[Windows 8] F-keys overrided by Fn on Satellite L850-1JG

Hello,
I recently bought a Satellite L850-1JG laptop which works with Windows 8.
When pressing the F-keys (F1, F2,..., F12), it's the Fn behavior which is triggered by default(like adjusting brightness or switching Wifi).
So, to get the F-keys "normal" behavior such refresh page with F5, I have to press the Fn key + F5.
Is this swap behavior a Windows 8 feature? Is there a way to put back the normal way to use these keys like in Windows 7 and others?
Thanks for your answers.

Hello,
I solved the issue by accessing the BIOS/UEFI and then there is an option to swith the F-keys behavior.
Thank you for everyhting.

  • HP DV6 Laptop - How do I find my Windows 7 Product Key

    Model:  DV6-1149WM
    Product:  LW264UAR#ABA
I purchased a new hard drive for my laptop.  I want to install a clean version of Windows 7 on this hard drive.  The Windows product key sticker is badly worn on the bottom of my laptop and I can only make out a little more than half the characters on it.  Where can I find the Windows 7 product key?  I tried to use an app to find it but it only finds a generic key since it was an OEM install.  Can you please tell me how I can find my product key?  I want to do a clean install of Windows 7 on my new hard drive so I don't want to install it from any kind of recovery disk.  Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How to install Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key?

I have purchased Upgrade pack from Windows 7 to Windows 8. I have also Updated the OS to windows 8.1 through Store. How to install Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key?

The download link for the Windows 8.1 installer at the Upgrade with Product Key Only does not accept a Windows 8.0 product key. I ended up using the trick suggested by Andre Ziegler in this thread to obtain the 8.1 download independent of the Windows
Store, but I haven't yet checked if the 8.0 key works from 8.1 Setup.
I do IT for a living but I have plenty of family members that bring their notebook PCs to me and ask me to do the heavy lifting, and I'd rather not re-download the same 3.6 GB every single time someone tells me to fix their PC. I also want to be able to
re-install 8.1 from the source media in case of a catastrophic hard disk failure and I have to replace the disk.
As an aside, tools that retrieve product keys for installed products end up retrieving the 8.0 product key from an 8.1 install that was upgraded via the Store.  It kind-of makes sense that an 8.0 key could work to install 8.1 because 8.1 is supposed
to be a free upgrade for licensed 8.0 users, but this doesn't seem to work until after 8.1 is successfully installed via some trickery and the user supplies the 8.0 key to activate it.

  • Windows 7 Product key Not working, Cannot download iso

First sorry if this post to to simar to the other windows 7 product key one but the soultion dosnt work anymore.
My hdd in my y580 started to give me the tick of death so i brought a new ssd to replace it and backed up my files to my external. i was going to make a bootable copy of windows 7 on my usb so i could install it on the ssd and this is were i ran into issue.
All offical download links now lead to a dead page that redirects you to a new windows download form where you are required to put in your product key before you can download. i put in my product key from the sticker on the back but it just returns with this "http://prntscr.com/62eyxp"
So even if i am able to get a copy of windows 7 will my cdkey work at all? and how can i get a copy when it keep giving me the message.
    Anyhelp would be welcome.

First I am not a Microsoft employee, but I am a Microsoft MVP. As such I have to stick with the position Microsoft takes on downloading ISO files. They have given some users a way to redownload the ISO file. The other ways that are posted on the web Microsoft says that the official resellers (Digital River) downloads are for those who purchase the Windows OS thru the reseller's website. Anyone else that wants to download from there is not authorized to have such a downloaded file. All other sources of those file (other than the Microsoft site or the resellers site) are not legitimate sources of the file and can be infected.
This leaves users who purchased a computer from an OEM with no viable download source.  While my personal opinions may differ from the official Microsoft position, I cannot really express them. But you may want to check out the DMCA Title III. Of course this only matters if you are in the US. If you are not, I have no idea what laws would apply.
While the downloaded ISO will not work with the key that you have from an OEM, if it is a real ISO from Microsoft and has not been altered in anyway and is a complete download, you can use it for repairs. Which is what almost everyone I deal with needs it for, repairs not reinstall. To be honest I hate telling someone to wipe their harddrive and reinstall windows.
I do believe that ALL OEM's are now charging for a copy of the factory image that is originally on the harddrive. But they cannot be used for repair in the manner that the Windows install disc can be.
What you do with all this information is entirely up to you. I hope it helps.

