Windows 8.1 with Bitlocker

Hello Experts?
I have a one big problema. Today i was found problem on my directors portable hard disk. He has used bitlocker drive encryption and remember his password. When plugged hard disk then unlock drive enter password with completed successfully. But Not access
hard disk "access is denied" error. How can access hard disk then unlock drive? Please help me.
Ps: I can access hard disk from cmd with eveluated permission(Run as administrator). But cant access Windows Explorer.

Hi machado_mn,
I agree with Ronald here.
Access denied error When you trying to access the files on the hard disk should be related with the NTFS file permissions.
You may try to take ownership of the files and then change with the right permissions.
For your reference:
Take Ownership of a File or Folder
Set, View, Change, or Remove Permissions on Files and Folders
How do I open a file if I get  an access denied message?

  • I recently purchased windows 7 ultimate with bitlocker.

I am having a problem with bitlock on the os drive, it asked me if I have trusted platform module and the I may need to activat it by going to bios and activate it there. I have a Pavilion A4313W not sure of bios release but i can get it and log back on if needed. I am trying to find out what I need to do, if I do not have a TPM can I get one.

Some motherboards have a TPM chip built in.  OEM version, especially desktops would not normally, unless it was requested in the Business platforms.  If yours does have the chip, it should be evident in the motherboard somewhere, and marked TPM.  Here is a page that shows a typical hardware device: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 DNS service issue with BitLocker

I recently installed BitLocker on a Windows Server 2008 Platform. I did not encrypt the boot partition because the server hardware BIOS did not have the necessary requirements to encrypt the system drive.
The Server roles are ADSM, DC and File Server. For DC operation I am also running the DNS service.
When I installed the DNS role I was prompted to install the Log files on a different volume than the OS. I did this, but unfortunately, it was the same volume that was encrypted.
Since I could not encrypt the system disk, the encrypted volume must be unlocked via password in order to mount. Here in lise my problem.
When I do a full reboot of the server, I get to the point in the boot process where my mouse is visible and operational (this would be just before the Windows OS logo displays, I believe), then the server reboots. On the next boot up I am given the diagonstics
and recovery dialog because the OS failed to boot.
I believe the failure is the DNS service trying to launch, but because the log files are on the encrypted drive and it has not been unlocked, the system sees this as a security problem and reboots
Does this make sense? If it does, is there a way to boot 2008 R2 with the DNS service disabled, say with the original install disk in recovery mode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this system cannot be booted in its current state.

    Hi,
I believe you mean the Active Directory Logs not the DNS logs, because these are necessary to startup a domain controller, because the AD database depends on these logs.
So if you have AD logs on a different partition and that is encrypted with Bitlocker you could probably automatically unlock it.
So you did not encrypt OS partition because the server does not have a TPM fully compliant chip ?
    manage-bde /?
    manage-bde -autounlock -enable Driveletter:
But you have to be able to boot server normal mode I am not sure if the command can be used in DSRM mode.

  • R&R won't install on Windows 7 with BitLocker

    Hi all,
I am trying to install the latest version of R&R (v4.3) on my T400 that is running Windows 7 64 bits. In my setup, I have 3 partitions (C, D and E) and have BitLocker enabled for C and E.
While trying to install, I got the warning message to suspend or remove BitLocker encryption before I'm allowed to continue. I followed the instructions to suspend BitLocker in C and restarted the installation. However, I'm again prompted with the same warning message as before.
I just want to check if this is a bug with the installer (since I've already suspended BitLocker in C) or do I really have to remove BitLocker from both C and E partitions (which I really hate to as its really time consuming).
    Any advice is much appreciated.

