Windows 8 out and about

I'm new here - Hello. I have a Microsoft Surface it's a tablet with a removable keyboard and Windows 8. I cannot find anything on BT Home to tell me how to connect to BT FON when I'm out. If I had an Ipad there is an ap to download but nothing for why I've got. I phoned BT but could not make the man understand what I need. All he says id enter your username and password But Where?
I would appreciate some help I have been looking on line for 3 hours K8

you don't need the app it just makes it more convenient.
if you can see btwifi in available networks then try and connect making sure you select bt broadband customer then use your primary btinternet email address and password

The HTC hotspot works fine with everything else I connect to it.
Also - ipad will not connect to my HTC via bluetooth. Again, I can connect to everything else with my HTC other than my ipad.
I have to say this is my first venture into Apple products and I have always wanted to get away from my windows based laptop to get a MacBook, the problems I have had (flash player etc) & continue to have (as above) are putting me right off swapping over. I HATE technology that doesn't work and my ipad has been hard work!

I stated my ipad as being an ipad2, but I now think it is a 3??? It was new Jan this year and is the 64gb retina display version.
I really would like to get to the bottom on this problem wit mobile hotspots as it is sitting on my desk next to me now and I cannot get it to connect to my HTC mobile hotspot!!!! It might be taking a flying lesson soon at this rate!!! Grrrrrrr...........

  • Cannot send mail when out and about

    Hey all
I recently got my Iphone4 and synced it to my mail on my computer. When using my iphone at home it send mail without a problems as it goes through my wifi I have. Internet is virgin media and mail is with windows mail by the way incase its important.
When I am out and about I can recieve email without a problem but cannot send anything at all.
What do I need to do so that I can send mail no matter where I am?
    Thanks
    Ant

It's most likely exactly the same issue. Most ISPs only allow you to use their outgoing email server whilst connected to their internet service.
With a mobile device like an iPhone you won't always be connected to your ISPs internet service. Sometimes it will be your mobile network provider (when on 3G), or on some other WiFi service like a public hotspot in Starbucks or McDonalds.
When you are not connected to your ISPs internet service, you either have to use the SMTP server of the internet provider you are connected to (awkward to keep changing, even if you know it), or you "authenticate" your connection to your ISPs SMTP server (if they allow it) with a username and password so that they can verify it is you who is using their server and not some spammer.
The best way to avoid all this, is to use an email provider that is totally independent of any internet provider and will therefore work from anywhere, regardless of how you are connecting to the internet.
GMail and Apple's own MobileMe offer authenticated SMTP servers that work from anywhere.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB):
    1) Register HRT
Homescreen > Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table > (it does not matter which line is current) > Register Now
    2) Resend Service Books
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your carrier for formal assistance...you are paying for a service that they are not delivering to you...

  • Connecting to WiFi when out and about

    Hello,
I have had my iPod touch for about 2 weeks and I really like it. At home, I have absolutely no problems connecting to WiFi and all of the applications function.
The problem arises when I am out and about. I live in New York City, so there are tons of open connections available nearly everywhere. However, I have only rarely been able to connect to them. Is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance for your help.
    Leanne

Yes it is sorta a hit and miss even when the connection seems to be open and public it still may be set to Mac Addressing which would mean if your Mac Address isn't listed in that Wireless Router it isn't going to let you join the network.
The best luck I have is to find homes that don't have any security at all as most business's and Cafe hotspots are locked and still require a password.

  • Connecting wirelessly when out and about

Forgive my ignorance I am very new to all this. If I am out and about with my iBook and come across a place e.g. coffee shop, which has free wireless internet access, do I have to be a paying subscriber of that service in order to get on the net? Would Airport be the way I would connect? Will it ask me a password or something?
Do they have such wireless access at the Apple Store Regent Street and if so which provider do they use?
    Thanks

If I am out and about with my iBook and come across a place e.g. coffee shop, which has free wireless internet access, do I have to be a paying subscriber of that service in order to get on the net?
That would depend on the network your joining. For example if your walking down Tottenham Court Road and click on your airport icon you may see half a dozen wifi network available to you.
    example
    BT click
    T-mobile in startbucks
there is wifi in cafe nero
You may pick up private networks.
Any way if you choose from the list t-mobile it lets you join then network but the first tine you open your web browser it redirects you to a page where you have to enter your membership details or use a credit card to purchase 1 hour of internet time.
If you choose a private network from the list you may be prompted to enter a wep key or wpa password.
If however you join an open network you may be able to surf the net without entering a password. You can get fre internet in the cafe above foyles bookshop on charing X road.
Do they have such wireless access at the Apple Store Regent Street and if so which provider do they use?
The wifi in the apple store is free and is provided by apple I am not sure which ISP they use. It does not really matter. You can sit in there and use the internet.

  • "Sender address rejected by server" but only when out and about!

    Hi!
My iPhone 3GS has been working fine with sending and receiving emails both via wifi and when I'm out and about.
Now it won't allow me to send emails while I'm out. Can receive them okay and can access the internet, but when I try to send them I get told that the sender address was rejected by the server.
Yet it still works perfectly fine sending and receiving via wifi when I'm home.
I'm using an smtp address attached to my work, port 587. I know nothing technical but can try to give other details if asked.
Spent a while in the Orange shop and didn't get anywhere, any help I would gladly accept!

Yes! It worked! Haven't left the house yet today but managed to send emails with the wifi turned off, which is better than I have been doing.
I had tried putting my username and password in but not the whole email address, had also tried putting my server log in details into those boxes.
Thank you, it really was driving me mad and you saved me having to tediously go through it all on the phone with someone.

  • Will my network provider charge me for useing icloud whilst im out and about?

will my network provider charge me for using icloud whilst im out and about?

If you are out and about and do anything that requires your phone to sync with the iCloud server then yes it will use your cellular data to access the internet.

  • Using wireless out and about

Just wondering - can the mac link onto all the wireless signals available with windows PC's? I use to have a PC and changed over to a PB - around my office I was able to link onto quite a few wireless services but now i only have 2 or 3 locked signals available....
    cheers

At least some access points are configurable to the point that they can turn services off and on for Macintosh compatibility. The company I used to work for installed Cisco access points and we couldn't see them from a Mac until we asked the IT boys about it. When I mentioned it to them, a light went on and they turned the service on, and Voila!

  • 3G not working after ios7 update. Internet connection works with wifi but out and about phone won't conect to the internet via 3G. I've tried resetting the network settings but that doesn't work?

I am not very technically minded and don't know where to start! Any (simple) advice gratefully received.

Settings >> Cellular Data >> Cellular Data Networks
you need to fill in the fields with correct data

  • Broadband access when out and about

I am an Infinity user and FON registered. At my away from home location the BTcoverage map shows three FON users ,all within 100 yards but no nearby Openzones. I am unable to make a connection. Do the other local Fon users have to have their Broadband on in order for me to connect ?
As there are plenty of Talk-Talk sites (but all secured) is there anyway that  I can access through Talk -Talk or another means ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi you can only connect to a FON or OPENZONE site i you are in range of the hub as using suppliers like TT no they do not operate a FON /OPENZONE service you can also log in to any cloud network site free as well the only need to connect is an active BT HUB you have to be able to see the hub signal on your laptop/mobile device to connect to it
