Windows 8.1 / WimBoot WT8-A32 upgrade to Windows 10 - Success!

I previously had followed the excellent post "Windows 8.1/Wimboot" by tataniko and installed a Wimboot version on my WT8-A32. I was unsure if the Windows 10 upgrade would work on a Wimboot installation. Upgrade to Windows 10 was an absolute success! All devices are working including wireless and GPS. All my settings and programs were retained and are working. I used MediaCreationTool to make an x86 Windows 10 home ISO on another computer. I copied this to a microSD card inserted into my WT8-A32. With 16.3Gb free on my c: drive I opened the ISO and ran setup. An hour or so later without any intervention on my part, I have Windows 10.

My understanding is the free upgrade is good for 1 year meaning July 29,2016, it no longer exists. So you won't be able to upgrade for free after that date. When you upgrade I believe there's a choice to keep your old Windows version so you can go back to it (8.1 or whatever it is).

I have a sony laptop with windows 7 (64 bit) which I upgraded to windows 8 64 bit. But the machine had to be formatted and this time loaded windows 8 32 bit. Now I have tried itunes for 32bit win 8 as well as for 64bit win 8 but none is getting installed

The message I get is, "this programme is not compatible for your pc" (or words to that affect since I dont remember the exact words but this is the meaning).
Can some body send me the link to the right file please. I need iTunes to transfer files from my iPod and iPhone to my laptop.

Windows 10 cannot be activated after upgrade from Windows 7 SP1

I recently tried to upgrade my G62 from Windows 7 to Windows 10. During the regular upgrade, my laptop was shut down - which forced me to use Windows media creator from my flash drive.I was able to install it successfully but for some reason I get an error that my OS cannot be validated.I have my original Windows 7 S/N and validation key.Any help will be appreciatedAssaf

Hi Christian,
Could you please explain when you encounter this error code?
If this occurred when you installing Windows Update, you may try to download it/them from Microsoft Update catalog, and then install them manually.
If this is happened when you upgrade to the new build, you may consider to do a clean install using the Windows 10 9926 build ISO file.

T540p-Fan Behavior after upgrading to Windows 8.1 pro

Hi, i recently upgraded my T540p with an samsung evo 500gb ssd and installed windows 8 pro. I then upgraded to Windows 8.1 pro. My system runs smoothly and i am fairly happy with it. The only thing i have notised is that the fan kicks in every now and then. I have observed that the fan kicks in when the temp of the cpu reaches around 50 degrees celcious. This is a new laptop so the air vents are clean, and i am always using it on a desk. The fan produces a quite audible noise level and i guess it is spinning at higher revs when this happens. When the temp drops below 50 degrees i cant hear it at all. Has anyone else observed similar behaviour on their laptops?

Meanwihle, I have tested for this issue on Windows 7 x64. It’s the same behaviour. Same lower RPM after-sleep-bug (1600 RPM instead of 2000 RPM, Fan does not turn off any more).
I have taken the measurements from TPFanControl (http://www.staff.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/donate.html) and my ears ofc. Just used it with BIOS Fan Control (no custom fan control).
Please Lenovo, help!
Edit: Now tested at Ubuntu 14.10 Linux – same issue. Seems to be system independent. Must be a controller issue :-(

Hi,
Have you checked in the Device Manager to see if all drivers are installed since upgrading? (look for yellow exclamation points)
Uninstall the AMD driver and catalyst control center. Install the version located in the download section of the web support portal for your sleekbook.It will install both driver (intel and AMD) and also switchable graphics capability if it previously existed.

USB 3.0 ports not working after upgrading to Windows 8.1

I have an Asus WIndows 8 laptop that I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 today. My USB 3.0 ports have started acting up. At first they recognized some of my external hard drives but not others. I tested all of the external hard drives and they work fine on my
other machines. I've tested the wires as well. Now, when I plug my external hard drives into the USB 3.0 ports, none of them work at all. All of them work fine on the 2.0 USB port though. How can I get my USB 3.0 ports working again?

I have a ipod nano shuffle, 6th gen. I bought it when I had Windows Vista. I upgraded to Windows Ultimate 7. Now it keeps shutting off. Have to press power button and touch arrow to restart. 3 to 4 times a song. I ran diagnostics. Passed until end.

