Windows 8 and Apple product compatibility

Good Morning,
The other day, I went to purchase a new Windows-based computer at a non-Apple retail store.  I would purchase a Macbook, but budget limitations.  When I asked what Windows computer would be best for basic usage (managing IPOD, managing IPADs, managing music, and basic computing), I was told that Windows 8 is not compatible with Apple products.  The retail personnel said that he had numerous returns of products because their Iproducts were not syncing (in fact he returned his computer).  I have researched the communities and found that there are numerous solutions and reasons for the problem, but the variation in the answers leads me to think that the core issue has not been addressed.
Question:
1.  Has the compatibility issues between Windows 8 and Iproducts been corrected?  If not, is there any news of the compatibility being addressed in a future release?
2.  What is the exact problem and how can it be corrected if I do purchase a new Windows computer?
Thanks,
Brian

Hi urbwebb,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
iTunes is compatible with Windows 8 and you should have no issue syncing any device to a Windows 8 computer. The Windows System Requirements can be found on the following webpage.

I hope this helps,

Performance? Nope...but there are some issues relating to certain areas of compatibilities...for example; hard drives. On Mac you can mount and read/write FAT32 formated external drives but if the drives are formated as NTFS you'll only be able to read from them not write to them. That can be an issue is your catalog is on the drive. If you format the drives as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) your Windows machine won't see the drives unless you install a 3rd party driver (pretty easy & cheap).
But once you work out the compatibilities LR will run just fine on both Mac and Windows.

  • By subscribing to Creative Cloud(Photoshop and Lightroom), does it come with more than one license, and is it possible to install it on both Windows and Apple(if it comes with two licenses)? Thank you.

By subscribing to Creative Cloud(Photoshop and Lightroom), does it come with more than one license, and if it does, is it possible to install on both Windows and Apple's OX? Thanks.

A Cloud subscription provides for installing working installations on two machines.  You can have mixed operating systems (both Windows and Apple's OX).

  • Can i use same iPod classic with both windows and apple machines

can i download audible books, music and podcasts from windows and apple machines on the same ipod classic?
    thank you    joanlvh

Yes you can. You will have to authorize both machines for your iTunes account, and you will only be able to sync what is on the individual computers to your iPod, but switching between Mac and PC isn't an issue.

  • Cisco Linksys Routers and Apple Products?

I have to seriously ask if there is simply an incompatibility between Cisco Linksys and Apple products?
I have both the WRT600N and the new E3000.  Both are exhibiting the same behavior with my Apple products.
On the wireless connection, I am unable to get a download rate from the Internet, higher then maybe 1.2 - 1.5Mbps.  Most of the time it is far lower.  I am always using the same site for testing.  www.speedtest.net and I always use the same testing server for Dallas, TX.
My ISP is Clear, and when going to www.speedtest.net while using the wired connection on my MacBook Pro, I get a download speed of between 5.5 and 8.2 Mbps.
The upload speed is not changed whether I am using the wired or wireless connection.  I also notice the severe difference in speed when I use the Wi-Fi on my iPhone.  My 3G connection is faster then the Wi-Fi...
So, is there an advanced config for the wireless that makes it behave better with Apple devices?
I have locked the config so far to 802.11g on the 2.4Ghz transceiver and 802.11n on the 5Ghz receiver.  I have also set it not to broadcast the BSSID for either as I live in an apartment complex and I do not want to advertise my network to everyone else.  I use WPA personal on the 802.11g network and WPA2 Personal on the 802.11n network.
The settings on the advanced wireless screen in the router config for my E3000 are the defaults.
I have tried nearly everything I can think of.  I am now beseeching the help of the community at large in the hopes of gleaning some information that I did not already have.  Also I hate the new Cisco Connect app.
On a side note, I was very disappointed to learn that while the WRT600N supported IPv6, the E3000 does not.  As a result it seems my wired connection on the MacBook Pro is not performing as well as it did on the WRT600N.
If anyone from Cisco see's this, PLEASE re-add support for IPv6 to your routers.  It makes no sense to move backwards now.

Which band you are using to connect the wireless computer...?
Is your other computers are working fine...?
If you are using 5GHz on the router to connect your Mac computer then, make sure the wireless adapter does support  5GHz.
    Try the following settings...
Keep the Network Mode as "Mixed".For 2.4GHz...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz..For 5GHz...Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to159 and Standard Channel to 161-5.805GHz.Click on Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now,power cycle the router and check.

  • Windows and Apple together?

I have a Dell desktop with Widows XP. I remember the news was talking about how Windows is no longer carrying support for XP, and I do t have the money to shell out for a Windows 7 or 8 program, so I'm thinking about recycling the computer tower, including the mouse and keyboard. I do have an Acer laptop with Windows 7, however, I want an iMac desktop, just in case my laptop acts goofy again. My laptop's down due to malfunctioned hardware and a busted screen. Is it possible that I can use both Windows and Mac?