  • Upgrade path to 8.1 pro using windows 8 pro keys

    Hi,
I have a windows 8 pro upgrade license which I bought when windows 8 was launched and have been unable to use it on my existing computer. I would like to use this license on a new computer and want to know what is the correct version of Windows Complete
    Install to buy.
One option for me is to buy Windows 7 Home complete install then upgrade to Windows 8 Pro and eventually to Windows 8.1 Pro through the windows store. This is too tedious instead can I buy Windows 8.1 Home and use the Windows 8 Pro keys to upgrade it
    to Windows 8.1 Pro directly?
Please advise on the correct version of complete Windows to be bought so I can take advantage of my Windows 8 Pro license.
    Best regards,
    Jai

    Hi Jai
I suggest you to follow upgrade path using your Window 8 pro upgrade license since you already bought it
And I suggest also check whether this PC ready to upgrade to Windows 8.1, you can check using upgrade assistance to check if there is compatibility SW or device before you upgrade
There is 2 method for upgrade to Windows 8.1
    1. buy upgrade key
    2. buy DVD
Regarding upgrade key or buy the DVD, I suggest contact retailer or Microsoft sales

  • Possible to obtain Windows 7 product key from Lenovo for downgrade from Windows 8.1?

Hi all. I have searched all over these forums and haven't found the answer to my question, so I figured I'd just ask it.
I purchased an Ideapad Y580 with Windows 8 pre-installed.  Hated it from the get go. Upgraded to Windows 8.1, and still don't like.  But, now, I am having a ton of bug-y issues. Although I've managed to fix most, they have become increasingly annoying. The latest is that upon upgrading to Windows 8.1, my USB ports stopped working...except they sometimes work, some of the time, but never all of the time. Drivers are up to date, and every diagnostic test I have run passes. Surfing the net, it sounds like this is a common issue with windows 8.1.
I was speaking with my firm's IT company and was told that they have had the exact same issues with numerous clients. (As an aside, they universally place lenovo products in their client's hands). It has gotten so bad that they do not provide windows 8/8.1 on any of the machines they prepare for their clients.
Last week, I was speaking to the IT company's local rep who was performing some server maintenance for us, and he indicated that if you purchased a laptop pre-installed with windows 8 and didn't like it, you could obtain a windows 7 product key from the manufacturer and downgrade to windows 7. Is that accurate? if so, how do I make that happen?

Too be honest I suggest you do not downgrade unless you have to use software in your company that does not work on Windows 7.
Get started reading Windows 8 guides, and you will notice Windows 8 is a lot better after you have read all the guides:

If you reinstall using the manufacturer's Recovery System, you will not need to enter the Key - it comes with its own Key built-in.

  • Windows 7 registration Key

Over the weekedn I bought myself a HP Pavilion dv6-3123tx laptop. however, the laptop did not come with any installatio CDs or anything. How do I get the Windows 7 registartion key in case I have any troubles with the system?

    Hello Firecrystals,
Your Windows 7 serial is on the bottom of the laptop.  If you ever need to re-install, HP has a seperate partion dedicated for re-installs.  You can also use any windows disc and download the drivers yourself (of course your windows flavor depends - you have windows 7 of course, but you could have ultimate, pro, 32 or 64 bit, etc - your sticker will also tell you what flavor you have).  Just ask any IT person to borrow you a copy of WIndows 7 and enter the serial located at the bottom of your laptop (if you ever need to re-install).  You can also use HPs recovery partition or finally you can order a recovery disc from HP.