In-Place Upgrade from Windows 7 Ent N to Windows 8 Ent N not working

I have spent the better part of 2 days trying to get Windows 7 Enterprise N to upgrade to Windows 8 Enterprise N with no results. The error message I receive after selecting the upgrade option and the subsequent compatibility check is:
Windows 7 Enterprise N cannot be upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise N. You can choose to install a new copy of Windows 8 Enterprise N instead, but this is different from an upgrade, and does not keep your files, settings, and programs. You'll need to reinstall
any programs using the original installation discs or files. To save your files before installing Windows, back them up to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive. To install a new copy of Windows 8 Enterprise N, click the Back button
in the upper left-hand corner, and select Custom (advanced).
I have tested both production and MSDN copies of Windows 7 Ent N > Windows 8 Ent N and neither will upgrade. Per MS documentation, I SHOULD be able to upgrade. I've found nothing regarding this via search engine except one person having the
same issue when Windows 8 was still RTM. However, no one replied back to him.

The Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Upgrade Paths page show what versions of Windows 7 can be upgraded in place to Windows 8. According to the page, the only versions of Windows 7 that
can be upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise are:
Windows 7 Professional (Volume License)
Windows 7 Enterprise (Volume License)
Windows 8 (Volume License)
As you can see, there is no mention of any N Edition of Windows having the capability to upgrade in place.

Tengo un G580 con windows 8 instalado y actualizado completamente, cuando intento actualizar a windows 8.1 mediante la Tienda, sale un mensage que dice:
La tienda Windows no esta disponible en este equipo.
Ponte en contacto con el administrador del sistema para obtener informacion.
Soy el unico usuario con privilegios de administrador, en Windows Update no aparece la actualizacion a Windows 8.1
¿Alguna Solucion?.

I have a G580 with windows 8 installed and updated completely, when I try to upgrade to 8.1 through the shop windows, I get a message that says:
The Windows Store is not available on this computer.
Contact your system administrator for information.
I am the only user with administrator privileges in Windows Update does not appear the upgrade to Windows 8.1
Any Solution?.

Here is a link to the Windows Compatibility Center where you can have it scan your computer to ensure you can update to Windows 8.1.
The errors you received are usually due to a driver issue.

Upgrading to Windows 10

I have Windows 7. I want to upgrade to Windows 10 while it's free. My question is: what does that mean for Acer backup manager. Acer backup manager seems to take presidence over the windows version of backup manager. If I upgrade I want to be able to make a recovery disc for windows 10. I'm not sure how all that will work while having acer backup manager in the background.

HP Stream 14 upgrade to Windows 10?

I am running a new HP stream 14 touchscreen with windows 8.1 I want to upgrade to windows 10 before I am back to school (before i have to install all kinds of software and files) Obciously the Stream does not have enough SSD left to preform the upgrade. I have created a clean install USB thumb drive but am worried about using it. From what i have read the recovery partition that is not deleteable houses files that the system accesses. When i do a Clean install wiping the C drive (but not the partition) will everything work? will i loose the use of that partition space forever? and lastly I used a program to access my windows key since it is located in the bios not on a sticker but I want to know if anyone else has done this and did it auto detect? or did they run in to any problems. Sorry if this is all posted somewhere else but i am not finding any information at all.

Hi, 1. You can have this option: create a Recovery media (USB key) then delete the Recovery partition, this will give you more room.2. Not 100% work unless Windows 10 or you can dind all drivers for your computer. Again, to get more space, you can delete Recovery partition but please create a Recovery set/media first.3. I upgraded 5 laptops on weekend inluding 2 HP laptops. I used tool to get the keys by Windows 10 upgrade (not clean install) could detect the keys in BIOS. I still have few more laptops and my children laptops I will upgrade. I won't do clean install because I don't want to spend time to re-install all programs/applications again. Regards.

Incorrect resolution after upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1

I have W510 4389-P2G which had 1920x1200 resolution in Windows 7 and 8. After upgrade to Windows 8.1 the monitor became blurry and resolution is now 1920x1080. In Device manager I can see Thinkpad Display 1920x1080 driver. After uninstalling the driver and installing newest drivers for W510 and restarting (I also tried drivers for W500) the result is always 1920x1080. What can I do to solve the problem?

My W510 has always been 1920x1200 until I intalled Windows 8.1
Now, the screen is blurry with less vertical space and resolution 1920x1080
