Windows 8.1 Work Offline

Hello
I don't know if it's me or Windows 8 -8.1, but I can't find the Work Offline Online button.
When selecting a network drive like the home folder to be always available offline, I could in windows 7 choose when to be online and offline.
where do I find it in Window 8 and 8.1 some say it should be in Ease of Access somewhere, but where?
Thank you and have a good day

I'm not sure what IE has to do with my issue?
It would just be an example of something which used GlobalUserOffline.  WLMail is another.
when you Sync a network drive and choose always available Offline.
I'm on W7 but unfortunately do not have a network drive to synch.   However, I'm trying to figure out how to make a Home Group with my Surface 2 and could add my USB hard drive to it.  Would that be good enough?   First I need to
get the share working and then, if you tell me where to look, I could fire up ProcMon and see if GlobalUserOffline is involved with it too.
FWIW it's still there, even with IE11 installed:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
but not in HKLM (though I'm not sure if it ever was there).  Also, another factor in my case may be that I still run  InkSwitch  (from InkLand, for old times' sake <w>).

I frequently get the messages "windows couldn't sign you out" (I am signed out) ,"not connected to in the internet" with prompts to sign in again (I don't) and "you're currently working offline", with a prompt to connect to my own locked wireless. None of these statements are true and I ignore the prompts (although my husband did re-sign on to our router once). I find that if I unplug the phone line and then plug it in again, it works. Strange. Is someone trying to get my password?

  • When I click on Firefox, the page comes up as "work offline" and I have to uncheck this option under "File" before I can get on line. How can I disable this automatic start option "work offline"?

Firefox starts up "Work offline" and I am notified "Having trouble loading page." I am then advised to "uncheck" the "work offline" option and "retry" getting connected to the internet. I would like Firefox 4 to automatically come up as a Browser on line, just as 3.6 did. How can I achieve this goal? Is there a way to disable the automatic "offline" start-up?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Windows 8.1 official offline upgrade package & GPO question related to Metro & UAC

    Hello!
I am testing pre-deployment of Windows 8.1 in our 2008R2 domain. So far only my workstation is upgraded to win8x64 (from win7x64) and I am assessing if all of our LOB aps and servers will work fine with it. A few questions
    1. We use workstations coming with OEM win8 license (all currently running win7 downgrade). I noticed that oficially there is no win8.1 offline upgrade package! Does that mean that Microsoft officially wants people to sing into Windows Store with a Microsoft
account to perform online upgrade with administrative privileges? That's pretty awkward ...
I figured that I could use win 8.1 installer ISO/UFD that I created in past (for home computer actually), but am not sure if that works out with our win8 OEM license keys tied to BIOS/UEFI on each desktop computer.
Was actually expecting an 8.1 Service Pack package that I could publish to WSUS, so it could take care of upgrade on win8 computers, but there is no such thing ... and no official package for 8.1 offline deployment either ... weird ...
Currently I am actually about to upgrade my own/test workstation to 8.1 (from 8.0, using Windows Store online), then sysprep it and create a reference WIM image and see if I can deploy 8.1 thick image (with all updates and company apps installed) this way
via WDS. anybody tested if it works this way? any gotchas?
    2. win8 GPOs
Can somebody enlighten me where in Group Policies I can find a setting to re-assign ALL file/media extensions (e.g. jpg, tiff, png, bmp, mp4, WMV, etc.) back to Desktop applications instead of the horrible Metro UI equivalents?
We are actually about to bypass Metro UI completely on each computer so it boots straight to desktop and all file upon double-click must open an application within Desktop (no Metro UI for end users).
I know how to do this manually one by one via Group Preferences, but am asking if there is some specific GPO ADMX setting that would replace Metro UI apps with Desktop application in any and all file associations.
Personally I see no point in using the clunky Metro UI without a touchscreen.
    3. is UAC enabled required for Windows Store to work?
Seems like it needs at least the Low security setting, so the Windows Store and Metro UI stays operational. no workaround for that for disabled UAC environment?
Just asking, it's not a big deal, people can learn to live with UAC, but am curious if that's by design.
    Thanks for answers!

    Hi,
    1. For upgrading to Win8.1, please refer the following link:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/update-from-windows-8-tutorial  As I know, Win8 activated using KMS, cannot upgrade to Win8.1
    2. No, there is no such GPO settings added into Admin template. You will have to work around this using GPP...
    3. There is no way to bypass UAC and allow Windows Store at one time. UAC is headache since Vista times and we have to live with the Protection :) Believe me, it does good to PC safety.

    thanks for the answers!
Yeah, UAC is a bit of a headache especially with legacy software. When deploying our Win7 domain clients however I got away by simply disabling it to make it easier for all users coming straight from XP environment.
for future win8.1 deployments however, I will set the UAC level to Low and keep it there, so modern apps and winstore stays operational if anybody wanted it or needed it. not  a big deal, plus an added security layer, I agree with that.
As per default win8 file extension associations ... well, that's a bummer, and yeah, the GPP is what I had in mind to work around that manually.
I am running on upgraded win8.1 right now and so far I like it more or less in work environment, after adjustments that is :)
My only problem is related to win 8.1 clean installation and imaging and deployment however, wanted to use Lite Touch via WDS for w8.1, but problem is that I have no image of win8.1 that can activate with OEM licenses tied to BIOS.
Sysprep doesn't work on upgraded 8.1 (from 8.0), so I can't image that with generalization and on other hand the only generalized image I can take is from bare win 8.0 without the 8.1 upgrade. What I mean is that our computer vendor (HP) switched to OEM
win8 licenses tied to UEFI/BIOS (no more case stickers) and that doesn't activate when I try to clean install 8.1 even though it should, but the build ID string in BIOS must be changed ... need to open a case with HP to work it out, I am sure it's still possible
to achieve even without volume licensing.
We use a Basic Infrastructure model so far with retail+OEM keys (no KMS so far but it's in plans if Office deployment plans get approved by CFO). I thought for 8.1 actually it was a good idea to implement Standardized Infrastructure with thick images, as
manual upgrade to win 8.1 from win 8.0 is painful.

