Windows 8 mf4890 print

Thanks to the tips on getting scanning to work and how to clear out the lingering bits & pieces that prevented new driver install.
Now I cannot print to the mf4890dw.  Job shows up in queue, but I get "Error cannot print" and no useful information about why I am getting an error, not even the whisper of an error code.
The printer is clearly installed in Devices & Printers with the correct name.  The printer is clearly online.  The print job gets submitted and just hangs out in the print queue, then eventually shows error, but I never get told why.
Pardon me....I need to go pull out my certified Microsoft Crystal Ball so I can figure out what is wrong!
Seriously.  This ain't helpful.  Hints are welcome.  I really don't want to re-re-re-install the software.

Hi bhaglind!
So that I better assist you, I would like to ask a few questions:
How is the printer connected to the computer?  Is it connected with a USB cable directly to the computer or wirelessly over the network?
How many icons are listed for the the MF4800 Series in the Devices & Printers window?
I look forward to your reply.  If you need immediate assistance, please contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).

  • Firefox crashes on Windows 7 when printing to a Windows 7 network printer.

On Windows 7 running Firefox 3.6.10, I cannot print to a Windows 7 network printer. Firefox crashes every time as soon as I hit print.
However, the situation is very specific. I can print from Windows XP using Firefox 3.6.10 to a Windows 7 network printer. I can also print from Windows 7 using Firefox 3.6.10 to a Windows XP network printer. The only situation that doesn't work is using Firefox and printing from Windows 7 machine to Windows 7 machine.
Firefox is also the only program that does not print. I can print using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, MS Word, MS Excel, and every other application just fine. Firefox is exclusive in that it is the only program that crashes and refuses to print. The drivers that are being used a PostScript drivers.
I have tried multiple versions of Firefox from older ones to the Firefox 4 beta and the program crashes every time.
Again, the only time it crashes is printing from a Windows 7 client computer to a Windows 7 network printer. Printing from XP to Windows 7 and from Windows 7 to XP works.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The only program I've noticed the problem with is Firefox, so I'm assuming it's a problem at the application level.

  • Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

    Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
    1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
    2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
    3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
    4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
    5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
    6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
    7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850.  This did not fix my problem.

    Hello All,
The printer goes offline due to proper driver is not installed correctly or if the printer port is not selected correctly.
I would suggest that you check the printer port (if the printer is connected via USB then chck if you have selected USB001,002... OR DOT), if the printer is connected via Network then check if the printer is selected via TCP/IP and then check the results.
Alternatively, you may uninstall and reinstall the driver and then check the results.

  • Windows 8 stops printer spooler in vista pc

My AIO HP F4280 printer spooler service in my Windows Vista PC stops when I send a print job via wireless from my Windows 8 laptop PC. I downloaded and installed the Windows 8 software for the F4280 and if the printer is connected to the Windows 8 PC, prints from the Windows 8 PC, as well as prints sent via wireless from the Vista PC, are done with no issues.
Going back to wireless from the Win 8 to the Vista continues to stop the spooler service.
All known updates for both PCs have been installed.

     need help

    Hi.
I think I solved this yesterday. We got 1 printserver, with an alias, which we had this problem to connect to. I noticed that there is a difference between x86 and 64bits system entries in the registry...
When you are having a 64bit system, you must use REG_QWORD instead of REG_DWORD, REG_DWORD is only to be used in x86 system! See below.
    Windows 2008 server R2 64-bit
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print
    = ”DnsOnWire” = REG_QWORD Decimal = 1
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\print /v DnsOnWire /t REG_QWORD /d 1)
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters
    = DisableStrictNameChecking = REG_QWORD Decimal = 1
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v DisableStrictNameChecking /t REG_QWORD /d 1)
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanmanServer\Parameters\
    REG_SZ = OptionalNames = “aliasname” (C-name record in DNS)
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v OptionalNames /t REG_SZ)
    Windows 2008 server x86
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print = "DnsOnWire" = REG_DWORD Decimal = 1
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\print /v DnsOnWire /t REG_DWORD /d 1)
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Lanmanserver\Parameters = DisableStrictNameChecking = REG_DWORD Decimal = 1
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v DisableStrictNameChecking /t REG_DWORD /d 1)
    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\LanManServer\Parameters\  REG_SZ = OptionalNames = “aliasname”
    (C-name record in DNS)
    (reg add hklm\system\currentcontrolset\services\lanmanserver\parameters /v OptionalNames /t REG_SZ)
Don't forget to reboot your system after these changes!

