Windows 8 graphics not good in vlc player and audio is choppy

even though everything is fine in windows 8 in my macbook pro 2011 model , videos in vlc player is not of good quality.
Audio in youtube makes a strange shrill sound after a while . I have all latets bootcamp drivers installed (amd radeon one for graphics).
Will any bootcamp updated drivers fix it?

likely people repport that the nvidia part of the gpu don't work in win8 in bootcamp currently
so it only use the intel low power part of the gpu which perform poorly for games and media

i am using vlc player, and whenever i access a folder where i have many avi folders that vlc player is set as the default program to open them, the finder windows freezes and i have to relaunch it. also, when i click on get info for a particular avi folder, finder crashes again because it cannot preview the file in the window. does anyone know how i can resolve this issue?

I use VLC and there are some bugs with the latest version. Try an earlier version. WIth VLC, I keep the older versions for things like this.
For instance, the new VLC give the wrong time on a stereo audio file. In fact it gives double the correct time. I have had some other issues with VLC, but it's easy enough to remove and install.
If you make QT the default and then right-click the video and select VLC to play it, does that work?

Where are you and where did you get the phone? All iPhones come with a 1 year warranty from the original date of sale.

Windows 8.1 not recognizing Adobe Flash Player and Adobe help not helpful

I have a new laptop with Windows 8.1 64 bit. I tried to view a video and it said I did not have flash player. I went to download adobe flash player and your website said I had it intergrated into 8.1 and that it was either disabled, not the right version or that active X filters needed to be clear. I followed all instructions. Flash was installed with the 8.1 64 bit version. Flash was enabled for all websites and I cleared the active X filter and I still get told that I don't have install flash because it is intergrated and but it does not work. Please help I am in a cycle where Adobe is not helping just sending me in a circle. Thank you

Your problems aren't with Adobe or Flash Player. They're with Internet explorer 11 and Microsoft.
IE11 (Windows 7, 8 & 8.1) has been an abomination since its release October 18, 2013. Yahoo, Facebook, BBC, ESPN and dozens of other sites and domains have had trouble recognizing the Browser. If the site doesn't recognize the browser, it won't recognize any plugins in the browser, including Flash Player. Microsoft was made aware of the problems by millions of users within hours of the release, and so far they've shown no sign that they intend to fix it anytime soon. Their recommendation is to enable Compatibility View for affected pages. Two problems with that are that it's had only limited success, and you must enable it manually for each affected page. Basically, they're telling you to "pretend" you're not using IE11.
I'm not big on "pretending", and I recommend actually using something different. Something that works where IE11 won't.

Safari (from Apple)
Opera (from Opera)
ANY of those will work where IE isn't recognized, and they use the Flash Player Plug-in (for other browsers), except for Chrome, which has its own plugin embedded in by Google.

Windows Media Player and audio engine behavior

I have made one LFX and one GFX module both residing in the same dll.
I have noticed some strange behavior with windows media player which I don't understand.
When playing back audio with WMP there are always two processes (image names) that loads my dll with APOs. One process called audiodg.exe and one called svchost.exe. My understanding is that my APOs would be loaded only by the audio engine which I belief
is found in audiodg.exe.
Is there any explanation of why WMP causes my APO dll to be loaded by two different modules (image names) at the same time?
One of the reasons I'm asking is that I have problems getting my APOs working correctly with the tidal web player (tidal.com). I'm not sure what the problem is but I can see that my APO dll is loaded by two different modules (image names) at the same time,
just like WMP.

The "Windows Audio service" svchost.exe process is always running; you can check its current state via the "sc query audiosrv" command.

When someone calls IAudioClient::IsFormatSupported(...), your SFX is loaded into audiosrv to answer the query. Some media players call this, and some don't.
When audio actually plays, audiosrv launches audiodg.exe. audiodg.exe builds the full audio pipeline from app to driver, including all of your APOs.
Some time after audio stops playing, audiodg.exe shuts itself down.

I just upgraded to 6.0 and links that want to open in a new window do not work. Right click and selecting open in new window does work.

Similarly clicking a link in email does not open a window. I can drag the link to Firefox and a new tab opens.
Also clicking Tools -> Add-ons does not open a tab as it used to.

mha007, Thank you. I walked through your suggested solutions and finally disabled all add-ons and restarted them one by one. The culprit seems to be ViewSourceWith 0.8.11. Interestingly when it is enabled I had to go to TaskManager to force Firefox to quit.
Maybe this information will help others. I don't know if the cache clearing etc helped but I would suggest that others start but Bringing up Firefox in Safe Mode (hold shift when you select the icon), disable all add-ons and then start them one by one.
Of course if you have ViewSourceWith maybe you should just disable it first rather than go through the tedium of restarting each add-on separately. To get to the add-ons when it won't open from the toolbar type about:addons in the address area.

Is it possible to bypass the number of partitions limitation (no more than 2) when trying to boot into windows by not using boot camp assistant, and instead just partitioning the drive manually?

I can't find a specific answer to this question.
I did have a functioning Windows 8 installation on my MacBook Pro previously. I tried to make a third exFAT partition so as to have a drive mutually readable/writable to both operating systems. This made it so I could no longer boot into my Windows installation.
I know I'll need the boot camp drivers installed on the Windows installation after the fact, but would manually creating a partition and installing the OS without Boot Camp Assistant work? And would I be able to boot from it while having a total of 3 partitions?