    Hi,
Maybe too muh info, but really usefull for your situation:
To achieve compatibility with BitLocker Drive Encryption, it is recommended to
install the Rescue and Recovery program to your operating system after the
partitions are properly set up with the Microsoft Bitlocker Drive Preparation Tool.
When setting up the BitLocker partition, it is recommended to use the Microsoft
BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool. The boot partition should be at least 2 GB in
    size.
If you do not use the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool to prepare the BitLocker
partition, you must have two partitions on your system when installing Windows
=> One partition should be 2 GB and marked as active; this is where the boot files
    reside.
=> The other is where your operating system is installed and where your data
will reside. When Windows 7 is installed, it will detect the two partitions and
should install only the boot files to the smaller partition. Both partitions should be
    type 0x07.
    Compatibility with BitLocker without TPM
If the security chip (TPM) is not activated in the BIOS Setup Utility, to achieve
compatibility with BitLocker without TPM, do the following:
    1. Run gpedit.msc from the Start menu. The Group Policy Editor window opens.
    2. Click Computer Configuration → Windows Components → BitLocker Drive
    Encryption → Operating System Drives.
    3. Enable the Require additional authentication at startup option
    4. Select the option Allow BitLocker without a compatible TPM.
Best practice of BitLocker encryption on a system with the
    Rescue and Recovery program
To have the Rescue and Recovery program work correctly with BitLocker in
    Windows 7:
    1. Uninstall the Rescue and Recovery program if it has been installed.
    2. Restart the computer and use the BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool to prepare
the system for BitLocker Drive Encryption.
    3. Install the Rescue and Recovery program and restart the computer.
    4. Start BitLocker from Control Panel and choose the partition to encrypt.
Note: It is recommended to encrypt the Windows operating system partition
    (usually drive C) only.
    5. Click Turn on BitLocker, and follow the instruction on the screen to encrypt
the chosen partition. After that, a recovery key is automatically created.
    6. Save the recovery key to a USB storage device.
Note: Keep the USB storage device in a secured place. The recovery key is
needed when booting to Windows 7 or the Rescue and Recovery workspace.
The BitLocker encryption will be lost if the hard disk drive is cleared by the
Diskpart commands or other hard disk tools.
    7. Wait until the encryption process completes. After that, you can use the Rescue
and Recovery program to perform backup and restore operations.
For more information about BitLocker, go to the Microsoft Web site at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933246/
    Notes:
    1. When setting up BitLocker in Windows 7, the BitLocker partition should be
after the Windows operating system partition for best results. If it is placed
before the Windows operating system partition, the partition number will need
to be updated in the Rescue and Recovery ADM settings.
    2. When restoring a system that is using Windows 7 and BitLocker, a message
will display, indicating that there was an error at shutdown. The message can
be ignored and everything should operate normally.
    3. For OEM or non-Lenovo standard preload systems, you need to suspend the
encryption of the Windows operating system partition when performing any
backup or restore operations using the Rescue and Recovery program,
otherwise the Rescue and Recovery program will not enter PDA.
    4. You might need to clear the TPM and encrypt the partitions again after
restoring the system from a backup with BitLocker encryption.
Let me know, if you need any more specific information.
    Cheers

  • Windows 7 does not power off properly with bitlocker enabled

    Hi
I've got an X200T and installed W7 Enterprise. Things are mostly working fine but i ran into a problem with bitlocker.
When shutting down, the shutdown process but does not power off my laptop battery: bluetooth light stays on, fan stays on, hardrive stay on.
the funny thing is if i force the complete shutdown by pressing the ON/OFF button for several seconds, the next startup run smoothly, the system does not detect any wrong shutdown.
i found a threat relative to this problem elsewhere but nothing on this forum.
i'm wondering if any of yours are able to run W7 enterprise 32bits + X200T + bitlocker without any problem
    Let me know
    cheers

    Hi,
I can not tell you about a correlation between your problem and Bitlocker, but what I can tell is that I also have this issue (from time to time - my system is seldom shut down ^^) on my machine, which is a T400, without using Bitlocker. So maybe this is a BIOS defect, as I don't remember this happening before BIOS version 3.
OSs under which this happened are Vista x64 and Win7 x64.
    Greetz!

  • Lenovo Helix - On-Screen Keyboard with Bitlocker

    Hi Community,
i've tried to install Bitlocker on my Lenovo Helix with Windows 8.1 Pro. As long as the dock is connected with the tablet, you can decrypt the harddisk with the right key. But if the tablet hasn't a dock or an external keyboard you'll only see the blue bitlocker-homescreen and can't do anything.
Another helix in my company works with bitlocker - so i know it can work.
    i've tried the following things:
         - different Bios-Versions
         - install all drivers and additional software
         - set up a new Windows 8/ Windows 8.1 (Pro)
The on-screen keyboard works by adding a Bios-password.
Btw: The helix won't let me install Windows in UEFI-Mode..
    Can somebody help me?

current, it runs on legacy boot - the uefi bootloader doesn't work for x86 Win8.1 (http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=SF13-T0008)
well, i have to install 32-Bit. The helix in Uefi-Mode only boots from the x64-Win8.1-DVD (or USB-Stick)...

