Windows 8 on late 2012 27" iMac?

Hi Guys,
I m planning to install windows 8 on my late 2012 27" iMac, i read online that people have over heating issues with their macs when gaming via bootcamp. Is that true & is there any issue i should be worried about? The new slim late 2012 iMacs are suppose to be better in cooling, anyone with these new slim iMacs can give me feedback? are the new iMacs handling the gaming via bootcamp better then the old ones? is there any safety precaution i should take like placing a external usb fan near the iMac? feedback would be great.
Thanks

  • Image Persistence On Late 2012 27" iMacs

    Hi.
I'm currently on my second late 2012, 27" iMac. I returned the first one I bought because of uneven color from top to bottom of the display, as well as a very readable image of my browser's address bar that seemed to not want to vanish from the display against a plain dark gray background every time I closed the browser. It was a persistent image after using the browser for only five minutes. It was pretty bad, and I exchanged the computer for a replacement.
The replacement model is much better. The colors are pretty even, and if I leave a web page open for a long time, the ghost image on the display generally takes about ten minutes to fade completely away, against the plain dark gray background that I've set as my desktop wallpaper. On my previous model, the image of the address bar never really left. It was, like... permanently burned in.
I've read an awful lot in these forums about image persistence, and also the help articles that Apple published on this site about it. I'm aware that Apple acknowledges this as normal behavior for their displays.
I still have a couple of days left, where I can return this replacement unit for another iMac, or get a refund. My question to the community is this: Is what I have now, as good as it gets? I'd hate to take this one back, and exchange it for another that's only the same, or possibly worse.
Mostly, I'm concerned about residual artifacts from desktop wallpapers, recently closed application windows, etc., interfering with accurate perception of, say, a photo that I open to edit or something. It's a little worrisome. I don't plan to use blank wallpaper forever, or wait ten or twenty minutes after browsing the web before proceeding to work on graphics.

Although I don't own a imac from reading these forums I'd have to say what you now have is as good as it gets. So that leaves 2 options.
    Live with it.
Or return it for a refund and move on to some other mac computer or something else.

  • Randomly shutting down late 2012 27" iMac, 3.2 GHz i5 processor.  16 out of 32 GB ram (crucial).  Tried the PRAM and SMC, both did not work.

Hello,  I have a late 2012 27" iMac.  Its a 3.2 GHz i5 processor.  I originally upgraded my ram to 32 GB and was running like a champ for over a year.  Then, it started to randomly turn off no matter what I was doing.  I took it to the apple store and they said it was the ram.  So I ordered 16 GB of ram from Crucial that matched what they said my computer would need. I got it in last week and installed it and it still turns off randomly. I have tried the PRAM and SMC resets and the computer will run like a champ for 15-20 mins then turns off. I would love any help, advice or possible solutions as I am by no means a computer wiz. Thanks in advanced!

Very true - and the tests they do at the store are far better than the AHT. As well, Apple does not tell you where it puts the RAM - they just tell you to add RAM in the empty slots, LOL. Your About this Mac > Memory should show your two modules next to one another (which, as I've decided to "name" them would be slots 1 and 3 as showing from the top as you are looking at it with all the slots facing you (the bottom being towards the bottom of the display). The odd thing (to me) is that the 'about this mac' window still shows the same arrangement even though the modules are now placed vertically. In mine (with two rows of two slots side by side), it shows the OEM RAM in the top and the additional RAM I added on the bottom (which is exactly how the slots are arranged):
And, one more thought - maybe way off - the late 2009/mid 2010/early 2011 iMacs had problems with adding a full complement of third party RAM (they were ok with all OEM or a lesser amount of third party RAM - that is why mine only has 12 GB rather than the supported 16 GB). There were several very lengthy threads about this; I will try to find one of them which I had bookmarked (I can't find my bookmarks in this new iteration here)...

  • Headphone jack not working on brand new late 2012 27" iMac

Just purchased the new late 2012 27" iMac. Have tried 3 pairs of headphones, all work with my iPhone but when plugged into back of iMac, they do not show up in Sound>Output as an option. Only internal speakers and Apple TV.
I have pushed...hard. Not the issue.
Tired changing Audio Midi settings to 32-bit floating. Didn't do anything...
    Any thoughts?
    Thx

    What you did at last?
This is happening to me and I'm very disappointed and frustrated!
Is the first time I tried to use a headphones and the stupid machine doesn't work!
I already reseted PRAM and SMC also updated OS to 10.8.4
    Is a HW problem?
Do I have to go to the store and lost ALL the time I already invested in SW install and file moving from my old laptop?
By the way I can see the light when I unplug the heardphones.
Before some help desk robot asks, YES, I tried 3 pair of phones ALL of them work well in my Vostro 3550, Samsung S3 and in my Nexus 7.
    Some light here please!

