Windows 8 Embedded Standard Licence

Hello,
I am part of Microsoft Partner Network and my question is about Windows 8 Embedded Standard Licence.
I am confused by statement that Windows embedded cannot be used as general purpose computing device. Also it's not for internal use.
I though i can use Windows 8 Embedded as a base operation system for remote client for our thin PCs.  Perhaps i just don't fully understand what "general purpose computing device" exactly means, but is Thin PC a general purpose computing device
Thank you very much for your answer.

This forum is for POSReady. For future reference, the WES8 forum is over here:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?forum=wes8.
Windows Embedded is used by OEMs building Embedded devices like Digital displays, ATM machines, industrial computers, etc. Basically a single or limited functional device. Since Windows Embedded 8 Standard/Industry are based on Windows 8, Microsoft
doesn't want customers using the embedded products to compete against the desktop products sold by DELL, HP, Samsung, Sony, etc. If you mean by Thin PC as Thin Client, the idea of a thin client is that it has limited storage and memory doesn't allow for end
users to install whatever they want. The idea is to have a few local applications, but connect to backend office services.
I suggest you contact a local Microsoft Distributor for more information.

Create the screen saver in Windows 7 first and then put the file in the distribution share to be included in the image. There are tools that can help create a custom screen saver:

Recently we procured windows 7 embedded standard edition from our vendor.
There is no media kit along with that. Kindly help us to download media kit

What do you mean by Media Kit? Do you mean Media Player? The vendor should add this.

  • Hyper-V windows 7 embedded standard VHD install integration services not working

My existing VM (windows 7 embedded standard) is not letting me install integration services. Has anyone been able to do it, is there somewhere I can find this "integration disk" that will install this on this windows 7 edition? The current integration
disk does not support windows embedded standard.

You are correct, there is no support for Embedded.
The drivers would need to be incorporated into the image, just like any other drivers.  However, you cannot get driver installation files like you can with 3rd parties.
In this case, the drivers are essentially becoming part of the kernel itself.
    I don't know about embedded 8 or 8.1 either.
The better place to ask would be in the Windows Embedded forums on MSDN.

  • LabVIEW Runtime engine on Windows Embedded Standard 7 P 32/64 bit?

Did anyone ever try to install and run LabVIEW Runtime engine (2011 or later) on Windows Embedded Standard 7 P 32/64 bit?
I am trying to figure out if this will work, for example on a Beckhoff CX5120 embedded PC. I will need to have some simple TCP/IP communication in order to exchange information with another PC, but nothing else, i.e. drivers, etc...
I hope someone tried to do this already. I just don't have the right hardware right now to check it out.
    Solved!

As NI sells touch panels with WES7 installed here: http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/210551 it's pretty safe to assume they've used the RTE on WES7.
    But yes, it's been done.

  • LabView executable on Windows Embedded Standard 7

I will like to know if LabView executable with IMAQdx Vision code can be  run on Windows Embedded Standard 7. Thanks.

    Greetings,
Most certainly, you should be able to use LabVIEW Executables on Windows Embedded Standard 7 that contain Vision VIs. The cRIO 9082 is a great example, for it uses WES7 and brings in GigE Camera support.

Is there support for SHA-2 256 in Windows Embedded Standard 7 SP1 OS?

    According to this blog:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/pki/archive/2010/09/30/sha2-and-windows.aspx Windows 7 (also WES7) supports SHA2.

  • Windows Embedded Standard (WSE) 2009

I guess Windows XPe (XP Embedded) no longer exist.  Has anyone tried to run a LabVIEW application on Windows Embedded Standard?  Any reason to think that LabVIEW won't work?  I would like to hear from a developer who has tried WSE out with LabVIEW.