  • Tutorial - How to triple boot OSX, Linux and Windows 8.1 with a shared Data Partition without any third party Win / OSX softwares

This is not a question, but rather a personal guide that has proved to be running successfully.
I would like to thank numerous sources, including Christopher Murphy's suggestions at:
Re: Repairing Boot Camp after creating new partition
Before proceeding, there are certain concepts needs to know:
Why Boot Camp does NOT allow further partitioning of drives after Windows has installed?
Answer: Because the way Apple configures the Mac to be recognized as non UEFI capable system on Windows.
Quote from Christopher Murphy based on the above line:
However, Windows on Macs right now use CSM-BIOS mode in Mac firmware that presents BIOS to Windows rather than EFI. Windows thinks it's on a BIOS computer, and therefore mandates the use of MBR for boot disks, rather than GPT. So that's why we have this hybrid MBR+GPT approach on Mac with Windows on it. You inherit the limitations of MBR, which is four primary partitions.
    So what does it means?
It means that OSX + EFI + Recovery HD + Boot Camp partition = 4 primary partitions and thus any attempt to modify the disk will render booting issues of either system.
For more info on GPT (GUID Partition Table disks VS Master Boot Record or MBR in short, you may visit: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn640535%28v=vs.85%29.a spx)
    So, how to overcome it?
The general guideline is to install ALL GPT ready OS first then create a Data partition, before installing Windows (Which is again, NOT supported GPT due to EFI configuration by Apple where end-users are not able to modify it).
Interestingly, since Mac Pro 2013 Late supports only Windows 8 and above, thus it is not known if this CSM-BIOS applies to it or not.
Do take note that GPT disks in Windows can only be booted when the system meets the 2 requirements:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn640535%28v=vs.85%29.a spx#gpt_faq_win7_boot
    1) Windows x64 version (Which is a must for newer Macs. If you cannot go to Boot Camp 5, then you need Windows 7 x86 or 32bit version)
    2) UEFI system. However, Windows sees all Macs (With the possibility of Mac Pro 2013 Late is an exception. To be determined) as BIOS, or rather NON-UEFI system.
In short, booting on GPT disks is not possible for Mac in Windows.
    Summary,
It is tested that a combination of the following will not work:
    - OSX + Windows + Linux
    - Windows + OSX + Linux
    - Windows + Linux + OSX
Usually it can create the system un-bootable or OSX refused to install due to the system does not recognize such partitions and / or Disk Utility refused to format a free space. An example screen-shot is provided below:
The error message is shown as
Title: "Failed to erase volume" Message: "Failed to wipe volume, as an error occurred: MediaKit has reported that the device does not have enough free space to execute the requested operations."
The second thing is about the preparations we need.
    1) 1X Windows 7 or 8 DVD or USB thumbdrive
1A) If you uses a DVD to install, you will need another thumbdrive to load the BootCamp drivers for Windows as well as may requires an external DVD drive for newer Macs
    2) 1X Linux DVD of your choice. Personally I choose Fedora 20.
    So ready? Let's go.
    1. Using Disk Utility, shrink the OSX's partition size to what is needed. For me, I give OSX 150GB. Do NOT create any new partition.
Disk Utility should see something like below whereby only OSX partition is left with desired disk space. The remaining space are to be unused disk space for the moment.
Note: Click on the top most item that should start with the size of your HDD / SSD. Then clicked on "Partition" and specify the desired OSX size. Hit "Apply" after that.
2: Download Boot Camp drivers only via Boot Camp Assistant. The USB thumbdrive shall be used later after Linux's installation.
Boot Camp Assistant should see this:
I have only selected "Download latest Windows Support Files from Apple"
    3. Insert Linux DVD, reboot Mac into EFI mode (The left most first "EFI mode").
Note 1: Before rebooting, please plugged in an Ethernet adapter because Wi-Fi drivers is not installed.
Note 2: For Thunderbolt adapters, it must be plugged in before reboot as hot-swapping is not supported under Linux. More on the tips at the end of this article.
Note 3: Press and hold "Option" after the screen turns black. Release Option key after you see the image as below:

