Windows 8.1 Update Install Deadline Extended

Consumer users of Windows 8.1 now have until June 10 to install Microsoft’s operating system update.
In early April, Microsoft released its Windows 8.1 Update and announced that users would have 30 days (until May 13) to install the new update or face losing future update support. Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that
they were going to extend the deadline out another 30 days (until June 10) to ensure the safety of Windows 8.1 users. For organizations, the new deadline for companies to install the update is August 12.
The update reflects a changed policy by Microsoft and while it doesn’t address user feedback request, it does include some new OS features. Applying the update sets a new “service baseline” for a machine and if the update isn’t installed on a Windows 8.1 machine
by the deadline, then that machine will not receive any future updates from Microsoft.
Bottom line: Time to update and install Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 update.

  • Does MC700 support Windows 8.1 Update (install via external DVD)

    Hello,
I have problem with Windows 7 Pro X64 on Bootcamp so I want to re-install Windows with 8.1.
I removed old bootcamp, download lastest driver via Bootcamp assistant. Create new partition for Windows. Reboot and install via DVD external (that DVD get from that MC700). However I got black screen with blinking cursor.
I don't make sure does MC700 (early 2011) support install Windows via external DVD ?
    Hope some ideas !
    Thanks !

How did you delete old windows
How did you create the new partition
Are you using an external DVD drive? This won't work, you need to use the SuperDrive in your Mac
Check here to see what windows you can install

  • Unable to install SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDb on Windows 8.1 Update 1

Apologies if this is not the right place or this has been posted before (I looked and didn't find anything)
I am unable to install SQL Server 2014 Express LocalDb on Windows 8.1 Update 1, as I get an 'Operating System not Supported' error message right away.
What can I do to get this working?

    Hi Zgreve,
    Usually, from
hardware and software requirements for installing SQL Server 2014, we can install SQL Server Express version on the Windows 8.1. For more information, see:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Express.
Before you install SQL Server 2014 Express version, you should ensure installing the .NET Framework 4, then run as administrator for the SQL Server setup.exe again.
There is a similar detail about install SQL Server Express LocalDB via GUI and command line. You can also review the following steps.
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2694/getting-started-with-sql-server-2012-express-localdb/
If the same error about OS still exists,  I recommend you submitting a feedback to Microsoft such issues at

    c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

  • After I installed the windows 8.1 update, podcasts and music won't play

After I installed the windows 8.1  update, itunes stopped playing. When I try to play, it brings up the  song but stays at 0:00. My subscribed podcasts still download but they  all stay at 0:00 too. I can click on a later point in the song/podcast  and it moves to that point but just stays there as if it is paused but  indicating it is playing in the controls.
I  have unistalled/reinstalled itunes and have the same problem.

    Hi there Juniorm1,
Take a look at the article for the current version of iTunes for Windows.

    Hi,
I recently bought the Yoga 2 Pro. Like everybody I have the yellow problem.
After buying it, I reinstalled my computer with a fresh Windows 8.1 pro install.
I was wondering if anybody has already tried updating the BIOS on a clean Windows 8.1 install ?
And also if there is any reported bug with the BIOS update.
I already crashed a while back one of my previous computer and I would prefer if this don't append again
    Thanks,
    Best,

Not, i'm speaking about the BIOS update. The windows 8.1 pro installation was fine.

  • I can't activate windows 8.1 pre-installed on my Toshiba E45-B4200 after BIOS Update

I bought Toshiba laptop Model E45-B4200, at first time I could activate windows 8.1 like a charm.
Few months later Windows 8.1 has crashed, so I did clean install of pre-installed windows, no problem so far. Toshiba Application installer app has downloaded BIOS update, so I ran it.
I tried to activate windows after BIOS update, but it didn`t work. No error message, but Change PC settings window just got minimized every time that I tried to click on Activate Windows option. I thought that I did some mistake, so I repeated windows reinstallation, and same problem occurred again.
Now I can`t update Windows, Office 2013, and so on.
I`ve tried SLUI 4 command to force activation by phone, but it didn`t work as well.
I read on MS blogs that windows 8.1 stores product key on MSDM table, windows should be activated normally. Now I got no options now, can you help me?

It shouldn't need to be activated it. Everything should be automatic. Because it's asking you, that's already indicative of a problem. You might want to call customer support.

  • Windows 8.1 update has been stuck in "Preparing to install" mode for 3 days now and I cannot stop it

My Windows 8.1 update has been showing "Preparing to install..." for 3 days now. When I click "Stop installation" it says I need to provide administrator permission and doesn't have any way for me to provide this. My account is the administrator
    account for my laptop.
I have already seen a similar thread that said to open a command prompt with admin privileges and type "slmgr -skms", but the solution did NOT work. Basically, it said the usage was incorrect and popped up 5 windows of information that I didn't
know how to interpret (yes, I tried to provide the options it wanted, but they were incorrect).
    Any advice would be appreciated!

Ah! This did the trick! Thanks!
In case anyone else has this problem, on Windows 8.1 I had to open up the Control Panel, then type "troubleshooter" in the search box. I clicked "Troubleshooting" and then found "Fix problems with Windows Update" under the System and Security section.
