Windows 8 freezing when using Firefox

When I'm using Firefox or Chrome browsers the whole entire PC is freezing.
Already posted my issue on the Microsoft Community forum, where you can read the details and the troubleshooting steps I tried:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-networking/windows-8-freezing-when-using-chrome-or-firefox/d6bad301-6c55-4469-96cb-0ec3d43e1113
Also I found another post here on the Mozilla forum, who had the same issue and he did not seem to solve it either: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/975278?esab=a&as=aaq
Please help me to fix this annoying issue! Thx!

Well, the MS site was a bust, wasn't it?
it would help to know how Firefox is configured.
Can you send me your troubleshooting information from the Firefox installation that's having issues? This is a good part in troubleshooting.

Firefox has hardware acceleration set to "on" by default, but it's still young, which means some video cards or drivers might have problems with it. You can try to disable hardware acceleration to see if that alleviates your problems.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps for Firefox version 29.0 and above:
*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux. For Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Note that if this issue happens in both Chrome <b>and</b> Firefox that it may be a system issue and not a Firefox related issue,

  • My iMac freezes when using Firefox

My iMac freezes when using Firefox. We have to restart our computer.

TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.

After browsing through related problems in the discussions, I saw this link to a third-party web site being handed out. Perhaps you'll find it useful: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Why is Windows 7 freezing when using Firefox?

-Has been happening for months now with many attempts to pinpoint cause. Have come to the conclusion that it is Firefox but don't understand why.
-When using Firefox, my entire PC, not just Firefox, will freeze. Sometimes it happens within the first 5min of using Firefox, other times it could happen an hour into a session. A hard restart is the only way to get back to my desktop as I have waited an hour before after a freeze and nothing happens. Mouse pointer won't move, nothing.
-Initially thought it was a hardware issue or an anti-virus issue.
-Reinstalled windows on three different hard drives that all pass the disk check. Still happens
-Installed windows 8 to see if that would fix the problem. Nope, does the same thing on Windows 8.
-Ran Memtest 86+ for 14 hours one night to see if it was my memory. Nope, zero memory errors found
-To be sure I even tried only using one stick of ram in my PC at a time to see if any of the sticks were bad. Nope, it froze with every stick
-Tried changing my anti-virus. It froze with every single one, AVG Free, Avast Free, Microsoft Security Essentials.
-I figured out that my PC only freezes when I am browsing the web in firefox. If I use chrome or Internet explorer, it doesn't happen. These total PC freezes only happen when I am using firefox.
-My only add on/plug in that I am using is Adblock plus besides the default ones that come with Firefox.
-My firefox is up to date, I have reset it and reinstalled it [while only adding Ad Block +] and this still does not fix the problem
-In the windows event log the only thing that happens every time my PC freezes is the Error "Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D", why this would only affect Firefox, I don't know.
-I would like to figure out the cause of this because I would really like to use Firefox again.

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".

  • My entire computer hangs when using Firefox

Periodically, my entire computer freezes when using Firefox and I have to do a hard shutdown. Most recently, my computer froze immediately after I opened a dialog box with open/save file options for a Kindle software update on Amazon.com.
At first I thought the problem might be a conflict with my online backup utility, SugarSync, so I've made a point of exiting SugarSync before opening FF. During the latest freeze, described above, however, Sugar Sync was off.
This problem has been occurring almost daily, and it can't be good for my computer. I really need a solution!
PS: I'm using version 3.6.13 on a Windows 7 machine.
    Thank you.

Firefox didn't crash, but I found qrobe to be less useful than google. To remove, go to the search icon on the tool bar. click on the search drop down menu, select "mange search engines." Click on qrobe and then click on "remove." Done.
I had to have another selection like google available before I could select remove for qrobe if you also have that issue.

  • Mouse freezes while using Firefox. No other programs affected. Also in safe mode. Tried reinstall without resolution. Disabled Addons. Happens especially while loading pages but also at other times.

