Windows 8 on ideapad z575

I have just installed windows 8 pro on ideapad z575. Everything works great all devices are recognized and working. Only issue that I have is that some Microsoft applications from store won't update or install, some of them maybe probably during driver updates because this is all Microsoft basic drivers, besides that everything works flawlessly. Probably that would be fixed when Lenovo release official drivers.

Not all drivers have been released for windows 8 of all machines. The only thing you can try is installing windows 7 driver on windows 8. Most of the time they work but they may not work too and you would have to wait for them to be published.

Hi, i recently bought a Lenovo IdeaPad N580 (M/N 20182) and it came with windows 8 preinstalled, i have no intentions in keeping windows 8 and i want to format it and get windows 7, this is the first lenovo i buy and i've been reading in the forums and other sites a couple of things that caught my attention.
Are there any partitions i shoulnd get rid of?
I dont care at all about the windows 8 and the software it cames with but i dont want any components (TouchPad, Audio, etc) to stop working (i alredy downloaded most of the drivers available in the support section of this website) are there any risks none the less?
What things should i keep in mind, pre download or read before i format and last but not least i would appreciate any advices.
    thanks in advance.

  • Blown out screen - Windows 7 - Ideapad U460

I've had this Ideapad U460 for about two months. Yesterday, when I opened the lid, the screen was really blown out. Text is very light against white backgrounds, and all of the graphics are very light. This isn't an issue with the backlight, even when I turn the backlight all the way down everything is still blown out.
I went into the Windows 7 color calibration wizard and had to turn the gamma all the way down to get it to look somewhat normal, but after I shut the lid and opened it again, the problem is back.
Is this a hardware problem? How do I fix it? It's very hard to use the computer with such a blown out screen.
    Thanks--

This issue happens to me as well. It has happened several times since I got my U460. Each time lasts for a day or two, and 2 or 3 months goes by between incidents.
I couldn't really figure out what to take a picture of, and my camera had trouble focusing on the screen. Suffice it to say everything is lighter than it should be.
Switching between "battery save" mode and normal mode seems to be a trigger, though it can happen without a switch.
I hope this gets resolved. Not a huge issue, but it shouldn't happen.

  • Z50 unusable after Windows 10 install

Hi;After installing the Win10 free upgrade, I can no longer use my Z50.  The system boots to the logon screen fine.  I can log in fine.  From there the system continues to boot for about 1 minute, and then the desktop starts blinking on and off.  At that point, I'm only able to press Ctl+Alt+Del to get to a stable screen.  I can go into task manager, and that window stabilizes, some, while the desktop continues to flash behind it.   CPU usage varies constantly from 90% to 60% and sometimes falls to 37%.  The % usage doesn't seem to correlate to the desktop stability. The program using the most CPU time is; "Host Process for Setting Synchronization." Disk usage is also very high, hovering between 96% and 80% continuously. The top programs using Disk resources are;"Start Menu""Windows Problem Reporting""Host Process for Setting Synchronization""Antimalware Service Executable" The mouse pad works, and I'm able to pick through the different menus in the Task Manager.  From there, I can launch some programs by using "Run Task."  Trying to type in the command line, is extremely difficult, though, because as the desktop blinks, the cursor position is lost, and I end up having to reselect the command line with every letter I type.I've been able to launch Chrome, and Internet explorer, and the internet connectivity works, but as the desktop blinks, the cursor position is lost, and that makes it very difficult to even navigate to webpages.  I've been able to download content, but I can't launch it directly from the browswer I can open the Windows Explorer program, and move around inside of it, but the desktop instability makes it just as difficult as using the web browser.  From here, I'm able to launch executables. I'm assuming this is a driver related issue, but I don't know where to start.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Mat

I had an issue where many apps and features didn't load correctly. My Edge browser could never load and many apps couldn't be launched from within the Start menu (Settings, Store, etc). The OneKey Theatre appp gave me the biggest headache. I uninstalled that and every other "Lenovo" manufactured app and my Windows 10 upgrade installation started to work perfectly afterwards. I'm on an Ideapad z575. Windows 10 doesn't play nice with certain programs that came previously installed. Try uninstalling as many programs as you can and you might have the same luck as I did.

