Windows 8 offline files on network share disappear after offline reboot

Hello,
We are using Group Policy Preferences to map a drive for our users.  Windows 8 users who make this drive, or some of the files\folders in it, 'Always available offline' are finding that the network drive disappears completely if they do an offline reboot.
Windows 7 users are fine - their drive\files\folders continue to be visible and available even after an offline reboot.
Our domain is Windows 2008 R2.
I've had a look around for suggested solutions to this issue.  So far I've tried re-initialising the offline
file cache and ensuring that hotfix 2795944 is installed on the Windows 8 machines as these seemed to fix similar issues for other people.  However, neither have worked for me.
Can anyone suggest anything else that might solve this issue please?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Ros

Hi Roger,
Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid your suggestion hasn't worked.
I added that DWord value ([HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"EnableLinkedConnections"=dword:00000001) into the registry and rebooted while connected to our network.  When
I logged back on, I'd lost my network mapping completely.  I ran a gpupdate /force to reapply the group policy.  When I logged back on, the drive mapping was back but incorrectly - it was mapped to the root of the 'Users' directory on the file server
instead of users\username as it should be.
I deleted the registry key, rebooted and my drive mapping was back to users\username as expected.  However, it still loses the mapping as soon as I do an offline reboot.
The 'Reconnect' option is not checked in our Group Policy.

  • Network shares disappear in Finder on OS X Lion

We purchased a new 21" iMac with OS X Lion installed. We have seen several problems with this machine since the beginning. One of them is network shares disappearing after a while in the Finder. I've had this issue a couple of times so far.
The shares are a Macbook, a Mac Pro, my Time Capsule, a Synology share (using AFP), and MacBook Air by BTTM. The only way to solve this is a reboot. Disabling and then enabling File Sharing in the Sharing Preferences doesn't work. Relaunching Finder doesn't work either.
When I tried to reboot the last time, the computer closed everything but didn't shut down, it hung at the wallpaper. I logged in using SSH to reboot it gracefully.
Does anyone know how I can diagnose and resolve this problem?
    Thank you!

I suffer from this bizarre problem too.
In finder, when I copy and paste files from one folder/subfolder, to another folder/subfolder, It may not paste them at all; or, it may paste some of the files I copied; or, it may, correctly, paste every one of the files.  The files that ultimately do not get correctly pasted briefly appear   "shadow-like," then almost instantaniously vanish.   This problem is erratic and substantial.
The files i ordinarily copy and paste are Office, iWork, or .pdf documents.
Please help, or engineer a remedy. Thanks, in advance.

  • Windows network shares disappearing when users are logged on to Mac

We are having some problems with windows network shares disappearing when users are logged on to Mac computers.
We have a number of Mac labs that users can logon to using their AD login credentials. Their network shares are saved on a windows file server. The ad plug has been configured on each client Mac as has the LDAP plug-in. It is configured to connect to the Xserve which is running as an OD master. The system preferences for the client Macs are being managed from the Xserve.
The problem for the users is that they can log into the Mac no problem and they can see their network share appearing on the desktop and in the dock, but for some reason on random Macs and with random users the network share disappears. If they log off and log back in again the network share is still missing. As it happens randomly I can not put my finger on what the problem is.
Most labs either have Intel iMacs running 10.4.11 or Intel iMacs running 10.5.5
    Any help will be appreciated

    Mike,
We need to know some basic scoping information to provide any further input.
    1)
Is the user prompted that the server will be shutting down?
    2)
Does Task Scheduler show that the task ran at the scheduled time?
    3)
Are there any errors in %windir%\tasks\schedlgu.txt?
    4)
Does the problem still occur if the machine is in its own OU with blocked inheritance?
Does the problem still occur in a clean boot configuration with MSConfig
    Steps to clean boot machine:
    ================
Start > Run > Msconfig > Select Services > click "check box", "Hide all microsoft services" > Disable all

  • Cannot open Office 2013 Excel, Word, PPT Files on Network Share

Cannot open Office 2013 Excel, Word, PPT Files on Network Share
I am having a problem opening any Office 2013 file when it is located on a network drive. I immediately get the error:
"Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
. To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
. To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to."
It only occurs when I try to access the file when it is stored on a network share. I cannot open any word, excel or PPT files located on my file shares.
I am on Windows 8 (pro), part of a local domain based on Server 2003, and have administrator rights to the domain and the file share where the Excel file resides (and Word files -same problem). If I copy the file locally, I can either open
it directly, or right-click, go to Properties and 'un-block' the file and then open it. But it is impractical to keep doing this, as I edit different files from the directory tree all day.
I have bing'd and google'd this extensively, and the only answers I come up with do not work, such as going into the DCOM config system and changing the user from interactive to launching user, or vice versa, or even using a specific user - mine
with the password. Since the product is so young there aren't a lot of posts on this, and nothing has improved the situation.
Can you add any insight to this? I really want to use Office 2013, but this is such an obstacle I'm going to have to downgrade if this problem cannot be resolved. Thank you very much for any help you can offer.
    Evan

    Dear Evan,
If DCOM config solution did not work, I'd suggest narrow down the problem by trying to access another network share on another server, try to open an Office file there, do we still have the error? It could help us determine if the issue is on the client
    machine or the server side.

