Windows 8 button not woking

The windows 8 button at the bottom of the screen has stopped responding although it gives a little vibration when touched nothing happens wheras it used to return you to the metro home screen whenever it was touched. I assume that the button works because it gives a little buzz so Im guessing that somewhere in the operating system the button function has been turned off. Where do i start to look so that i can re-enable it?

LMS 4.2.1: Save and Reset Button not woking on Syslog Purge Settings page

Did anyone notice that Save button is not woking on Syslog Purge Settings page (Admin > Network > Purge Settings > Syslog Purge Settings) when Email: field is not empty. An Reset button is not working at all.This is the Cisco Prime LMS 4.2.1.
Is it only my LMS server or you all have this bug?

I did a test on a system (LMS 4.2.1, W2k8 R2) and had the same issue, so this really looks like a bug in the GUI;

Running FF3.6.8 on Windows 7, 3 window buttons not in top right hand corner ( minimize, maximize and exit) . how do i get these to appear ?

when FF 3.6.8 loads it loads everything except the the classic window buttons (minimize, maximize and exit ) do not appear in the top right hand corner as the normally would. it seems as though the page has been cut off or the monitor screen is to little for the whole page to load.

It is possible that the screen is too wide or too high.
Open the system menu via Alt+Space and see if you can resize that window.
If that works then close Firefox to save that setting.

Miix2 8" capacitive windows button not working

Just today the capacitive windows button on the bottom of the device stopped doing what it should do.
I can press it, then it vibrates and makes a sound, but it doesn't bring me back to the start screen, nor does it wake the device back up from sleep.
In sleep mode it only vibrates when pressed, it doesn't make a sound. When Windows is active it makes a sound too.
Do I need to reinstall a driver? if so, which one?

well I want to report back that this sadly did not work for me.
The tablet ended up semi-bricking because the drivers got all messed up and the resolution changed to something really low.
As a result, othing loads, none of the metro apps nor the desktop mode lol
so.. off it goes through yet another reinstall.
I'm not looking for blame. just wanted to share this.
it's clear that the Windows key will never work for me.. even though it beeps n vibrates etc. Oh well

N8 menu button not woking correctly

If i press the menu button when the device is locked it works fine and brings up the clock. However when i press the menu button on the home scrren the menu does not appear. How should i go about solving this problem?

did u try turning your phone on and off, did you install any new apps that might be doing something funny to your phone? do you have the latest firmware? if the answer is yes and you have tried all these things then a nokia care visit might be in order

The window buttons (minimize, restore, close) don't operate, i have to minimize/restore from the taskbar for them to restore operation

I explained the behaviour in the headline question. There is a thread about this, but it doesn't have the solution, and has been reported for FF13.
This is FireFox 19, so it's been buggy, this is the 3rd support question I'm posting in the last two days. I've never done this before, but once, so it's not like I'm Mozilla Support fanboy, it's just that there are UI bugs that I have to deal each day, and there weren't these bugs before in earlier versions of FireFox.
There's something wrong going on, I hope you fix this and offer a quick update, because however much love I have for the FireFox it's just not working. I'm not gonna switch browsers soon, but with these UI bugs I'm bound to do it, if it doesn't get fixed.

I don't have ANY addons/extensions installed.
I see that I will have to completely reinstall Firefox from the ground up, but I'll have to reconsider updating policy, maybe not allow automatic updates.
This is not the first time an update has caused FireFox to stop functioning properly. And these UI bugs are really annoying, I mean window buttons not working? Lauch application dialog behaving as if it's in the background? And i didn't even mention that scrolling in the drop down lists isnt working also, cos I see there is no help for these bugs on this support forum, no matter how hard ppl are trying.
Thanks for all the advices though, at least you took your time and tried to help. I think there's no cure but reinstalling completely and I hate when I have to do it, with no error on my part.

Unexpected performance of Firefox in Windows 7, namely minimize/maximize/close buttons not working and unable to move/resize window.

I have been using FF for a while now. My main computer was WinXP-32, though I recently bought a new laptop with Win7-64 installed. This problem was never experienced on my WinXP machine.
Brief description of problem:
After a time of having FF up and running, the minimize/maximize/restore/close buttons in the top-right no longer work as expected and, if not maximised, I cannot move the window around my desktop nor resize the browser window. When clicked, the buttons will
rapidly flash on and off continuously without appearing to perform any noticeable function other than temporarily hogging CPU cycles. I've found that clicking (sometimes double clicking) in the main browser window then mousing over the buttons again seems
to stop them flashing, though does nothing else.
To minimize/maximize/restore/move/close the window(s), I have to right-click on the relevant tab in my taskbar and pick the desired option. Occasionally, however, even this doesn't work and the right-click menu will disappear as soon as I move the mouse
over it after right-clicking. 'Show desktop' is a temporary fix for minimising windows and 'ALT + F4' or 'CTRL + W' for closing windows or tabs. This isn't satisfactory and to move or resize a window, I have to close the window in question (sometimes all other
windows too), reopen it and do what I need to do, though sometimes even this is only a very short fix. If I have to close all the windows, FF will sometimes keep running for a while afterwards, even though no windows are actually open - simply ending the process
via the windows task manager will fix this though is only a work-around, not a fix.
One thing I have noticed is that if I manage to move the browser window (when not maximised), for a short period afterwards I can often resize the window successfully. This is more likely to occur if the browser window is not flush with the edge of my screen
once moved.
I've tried to include as much information as I can - most of which was determined after several minutes/hours of playing around with different scenarios, trying to manually reproduce particular problems or simply through sheer luck of happening to click
in the right place at the right time! I hope there is a reasonably fix for this at some point in the not-too-distant future.
I noticed in some of the threads at another site where people have voiced problems similar to mine, that a link to 'ObjectDock' was discovered in some cases. I do have 'ObjectDock 1.90 Plus' installed on my machine and use it in many ways and so decided
to see if I could find a connection between the two. I have uninstalled, tested, and reinstalled both programs in a multitude of ways, though could find no conclusive correlation between having both bits of software running or installed at the same time and
the problems I am experiencing. In my case, at least, this does not appear to be an answer.
Also, in another thread on this site, someone suggested there might be a link with AVG Anti-Virus Free (I have version 9.0.819) though I've tried uninstalling it and its various add-ons in several different combinations, with no noticeable improvement.