It is NI's official policy that they do not support WSE and LabVIEW.  You are on your own if you choose to go down this path.  I am sure there are limits but haven't found them yet.
It is NI policy not to support anything that they can not control 100%. Since they can not control which OS components you may add or not add in your embedded system. NI have chosen to not support the WSE "officially". The main reason is that it is very hard to give support to such systems on general basis.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

Hello. I have to buy a TPC 2206.
Should I buy with Windows XP Embedded (XPe) OR Windows Embedded Standard 7??
I have LabVIEW 2012 (DSC y/o touch pannel module) but I'll probably update to LabVIEW 2014 in the future. (II have to be able to program the computer with both options).

  • Failed to install audio driver for Kinect, Windows Embedded Standard 7

I am working on a project that uses the Kinect for Windows. However, the OS is Windows Embedded Standard 7 and it runs on Intel Atom N2600 processor (DE2i-150 board). The Kinect works well on Windows 7. When I migrated the code to WES7, the Kinect does not
work anymore. All Kinect driver were installed successfully, except for Audio. The board can 'see' the Kinect since it showed the little USB icon on the status bar. However, when I ran some test code from Developer Toolkit, they all said "Kinect is not
ready" status. I checked the power and reinstalled the SDK/drivers several time but had the same message.
Does anyone have any suggestion how to solve this problem?

I would first try a base install of Windows 7 on the same hardware. This will eliminate if it is a WES configurations of a missing component or the device hardware itself. Given that you are running a low powered system, this doesn't meet the minimum hardware
    requirements, let alone the recommended:
    Intel® Atom™ Processor N2600
    (1M Cache, 1.6 GHz)

  • Windows Embedded Standard File system cache

Hey I am new in Windows Embedded.
I am using Windows Embedded Standard XP, and looking for information regarding cache and file system in OS.
File Systems are designed to reduce the disk hits. File write operations does not write to disk immediately until we use the flush API. Flush API makes the system slower though. Os on the other hand keeps flushing the data in optimized way.
    We need to know
1- how frequent windows embedded standard is flushing the data. ?
2- How much data it keeps in file system cache(Ram) before flushing ?
3- Can we change things mentioned in above two points by using code?

Ok Thank you very much .
How much data it keeps in file system cache(Ram) before flushing ? How much cache memory i have on ram
    How  we know this ?

  • MDT 2013 and Windows Embedded Standard 7

    Hi Guys
I'm currently working on a Windows Embedded 7 Standard build and deployment.
Looking at the support Matrix and the video from Johan, it looks like:
MDT 2010 has support with the hacked LTIAPPLY script
MDT 2012 onwards support Embedded POS Ready - no mention of Standard.
    Can you clarify:
If WES7 is supported in MDT 2013.
Is there a set of specific task sequence steps I should use for deploying WES7? I will still need to run the standard pre-install to clean disk, gather vars etc.
I have written some post build scripts, which configures the FBWF state and installs final apps, which i'll run at the State Restore phase.
    Many Thanks
    Ian Fraser

Can you share your experience with MDT 2013 and Windows 7 Embedded? Are you deploying the SCCM client to the clients? Any scripts you can post would be helpful.

  • Building a Windows Embedded Standard 7 Image

I'm trying to build a custom Windows Embedded Standard 7 image for a project that requires the machines using the image to share a network HP LaserJet 400 M451nw printer.  The image we had been using apparently does not include all of the packages HP requires, because the install DVD will not work and when Windows tries to install the driver, it fails.  So far, the only bits of diagnostic info I know to share are:
When the HP installer runs, it tries to install a .NET package (3.5SP1, I think) and exits by telling me that I "must use the 'Turn Windows features on or off' in the control panel to install or configure Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 SP1".  When I look at that function, the dialog is COMPLETELY blank on our embedded image.  What packages must I installed to get this to work?
Without the running HP installer, I got the printer working on a USB port.  Then I configured the printer's IP address for our network and tried to have Windows install it as a network printer.  Windows found the printer almost immediately, but when it tried to install a driver, it just said that the driver install failed.  Again, I don't know what package I need to include in the WES7 image in order to get this to work.
I'm seriously hoping that either an HP expert or someone who has already solved this will see my plea for help and provide an answer!