  • Can't copy files to network share using migrated account

Man this is so bizarre. I got a new MacBook Pro and used the Migration Assistant to copy over everything from the old MacBook Pro. Everything seems to work except I can't copy files to my desktop via a network share.
What's totally bizarre about this is that I can delete and rename files from the network share! I can also drop into the command line and try copying - at first, I get "Operation not permitted", but if execute the command again, it works!
In the Finder, when I try to copy a file, I get a window that says:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "xxx". If I click stop at this point, a zero-byte file is created on the target machine.
If I click Continue, I get another window that says "The item "xxx" contains one or more items you do not have permissions to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?
If I click Continue, I get a final window that says "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items".
Note that this also happens in the opposite direction when I connect to my notebook from my desktop.
Also note that this only happens with the account that was migrated. I can successfully copy files if I setup a new account.
I've repaired permission on both machines. My old account on the old MacBook Pro still works fine, btw.
I've seen other posts with people having this problem, but I've yet to see a good solution.

I had the same problem, but I managed to fix it.
In WGM check that the sharepoint of your users Home Folder is set to owner root with Read and Write permissions.
I also created an ard_admin group in WGM and enabled open directory management on the client Macs. (Page 62 of the ARD admin Guide.)

  • Issues Opening Files in Network Share

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue I'm having,
I use a Windows 7 desktop at my office and I have a Network Share on a Windows 2008 Server where I save all my documents and file I work on each day.
I use my Macbook Air when I'm working at my other office and when I'm traveling.
    My issue is this,
I setup and able to connect to my Network Share and see all my folders and files. Although if I try to open a file it tells me it can't find the file even though I used Finder to browse right to the file and double clicked on the file. I can copy the file locally to my MacBook, work on the file and then copy it back to the Network Share.
From me testing different things this is what I have found,
It's only Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents that don't open from the Network Share. - I do have Microsoft Office 2011 Mac installed
TXT & PDF Files open just fine from the Network Share.
I doesn't matter if it's Word, Excel or Powerpoint files created on my Windows 7 desktop or my Macbook Air, once it's moved to Network Share I can't open it.
This is where it gets really confusing, other Network Shares I can open the Excel & Word files right from the Network Share, it's just my personal Network Share and I put in the right username and password for my Network Share since I can open the TXT & PDF files just fine.
I'd appricate any help with this issue.
    Thanks in advanced - Jonathan

I have the same problem and i'm not the only one @ my office. seems that everybody who uses mac in our office has the same problem. So could anybody give any advice how to solve this problem? Do we need to configure shared folders on server or just our macs?

  • Access Denied Errors Copying Files to Network Share

We recently upgraded to Coldfusion MX 7 (7.02 Windows) and
Windows 2003 Server. Now I am getting access-denied errors when
attempting to copy files to a network share (not a mapped drive -
    \\server\share) using <cffile action="copy">. All other file
copy operations work fine. This has been working fine for several
months but broke when we upgraded to MX 7 and Windows 2003. Any
suggestions for a solution would be apprectiated.

I figured out what the problem is in case anyone else is
interested. The Coldfusion Application Server service is by default
set to run as local only. You need to set this service to run under
a user that has access to network resources and rights to the
    destination path.

    Hello all,
I hope all is well, I am having a very odd issue.

It of course is not telling which application or program is causing this.
I have confirmed all windows updates are up to date.
I have gone to the windows search in services and swapped the 1 for a 0, that opened up three of the four network drives for search
the last one is still causing this error.
User computer is windows 7 professional 64 bit

any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Hi Josh,
What operation did the user act and how to use the explorer search function to cause the issue? Please check if the issue still exists after the user does the same action locally.
You could refer to the thread below to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Opening windows "Access" database files through network

Is there any way to open windows "Access" database files on my mac through a network to a windows machine? I have the windows for mac software but it doesn't include access.

    Hi,
As per the description, I understand that your Office 2013 cannot open files through a network share directly.
I would like to know that how many clients/users are affected by this in your environment. It could be some specific user account settings, that the Office applications are being affected by.
I'd first suggest you try with a new Windows user profile, then verify result.

  • Can not copy files to network share

    Hi everyone.
We have a Windows Server 2003r2 64-bit. There are a few network share on this server and folders with user profiles (we use roaming profile in our infrastructure).
A few days ago some users lost possibility to copy files on any network share on this server. Windows says "Not enough space on the disk", but free space on server is about 12% (100gb). If copy files to other server, everything is OK.
Log on user to another PC didn't help.
If join user to group "Local admin" on server - files copying succesfully.
Creating new folder with FC permissions for this user didn't help.
FSRM role isn't installed, no quotas.
    Anyone ancountered whith similar situation?

    Hi,
It seems that you configure disk quota on users to limit the disk space usage.
Configuring Disk Quotas on NTFS Volumes
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758877(v=ws.10).aspx
If you configure disk quota on users, users cannot save data on the disk when the users exceed their quota limit. By default, quota limits are not applied to the Administrators local group. Thus, the uses joined to the "Local admin" group don’t have
    the issue.

