Windows 8 compatibility for x300?

Somewhat basic question, but I can't find any info on whether I can run Windows 8.1 on my x300 laptop. The Windows Upgrade Assistant only seems to tell me what existing software can run, but I just need to know if the laptop will even run Win 8. The Win 8 system requirements say:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver
The RAM and disk space are no problem. But I'm not technically savvy enough to understand the rest. My processor and graphics care are:
Core 2 Duo L7100 @1.2 GHz.
Graphics card is Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset
Anyone have some guidance on compatibility? Thanks in advance.

Hi Laryu,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with upgrading Operating System to Windows 8 on
ThinkPad X300.
We regret to inform you that ThinkPad X300 is not supported for Windows 8 OS, however we request you to provide the MTM number of the system which will be on backside of the system, so that we can confirm on that once.
ThinkPad X300 is having sub models in that, so we can confirm it on MTM number.
Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

  • Windows 10 compatibility for my notebook

My notebook came with Windows 8.1 Single Language. It is an OEM version, as I deduce from the product ID. But to my dismay, even though this notebook meets all the requirements, and is eligible for Windows 10 Upgrade offer (as only RT and Enterprise versions are not covered under the upgrade offer) the Windows upgrade icon did not appear on the taskbar. However, I downloaded the windows iso, and tried a clean install. But when I entered my product key (which I retrieved using a third party key finder), it said "windows cannot verify the product key". Can any one please enlighten what the issue is, and  whether there is any chance that HP would come to the assistance of consumers like me?  Thank you.

@ReoMy windows is up to date with automatic installation of updates selected. Both the KBs are present. The windows upgrade assistant tool was saying this version is not supported. But OEM versions are supported, aren't they? When I tried through media collection tool, the Something Happened error occured. When I tried the clean install, my product key cannt be validated. How come? Isn't my notebook eligible for 10 upgrade? What is the problem? Regards Mihi85

I am trying to find a good source for Quicktime for Windows platform compatibility.  I was unable to find anything on the apple support site for legacy versions, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi konee,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.

  • Itunes 7.6 update not passing windows logo testing for compatibility

I have tried to update itunes 3 times. It downloads fine but when it gets to the installation part, I get a warning from windows saying that this software has not passed the windows logo test for compatibility and that if I proceed with the installaton, The system may get impaired. So I stop installation, but eventually I have to update itunes. My ipod gets updated but itunes is not. Lately I've been having problems with my ipod acting buggy. Is this familiar to anyone? Why is this happening and what do I need to do? Thanks!

With that particular message, it might be worth checking through the techniques from the following Microsoft document:

    Hello Krishna,
Thanks for the prompt response. So, after seeing the comments, should I come to a conclusion, as of now Fiori is not supported on Windows Mobile Devices and if my understanding is correct, are you aware of any tentative timeframe when we can expect Windows Mobile device compatibility for Fiori? The reason is we are looking for a customized Fiori application for Windows Mobile Device, and was looking to check Fiori compatibility for the same.
    Regards!

Right now, the SAP Fiori Client appliction doesn't work with SMP. With SMP 3 SP03 which was released last week (Ramp-up customers only, sorry), there is an updated proxy that supports Fiori access from a Kapsel application (the application would need to onboard with SMP and that's not supported with the Fiori Client today).
The next release of the Fiori Client will have support for SMP and more. Next on my todo list is a blog post that talks about SMP and Fiori. You should find all of your questions answered there. Expect it next week.
Yes, we plan on supporting Windows 8.1. Right now, Cordova on Windows 8.1 doesn't support some of the things Fiori Client does. We're working with the Fiori team, the Cordova dev team and Microsoft to work through all of those issues. No definitive timeline, but it is something we want to support

  • Iphone and windows 8 compatibility?

When is apple going to fix the iphone and windows 8 compatibility? All I get is the "waiting for changes to be applied" message. I can't sync my phone.

I have  no issues with Win 8 working fine with the latest (win 8 compatible )
    iTunes

  • When I try to open iTunes,it tries to start but than I get a message stating-iTunes has stopped working , close the program. Does anyone have a problem like this? I'm using windows 7 compatibility turned off.

I'm using a Dell PC with windows 7. Apple Store cannot open completely. An error message states- iTunes has stopped working, close the program.
I have spoken to at least 3 Techs with no solutions found for this problem. Compatibility mode turned off. Newest Download from Apple site.

