of the object.
You can find direct and indirect usages of an ABAP Dictionary object with the where-used list.
You also have to define which usage object types should be included in the search (e.g. all structures and tables
using a data element). You can also search for usages that are not ABAP Dictionary objects (e.g. all programs using a table). The search can also be limited by development class or user namespace.
If an object is probably used by several objects, you should perform the search in the background.
The information about a structure (or table) is distributed in the ABAP Dictionary in domains, data
elements, and the structure definition. The runtime object (nametab) combines this information into a
structure in a form that is optimized for access from ABAP programs. The runtime object is created when
    the structure is activated.
The runtime objects of the structures are buffered so that the ABAP runtime system can quickly access
    this information.
The runtime object contains information about the overall structure (e.g. number of fields) and the
individual structure fields (field name, position of the field in the structure, data type, length, number of
decimal places, reference field, reference table, check table, conversion routine, etc.).
The runtime object of a table contains further information needed by the database interface for
accessing the table data (client dependence, buffering, key fields, etc.).
Runtime objects are created for all ABAP Dictionary objects that can be used as types in ABAP
programs. These are data elements, table types and views, as well as structures and tables.

  • Deploying Windows 8.1 Update 1 - KB2919355

Hi, I know "Update 2" is available now (KB2975719), but I'm still testing it. But I want to push "Update 1" (KB2919355) to all my Windows 8.1 machines.
This wasn't a problem in the past, you just had to ensure the pre-req KB2919442 was installed, and that "Update 1" is given a sufficient "Maximum Run Time" (more than the default 10 mins).
Then another pre-req came along, KB2939057. But it was still offered to the machines, and installed fine.
Now I notice that Update 1 (KB2919355) is no longer being offered to most of my machines. Does anyone know why this is?
You can still download it manually and install it. Or you can run a Windows Update and install various "Critical Updates" for 8.1 (these updates are not visible in SCCM Software Updates), and that seems to make it available then.
Any ideas why most machines are not requesting Update 1, and can't get SCCM to push it to them?
    Thanks.

"To deploy 2919355 and 2919442, you'll need to download them separately and deploy them using a package (or application). This comes down to Microsoft making it very clear that systems without 8.1 Update were no longer supported and thus you've left
yourself in an unsupported configuration by not updating the systems earlier."
Frankly I find this statement offensive.  I just stood up a new SCCM server last month and began deploying fresh instances of Windows 8.1 RTM (what else can I deploy, there is no Windows 8.1 Update RTM).  The fact is that, today, there is no straightforward
way to apply Windows 8.1 Update to a Windows 8.1 RTM using Microsoft's flagship deployment tool.  This is clearly a bug and not a feature.  You seem to be implying that I've done something wrong by "leaving myself in an unsupported configuration
by not updating the systems earlier."  This is a fresh site and I never had that chance.  There is one reasonable solution to this: Microsoft should fix the Windows 8.1 RTM/Update 1 deadlock.

OK, lets do a complete overhaul to make sure it's working ok.
First to check your Windows system file for any corruption:
Go to command prompt (START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES right mouse click "command prompt" and choose "Run as Administrator"
    type in
    sfc /scannow
let Windows fix any system files that need to be repaired.
    Restart the computer.
Start iTunes and see if it is ok.
If it doesn't, will have to go through the whole process of uninstalling and installing acccording to the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
(Referenceinstructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components)
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • Windows 8.1 Update is Garbage

I tried to install the Windows 8.1 update. After 3 hours I found that I only had a blank screen with no keyboard or mouse response. I called into tech support at Microsoft and after waiting and waiting on hold I was told that it might be a video
driver issue. Meantime, I now have a machine that can no long boot. After several reboots and hitting F8 constantly I was able to get the machine to restore the original operating system, Windows 8 Pro. Then I found out that it did something to 2 of my usb
ports that now no longer work. I have 3 ports on my Dell XPS 15 and only one of them works now. I cannot find any errors or anyway to reinitialize the 2 ports. Any suggestions? I should have never tried to run this upgrade what a complete waste of time, and
what a complete piece of crap update. Do Not install this update!!!!

There seems to be an ongoing theme:  People who are comfortable with undertaking in-depth reconfiguration of their operating system and can rely on their large accumulated base of knowledge from past releases can get Windows 8 to
    work.
For me Win 8.1 - the fresh install I mentioned up above - is still working every bit as solidly as Windows 7 did for me:  no crashes, no glitches.  I give it hard daily serious desktop use.  Last bootup
was more than a week ago.  So far the longest stretch I've gone between reboots mandated by Windows Updates or software installs has been 17 days.  It's never crashed.
But I'm under no misconception, even though I've written a book on how to do it,
that Windows 8.1 is an easy system for the masses to use.  With 38 years computer engineering experience I can tell you honestly that it taxed me to my limits to turn it into something with which I can get my work done.  Windows 7
took some skill as well to get running right, but not nearly as much as Windows 8.
Meanwhile, Microsoft does things like not even bother to document it (try clicking a link in an event log dialog, for example).  There comes a price for reducing support:  Fewer people get it to work well for them.  Fewer people can write
good drivers for it.  Fewer people can use it.
Those who know what they're doing worry that Microsoft has lost the very ability to continue to engineer Windows at the professional level.  This version certainly doesn't do
anything better than its predecessor to make it worth putting up with all the negative changes.