  • Excel 2013 hangs while trying to open a file from network share

    Hi,
I am having issue opening excel file from a network share. it happens randomly, the file opens and hangs abruptly. Nothing happens after that ( we can only move the cursor), if we click on the excel sheet we get a beep sound. after i kill the excel process
and open it again ,it works fine.
Where did the member use the Excel file? Local disk, SharePoint, File server, or network shared disk?
Network shared file and sometime locally
Does the issue occur in the special file or every file?
it happens randomly and the whole excel freezes. i have to kill the excel session.
Which Office version is the file created? Excel 2013 or early? If it is XLS format, please try to convert to XLSX to test.
Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013
Does the file have some macros?
Yes, they have macros in some files
Does the issue occur recently? If it is, have you installed some programs or update before you encountered it?
           it happened before too.
Do you get some error message when Excel crashed?
Yeah. Attaching the error message from event viewer. We get file corrupt errors and below too.
    Please suggest

  • Event ID 33020 LS Centralized Logging Agent - Error while moving cache files to network share

I have the "AlwaysOn" CLS logging scenario running in my Lync 2013 Enterprise deployment.  I did not configure the CacheFileNetworkFolder option since i don't care about retaining these logs anywhere other than on the local drives of the Lync
servers so i just left it blank.  Now every few hours or so I am getting Event ID 33020 in each Lync server and SCOM is firing an alert as well.
The CsClsLogging configuration is as follows:

Is there a way to stop the flow of these events without having to configure CLS to transfer the logs to a network share?

Yes, the CacheFileLocalFolders path of 'c:\CLSTracing' is valid on all the Lync servers.  The AlwaysOn scenario is started, running and producing .hdr & .cache files in this folder on all servers across my front-end, director and edge pools.
In addition, i am able to search for and extract, valid logging information that i can analyze using Snooper.exe.
    Reconfigure the CentralizedLoggingConfiguration how???
Tried setting the CacheFileNetworkFolder value to null by running: Set-CsClsConfiguration -CacheFileNetworkFolder $null  and then restarting the CLS agent.  As expected, event 33037 fired confirming the settings were received from the CMS.

  • Can't connect Windows 7/XP to Lion network shares.

Just updated my primary system to Lion, and can't get any of my Windows clients to authenticate to the network shares.  I can connect Lion to Lion (AFP), Lion to Windows 7/XP (SMB), but not Windows 7/XP to Lion (SMB).  Everything was working fine under Snow Leopard, and I have tried everything I can think of to get it working.  Windows sees the Lion system, just doesn't authenticate the user account when I try to connect using either machine name or ip address.

That's dumb, there is already a registry DWORD named LmCompatability level with a value of 1!  I get this all the time... none of you, and I mean none of you really knows why Win 7 cannot connect to Win server 2000!  It could be patches, updates,
or maybe one day it just decides to work!   It's just like the other posts on how to set up VPN... ha!  They leave out the most important part... you have to call your ISP and get a static IP address issued!  For example, you have to call
Charter or Comcast and get a static IP.  They go through all the nice stuff in the server side and show how to set up VPN but they never start out with, "First of all you need to get a static IP address otherwise it won't work, or you also should get
a VPN router with firewall or you system will be wide open.... and etc....."
I was fighting with my win7 to connect to my server 2003, and you know what?  I don't even know what I did!  It just started to connect after I loaded a bunch of updates!  ... and after I find out that also have to sign with the Admin password
NOT just make up a name in Active Directory and try signing in with that one...doesn't work.... have to sign in with the Admin password...
Anyone who has ever tried to sign in with Win 7 to an older server should know this stuff!  Most of you sound like you never even tried to connect win 7 to a server, but your taking a crack at answering the post in this thread anyways...!  #fail!
Some of you people either are lousy teachers or you don't know, but you have the urge to give out erroneous info!!  What are you, 16?  8?

  • Crawled files on network share is missing certain file properties

I added a network share as a content source to my SharePoint Server 2010 Search feature and successfully crawled the content of an image repository. All worked well except I specifically set some tags (keywords) on the files prior to the crawl but the tag
property of the file does not seem to get indexed.
I was looking at the possibility of mapping this property under the Search Administration but I am still not sure how to do this. Is it possible and how can it be accomplished?
    Thanks.
    Ken

    Hi Ken,
Are you talking about the tag property for JPEG image?
I searched in the Crawled Properties in SharePoint 2010 Search Metadata Properties, there are only eight OOB crawled properties relevant to Image without Tag property. So we can use OOB properties.
If you need to have this property, you might need to build your own IFilter for such property.

  • Lion thinks files on network share are open when they aren't

I have a machine running Lion and when the user goes to open a file on a network share they recive "the file is in use" error, a few seconds later a dialog box pops up saying that the file is available and the user is able to open the file.
I've checked and the file is not open any where else. I'm thinking that this has somthing to do with the new reopen file feature in Lion but I haven't been able to find proof to that fact.
I'm running an xServer with 10.6.7 and a 10.7 client.