You can also check if the issue occurs in
Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
Besides, uninstall it and re-download
a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

"X" window button does not quit Skype

Hi all!
There seems to be some minor malfunction in the way the window buttons on the upper right corner works: instead of quitting the program, it merely closes the window. This could be interesting, were it not for the fact that there is another button, traditionally used for minimising windows (the "_" button).
Also, it seems that "close" from the menu also fails to quit the program.
I'm sure that this mistake will be fixed shortly. If you need, we can probably help you to find the faulty link (it's most certainly a faulty reference, where "quit" has been erroneously spelled "minimise").

This issue has been discussed several hundred times on this Forum. This feature is by design. The Close button doesn't shut Skype down but only sets Skype in the background. The only way to shut Skype down is by right-click on the taskbar or tray icon and select Quit.

The import window will not expand to access the import button

P20: Hidden reset button? Windows does not launch

My Toshiba Satellite P20 laptop (XP Media Edition )does not Start up
The last actions were :
A memory stick was ejected.
Two explorer windows were closed.
Clicked on the "Start" button.
The "Start" button did not respond and the display froze.
The P20 was not reacting to anything except the movement of the mouse. Ctrl-Alt-Delete did not work.
I tried to switch the P20 off but the on/off button would not respond. The P20 was left alone for 30 minutes to switch itself off.
Since switching off the P20 has refused to start up.
If the On button is pressed the fan starts for a couple of seconds but then the P20 cuts out again.
Windows does not launch.
I checked the inlet fan is clean & working.
I tried switching on and hitting the function buttons in turn e.g F8, F1 to F4 for booting up in safe mode, in case of accidental switch to hibernate or to a separate screen etc.FN light comes on but screen stays dark.
I have taken out the battery and left it to comtemplate its navel = P20 does not start up.
I have had the hard drive checked by PC World and they said it was working properly. There are two different technical opinions on what might be wrong with the P20.
1) Problem with the motherboard.
2) It is stuck in hibernation mode.
I am faced with the prospect of paying over 300 for repairs (estimate supplied by repair company Mastercare).
Is there a form of emergency restart of the P20 just in case the problem is software and not hardware related?
Could not see the 'paperclip' socket on the machine and nothing in the manual.

Hi Noelma,
When you press the power button try pressing the ESC key. This should show you the BIOS load process. If you still get just a black screen then I suspect a problem with your mainboard and the quote your got from Mastercare would be quite reasonable for this to be replaced. :(
Hopefully you will be able to see the BIOS process in which case you should be able to see where the load process stops.

I suppose that you can demand all you want. It would have to be proven that the iOS update broke this particular function but it could also be said that it was just a matter of time that the broken thing manifested itself. Since the phone is out of warranty, it could also be said that it is your risk to update software. I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but we are not Apple. We are users like you and just try and provide support to other users. What you decide to do from here is your decision. I've given you all I know to do.

Red (close) button becomes dark and windows does not close

Sometimes when I click the red (close window) button, it becomes darker and the window does not close, and the app seems inactive. I have to click the title bar (sometimes many times, the lag time to ) and the windows can close, or it can come back with the red button "normal". Very annoying when I have to close many specific windows as it completely breaks the flow of activities.
Mail seems to be a application where it happens often, but it happens also with safari, omnifocus...
Any idea how to fix this?
I use a trakpad/MBA mid 2011 OS X 10.9.4

What app are you using?
Here's something strange I've noticed in Mail a couple times.
For some reason Mail opens several viewer windows all stacked on top of each other.
So while click the close button does close the window, there's an identical on behind it.
So it almost seems like clicking the close button has done nothing but it really has.
Could this be what your seeing?

Brightness buttons not working in Windows 10

Hi I have an HP 255 G3 Notebook running Windows 10 64-bit. The brightness buttons (f2 and f3) are not working for brightness adjustments. Nothing happens when the buttons are pressed. The othe buttons are working fine (for example volume adjustment f7 and f8). Any ideas on how I can make the buttons work? Kind regards Joey

I have an AMD lap top and AMD'S latest graphics driver disables the brightness keys for some reason so i went to device manager (windows button + X ------> Display Adapter-------> click on grapics card------> driver tab------> update driver)after i did that windows searched for driver and updated and right after that the brightness keys worked! Hope this helps!