  • Windows 8 upgrade for z560??

When is the upgrade for z560 laptops expected?

I don't think we're going to get any, although I keep checking back to the drivers page and here to see if there are any changes.  The compatibility page doesn't list the z560 as being compatible, but it doesn't list it as being not compatible either.
I clean installed Windows 8 Pro from the retail box I purchased and added the Windows Media Center free upgrade to it.  I've found that as long as we install a few drivers on our own the z560 is absolutely compatible.
I needed the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers, the Nvidia drivers (which include their HDMI HD Audio driver) since I have the model with the Nvidia graphics, the Synapic touchpad driver, the Lenovo Power Management software for Windows 8 (with some files patched over from the Windows 7 version), and the Lenovo YouCam software from Windows 7 (which includes a couple of webcam related drivers that eliminate an unknown device from the Windows 8 Device Manager.)
I got all that stuff from the separate manufacturers websites.  The only thing we miss is One Key Theatre.  Don't bother installing that or any of the other software or drivers from the Lenovo download page as they either don't work if they install, don't install,. or destabalize the system once installed.
    http://www.alltechtalk.net/forum/thread-fix-lenovo-ideapad-s-touch-sensitive-buttons-on-windows-8
That link is to the instructions regarding the Lenovo Power Management software.  It'll get most of our keyboard buttons working.  The high speed dust blowout fan works with the keyboard button but not from the icon in the new software.  But I found that the software is doing the job of managing the battery just fine.
When you start the Lenovo/Cyberlink YouCam software it'll offer an update to 3.1 and also an offer to upgrade to a newer version.  The Lenovo update is all we need.  It's the free one.
I tried several conexant audio updates.  None work so don't bother.  Microsoft's driver runs the audio fine and if you really want something like the dolby headphone or bass boost stuff their driver has similar sounding features built in to their audio panel speaker properties.  Now, the Windows 7 Lenovo/Conexant driver will install but the on by default dolby enhancements make Windows report that its interfering with things and offers to turn them off.   So it's really not compatible.  None of the newer Conexant Lenovo Windows 8 offerings for their other laptops even with the same chipset are compatible even if one forces a manual install.  They'll crash Windows so don't do it!
The Synaptic driver is actually terrific.  It lets you take advantage of the Windows 8 swiping stuff.  I changed the 2 finger verticle scroll back to the right edge scroll, and bottom edge for horizontal.  That just feels more comfortable on the z560 touchpad.  The Lenovo Windows 8 driver is older than the new and improved one on the Synapic website, which works better.
Okay, the One Key Recovery is also a non-starter unless you set it up as described on another post at the alltechtalk forum.  But i didn't bother because Windows 8 now comes with its own recovery stuff built in.
If you want to upgrade you should uninstall all the stuff listed on Lenovo's Windows 8 Ideapad compatibility page.  But really, just tell the Windows installer to clean install.  You'll be happier.

  • (accidentally solved) Arch not recognized by BIOS

Note: this should've been posted in the "Kernel & Hardware" section, if a moderator could move it, that would be helpful.
I'm creating this thread as a followup to my previous thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151454), because I've discovered the issue here really isn't related to syslinux or GPT at all. Though, in fact, I have no idea what causes this in any capacity.
My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575, the one with the A6-3420M APU, 6GB DDR3/1333, and the discrete Radeon graphics card (disabled in BIOS).
I installed Arch according to the Beginners' Guide. I have installed Arch several times before on 4 different machines, including one really strange and problematic server, so I'm fairly used to some of the normal problems that would arise. However, this one I can't even begin to troubleshoot.
At first, I used a GPT partition table and syslinux bootloader for my installation. The BIOS refused to even boot to the hard disk (yes, it skips it and goes directly to PXE, at the very bottom of the boot order). If I pressed F12 and forced it to boot to the hard drive, there was a momentary flashing cursor, and then the screen would flicker and it would try to boot PXE again.
I figured this was an incompatibility of my BIOS with the GPT partition table; that's not all that uncommon. But here's the interesting (and immensely frustrating) part: I installed Arch with an MS-DOS partition table and did everything all over again. I installed syslinux and ran syslinux-install_update -iam and it installed the bootloader successfully.
The problem persists. I tried both AHCI and "Compatible" SATA modes in BIOS; that's about the only configurable option that has anything to do with it.
I /was/ going to remove the hard drive and try to boot to it from a test motherboard, HOWEVER Lenovo's brilliant engineering made the hard disk absolutely non-removable. Their manual says to remove a single screw and pull on the black tab, in order to pop the disk out. I pulled (quite hard, too) on the flimsy plastic tab, and it did nothing other than bend the metal on the end of the hard drive enclosure. Fantastic.
So, I have really nothing else to troubleshoot here, and it's long past the time I can return this laptop. So other than being out $600, what else can I do?
(Note: I wiped the system restore partition and the Windows 7 installation the day I obtained it. I booted into 7 once to verify that it could boot, but beyond that I did nothing with it.)

