Windows 8 crashes after installing Apple drivers

Due to an electrical storm, I had a 2 partition drive fail. The Mac partition was corrupted, the Windows 8 (via BootCamp) install was fine. However, I couldn't reformat (or even mount) OS X so decided to reinstall both OSes on their own physical drives within a Mac Pro. Mountain Lion restored from a Time Machine backup and I got Windows 8 up and running, via BootCamp, on the other drive. All seemed well until I went to install the Apple drivers/software where upon my restart from the install I got the BSoD. No matter what I do or how many times I restart, it continuously crashes. Curiously, two randomly spouted errors are offered...
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
and
IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The problem seems to be with the Apple drivers. I used the updated BootCamp 5 software. However, I also used BootCamp 4 software after restoring Windows 8 to a clean install, that set of drivers doing exactly what BC5 did. I've stripped my settings back down to initial install, even reformatted the physical drive, re-partitioned via BootCamp and reinstalled Win8. While working correctly, I set up my account, redownloaded apps I installed from Windows Store, restarted to finish those installations; still, the only issue seems to be when I install the Apple offered drivers. I would just not use them but with many of my peripherals being Apple products it's more of a hassle than I care to deal with. And, I had it all working before with no problem. What's wrong this time? Below I list some concerns...
Is there any difference between installing a BootCamp/Win8 partition on a startup drive or another internal harddrive? Once, BootCamp had to be installed on the startup disk.
Is there any way to install just certain drivers from Apple's software pack since best I can find from MS's site is that the errors seem to be one or two driver incompatibilities?
I've installed Win8 updates prior to and after running Apple's software... would this affect the installation of that software either way or system integrity in Win8?
The above are the only two error messages I've seen. Why do they alternate? Is there more than one issue needing to be addressed?
It all worked before, could it be the software offered now? I've tried BootCamp 4, 5; should I try a lower numbered driver set?

My apologies for not following up on this topic.
Yes, I found a fix for my issue. It involved the Time Machine backup drive I had installed.
I reinstalled OS X and Win 8 onto the same drive and experimented pulling drives out of the Mac Pro. However, I never removed the Time Machine drive alone, only took the three extra drives out at the same time so I did not which one was causing the crash. It didn't seem to matter which bay it was in, it was the backup itself that Win 8 didn't work with. My Time Machine backup goes back for over a year so I wasn't interested in starting all over so I removed it from the Mac and installed it in an external enclosure. HOWEVER, if this drive is connected and on while booting up in Win 8 the OS will still crash. Within the Mac, it was impossible to keep the backup from mounting. In the external, I have to remember to disconnect when I switch OSes. Not a fix really, but a solid workaround.
If someone wanted to set up a new backup perhaps that would fix the issue completely. Perhaps it's because OS X/startup disk was restored from the backup and the backup have the same data, maybe it's an issue with data on the backup disk and Windows 8. I don't know. But several times, while switching the OSes I have forgotten to disconnect the now external backup and Win 8 crashes; if I remember to disconnect no issues at all.

It is never really advantageous to rush installing a new operating system upgrade or even certain updates in some cases for these very reasons of incompatibility. It is best to just watch and wait once things are officially released and be aware of any issues overall or specific to your given workflow to avoid such issues. Generally early adoption has just about as many drawbacks as it does positives, its best to be patient and wait for any "real world" issue to be resolved by all parties after a big release. With Mavericks being FREE I am sure many are not waiting however. ;-)

  • Help - Windows crashes after installing upgrade today....

    Hi,
System:                Windows XP, 2002, Service Pack 3 (not sure how to tell if 32 bit or 64 bit?  My graphics are 64-bit, I think)
    Computer:          Dell Inspiron 530
Processor:           Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
Graphics card:   ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Browser 1:          Firefox 3.6.14 (upgraded today)
    Browser 2:          IE 8.0.6001.18702
    Flash:                    10.2.152.32 (installed today)
    Antivirus:            Norton Internet Security 17.8.0.5
Firewall:               Motorola SBG900 (mentioning only because it has caused me other issues in the past)
Tried upgrading Firefox and Flash (for Firefox) today as requested. Everything installed fine. Tried to watch a video clip on CNN.com and got the blue screen and crash.
I uninstalled both, and reinstalled. Crashed again.
I then tried uninstalling both again, and downloaded the Flash for IE, to see if it was a Flash issue or a Firefox issue. This version crashed too - blue screen with error message.
A friend thought it might be a RAM issue, and asked me to clean up my msconfig - which I did. No fix.
I then went to the Display manager, found the graphics card, and looked for updated to the device driver. Alas, the system thinks I have latest and greatest.
That’s about the extent of my computer knowledge. I don’t know how to disable my Norton, and frankly, not sure it’s a great idea, as it has my software firewall in it….  Not sure how/why/if that would even help?
Here’s the bottom part of the error message I got one of the time I got the blue screen crash (in case it helps)….
    ***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xE0000001, 0xBA490925, 0xA880D820, 0x00000000)

Simplest fix for me would be if there was a way to get the old version of Flash back… but there doesn’t seem to be an older version archived that I can find….
Can someone help/offer solutions that a non-computer geek might be able to follow (and not mess up other stuff on the computer)?  Thanks!  :-)  It's been 4 hours and counting spent on this so far....  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Much thanks!