For the unfortunate part that did not make it on time to edit the images:
    9. Install the Windows Support software from your CD/USB drive to gain full functionality of your computer. Reboot and go to Windows again.
Note 1: You may choose to eject disc at this point of time. For Apple SuperDrive users, you will need to wait until the drivers (i.e. Boot Camp support files) is installed and rebooted before ejecting is reasonably possible (As I failed to figured out how to right click without the drivers)
Note 2: Unlike Windows 7 on KBase article TS4599 Keyboard/trackpad inoperative, black screen, or alert messages when installing Windows 7, USB stick can be plugged in after the Windows installation is done. This is because Windows 7 (And probably Windows 7 with SP1 DVD) does not have a built in USB 3 drivers when it was released back in 2009 where USB3 has not arrived then.
Note 3: Due to TPM, Bitlocker is not supported without the use of thumbdrives.
    10. Using Disk Management to determine the given drive letter for the DATA partition (DO NOT DELETE and RECREATE partition or else you can goodbye to booting Linux and OSX). Disk Management will not allow you to format it as exFAT / FAT32 in graphical way.
Note: You may remove or modify some of the disk letters in Disk Management. However, do NOT remove / modfify the drive letter for the partition with 200MB size in HFS. This is because it will disallow booting of Linux and neither could Windows nor OSX can do anything EXCEPT to reinstall Linux only.
    11. Open Command Prompt in Administrator Mode (Important!!), and key in the following command:
    format F: /FS:exFAT
Give this volume a label after it has successfully formatted before hitting "Enter" again.
Note: Mine Data partition was assigned as F drive. Please make necessary adjustment to "F:" should your Data partition is assigned to other letters.
    12. After that, Setup your Data partition structure as you like.
Tip: Minimally create the important folders such as:
    - Music
    - Documents
    - Movie (Videos)
    - Downloads
    - Pictures
All these folders are commonly used by the 3 OSes. I do NOT recommend changing of /home (OSX and / or Linux) and / or user home directory (Windows) either partially or as a whole.
This is because of compatibility issue.
On a side note, iTunes Media Library used in OSX and Windows are NOT able to be use interchangably due to hard-coded path used.
    13. Useful troubleshooting in Fedora / Linux:
    With references to these:
    http://chaidarun.com/fedora-mbp
    http://anderson.the-silvas.com/2014/02/14/fedora-20-on-a-macbook-pro-13-late-201 3-retina-display/
    http://unencumberedbyfacts.com/2013/08/16/linux-on-a-macbook-pro-101/
I would like to highlight a few important points:
    1) Wi-Fi driver:
    http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
Note 1: The sound driver should be installed at Out of Box Experience. However, the Wi-Fi is not.
Note 2: Install both free and non-free repository. By the way, some other software like VLC can only be found after the Free Repository is installed.
Search for "akmod-wl" in Gnome-Package-Installer in order to install Wi-Fi drivers
Note 3: For those who do not have Ethernet adapters and their Mac does NOT have a built-in Ethernet port, it is recommended to get one. This is because Fedora 20 does not have a good support for iPhone USB tethering. Unsure for Andriod / Blackberry / Windows Phone users.
    2) Grub Menu:
It will show several options to boot into OSX, even of the capability to boot into x86 or x64 mode. However, neither of them is bootable except Linux and the rescue.
Hence, it is recommended to remove the items by hand in this file:
    /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg
    Command to be used:
    "sudo gedit /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg"
    Parts to be removed:
    - For any extra kernels, delete the target entry by locating the line "menuentry" under "/etc/grub.d/10_linux" sector to one line above the next "menuentry".
It is recommended to keep one main kernel, and one recovery at the minimal.
    - For other OS, delete all the entry (Since neither it can works) under "/etc/grub.d/30_os-prober" sector without removing the lines starts with ###.
    Auto Mount exFAT partition:
    - After installing extra packages for exFAT support (Since it is not supported by Fedora 20 from a default installation), you may wish to edit "/etc/fstab" in order to mount the exFAT partition during boot time.
    Command to be used:
    "sudo gedit /etc/fstab"
Add the following line in gedit:
    UUID=702D-912D /run/media/Samuel/DATA                   exfat    defaults        1 2
Note 1: For DATA partition, OSX & Boot Camp partition, Fedora defaults mounts under: "/run/medua/<Username with case sensitive>/<Partition Label Name>"
Note 2: UUID is unique ID. You can find out the UUID by:
Step 1: First determine the DATA partition number:
    "sudo gdisk /dev/sda"
Step 2: Determine the UUID of this partition number:
    "sudo blkid /dev/sda8"
    Reference 1: http://manpages.courier-mta.org/htmlman5/fstab.5.html
    Reference 2: http://liquidat.wordpress.com/2007/10/15/short-tip-get-uuid-of-hard-disks/
    3) Overheating CPU
Solution is to issue the following command in Linux terminal: su -c "echo -n 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turbo"
    4) System resumes immediately after suspend
Solution is to issue the following command in Linux terminal: su -c "echo XHC1 > /proc/acpi/wakeup"
    5) What does not works well out of box:
    - Both GNOME and KDE's fonts are too small to be readable for out of box experience. Additional configuration is a need. (Some of the info can be found on "More Tips" later)
    - Thunderbolt hotplugging is NOT supported under Windows and Linux so far. Neither FaceTime HD camera works as well.
    - The red light in Headphone jack is always on. I do not have luck in switching off the light without losing the sound.
Note 1: It is determined that the module "snd_hda_intel" is used by both cards (HDMI and normal output)
Note 2: It is also known that blacklisting it can switch off the redlight at the price of muting the system.
Note: Based on this article, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1574
A Mac (Except Mac Pro) needs servicing when there is a red light while the system fails to detect internal speakers. However, this article does NOT applies to this issue.
    5A) More Tips:
    Install gnome-tweak-tool for more customization
    Search for: "gnome-package" to install:
Install Gnome Package Installer for advanced package repository
Install Gnome Package Updater for advanced updates to be install (Whereby Fedora's App Store alike might not show the relevant updates)
    14. Verify if disk is still GPT:
Use Gdisk to determine if the disk is pure GPT:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1742682
Command: sudo gdisk -l /dev/sda (The entire hard drive)
You should see the MBR is "Protective" instead of anything else.
    15. Congrats, the system is ready for triple boot. (I forgot to eject my Windows DVD when the photo was taken)
Note 1: You cannot set the default startup disk in Linux due to the lack of Boot Camp Control Panel in Linux.
Neither is changing startup disk recommended in Windows due to the inability to display correctly.
For me, I click "Cancel" whenever I am on this tab (Feel free to make other Boot Camp adjustments in other tabs).
Only OSX I know that can show the startup disk options correctly.
Note 2: For some reason, OSX likes to auto mount the EFI partition everytime it boots up. It is not known to have any issue for ejecting other disks or mounting disks via Disk Utility.
Note 3: It is not determined if any Firmware or System upgrades will cause issues. It is only known that all 3 OS's regular updates should not be an issue.
System Updates excludes Mac OSX 10.9.3 updates to OSX 10.9.4 type as I had done it on a OSX 10.9.4 Mac or Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Update 1 since my Windows DVD comes with Update 1.
System Upgrades refers to OSX Mavericks to Yosemite, Fedora 20 to Fedora 21, Windows 8.1 Update 1 to Windows 8.2 / Windows 9 for that matter.
Note 4: Reset SMC and / or PRAM will NOT affect your ability to boot any of the OS (OSX, Recovery HD, Fedora & Windows 8)
    Yup, that is it!

