Windows 8.1 won't recgonize Z10

Have BBZ10 and recently purchased a new computer (Dell XPS 15).  I tried to connect the phone to the computer and it will not recognize it despite trying various techniques on simular posts.  My device connects to my other machine that runs 8.1 but that machine only has USB 2 whereas this machine uses USB 3 only.  I have tried updating drivers in device manager, deleteing them and reintalling, have reinstalled Link about a dozen times, Mass Storage ON/OFF, Airplane mode, WIFI off, all the USB ports, downloaded various USB drivers from RIM, and still no luck.  The phone will charge when connected via USB but the computer will not recognize it nor will the phone show it being connected to a PC.
Something that I have also noted that I have not yet read in other posts is that my PC will detect the phone just as it starts back up (during reboot of phone).  It will add it in the Device Manager quickly under "Blackberry" with a USB icon all on its own, not under the USB tree.  As soon as it installs the "device software" it goes grey and I cannot get my PC recognize the device.
I am using the latest edition of the Dell XPS 15 with no additions and it is running Windows 8.1 as installed by dell.  The device will connect if I enable WIFI connection but will not connect otherwise.  Does anyone have an suggestions or a link to a solution that worked?
Thanks for your time.

Also check in the Windows Device Manger to see if the Z10 is listed preceded with a yellow triangle or exclamation mark..

  • Computer won't recgonize

My computer won't recgonize when my ipod is plugged in. I know it's not the computer or the usb cable that is faulty because my brother's nano works just fine with the same cord. I read that I should try to restore the ipod, but I can't restore it without connecting to the computer. What should I do?
    Gateway   Windows XP

same problem. one day my pod wouldnt play any of the 300 songs that were on it. so i plugged it into my computer and bam every song erased. now everytime i plug it in windows doesnt recognize it and when i unplug it, it resets which is probably how my songs got erased. it was working fine until last time i tried to use it and this happened. i dont have another cord to try, or another computer. did everything i could in the support section and it all checked out. device manager says usb ports are working fine even though none of them work. so what gives.

  • Windows 8.1 won't install on partition

    Hi,
I have a late 2012 mac mini and trying to install Windows 8.1 through Boot Camp, using a USB drive.
When I get to the point of choosing the partition to install the Windows in, the only formattable partition (the Windows dedicated one) won't let me install.
When I click the details, a message stating that the partition is MBR and windows needs a GPT partition and thus cannot be installed.
However, checking with Disk Utility the disk appears as GPT.
What am I missing here and what's the solution for my problem?
I'm kind of frustrated and need that windows to run some work applications.
    Thanks!

I have another external hard disk connected via USB.
    Can it be the issue?
I did choose EFI during boot because if I let it run alone and choose "Windows" I only get a DOS looking message that tells me to put a bootable media and press any key, but it doesn't respond to anything, forcing me to hard shut down the computer pressing long time the power button.

  • Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?

Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?
As far as System Requirements go, they are the same for WIN 8 and WIN 8.1
    Sympton:
Windows 8.1 Installation DVD loads for some time, no circle of dots, then PC reboots
with quick flash of six lines or so of white text (on black backgound) @ 106 seconds
Needed to use Smart Phone video camera to capture
    Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button ...
    Error Code:0x000000C4
    Parameters:
    0x000...91
    0x000... F
    0xFFFFF800699C5A80
    0x00000000000000000
    0x00000000000000001
Presumably message is intended for frozen PC, hence 'hold down power button'
In this case it flashes and re-boots
Windows 8.1 Image loads quickly, flash and reboots PC, having corrupted boot entry
(thankfully not other entries in Boot Manager situated on Dell System Reserved Partition)
    PC Desktops affected:
    Dimension 5000 - shipped JAN'05
    RAM 4GB
    Intel Pentium 4 640 3.20Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    ATI Radeon HD 6450
    Dimension 5150c/XPS 200 -shipped MAR'05
    RAM 3GB
    Intel Pentium D 820 2.80Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    Intel 82945G WDDM 1.0
Both the above PC's Install and run Windows 8 without a hiccup
    Another 'ancient' machine, but unaffected:
    Precision 490 Desktop - shipped OCT'07
    RAM 4GB
    2 x XEON 5365 3.0Ghz
ATI HD 6450 (Now HD 7750)
All 8.0 & 8.1 clean Installs and Upgrades on this platform had no problems
Hope some of you can throw some light on this. What does WIN 8.1 do in the boot
process that WIN 8 does not?
And if anybody has encounterd this before...
Note to multi booters - keep or reinstall Dell or other System Reserved partition (PRI,Active)
EasyBCD/Windows Boot Manager held on this partition (eg. 350MB)
If it gets corrupted, you can Restore it, rather than Gigabytes of 1st Primary O/S
Also, it will solve a lot of problems, when manipulating/adding/backing up/restoring O/S's
    That's it, happy computing...