Alright this will be a bit of a pain to transcribe, but I'll try.
Some quirks of the initial installation were that genfstab only picked up the root partition and not home or swap so I had to add them... I did so carefully though and I think the fstab file is alright.
I may try grub2 in a bit just to see. It really sucks though if that's the case, I liked syslinux much better. But I'll try. Oh, right fdisk, here...

  • Problem with graphis accelerator

Hello. Apologize in advance for errors in text but I don't speak english very well.
I have Lenovo IdeaPad Z575 and last time I switched on PC game and my notebook declared error, because I haven't graphic accelerator. On Slovak webpages I found that I must have it and that I can download it. I tried to it but when I downloaded what I want and when Installing this program, notebook declared the window "Your computer doesn't satisfy minimal requirements. Can you help me, how I can install the graphic accelerator?

The graphics accelerator is hardware. You need a laptop with discrete graphics to play most games, so either shop for a new laptop, or use your laptop for tasks it was designed to do, which doesn't include gaming.

  • Syslinux & GPT: no boot

I have followed the instructions on the wiki to install syslinux manually and configure it as such, for use with GPT. I received no errors in my configuration, including the 'dd' step. I verified that the boot flag was set and that the syslinux.cfg file contained the correct partition for root. I installed the bootloader to /dev/sda.
I also tried doing it the 'automatic' way (with compensation for GPT, I did install gptfdisk for both methods) with the bash script syslinux-install_update -iam. This also 'succeeded' but I still have no usable bootloader.
Someone please help me out, I have tried both methods multiple times and I still can not boot to my hard drive.
Laptop I'm installing on is a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575, uses BIOS but not EFI.
    TIA.
    - gdea73 -

    syslinux-install_update -iam
will in fact fail at the second step (-a), which is setting the boot flag. Use
    syslinux-install_update -im
instead and just set the Legacy BIOS Bootable bit yourself.
    Edit, as it's nothing important:
DSpider wrote:msthev, it uses the gptfdisk package to set the boot flag. Edit "/usr/sbin/syslinux-install_update" and see for yourself.
Yes, but it will fail if gptfdisk it's not installed, which isn't impossible, since you can set the attribute using gdisk. I had a similarly looking problem and the solution was to omit -a.

  • S10 / S10e drivers and BIOS update interchangeable?

    Hello,
there is the Lenovo Quick Start for Windows XP - IdeaPad S9e and S10e did any S10 user try to install that. For installation it requires at least BIOS version 14CN45tt. Does the BIOS update of the S10e work for the S10 and do all other drivers of the S10e work for the S10?
    Thanks for sharing any experience

I don't think QuickStart will work due to the fact that there's a splashtop on S10e and not S10, and people are still trying to figure a way to get it. Bios update however, is interchangable. I already updated my S10 with S10e's bios. I did see "some" improvements, but a very small margin. Lenovo still needs to fix the fan issue that is haunting more than half of its user.