    Hi.
The mouse freezes when using firefox. No other programs are causing this problem, which stops immediately once I use CTRL-ALT-DELETE to delete the firefox task.
I have done a full uninstall of firefox after trying safe mode without resolution. I deleted the install directory to make sure that no files remained in the default installation area.

was only after migrating the old account that things went wrong.
Hmm...that's the last place I'd expect an issue?
EDIT: Wait... if you didn't migrate the first time you booted up the system in Setup Assistant than you may have created another Home folder. Check your /Users in Safe Mode.
Thought twice about cracking open a new MBP, but spent quite a bit of cash fitting SSDs in 2 desktops and a laptop 6 months ago, so didn't feel like coughing up another 600 USD again.
Yes, that what I thought and in concept it's a good idea but I'm actually quite hardware challenged myself, so wouldn't even dream of it
Again, there's a lot of savvy hardware folks here, so I hope you get some concrete help.

Hello. I have windows xp. When using Firefox as my home page, I get awful screen interference of lines verticle and horizontal. When I switch to Internet Explorer I don't get them. I want to keep Firefox as server.

Here is something that you can try:
    # Click on Tools and then click Options.
    # Select the Advanced panel
    # Select the General tab
    # Uncheck Use hardware acceleration where available.
    # Click File and then click Exit.
    # Start Firefox normally.
Once you have followed those steps, you'll want to follow these as well and see if the lines are gone.
Click the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
Let me know if this has eliminated the problem.

When using Firefox, Internet explorer sometimes opens the same website or opens up a pop up advertisement.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.

  • When using Firefox, a new window to the Firfox support page opens at random intervals.

When using Firefox for normal web browsing, a new window to the Firefox support home page opens at random intervals. This occurrence can happen at odd intervals, from a few minutes, to hours apart. There does not appear to be any correlation as to which sites I'm visiting. I am not aware of touching any keyboard key (other than using the mouse) and this new Firefox support window pop-up seems to happen completely randomly. It happens about 10 times a day and is very annoying.

I have this problem as well, when ever I open Firefox. This has been going on for 2-3 days, and I simply select 'skip' and it goes away.
What is more bothersome is that now I am unable to organize my bookmarks, they no longer show up when I click on 'Organize Bookmarks'. My bookmarks still show up in the 'bookmarks' toolbar however.
I wonder if these two glitches are related?

  • Why do I get random BSOD when using Firefox with windows XP pro 32 bit? Seems to happen since system updates on 01/09/13.

I am using Chrome to write this and no crashes. I have defragged with the system defrager and Defragler both. I bought new memory but this issue happened a couple days after install around the time of some microsoft updates 01/09/13. I have run Memtest and a hard drive test as well, done a power cycle and run a disk cleaner. This only happens when using Firefox.

  • Just Installed Firefox 6.0.2 And I'm Having Many Problems On Some Web Sites When Using Firefox:

-When I click on a picture on some sites it will go to the next page with a large view of the picture and then when I go back one page to do the same with another picture (or even the same picture) nothing happens.
-Videos don't show up or on some sites the videos do show up and work but you can't make them full screen. (YouTube works fine).
-Sometimes I have to click "Reload" to get my saved codes to show up.
-It won't let me log onto some sites unless I right click where it says "sign in" and click "open link in new tab".
-In some Forums the tool bars, smileys, etc. don't work when using Firefox or IE9 and they worked before with IE9.
-Some of my letters when viewed with IE9 are now in some kind of code (maybe html?).
I never had these problems before when using IE9 alone!
Java was updated before I installed Firefox and I installed the Adobe Flash Player 10 plugin right after installing Firefox. My OS is Windows 7 64-bit.
    Please Help. Thank You

Hotmail won't open attachments when using Firefox. I'm not sure if this relates to cookies, add ons (I recently addded Ad-blocker and Do not track), or some other type of security setting. I have tried some proposed solutions on the we to no avail. Using Windows 7

    Tyler,
Thanks for your suggestion. My problem occurs when trying to open any type of file (at least .doc and .pdf, as far as I know). As I mentioned, when I log into hotmail from another browser, I am then able to open my attachments. I am hoping to figure out how to tinker with firefox so I no longer have this issue. I am not sure what is causing this block, but I know it has to do with Firefox (or settings relating to) or related add ons.

  • I have a mac 10.6 system when using firefox, I can no longer open attachments or downloads. I deleted firefox and reinstalled and it still doesn't work.

When using firefox, I can no longer open attachments, pdf or downloads. A new window will open and it is blank. The only way to open an attachment or pdf is to shut down firefox and use safari. Everything works with safari so I can't understand what went wrong with firefox. I even download adobe reader thinking that would help. I then deleted my original firefox and re downloaded firefox again. It still doesn't work.
I am using a 10.6 operating system on my Mac.

Try to disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.