Fellow user from St. Louis, Missouri pointed in the right direction. I'm grateful
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Running upgrade assistant (going to Store rejects CPU, but no details)
    Results in:
    X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support LAHF/SAHF.
X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support PrefetchW.
There are at least three Processor requirements that M'soft does not list for WIN 8.1
and it's fairly well documented, if you ask the right question, eg.:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2058683/new-windows-8-1-requirements-strand-some-users-on-windows-8.html
So that's it, exclusion by 'stealth' - at least M'soft told you that processor required NX - Execute Disable Bit
    for Windows 8
For Intel units, look out for 'VT-x. Have a processor on the way, but will Motherboard pass CMPXCHG16b test?
    AND PrefetchW AND LAHF/SAHF
Windows 8 support ends 2015, that means people who bought it will have had 2 years use
WIN 8.1 Upgrade/Update (sic) is free, but costly if it won't run on your machine
So, those many people who decried Windows 8 and stuck to WIN 7, were right after all
Early supporters of WIN 8, have been 'betrayed'
'Minimum Requirement for Processor 1Ghz - don't make me laugh! (Presumably for Phone 8)
M'soft have a 'more info' link on System Requirements page, so why not spell it out...
Otherwise it looks like a PR/Cosmetic exersize

  • Windows Movie Maker  won't let me use QT clips

I recorded some clips for a movie, but Windows Movie Maker won't let me use them! Is there any way to convert my Quick Time clips into clips for Windows Media player? Any Help is appreciated!
    Windows   Windows XP

Windows Movie Maker does not import MOV files as you surmised. Third party software is necessary to convert it for importation to WMM.
One such software(free) that works is: 'RAD Video Tools' from 'Bink and Smacker':
    www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm
The RAD Video Tools software will allow you to convert MOV files to AVI files, which will import into WMM
A FAQ page on converting files w/the RAD s/w is here:
    www.radgametools.com/binkhcon.htm
It may look intimidating at first but all you really need to do is:
    1) Browse to your MOV file, select it, then click 'convert a file' at bottom menu.
    2) Then in the new window that pops up, make sure the output file type is .AVI(the default output file type should be AVI), then click on 'convert' at right menu.
    3) Import the newly created AVI file into WMM
    Hope this is helpful,

windows 8 itunes won't let me add anything to iphone..apple community doesn't list the iphone as a product registered under my apple id, but the phone is listed on my authorized devices.  any ideas? and do i need to get it to show as a registered product?

I have the same problem. I can't sync any apps or music on my iphone. I can't sync any music purchased through itunes on my ipod. I haven't even tried connecting my ipad for fear that it'll mess that up as well. I try to authorize my macbook but I get an error. The weird thing is that I am able to still play all of my purchased music through itunes so it seems that the authorization is at least somehow partially recognized.

IMac with bootcamp and parallel boots into windows 7 but won't boot into Mac OS lion?

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion. Actually that was not the problem, because I had the Mcintosh drive set as my boot drive. The answer was that my Lion Os got somehow corrupted and I had to reinstalll Lion. This was all after I discussed the situation with the Apple Support people.

  • Acrobat XI Pro installed on Windows 7 but won't start

I bought a stand-alone version of Acrobat XI Pro, and installed it on my Windows 7 computer. The first time I try to launch, I get a window asking me to verify the serial number. The DDL for product name doesn't list Acrobat XI Pro and it won't accept my serial number (even though I copy/pasted it from the order page on the adobe.com site). It says that the serial number is valid but that the product isn't on the machine. And yet, when I navigate to program files> Adobe > Acrobat, viola--there it is.
When I double-click the exe file, I get the message, "validating serial number", followed by "serial number is valid, but qualifying product could not be found..."
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times, to no avail. And yes, I've also tried restarting after installing as well. I am, of course, on a deadline and really need this working...
    Help!

I'm pretty sure that I bought the full version, but will check.
The window wasn't asking for what version I upgraded from, but I can try that...and I hadn't installed the old version on this machine (new computer).