  • I am unable to select the correct paper size when printing photo's in iPhoto 11. When I select the paper size in the custom window for 4x6 prints the prints only appear on an 8 1/2x11 page. My Mac is a year old iMac running 10.8.2.

I am unable to print 4x6 photo's using iPhoto 11. When I do they only print out on lettter size paper even though I enter 4x6 in the custom window in the print size menu. My older Snow Leopard system using iPhoto 9 the paper size window offered a 4x6 paper size which worked well.

Selecting paper size in the first sreen tellis iPhoto what papery you are going to use - it does not tell the printer what paper to use - printer specific options on on the last (second or third if you customize the print) screen where you tell the print any specifics like paper source (typically printers need to you tell them where a specific paper is loaded - they do not really know the sizes in each paper tray)

  • Smartforms main window is not printing

    Hi,
I would like to ask what to do with this problem.
The smartform main window is not printing in all the pages.  All the other windows, even the window with the total data is printing.  The only problem is the contents of the main window is not printing.
Also, the problem only happens when the I've changed printer.
When I use LOCL as printer, the smartform is OK but when I change the printer, the problem is encountered.
This also happens when I change environment from development server to production server.  In production server, even the LOCL printer is encountering the problem.
    thanks.

    Hi Mike,
Have you checked the device type in transaction SPAD? Try to click on Full Admininstration from application toolbar and select device types.
    Hope the above helps.
    Cheers,

  • HP 4250TN Drivers on Windows Server 2008 Print Server

    Hi:
I'm having a heck of a time with HP 4250 printers installed on a Windows Server 2008 printer server.  First I used the PCL6 driver downloaded from HP site.  But then after client computers install printer they cannot print from Acrobat in landscape orientation.  Also, whenever I select Printer Properties on the server Windows responds that the print drivers are not installed,  asking if I want to install them.  My client machines are a mix of XP, W7 32-bit and W7 64-bit.  I switched to the PCL5 driver on the server, which fixed the Acrobat landscape issue, but now none of my XP clients can install the network printer, even  when browsing to the PCL 5 driver for XP as downloaded from HP's site (I have not had success installing the x86 drivers on my 64-bit printer server).
I can install the 4250 on an XP machine w/direct TCP/IP port using PCL 5e driver but then I  defeat purpose of print server.
Any suggestions on easiest driver/print server installation/cfg. is greatly appreciated!

It appears that you have a commercial LaserJet in an enterprise enviornment.  It would be best to post in the commercial LaserJet forums.

  • MacBooks can't resolve printer name when sending job to windows 2008 R2 print server.

So I am work at company in a windows server 2008 r2 and we have a windows 2008 r2 printer server. Our macbook pros are not on the domain so every time we print to the server we have to type in our credentials.
MacBooks can't resolve printer name when sending job to windows 2008 R2 print server while on wifi but works when hard wired. Any thoughts? The error message I receive is "invalid printer name". I've tried adding the printer through the advanced tab in the print and scan tab of system preferences. I add it buy smb://servername/printername.
When I tried to print on the wifi at my office I get "invalid printer name" in the print job status que.
We can just do direct printing but I would like to know if anyone has had this issue before and if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

I assume you aare using exchange when configuring the email notifications? What I would do is just use a normal IMAP & SMTP account such as Outlook.com or if you use a POP connector for exchange, one of those accounts' SMTP settings.
For example, I have a POP connector installed and my emails are hosted at 1and1. What I would do here is put my 1and1 SMTP settings in and use these, instead of using Exchange.
Let me know if this is possible.

  • 7210 All-in-one with Windows 7 Draft print extremely slow

I have an Officejet 7210 All-in-One printer and a computer with Windows 7 32bit installed.  I downloaded and installed the print driver for windows 7.  Printing was working fine including fast printing.  I changed the default color preference from "high quality" to "grayscale black only" and now my draft printing is extremely slow.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    jsin007

    Hi
The 7210 was always a good workhorse printer.
It may be that your slow printing issue is related to installing the Windows 7 driver. When the Windows 7 print driver was installed it may be that the Windows 7 installer did not remove the older print driver correctly. This may cause conflict issues which could possibly cause the slow printing you are experiencing.
I do have a link to a troubleshooting page for a printer not printing after the installation of the Windows 7 driver.  It involves downloading a print driver removal utility & then re-installing the Windows 7 driver.