See HT203206: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Windows Vista Drivers for 1820 and 1616 - Lets have some drivers ple

    <span class="postdetails">Windows Vista Drivers for 820 and 66
I hate to say this about E-MU but the way they are dealing with Vista Drivers is unprofessional. I am a repeat customer of Creative products and was so impressed by my old Platinum eX that I bought a second to run duals for tons of audio processing. That was back in the day. Then I jumpped ship and tried out an M-Audio Firewire 40. That did not last too long beforei was completely unimpressed. So I came back to Creative... Purchased a 820 in the box. So impressed I turned around and purchased a 66 in the box just 8 months later. Both ran smooth as butter... All until i just recently built my new system designed primarily with audio production in mind.
With a setup like this, who needs a mac?
    AMD Athlon X2 x64 Dual Core +6000 3.0 Ghz
    2 Gigs Corsair
Samsung SyncMaster 206BW 2" Wide Screen
    EVGA NVidia 9700s 256 DDR3 Graphics
    SATAs up the yin
and a PCIMIA to PCI Dock
    All under Vista Ultimate OEM
    And Guess what?
    Months into RTM of Vista...
E-MU is caught pushing release dates.
Last month it said they would release beta drivers middle of April...
I waited, patiently I might add.
I waited<waited some more, I try running xp drivers... computer wont even try to install them properly.
My software waits, computer waits, turns into a gameing machine just because my all together 600 dollar investments in Creative are not important enough to leld me the drivers i need to be producti've in what i love.
I need x64 drivers stat. I need them working, I need them installable without a glitch, a hitch, no driver signing problems, no questions, no fuss no muss. I find it ironic that you guys at E-MU are willing to jump right in there and make sure to have drivers compatable for you new products, yet faithful advocats of the most powerful soundcards you have are sitting here dead in the water because you dont find it nessesary to place priority on ready and waiting end users who have purchased long term support buy investing large amounts of moola into hardware from your company.
Come on, its not like the 820 or the 66 are exactly legacy technology. We are talking about Hardware that is only two years old and should be usable for up to 6 years. This is deffinatly a strike against the company and just goes to show where Creative stands.
I have stood by waiting in silence for a very long time.
Now i think my time has come to tell how i feel and i believe there are alot of others out there that feel the same. the only items that do not work soothly are my E-MUs... go figure.
And I have been looking forward to all i can do running both of them side by side.
Oh yes, and that link posted above to the beta news for vista... its a joke. open up your betas, and have a real dev tell us what the hang ups are... At least give us real concreate reasons why it is taking so long.
with that said, when you guys get yoru act together and get me some drivers, I will sit happy as a lark.
    My thoughts for today.
    ~Alpha-Beta ReaKKtor

    Hello Silas,
    sorry for my bad english
I already checked that page. On the first time I was trying to install Vista on a clean hard drive. The installation process finishes without errors but after installation Vista shows me a lot of error messages, mostly about unknown hardware. So I installed all available drivers I have found on Toshiba web site. It not helped me too much, hardware problems still remains. I could not find out what exactly causes probles. Finally I decide to install XP and then upgrade to Vista. Now everything seems to be ok. :D
There was some hardware problems but much easier to resolve. It seems to me that Toshiba did not provide all the drivers, for example StarForce Protection drivers. Vista did not recognized this hardware on the first time.
    Now it works!

  • Windows 8 Compatibility issue -

I just ran the MS Windows 8 compatibility test on my Windows 7 system... a number of programs were flagged, including iTunes.. however, the action to be taken seems vague:  a yellow caution symbol was displayed with the words, "remove authorized PCs"
What does that mean?  Do I need to deauthorize my PC before doing the upgrade?  Do I need to uninstall iTunes? (I am running v.11) And then reinstall it after upgrading to Windows 8?

Ok, no replies.. so here is what I found out....
It seems that you can have up to 5 computers authorized to use iTunes.  If one of the computers that is being upgraded to Windows 8 is one of those 5, you may need to deauthorize iTunes before the install.  Why? Because apparently the new install treats the system as a new system, so in order to keep your authorized systems under 5, it may be necessary to deauthorize before the install, then reauthorize again after the install.
Of course, if this is the only computer authorized, then no biggie.. you will end up with two authorized systems and everything should still hum along. The only concern is if you already have 5 computers authorized, then you need to use this process to ensure that iTunes will still work after the install.
Odd that iTunes would be so picky... Adobe is infamous about software activations - insisting on the product being deactivated before uninstalling and reinstalling... but no concern here about upgrading to Windows 8
Hope that helps some others that had a question about this item.
Oh, and btw.. make sure your notebook manufacturer has drivers for Windows 8 - Microsoft had stated that the upgrade from Windows 7 to 8 would be smooth and hiccup free.. but no mention of drivers. Seems there could be issues with drivers. I have a relatively new ASUS G53SW, and apparently ASUS does not have any drivers for Windows 8!