  • Windows 7/Bridge won't open files in Photoshop CS6 (cloud)

I recently got the cloud CS6 and installed photoshop cs6, then uninstalled CS5.5. But now, Windows Explorer cannot seem to find Photoshop. If I try to associate the default for any file (.jpeg, .tiff, etc.) with Photoshop, Photoshop does not show up on the list of programs. I must browse to find  Photoshop exe (CS6 64). I click okay, but it continues to open the file in Windows picture viewer and to associate that file type with Windows Picture Viewer.
If I right-click on the file, it does exactly the same thing. I must browse to Photoshop.exe. But it still opens the file in Windows Picture Viewer.
Fix 1 Try Bridge Associations: I opened Bridge CS6->Edit>Preferences and made sure the files were associated with photoshop. But, when I then try to open the files from within Bridge, I get the message Windows cannot find c:Program Files\Adobe\AdobePhotoshop CS4 (64Bit)\Photoshop.exe. (my emphasis)  But I haven't had CS4 installed for years. I did not have this problem when I installed CS5. So now I can't open files from either Windows explorer or Adobe Bridge.
Fix 2 Fix the Registry: So, I opened Regedit and went to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" . Don't know why the install left this at CS5.1. It SHOULD have changed it. EUREKA! Windows now recognizes Photoshop CS6 and I can associate files with it as usual. But I had to manually associate the native .psd file with Photoshop. along with .jpeg, .tiff and other image files.
No Fix for Bridge: But back in Bridge CS6, it's not so rosy. I still get Windows cannot find c:Program Files\Adobe\AdobePhotoshop CS4 (64Bit)\Photoshop.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. If I try File--Open with--Photoshop (default), I get the same message. Clearly, Bridge thinks Photoshop CS4 is the default, and I don't know where to change that association. Preferences does not allow browsing. So Bridge is pretty much useless.
So what should I do about Bridge?
Bridge CS6 still won't open Photoshop CS6. It's still looking for CS4. I thought about reinstalling Bridge, but when I try to download it, the cloud tells me it is is already installed and won't download. I am a little worried about uninstalling it and trying again. Maybe, I'll end up with no Bridge at all. I am beginning to regret my decision to go cloud. Don't know if the install mess is just cloud or noncloud versions as well. Doesn't seem to apply to all programs either.
    Postcript:
I had to go to the registry and manually change CS5.1 to CS6 for InDesign and Illustrator as well, and then manually associate .indd and .ai files with those programs. What a pain this is. Obviously, the install program didn't change the normal associations to CS6. Left them with the CS5, and then when I uninstalled that--as anyone would normally do--it lost the association completely.

Thank you David__B! Your suggestion worked perfectly. All the files are correctly associated in both Explorer and Bridge. And it didn't take all that long, mostly uninstalling. The Adobe App Manager very efficiently installs several different programs with very little fuss.
I am not sure, but I think it may have been an old plug-in to Bridge back in the CS4 era that I didn't even know I had that was causing the Bridge file association problems. Uninstalling CS5 after installing CS6 seems to be causing Win Explorer problems, not just for me.  Based on this experience, I would recommend that anyone with several previous installations of Adobe CS do the following:
Save your plugins and preference files in a back up file.
Uninstall all the old adobe software.
Run the the cleaner you suggested. (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html).
Install CS6 programs from the CCloud or wherever.
Add your plug-ins back in as you need them one at a time to be sure they work.
If you have already installed CS6 and are having file association problems, just uninstall everything and start at step one. You probably won't save time trying to fix the registry and manually associate file types--- yada yada yada.
Steps 1-6 will give you a nice clean install and salvage only  good plug-ins.
    Beth

I have joined many forums in my short computer life. This is by far the best forum that I have been a part of. This is a great tutorial. Step by step to get your PC up and running and a lot more.Seriosly, if you can't follow this tutorial, you shouldn't have a computer. There will times when this won't work and you will have hardware problems. There are some great people here on the forum that can help you find those problems also. I have tried all these recovery options; they work, and I love my Toshiba laptop. That's why I donate my time to help and that's why others here donate their time. Hi!! You should try the recovery feature in W7. Some times it can be accessed through safe mode. On my model it's easier to use the system repair disc. You can find out how to create that here.

You can learn how to use the system repair disc here.

These are basic things you need to know if your going to own a Toshiba laptop.
PS Some day I'm going to convince staff to make a sticky of these things; which would cut their work in half, but then I wouldn't have any thing to do.
Here's what the recovery looks like. You have 5 options to help you. The Dos option can really help if you are familiar with Dos. In Dos you can do a chkdsk---sfc /scannow--- and a whole lot more. Start with the Repair option first and work your way down.