  • Mac Mini (late 2012) vs. iMac (mid 2007)

I use my computer primarily for video conversion, internet, iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie (occassionaly...too slow), iWork, Office, various other things but NO Final Cut video editing and intense graphics work.
I've wanted to get a new Mac for quite sometime.  I have an abundance of monitors, mainly HD, just laying around collecting dust, one on a Windows () 8 computer, figured I might just get a Mini.
I have an opportunity to upgrade from a:
    24" iMac 7,1 (mid 2007)
2.4 GHz Intel 2 Core Duo
    4 GB Memory
    ATI Radeon HD 2600
    to a:
    Mac Mini MD387LL/A (late 2012)
    2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB Memory
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    Questions:
    1. % wise, how much faster would it take to convert a video of the same format and length? Significantly?
    2. I use AirParrot to send internet video to my Apple TV, tried looking for it (remember seeing it somewhere), can I see my screen or AirPlay it to AppleTV without having to use a HDMI or AirParrot application.
    3. Will I really see a TREMENDOUS amount of performance from the newer Mini in comparision to my old iMac?
I've read reviews online and have amazing read arguments for and against to the point that my gut is going crazy. Are the benchmarks between the i5 and Core Duo significantly going to reduce my work load.
Please provide some feedback as I truly appreciate it.
    THANKS!

  • Does Adobe Premier Pro CS6 and After Effects CS6 support the graphic found in the new late 2012 27" iMac?

Hi there guys! I´m very, very, VERY close to buy a full configuration iMac (the late 2012 27" model) but I have reed in different forums that Adobe Premier Pro CS6 and other applications from Adobe such as After Effects DO NOT support the graphic cards found in the new iMacs....
    is this true??????
i really wouldn´t understad the logic behid the decission of picking a graphic card that is not supported by one of the leading video editing sofrware used today.... specially when this computer is suppoused to be an Editing Animal....
I hope this rumor is not real..... then I can be just... really happy and get my new desktop computer and work, work, work, work
    thanks for your attention

Hi there Daniel, thanks for paying attention to this subject. Today I got an answer from Larry Jordan from his blog (I believe he is one of the "videoguys" from http://videoguys.com and he said that actually adobe does not support those GPU that we will find in the new late 2012 iMacs. However it seems there is a way to make that work out.....
here is his review on his new iMac, at the very botton you will see comments from people and his answers... one of the last coments is mine regarding this subject, this is what I asked and his answer:
mGabo Jan 18, 2013 08:50Hi there Larry, I reed in your other post on your iMac that Adobe didn´t support the Nvidia graphic cards found in this model, I have been asking in forums about this and people say Adobe does supports them……Do you know if Adobe now works fine with these cards?
Larry Jan 18, 2013 11:10When I contacted Adobe about this a couple months ago, just after the release of the new iMacs, I was told that Adobe did not support the graphics card at that time. There is, however, a workaround, which I’m hoping to write up this weekend.Larry

  • Replace Late 2012 27" iMac stand for Vesa Mount

    Hello
I purchased the Late 2012 27" Vesa iMac as soon as it came out. Now, I'd like to wall mount it and I see that there's a VESA compatible iMac. I don't want to sell my iMac and buy another one with the VESA adapter. Does anyone know if it's possible to take my currrent iMac to an Apple Service Center and have the stand swapped for the vesa adapter?
    Thanks!

Not possible unfortunately as the mount is built into the back of the computer...you will have to come up with another solution or replace the machine. I seriously doubt an Apple Store would perform this upgrade but an AASP might, you need to visit one and discuss it with them.

  • Cannot reinstall OS X on brand new Late 2012 27" iMac

Using either a flash drive or trying to install Mountain Lion from the store I get the same message that informs me that OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer. I would assume they have some sort of custom build for this machine currently but this doesn't make it easy to quickly deploy a new machine with a clean install. I am currently using a recovery disk that I made using recovery disk assistant which will work OK but it still doesn't answer why we are not allowed to install the supported OS from scratch.

The Late 2012 iMac uses a special OS X build that it's not available from the App Store. However, you can erase the disk and reinstall OS X Mountain Lion without any problem. To do it:
    1. Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start into Recovery.
    2. Open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
This issue will be fixed in 10.8.3

  • In anyone experiencing loud fan noise for late 2012 27in iMac

I am getting a rattle sould like fan blades (as opposed to the whoosh of air) on my lat 2012 iMac.  Is anyone else having this issue.  It can be quite distracting.  Could it be a hard drive issue instead?