  • Receiving bitlocker error in Event Viewer whenever i attach an external HD to my desktop (non are encrypted with bitlocker)

    Hello All,
Seem to be having a problem recently.  Whenever I attach any external drive to my Desktop I receive the following error in Even Viewer.  I never encrypted any of the drives in question with bitlocker.
Encrypted volume check: Volume information on \\?\Volume{7cc70383-5d6b-11e0-855c-001c25a5a540} cannot be read.
    Event ID: 24620
And I cannot access my drive information.    At first i thought it may be an issue with one of the drives I have partially encrypted with TrueCrypt but I tried several other unencrypted drives and I receive the same error and I cannot access the
    data on my drives.
I tried to access the Bit Locker Recovery tool program (downloaded the VISTA Version since there was no Windows 7 Version that I could find), but it did not allow me to install the recovery tool to attempt some kind of fixing.
The strange thing is that I do not have Windows 7 Ultimate installed (which from what I understand is the only way to have Bitlocker).  I have windows 7 professional and I never encrypted my drives with bitlocker, 1 out of the 3 drives is partially
encrypted with TrueCrypt, the other 2 are not encrypted with anything.
The stranger thing is that I can plug the external drives to another laptop and I can access the data fine with no problem or errors.  I searched the forum for simliar problems, but did not see any responses with fixes to this issue.
The only thing I can think of is that my Desktop downloaded and installed a bunch of Windows Updates within the last 4-5 days.
    heres is the update list
    http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5304/5890096650_431b0f3627_b.jpg
Any assistance in attempting to figure this out would be appreciated.