  • Same Windows XP product key on two machines

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the Windows XP product key.
I have two Thinkpad T23. The first one came with a product recovery CD (Windows XP Pro) and it works without problem. However, the second T23 I just bought didn't come with preinstalled operationg system. After checking on Lenovo website with the machine type number it shows me that my second T23 is a model that equipped with Windows XP Pro. So I used the productrecovery CD from my first T23 to restore the second T23 to factory setting.
Now that both T23 are running Windows XP Pro I check the WIndows XP product key and the product keys from both T23 are exactly the same! Is this normal? Would this harm the Windows Xp license on my first T23?
I did this because I thought that each Thinkpad with OEM license has the Windows product key embedded somewhere in the hardware and that the product recovery CD would take such information from the system. But now that both machines have the same product keys I'm confused.
    Anyone knows about this issue?
    Thanks  in advance.

Wow, this is a very quick reply!!
So the same product keys shouldn't harm my machines then? For example, when I try to install some upgrades from Microsoft website and there is this little software (which I forgot its name) that will check if my Windows is a genuine copy or not and I was just thinking that having same product keys could somehow break this "genuine copy" thing...
I just want to make sure that this is not a problem or illigal to do. Nobody wants to have a problem with the Microsoft I guess

  • Miix 2 8: install fresh Windows 10 using Windows 8.1 key from tablet

Rather than do an in-place upgrade, can I perform a fresh Windows 10 installation on my Miix 2 8 using the Windows 8.1 key that came with the tablet? (First I gotta figure out how to boot from USB... See a different topic on this.) --Ron

i tried to use rufus but it didn't worked with the uefi on this tablet, i had to follow the diskpart steps posted on a lenovo support page i found
in my tablet i have win 8.1 single language with bing, so the normal win 10 home doesn't work, i had to use win 10 home single language, it asked for the serial key but allowed to install without providing any, after the installation ended, it activated automatically
the only real problem i had installing was that touch screen didn't worked during install and after logging in, keyboard and mouse stopped working, so i connected via otg another keyboard, installed intel chipset from the support page to get touch screen working and also dock driver to make keyboard and touchpadwork continuously
only problem now is that alt gr key doesn't work, i can't make the @ and other symbols via keyboard, only touch keyboard on screen, no idea what to do, system seems to believe that alt and alt gr is the same key and doesn't matter what keybard or language i set
in general i must say tat win 10 boots as fast or faster than win 8 and also batteyr seems to last longer, more than the 4 hours i usually get
also memory usage keeps around 1.2 gbs and i could delete the recovery parttition so i have 44 gbs free after installing office, libreoffice, antivirus, vlc and other 3 or 4 apps i normally use

  • Windows Vista product Key

Does anyone know how I can find out what my windows vista product key is. The sticker on the bottom of my laptop has worn off and it keeps saying that I need to enter it.

    Hello,
What is asking for the product key? Is it the operating system?
If it is the OS, what you need is the recovery disc, putting the product key will not work because the OS that was installed on the NB is already activated and it can't be activated anymore.
I think microsoft has a fix for this but they will charge you for the support.
It is better if you will just do the recovery so that you can reinstall the operating system..
    Hope this help.

  • Implemenation of windows right click key

i want to know how is the windows application key alias windows right click key is handled in java .
Is the functionality provided for the right click key in any of the java versions.
If yes , how is it done ? what is its keycode ?
If no , why what is the reason ?
and Is there any work around to implement the right click key if there is no direct solution .

    Hi Rommie,
Thanks for your kind information .
I want to know how is the windows right click key or context key is handled through keyboard instead through mouse .
I attempted to handle the Context key in Java in KeyPressed event. However, there is no specific key code . In Java, it returns a VK_UNDEFINED virtual key code. But, since the same VK_UNDEFINED is returned for other keys as well, say for Windows key or when using a Japanese key board, there seems to be no direct way to handle Context key in Java.
I would appreciate if there is anyother workaround solution that you may be aware of to handle the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amar.

  • Windows Start Menu key

Is it possible to capture the Windows Start Menu key in Java, or should I give up all hope?

    The "Windows"-Key fires VK_UNDEFINED / CHAR_UNDEFINED:
    * KEY_PRESSED and KEY_RELEASED events which do not map to a
    * valid Unicode character use this for the keyChar value.
So: Give up all hope. Especially on a Mac.