I have AppleCare cover so I will try to see if they do onsite repair as my nearest store is only about 2 km away.  As I was using the computer last night I heard three incidinces of really loud 'static' noise as well!?!  It went away each time but I managed to record the noise one of the times.  I have included the 'rattle' fan noise also in the links below:

  • Late 2012 i7 iMac not waking up and also finding wifi enabled after I turned it off as I use ethernet

I have a late 2012 i7 3.4 imac with 32 GB ram.  I am finding a perplexing issue and I hope someone may help me out.  I am blessed with the inability to wake my mac up after an overnight sleep intermittently must push power off and then turn on again to reboot.  I noticed since this started that the imac wifi is always turned on when I restart .  i connect via Ethernet (FIOS).  The wifi connection is a extension of my FIOS router wifi.  Will there be any problems with wifi on along with Ethernet connection?  The only software I have on my mac that shows it can work with either connection is CrashPlan.
I have no idea how the wifi enables itself as I do not activate it and the icon in the upper taskbar is an empty triangle usually.  This am it was a triangle filled with black lines and when I checked it was enabled.   Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Yes, folks have gotten refunds even though the TOS says all sales are final. You'll need to contact iTunes Store support and politely make your case that you're just not satisfied with the service.
I've got kind of a radical suggestion, if you want to try it. In cases like you describe a full OS restore, then setting the iPhone up as a new device can fix all these little glitches. It is a lot of trouble, I know, but if you do want to use the service this is one method that should clear it all up for you.
Thank you, it's good to know that Apple does offer refunds.  I want it to work, if it does what I would like the $25 would be more than worth it.
I thought clearing my music and starting up iTunes Match with an empty music library might do the equivalent of a full reset... I can't say I really feel like doing that, and I'm skeptical it would clear up all of the issues I've had (play counts, play lists, album art, data usage when I told it to bloody well not use the data).
    Thanks for the input!

  • New Late 2012/13 iMacs - No DVD/CD drive

    Hi,
does anyone know as the very New Slim iMac ( Late 2012 to date ) does not have a DVD drive anymore, would the Ex.dvd drive you can get for the MB Air work with the iMac ?

Do note that this one is bus-powered and might affect performance. It's also limited WRT to reads and writes:

  • Clean install of Mountain Lion on the late 2012 27" iMac

I used migration assistant to move all my stuff from my late 2009 iMac to my new late 2012 iMac. Now I would rather do a clean install and manually move stuff over. How can I do a clean install when there is no reinstall disk that came with the new iMac?

There's a set of reinstallation tools on another partition of your drive, or your system can download and boot from the tools across the Internet.Take a look here:

  • Installing Windows 8 on late 2012 iMac 3TB SATA Disk

Yes I know installing windows on the new 3TB iMac through bootcamp is not officially supported, but after doing some research it seemed that it was quite possible to do so anyways. Twocanoes seemed to have the best solution for going about this so I gave it a try
    http://blog.twocanoes.com/post/42453643591/bootcamp-on-a-3-tb-fusion-drive
I seem to have run into a problem at the very last step. I successfully created the partitions as above, created a bootable usb with bootcamp on a different mac, and then when I go to select what drive to boot from, my bootable usb shows two different drive options (Windows and EFI). If I select Windows, I can successfully install it on to my partition, but no compatibility drivers seem to be installed with it (internet, graphics, bluetooth). If I boot from the EFI option, I make it to the windows installer, but then receive an error telling me:
"The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
Any help on what I am doing wrong or what I might try will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
In the past, Windows could be installed in PCs with UEFI 2.0, but Windows 8 adds compatibility for EFI 1.x computers. What does it mean? You can install Windows in EFI mode on any Intel-based Mac with a 64-bit processor (Intel Core 2 Duo or newer).
This mode provides a better hardware compatibility for the installer, but it will give you headaches to make it work. For example, a Mac uses a hybrid GPT/MBR table for the hard drive. It uses GPT to start in OS X, and MBR to start in OS X. The problem you have is that a Mac emulates the MBR automatically when you make a partition for Windows in the hard drive, and this is the reason why you can't install Windows in EFI mode on your Mac.
In order to install Windows in EFI mode, you will have to leave some free space in the hard drive, and then, create the Windows partition in the Windows installer, after starting in EFI mode. However, I don't recommend you to do this, because after installation, the compatibility will be worse. You may have Internet working and the graphic card, for example, but Apple won't release updates for it, because it's not considered Boot Camp.
In conclusion, install Windows using the "Windows" option during startup, and wait until Apple releases Boot Camp drivers compatible with Windows 8. EFI mode for Windows provides some great advantages, but Apple doesn't support it at the moment

  • Mac mini late 2012 or imac late 2012?

    2.3 GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7
4gb ram ...later i will upgrade to 8gb

im using mostly: logic, pro tools, many samples and virtual instruments simultaneously
my budjet is maximum 1500 euro
    thank you

Always keep an eye on 'More like this', the column adjacent to your initial post.  You'll often find answers and positive leads to your questions there.
Otherwise, as few people have had the opportunity to really test the new iMac it becomes a question of looking at where the improvements are ... or conversely what facilities have been lost.   In fact this latter point will be of greatest help to you; things like the missing CD/DVD slot and some ports.
I shall go for the mini next time; far more flexible in terms of upgrading.
Lot of reading for you to do.