    Hi,
According to the error message, it should use
BitLocker Repair Tool to fix it, refer:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734057(WS.10).aspx
What error message did you receive when you use BitLocker repair Tool?
I notice one drive is encrypted with TrueCrypt, please use that program to unencrypt the drive for test.
If it doesn’t work, since the issue didn’t appear before, you can try to perform a system restore to see the result.
    Hope that helps.

  • How to re-lock a drive with bitlocker

I am using windows 7 bitlocker to encrypt a secondary hard drive. So I unlock the drive with the password successfully. Now how do I relock the drive? The only way I can see is to restart the machine. What bothers me is that even if you log off, and log in as another user the drive is still unlocked! Isnt there a menu item or option to re-lock it?-mi

    I made a .cmd-file to re-lock the drives:
From a cmd-prompt, type the following:
    C:\Windows\system32>copy con lockdrive.cmd
    manage-bde -lock l:
    manage-bde -lock k:
    ^Z     [press CTRL-Z]
            1 file(s) copied.
Replace l: and/or k: to the corresponding drive letter on your computer.
Make a shortcut to the lockdrive.cmd-file, and check the "run as administrator" check box.
    Rgs,
    Inge
That works great, thank you. Some points to clarify for those of us not so advanced in computing. Just to point out I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with UAC turned off. I'm
not sure if this will work in other versions or with UAC on, I think so but perhaps someone will confirm this.
To turn off UAC, go to control panel, select 'User Accounts' then your account name, 'Change user account control settings' and select 'Never notify' and reboot. Next navigate
to 'Control panel / Folder options', click the 'View' tab and move the radio button to 'Show hidden files, folders and drives', then uncheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types' box, Apply, OK and close Control panel.
    1. It is easier to go to your windows folder, find the System32 folder, put your mouse cursor on it, hold the shift key, right click and select 'Open command prompt here'. That
way when the DOS window opens you only need to type "copy con lockdrive.cmd" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
    2. Type "manage-bde -lock #:" again without the quotes and replace the "#" with the letter of your bitlocker drive as Inge stated. If you have another drive to lock then repeat
this line with your other drive letter and press Enter.
    3. Hold 'Ctrl' on your keyboard and press the 'Z' key once, '^Z' will be displayed, press Enter on your keyboard and '1 file(s) copied' will be displayed.
    4. Type "exit" (no quotes) to close the DOS window.
    5. Navigate into this folder 'C:\Windows\System32' and look for the file 'lockdrive.cmd', right click it and select 'create shortcut' a new file called 'lockdrive.cmd shortcut'
will appear below it. Right click the shortcut file and select 'Cut'.
    6. Navigate to 'C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs' right click in a blank area of the window where your Accessories and Administrive
Tools are (being sure not to highlight one of the other files) and select 'Paste'.
    7. Right click the ''lockdrive.cmd shortcut' and select 'Rename' and just call it 'Lockdrive.cmd' and press Enter, then close all windows.
    8. Click 'Start', select 'All Programs' and look for your 'lockdrive.cmd' file. Put your mouse on it, left click and hold the button down. Drag it down to the 'Back' selection which
was 'All Programs' and wait for the first Start Menu to appear, move your mouse up to a blank area and release the button. If done correctly you should now have 'lockfile.cmd' on your main Start menu. Click it to lock your drive.
    9. Navigate to 'Control panel / Folder options' and on the 'General' tab select 'Restore Defaults' and Apply. Select the 'View' tab and select 'Restore Defaults' and Apply.
    Click 'OK' and you’re done.
Thanks to Inge for this short and perfect work-around.