    Liz,
    1) Under START, PROGRAMS, DELL ACCESSORIES... find Dell Service code... click it.  Write down the service tag (looks like "5DF78SnS")
    2) Go to "Dell Drivers & Downloads"
    3) Figure where to put the service code... and click okay.
What you will see is a list of drivers for YOUR specific computer- these are the lastest drivers and some MAY already be installed.
    At the very least
    1) Update the BIOS
    2) Update the Video Drivers.
They all come with very clearly written instructions.
Then consider repairing your browser again.
You might then want to update the "Dell Recommends...".  Let it scan your computer.
    Turn off your computer.
    Turn on a hot bath.
    Throw the computer in it.
Use postcards to communicate with your friends and CDs to listen to music.

  • My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S.  If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply.  If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

Turning off the Protected Mode at Startup setting fixed the problem for me. Switched off all protected mode settings in Preferences exited Adobe Reader XI then restarted. Now I can successfully open files without the program crashing. I run the same versions of Adobe Reader and Norton Internet Security on Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems and the problem only occurred on Windows 7.

My macbook pro crashed after installing maverick. I lost all my photos however the iPhone iPhoto app still has these photos so how can i access the package contents to recover these photos?

We'll need to know more to beable to help. Do you want to try to restore your photos from your iPhone to your Mac, or try to recover the photos from the old iPhoto Library on your Mac?
What is the situation of your Mac now? In hat way did it crash? A hardware problem with the drive? Does the system not start properly? Does iPhoto not launch? Do you still have the iPhoto Library on your mac or a backup, so we could try to rescue the photos there?
What versions of iPhoto are on your iPhone and your Mac?
however the iPhone iPhoto app still has these photos so how can i access the package contents to recover these photos?
On the iPhone you cannot access the "package contents" - IOS hides the file system from the users. To restore photos from your phone share all iPhoto photos to your Camera Roll, that are not already in the Camera Roll,  and then connect the iPhone via USB and import the Camera Roll to iPhoto or Image Capture. Or use any of the other sharing methods described on thos manual page: see:  Ways to share photos http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnk7d8f763e
To retrieve photos from a corruptrd iPhoto Library on your Mac we need to know the version number and more about the "crash" you experienced, the state of your mac, the system, the data. Please post back with more details.

  • Slow start-up windows XP after install audigy driv

    Hey All,
A few months ago I bought the Audigy 2 ZS, after installing the drivers my PC wouldnt start up as quickly as it has been doing.
On another forum somebody suggested that it could be an IRQ thing so I swapped my card to another pci slot. I powered my PC and XP started up smoothly again but asked to install the drivers again, so I did (otherwise I had no sound).
After installing the drivers only (so no extra sound software such as mixers etc..) my PC started up slowly again.
Does anyone got the same problems or know how to fix this?
    Thx in advance

Your partitions are a bit messed up. Windows XP should be on sda1(NTFS) while your boot partition should be on sda2(EXT2), Arch Linux on sda4(EXT4) and swap on sda3(SWAP). The only partition marked as bootable should be sda2, GRUB is not installed on a partition, but rather the MBR(The first 512 bytes of the HDD), so simply select sda when the installer asks you about GRUB.
As well, sda2, sda3, and sda4 should all be Logical partition types, while sda1 should be a primary one.
My fs table actually is what I showed before. I don't think partitions are confused in this order, sda1 locates NTFS boot system(Windows XP), and it has counterpart C:\ of Windows. and sda2 is All Extented (which takes possession of all other logical partitions, like sda5, sda6, sda7). and indeed there are no sda3 and sda4 in my HD. sda5 is also NTFS of counterpart D:\ in Windows.
sda6 and sda7 is for Linux, sda6 is ext4, and sda7 is Swap. so that's it:
    sda1             boot     7           HPFS/NTFS               ------------>    C:\  (where windows xp is installed)
    sda2                         f            W95 Extended(LBA)
        sda5                     7           HPFS/NTFS               ------------->    D:\  (work partition in windows xp)
        sda6                     83         Linux
        sda7                     83         Linux
So I think table is fine. But I use another approach to assess where the problem is.
I use ntfs-3g try mounting NTFS partitions in my Arch.
the result is sda1 cannot  be mounted, whereas sda5 can be mounted correctly.

Nothing. It's nothing to do with PSE; this is a limitation of Photos, as is the loss of being able to use an external editor without exporting copies of your images.