That's the spirit!
Just be sure to have your OS X junk safe in a tested backup, in case the whole thing craps out and you end up having to do a low-level partition and erase of the entire drive.
And like I said, the problem is not OS X. I've set up mine at least once with 4 partitions holding as many flavors of OS X as can run on the hardware, all perfectly bootable on demand.

Windows does not fully shutdown--case lights and fans remain on

Hi all.
My computer (Win 7 64-bit) is not shutting down properly. When I click "Shut Down," Windows appears to carry out the shut down process, and the display then goes blank. But power to
my case persists; fans and LED lights remain on. I have no idea if this is even a hardware (motherboard, power supply, conflict) issue or software issue (OS, BIOS, etc). Any ideas how I can pinpoint/troubleshoot the problem?
I tried booting into safe mode and shutting down from there, but after a couple seconds the process then froze on the Windows Shut Down screen.
My system specs are:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3R-B3 (rev 1.x) (latest version of BIOS is installed)
BIOS: Latest for my motherboard (F9 I believe)
Processor: Intel Core i7
Memory: 8 GB DD3-1600 (4 x Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB WD10EZEX (brand new)
Power supply: 700W Stronger SPSN-070P
GPU: Radeon 6850
This is a fresh Windows install, and all Windows updates are up-to-date

Why do my sounds not work on occasion - device and audio settings appear ok

At times, the sound does not work. The phone is on and not muted and a specific sound is selected for each function. Most noticeable is no sound when a call or text comes through. Anyone have an idea? Thanks !

I had this & I think the reason was that I had just gotten a blue tooth headset which was turned on but I had taken it off. So I think the sounds were going there.
Yes, after I figured that out, I turned the blue tooth headset off when I took it off. Now when I just checked the sounds, they are sounding on the phone.
I guess the same woud be true if you have any other blue tooth or other device like head set or speaker set up for sounds.

Why does my iTunes window freeze and wont close until i shut my computer down, when the "iTunes is not the default media player" message appears? and how do i fix this? i just want to fix my music, but it freezes and i can't use my computer correctly.

when i plug my iPod into my computer, iTunes opens as normal, but for a while it's been giving me a message that says "iTunes is not the default media player" and after i 'tried' to do that, i'll close the settings window and my iTunes window will freeze and not close, reload, or anything. and if i "open drvice to view files" that window will freeze too, the internal storage window. i can't get iTunes to close with ALT+F4, or right clicking the tab on the bottom of the screen to close it, or clicking the 'X' button. the only way it closes is when i shut down my computer. please help me fix this. Its getting Really Really tiring having to restart my computer over and over.

I recently re-installed java, and when i opened firefox the add-ons window opened with it. the Add-ons window will not close without closing firefox, and turning the pc off, using ctr+alt+del wont work. any assistant will be greatly appreciated

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

X-Fi DD-DTS doesn't seem to work right playing DVD Movies with VLC Player or anything els

I have an X-Fi Platinum with the bay and When I try to Play a DVD with VLC Player And choose a/52 over s/pdif it sounds HORRID skipping and pausing and not functioning at all.. I must choose 5. channel to have Listenable Audio. The Same goes for AC3 Encoded Files If I chose A/52 over S/PDIF in VLC player it sounds like **bleep** and doesn't seem to decode it right. I must chose stereo 2 channel to listen to AC3 encoded video's.. NOTE The dolby Digital symbol DOES appear when i chose A/52 over S/PDIF so it does know it's a digital signal.. And I have the software set to USE hardware decoder and S/PDIF in Decode selected. NOW Here's something that REALLY makes me wonder wtf is wrong, I can connect my Home DVD Player or Cable Box over the Optical?in OR the S/PDIF in and the SOB works Fine, The Dolby Digital symbol comes up and everything sounds great! Quicktime to VLC player as default media player?

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how to change it so that rather than all my .avi's be associated with Quicktime, they're all played by VLC player. When I used to have a Windows PC, it was fairly easy to go into options and change what program you wanted to open what, but I've only had my Mac for a little over a week, and I don't really know what to do.
I want to change it so that ALL my .avi's will open with VLC player and I don't have to right click -> open with -> VLC each time I want to open a vid.
Or...is there a better alternative to a program that will play everything? So far, with all my .flvs, .avis, and .wmvs, FLC player seems to be the best one I've found. Is there a way to have Quicktime play all of these files?

Also...do you know if there is a way to change the settings so that when you finish downloading a song, it won't automatically open up the default program and start to play the song?

Dvd-player/vlc player/xine-player hang when disc starts

lately all my players hang when i get my dvd-hardware startet. the dvd-screen pops up, several seconds of the movie are shown and then it hangs (ends just by quit now). i´ve tried with dvd-player, vlc-player and xine-player. one week ago all (at least dvd-player and vlc-player) worked perfectly well - i don´t understand ?! btw i´m talking of original discs. software is updated, i´m working with 10.6.8

Thank you for the response. I have checked it, and it says (i've dutch language) something i would translate to English as "System sound output". Is that preference for all discs? I would assume so. But DVD-player plays some discs without sound, and some with sound. So maybe it is codec related? But i would not know how to check that... (when i try to see what codec, audio says it is dts, and i assume dts audio should be no problem?)