  • Does Windows Intune come with a Windows License

Does a Windows Intune subscription still come with a Windows Enterprise upgrade license?
We've got some Windows 7 Professional PC's and some Windows 8.1 PC's and we require two things: -
      1: BitLocker
      2: Windows Intune
I don't want to have to pay to upgrade ALL of the PC's to Windows 8.1 Professional in order to get BitLocker and then roll out Windows Intune. I am hoping I can buy a Windows Intune subscription for each user, and be given a licence to upgrade their
primary PC to Windows 8.1 Enterprise - therefore allowing me to enable BitLocker on each PC.
I would really like an answer about the "Enterprise Licence" for Windows Intune.
    Regards,
Mark G Briggs - technology is a passion

    Hello,
if you wants to have Windows 8.1 Enterprise (includes BitLocker) than you need to purchase Windows Intune subscription with Software assurance for Windows for each device with Windows 7 professional.
Note:The Windows operating system upgrade included with Windows Intune with Software Assurance for Windows can only be used on the licensed user’s primary PC. However,
you can manage an additional four (4) devices.

  • How do I install Elements for Windows 7 PC with 64 bit? Get error message - file archive part missing

We purchased Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 on September 7, 2014 and have tried a variety of things including searching through FAQs on the Adobe site, etc. etc. and cannot get our downloads to work. We are avid computer users and have never had problems downloading software before.
From our account under "orders" - I have tried clicking on the Akamai download manager and the Alternate Download Method on for each application with the same results.
We have a Windows 7 PC with a 64 bit operating system and Internet Explorer 11.
On all attempts we get an Adobe screen with 2 links – 1 for a file ending in .7z and a 2nd file ending in .exe.
I click on the first file and confirm the download completes at 100% (not paused, etc.) and is in the downloads folder for my user name on the PC.
I click on the 2nd link for .exe and I receive the error message below – 2nd screen shot – “file archive is missing” all folders/files must be in same folder.
So I see it’s a winzip file (as a winzip pop up folder had come up also) so I download the free version and unzip the files in the same downloads folder under my user name to try that.
I click on .exe file link again and same message. I tried copying the files directly to the downloads folder (as they all unzipped into a subfolder called PSE 12 and tried clicking on .exe again but get the same message.
For Premiere I tried the same and got same results on the 64 bit version download.
I do not know how to access the software we purchased.
Any help or advice is appreciated.
Also - if anyone knows how I can contact Adobe for a full refund so I can just buy the boxed software instead - that would be helpful as well as that is not easy to find online either.
    Thanks!
    Ariel

I get an error message saying that the quicktime installer will only work on 32 bit
The QuickTime player works on 64-bit systems. (It's a 32-bit application, but it should run fine using the standard 32-bit-on-64-bit Windows-on-Windows emulation.)
What's the precise text of your installation error message, dc? (There one or two different ones I can think of that might mention 32-bit)

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD quad core processor and AMD E1-2100 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8210 Graphics Card. I have installed the latest driver version 13.152.0.0. When I activate puppet warp, the mesh appears over the image and I can place the first pin.  However, when I go to add the second pin, Photoshop crashes. I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

  • Home Sharing will not work with my Windows 8 64bit with new itunes.  All of my Apple TVs will not see my library and my iphones will not function with the "Remote" App.  They all did before.  Only thing that has changed is new PC/itunes.  Any Ideas?

Installed a new Windows PC on my home network.  PC is Windows 8/64bit. with latest version of itunes 11.1.4.62 for 64bit.  My itunes works, but I can not get Home Sharing to function now.  None of my Apple TV's can see my computer library and prompt me to turn it on.  All of my iphones, pods, pad, can not use the "Remote" app.  When you prompt your phone in Remote App to "add library" and you get the code....iTunes doesnt give you the remote screen where you can enter the code.  I have reloaded iTunes, reset my router, updated all devices.  You can turn on "Home Sharing" on iTunes, but then it closes and doesnt seem to link my devices like it use to.  Also, when the new version of iTunes is up on my PC, you can see the other devices to AirPlay to like you could before.  However, I can send items from my iphone to stream to an Apple TV, I just cant link them all like I could before and control the music playing to multiple Apple TV.  Growing fustrated.  Any ideas, would be helpful.

You are a legend!!  I have spent countless hours uninstalling, reinstalling itunes, playing with firewall settings, reading articles on this problem!!  I only have to un-sync my iphone 5 and then the airplay icon magically appeared!!!  Maybe I have too many devices syncing via wi-fi, or maybe it is the Iphone syncing??
Whatever - one step and now I can enjoy my music through my house again!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