  • Satellite T230 and Windows 8 compatibility

    Hello,
My Satellite T230 (PST4AE) is not listed on Windows 8 compatibility's page. Is it not compatible at all?

The Win 8 matrix lists only the notebook models which were delivered and preinstalled with Win 7 and will get Win 8 driver via Win 8 Update Assistant.
But the list does not mean that not listed notebooks are not Win 8 capable
Here is a official information from Microsoft about Windows 8 system requirements
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/system-requirements
If you want to run Windows 8 on your PC, here's what it takes:
Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with support for PAE, NX, and SSE2 (more info)
    RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

  • CS4 and Windows 8 compatibility

Has anyone successfully installed CS4 on Windows 8? I am currently using Windows XP and received a pop up saying Microsoft are no longer releasing updates for XP after August and I am entitled to a free download of Windows 8. I am trying to decide whether to do this but risk losing my use of CS4 which I really don't want to do. Any advice much appreciated as not sure whether to just continue with XP. Thanks in advance.

If you search Google using the terms "CS4 and Windows 8 compatibility" you can probably find various results from both Adobe and Microsoft that should give you some idea of how much of a gamble you might face in changing your OS.
In my own experience, a change in OS has yet to be a positive experience... while most people loved XP in its day, I suffered years of poor performance with it as an upgrade from the moment it was installed and regretted doing it.  Maybe you've had better experience and aren't as shy of it as I am.

  • Windows 8 upgrade for z560??

When is the upgrade for z560 laptops expected?

I don't think we're going to get any, although I keep checking back to the drivers page and here to see if there are any changes.  The compatibility page doesn't list the z560 as being compatible, but it doesn't list it as being not compatible either.
I clean installed Windows 8 Pro from the retail box I purchased and added the Windows Media Center free upgrade to it.  I've found that as long as we install a few drivers on our own the z560 is absolutely compatible.
I needed the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers, the Nvidia drivers (which include their HDMI HD Audio driver) since I have the model with the Nvidia graphics, the Synapic touchpad driver, the Lenovo Power Management software for Windows 8 (with some files patched over from the Windows 7 version), and the Lenovo YouCam software from Windows 7 (which includes a couple of webcam related drivers that eliminate an unknown device from the Windows 8 Device Manager.)
I got all that stuff from the separate manufacturers websites.  The only thing we miss is One Key Theatre.  Don't bother installing that or any of the other software or drivers from the Lenovo download page as they either don't work if they install, don't install,. or destabalize the system once installed.
    http://www.alltechtalk.net/forum/thread-fix-lenovo-ideapad-s-touch-sensitive-buttons-on-windows-8
That link is to the instructions regarding the Lenovo Power Management software.  It'll get most of our keyboard buttons working.  The high speed dust blowout fan works with the keyboard button but not from the icon in the new software.  But I found that the software is doing the job of managing the battery just fine.
When you start the Lenovo/Cyberlink YouCam software it'll offer an update to 3.1 and also an offer to upgrade to a newer version.  The Lenovo update is all we need.  It's the free one.
I tried several conexant audio updates.  None work so don't bother.  Microsoft's driver runs the audio fine and if you really want something like the dolby headphone or bass boost stuff their driver has similar sounding features built in to their audio panel speaker properties.  Now, the Windows 7 Lenovo/Conexant driver will install but the on by default dolby enhancements make Windows report that its interfering with things and offers to turn them off.   So it's really not compatible.  None of the newer Conexant Lenovo Windows 8 offerings for their other laptops even with the same chipset are compatible even if one forces a manual install.  They'll crash Windows so don't do it!
The Synaptic driver is actually terrific.  It lets you take advantage of the Windows 8 swiping stuff.  I changed the 2 finger verticle scroll back to the right edge scroll, and bottom edge for horizontal.  That just feels more comfortable on the z560 touchpad.  The Lenovo Windows 8 driver is older than the new and improved one on the Synapic website, which works better.
Okay, the One Key Recovery is also a non-starter unless you set it up as described on another post at the alltechtalk forum.  But i didn't bother because Windows 8 now comes with its own recovery stuff built in.
If you want to upgrade you should uninstall all the stuff listed on Lenovo's Windows 8 Ideapad compatibility page.  But really, just tell the Windows installer to clean install.  You'll be happier.