  • EA6300 - Windows TCP/IP Printing Using LPR Protocol to USB ??

I am in process of replacing an old Zyxel router with (probably) an EA6300 (depending on the answer to this post...)
Currently I have a Dymo USB label printer connected to the Zyxel's USB port, and my Windows 7 clients are set up to print to that device using the LPR protocol through a Windows TCP/IP print port connected to 192.168.1.1 (the IP address of the Zyxel).
So my question is whether the EA6300 will work in the same way?

Hi Andrew! Yes the VUSB software must be installed on your Windows 7 computer for it to be able to see the printer that will be connected to the USB port of the EA6300 and be able to print . Here's more information about the EA6300, http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=7e5454f239a946599bd151dccb031a57_Getting_to_know_t...

  • Printing to Windows 7 Shared printer???

Ok, so I just tried every one of the convoluted ways I can think of to get a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.4.11 to Print to a printer shared by a Dell PC running Windows 7... NOTHING WORKED!!! 3 hours down the drain... :'(
I got file sharing working just fine, but nothing I did would allow the Mac to see the shared printer...
Is Tiger (10.4.11) too old to see a Windows 7 shared printer???
    HELP!!!!

I'm struggling with the same thing, myself. The Snow Leopard and Windows 7 machines are right as rain, and I can print without problem. (Did turn off Homegroup, as I read somewhere that this is only useful if all the machines in the environment are Windows 7.) The Tiger machine, though... it can see the computer and connect to the shared drive, but it does not see the printer.
The document given above is for 10.5, it's 10.4.11. However, I found this article on the same site (see below), printing between 10.4.11 and Vista (not Windows 7), and I'm gonna give it a whirl tomorrow. I don't think for Windows 7 that SMB has to be specifically enabled, because again, no issues from the Snow Leopard machine in that regard. What caught my attention specifically is in this article on this page, enabling Line Printer Daemon (LPD).

  • Cannot Print to a Windows 8 shared Printer

I have a home network of Windows 8 as a file and Print Server connected to 2 Windows Laptops and a Macbook Air. I have a HP Laserjet attached to the Win 8. When I added the printer on the Mac, it installed the required software. Now, when I try to print from the Mac, I get a msg saying that holding for authentication. On entering the details, the printer dialog box still says holding for authentication.
    Mac OSX - 10.8.3
    Windows 8.
    Printer - HP Laserjet.

This is a very common problem. I encountered this using an HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer which was USB connected to a Windows 7 SP1 machine. It was shared to all users using Windows print sharing. Bidirectional file sharing between Windows and iMac 27 running OS X 10.8.5 worked fine. Windows 7 was configured for workgroup sharing, not homegroup or domain-based sharing. This is the simplest, most basic level of sharing in a cross-platform situation.
On the Mac, I installed the HP OS X drivers. After driver installation, the printer model was visible in the System Preferences>Print & Scan>Add Printer dialog.
After adding it the network shared printer on the Windows PC was visible from the Mac and I could check print status, toner levels, etc. However upon trying to print, it would hang in the Mac print queue with the message "on hold (authentication required)".
In my case the solution was pressing the refresh button on the print queue, which ONLY THEN displayed a login authentication screen. It was defaulting to my Mac admin login which (maybe in the goal of visual simplicity) was not shown.
I changed the login to Username: guest, Password: guest, and it printed fine.
This is extremely frustrating, as it took me hours to find this. I see many, many other discussion threads where this is likely the problem. Some of them struggled with this problem for days. This activity is in the COMMON PATH of a large % of users. It is not a fringe or rare activity or an "edge case".
Ideally Mac OS should just transparently handle this. Lacking that, the build-in help documentation should cover it. Lacking even that, at least an Apple KB article should cover it. Lacking even that, if the authentication dialog was not suppressed but popped up by default, at least it would point some users in the right direction.
As it is, not a single one of those things were done, and many people continue to hit this over, and over, and over. It is an embarrassing situation. There are 80,000 Apple employees. If just one of them spent a few minutes to write a KB article about this, it would help a lot.
There are likely other sub-cases which could cause the same error message. You don't want an excessively broad, poorly-worded KB article which implies there's a single solution to a given error. However the problem is nothing has been written or done to address this, and it's apparently been causing users problems for years.