Yes, there are multiple methods to run MS Windows on Mac. That ability has been present for the past 8 years. You can use Boot Camp or you can use virtualization applications such a VMWare's Fusion or Parrallels. To learn more about Boot Camp click: https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ and for Fusion click http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/features.html?gclid=CKie37rUn74CFQGTfgodHm cA8A and for Parallels click http://www.parallels.com/landingpage/pd/general/?utm_nooverride=1&src=r&gclid=CL bKvMvUn74CFcdefgodn4YAaA.
Each will require a valid SLA of MS Windows.
There are other virtulaization solutions for OS X however the two mentioned are the industry leaders and provide the best support.

  • Windows Users and Apple Products

Hi. I use both Mac and PC. I like them both. I have two iPhones and for reasons, will be using them with PCs. I think its cool that there is so much Apple technology that works with PCs like the iPhone, Mobile Me, Bonjour, iTunes, etc. In fact, if they ever made iWork and iLife for PC, I'd buy that too.
Question: Does anyone one know of a community, blog or website that focuses on PC/Windows users that like Apple technology? That would be very cool.
    Kindest.

Hmmm. For iPods and iPhones and iTunes, there's specific Windows information and forums at iLounge:
    http://www.ilounge.com/
They go a bit beyond the general troubleshooting advice that gets offered here in the Windows-specific forums at Discussions.

  • Windows 7 and Apple TV compatability???

I am having problems syncing my iTunes with AppleTV. For some reason it will begin the sync and 30 seconds to a minute later will disappear from the device lists. I was told from outside help it may be a sharing problem with windows 7 but have nothing to go on to show that as a problem. Any ideas?

    Problem Solved!!!
I was having the exact symptoms stated at the beginning of this thread. After installing Windows 7 from Vista, Apple TV would show up in the device list and right after entering the verification code it would dissappear and wouldn't show up until I restarted Itunes. I did some research and found that if Apple TV doesn't have a solid connection it basically times out which explains the temporary appereance in the device list followed by it's mysterious dissappearance. At first I thought it might be something with the latest upgrade to Itunes so I started a download of Version 7 to see if that would work. I noticed that my download was only going at around 25k/sec and that was way, way to slow. As it turns out, when upgrading from Vista to 7, Windows 7 erases all of your drivers for things like video cards, network adapters, ect and does a clean install. I took my restore cd from vista and installed the missing driver for my Wireless LAN Adapter. My downloads went up to around 300kb/sec and viola!! Itunes synced up and is working great. It also works through a VPN and with Windows Firewall on as well as a 3rd party service. So if you upgraded to windows 7 take your old restore cd and updated all your network drivers. If you don't have the cd then get them online. This worked for me and I hope if works for everyone else having trouble. If anybody wants detailed instructions just let me know.

  • Defective earbuds and Apple Product Service

I bought an iPod about 10 days ago and there is already crackling in the right earbud. Has this happened to anyone so quickly? I admit-some of the music gets cranked, but not for an extended amount of time & I don't use the Bass Booster from EQ when I do.
The real problem I guess is that I don't have a credit card and the website requires one or it won't process the repair order. Anyone have any luck getting Apple to replace defective earbuds without having a CC?
Dell   Windows XP   30G U2 Special Edition iPod

    Yep. I get this message:
Important: You must return your defective part to
Apple. When you receive your replacement part,
please check your box or envelope for return shipping
instructions. If you do not return the defective part,
we will charge a non-return penalty to your credit card.
I agree to pay USD 19.00 if I do not return my defective part to Apple within 10 business days

  • Transferring memory between a Windows and Apple HD on the MacBookPro

I have 1GB on my MacBookPro; most of it is on the Apple HD with a small amount on the Windows HD. I no longer use the Windows HD and am very low on memory for the Apple HD. How do I transfer the Windows memory to the Apple HD? So far, I have not been able to locate any help on how to do this. Thanks for any assistance!
    bilistap

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I went into Win 7, Computer folder:
has Bootcamp C drive and DVD RW (D:) (Apple's Superdrive)
-no mention of Mac OS X here.
Went to Devices & Printer Section (Control Panel)
    and found my computer (IBG-PC):
left click on it >properties panel:
    =APPLE HDD ATA Device
    "working Properly";
    right click on IBG-PC>browse files>Bootcamp C:
Still NO mention of OS X files.
Do you think that my Bootcamp drivers etc. are corrupt?
Do you think a re-install of bootcamp & win 7 is in order?
    Again, please advise.
    Thanks

  • Intel i5, i7 recall and Apple products

Intel is recalling i5 and i7 systems that use "Sandy Bridge" technology. Does this affect current Apple Intel-based products?

Yes. Same is true. Apple use X58 chipsets in the Mac Pros. Sandy Bridge for Xeon's have not even had a prelim release and wont be available till Q3-Q4. All your Mac's are fine.

  • Windows and apple printing

I have the Hp Deskjet 3050a all in one j611 series, 3052a is what I actually have.  I have it wireless for my desktop, and 2 laptops. My question is how can I set this up so I can use 2 differnet  Ipads with this printer but still be able to use Windows?

Verna, did you look through the steps in the thread that I posted above? To start make sure that the printer and the iOS devices (your iPads) are on the same wireless network. This is the same network connection you access the internet through. I would recommend turning Bluetooth off, as is expressed in my instructions on AirPrint troubleshooting because the common channel between it and AirPrint can cause interference.
Let me know if this points you in the right direction!