  • Ideapad Y450 - Vista to Windows 7 upgrade comedy routine

I've looked for information on how to upgrade my y450 (Vista) to Windows 7 but have been unable to find what i am looking for. The lenovo page for Ideapad windows 7 information is a dead link.
What are the steps to install windows 7 on the laptop? The issue here is the app 'one key recovery'. How do I install it so this software will restore to windows 7?
To be honest this website is a trainwreck: dead links, wildly different urls and formatting, and no clear information for customers. I am eligible for the upgrade DVD I have seen mentioned (I think), but am not prepared to go through the ordeal of shipping. Couldn't Lenovo provide us all with information how to deal with this? I would have thought there should be a FAQ for Y series customers wishing to upgrade but I have not found one.
    1. Please advise how to install windows 7 so that I don't have a redundant vista on the HD for recovery. Step-by-step would help as Lenovo have non-standardised the installation with their one-key bloat. I've seen conflicting walkthroughs from randomly confused customers.
    2. Please provide a link for a support package for Y450 users that gives all the  Win7 drivers needed for the massive bloat they force on their customers (one key recovery/dolby buttons/comedy slide functions). Or we have to manually look for each driver?
    3. Please explain how users of computers shipped with Vista can upgrade successfully to Windows 7. (Yes with one key recovery etc working). The goal is to have a fully working computer - not some compromised hybrid of vista and 7. One-key is absolutely useless and an insult if we can't revert to Win7 rather than Vista.
    4. I've seen mention of a mythical CD Lenovo provided for those who had laptops with VIsta shipped in error. Can we *all* not get this software so we can have working systems?
If this information is there and I've missed it I'm sorry. I've spent over an hour looking with no results. Seeing as the first laptop I received had been repartitioned and used by salesmen, and the second shipped with a blown speaker, I'm not too impressed. I've also no idea why my laptop has vista on it rather than windows 7.  - I bought this laptop a week ago.
I hope you can point out that this is all my mistake and that the information is out there. At least then I can get on with things. If they hadn't bothered with one-key recovery (a 'feature' that puts more people off buying the laptop than encourages them to buy it) they would have saved on R&D and made a more successful product. You have to ask yourself wtf they were thinking on this one.
    Please advise.
EDIT : It appears that this recovery system is not supported in Windows 7 (please confirm). If this is the case then do I simply format C and install Win7? I have heard about 'hidden partitions'. Is this hidden recovery partition on C drive and will it be erased by a simple Win7 installation (by following basic installation wizard)?
I just want a clean installation of Windows 7 with no lingering partitions and unused data (namely vista image).
1/ Do i just insert win7 dvd and install with no issues? 2/ Please link driver pack for y450 vista users upgrading to Win7.
    TY.
    Solved!

I'm strictly a ThinkPad user and have never seen an IdeaPad, so I don't have the answers to your questions.  However, in this thread down in the Win 7 board, someone said they had gotten it to work with the RC candidate last summer.

  • IdeaPad Yoga Windows 8.1 OnScreen keyboard does not stay open

    hi
I just bought a new ideapad yoga and upgraded from windows 8 to windows 8.1. Unfortunately, I can't open the onscreen keyboard. After it opens, it immediately closes itself. This problem has also been described here, but wasn't solved:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-tms/ideapad-yoga-13-virtual-keyboard-does...
Is this a known issue? Does this have anything todo with drivers? - What can I do about it?
    Thank you!

Anyone got some tips? How can I contact the Lenovo support otherwise?
I am thinking of selling my Lenovo and buying another (definitely non-Lenovo) device. They always have troubles with their drivers (and have poor support)!! Something like that never happened to my Dell notebooks.
    Thanks.

  • Install optional driver updates from Windows Update for IdeaPad Yoga 13?

Windows Update on IdeaPad Yoga 13 - Windows 8.1 (64-bit) suggests two optional updates:
Conexant - Audio Device - Conexant SmartAudio HD
    10.01.2014
    Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 - Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Intel Corporation Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 software update released in May, 2014
    04.06.2014
Should I install those updates or should I keep the original drivers?
The original drivers from Lenovo "Drivers and software" section (http://support.lenovo.com/de_DE/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032590) seem to be older/outdated:
Conexant Audio Driver for 64-bit Windows
    8.65.3.53 10/22/2013
Integrated Graphics Driver for 64-bit Windows

Intel Video Driver for 64-bit Windows
    10.18.10.3282 10/22/2013

Windows Update has now another update for "Intel Corporation Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1" and still no updates on the Lenovo site.