  • "Work offline" button went away from taskbar and cannot recovered after performing CSC cache clear

Some Windows 7 Pro users reported DFS folder mapping issue, CSC cache was cleared by following below KB article.
    - On a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based client computer, you can still access offline files even though the file server is removed from the network

After CSC cache clear, I am not able to see "Work offline" button from file explorer taskbar.
I was recommended to look for "always available offline" by right mouse click, but the item is not available for my platform.
    - "Always available offline" option and Offline Files tab disappeared in folder options

So far I tested with 4 of workstation and all of them has no "Work offline" button or "Always available offline" item with right mouse click.

  • Firefox 4 does not start up to my selected home page, and 'work offline' is always checked. I have gone into general tab, start up and ensured that my home page is selected. It is, but problem hasn't changed. I can't do a complicated fix.

Since upgrading Firefox 4, at start up I receive a 'problem loading page' message, which states I have 'Working Offline' checked. (I didn't check it) I go to menu and uncheck it, there are 3 tabs loaded, all the Monzilla welcome pages (congrats you have upgraded etc etc), and NOT my home page. If I hit home icon it takes me to my home page, but this is a pain in the neck. I am not tech savvy so please do NOT suggest a complicated fix. I would prefer to go back to 3.6 if possible, unless there is a simple solution to this problem

I fixed it!!! Following advice from similar posts, I searched the hard drive for "sessionrestore.js" in my Firefox Profiles folder (you'll need to enable viewing of hidden files in Windows Explorer (Tools > Folder Options > View (then select Hidden files option) then Apply to all folders) to do this). I then shut down Firefox, deleted the file and restarted - my home page was correct and it didn't try to open my old session! Some other posts suggested deleting everything called "sessionrestore" in that folder, but I didn't need to.

  • How do you get the browser to work offline. It stays connected even if you click on Work Offline option and there is a check mark beside it.

I play an online game which requires me to open and set up several tabs, click on them offline, and then reload all tabs. With this new update, the work offline button does not work. I click on it 'Work Offline', a checkmark appears before the option. But when I click on the confirm button on the tab, it does not show the usual message that I am offline and I should try again after going online.
I also do a lot of offline reading, which was possible with the previous Firefox versions. I'd load them while I was online, then I could read them when I was offline. Now I can't do this.
I am not happy with this new version of FF. Is there a way to revert to the old Firefox?

Does the Live Http Headers extension confirm that there is network traffic?

I notice that you are likely infected by Conduit software (malware) looking a the browser.newtab.url pref in the System Details list.
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can also check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs to see if anything from Conduit.
*Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program
*Click the Installed column to sort by this heading

  • Why can't I remove the Work Offline feature?

I keep getting an error message when I open a new Firefox window which says: Offline mode, Firefox is currently in offline mode and can't browse the Web. Uncheck "Work Offline" in the File menu, then try again.
I do not have the "Work Offline" feature checked. I can not open my Home Page or any other website. I've never had this problem before & I need to know why Firefox has stopped working. Do I need to reinstall the program or is there something else I can do?

You can create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.
You can right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: network.manage-offline-status<br />
    Value: false
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

The work offline option can be found from Firefox button -> Web developer or from the menubar toolbar -> Work offline (Or at least thats what happens in Windows).
Have you any other reason for being offline; router off, firefox not dialing up or whatever. Or is security software or a firewall blocking firefox, or a network connection, or firefox setting etc set wrongly.

  • Work offline with Photoshop files

At our company, we work a lot with Photoshop (Webdesign Firm). We have a Windows-Server environment, and several iMacs. For backup-purposes, we save all work-files on our server. Our Mac-users connect to the server through SMB, and open the PSD-files from there.
Most of the time, this works great. However, the bigger the Photoshop-files, the slower the Macs get. Also, quite often, saving the files to the server fails, resulting in a corrupt file.
To prevent this, I'm looking for a way to work 'offline' on a PSD file. I would like to select a PSD file from the server, mark it as Offline, so it is saved on my local computer. From there I can edit it. And when it has changed, I would like the file being saved on the server automatically.
Are there any programs that can do this?

  • While updating Firefox it somehow went to "work offline." I cannot get Firefox as my browser unless I go through Explorer first. How do I corrent this? Also I lost my "favorites" when I tried to update.

Now I received the letter that asks me to verify my registration and when I click on the link I get the window stating Firefox is offline, so I can't verify my registration.

Did you try to toggle File > Work Offline to see if that helps.
Press F10 or press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily.
This can be caused by a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • How do I disable "work offline"?

I can no longer access my email through Windows Live Messenger. A window pops up that asks if I want to work online because I am offline. It continues to pop up after being told to go online. After several times it says a problem has been encountered with windows calendar & mail can't be accessed.
