Windows 8 / pen tablet incompatibility

I'm coming from Photoshop CS3 on Win 7, which worked completely fine with my pen tablet (Bosto Kingtee 19MA), up to CS6 in Win 8.1 on a new computer.
The problem is: The pen works in literally every single application on this new system except Photoshop CS6 (not kidding, it even works in games). I'm pretty certain that this is a compatibility issue with a pen driver within Photoshop which is overriding the standard Windows Pen Tablet driver. And I was wanting to know how to disable the Photoshop pen driver and force it to use the standard Windows driver.
Now for specifics:
- Updating the pen tablet driver is not an option. Bosto appears to have no intention of releasing another driver for this tablet model and the existing driver mostly uses resources already in windows for settings, calibration and etc...
- The behavior of the pen in Photoshop is consistently different from the behaviors detailed in the windows settings (and the behaviors in other windows applications), which is why I'm sure that this issue has to do with a setting of some kind in how Photoshop is configured.
- The cursor follows the pen on-screen, but does not respond correctly to contact or the operation of the secondary click button on the pen within only the Photoshop window. I've tried this with a separate mouse unplugged and also plugged-in and there was no change in behavior.
What I've done:
- Reinstalled the pen tablet driver with the latest (dated May 2013)
- Restarted the computer
- Checked the windows pen and tablet settings.
- Verified that those settings are being ignored by Photoshop
- I'm presently avoiding reinstalling Photoshop because it was just installed. The pen driver was installed prior to Photoshop, and reinstalled after. There was no change in functionality.
- I've attempted to update Photoshop but it is reporting that the servers are down.
   - Related: I've manually un-blocked Photoshop from Windows Firewall - and there was no change.
So I'm wondering if there is an update or patch which allows Photoshop to use the standard Windows pen driver (even at the cost of pressure/angle resolution), a config file I can edit to make it look at a different driver, or is there something else I can try.

ISSUE RESOLVED:
For others who may encounter this issue:
These are the steps which I found worked:
1. Search C:\ for "wintab32.dll", this is a Wacom driver packaged with windows (I thought it was the Windows Standard pen driver, but it is not!). You must remove this .dll file for the Bosto Kingtee 19MA tablet to work in Photoshop CS6 in Windows 8 or 8.1.
Also: There are two instances of this file in windows! Be sure to only remove the one in Wow64, not the one in the System32 directory. (I'm using a 64 bit OS, and       I'm not going to make any assumptions about this situation in a 32 bit environment.)
2. Run the TouchPanel Bosto driver installer again, this replaces the Wintab driver... apparently somehow...
3. Manually Install the following updates for CS6: (do not use the Application Manager, it doesn't seem to catch these updates (on my system at least))
(Starting from the bottom with 13.0.1.1 and going up in order by date)
Adobe Photoshop 13.0.1.3 update for CS6
26.2MB
11/7/2013
Adobe Photoshop 13.0.1.2 update for CS6
26.1MB
6/3/2013
Dynamic Link Media Server 1.0.1 Update for Windows
36.5MB
10/8/2012
Adobe Photoshop 13.0.1.1 update for Adobe Photoshop CS6
22.6MB
9/27/2012
4. Restart Computer after the 13.0.1.1 update per the dialogue box's request.
5. After the 13.0.1.3 update is installed, the Bosto tablet should be working in Photoshop and Win 8.1!
Important Note:
Pressure sensitivity-controlled brush size might not work particularly well, HOWEVER the pen input appears sufficiently functional enough for applications such line work and basic tap-equivalent-to-left-mouse-click functions (which is all I need it to do anyway). There may be some other settings pertaining to pressure gradients, but at this point I'm just glad to have this input tool back!

  • Windows 8 Tablet / Touchscreen - On Screen Keyboard shortcut missing on Desktop

    Hi
On a windows 7 tablet, on the desktop, if I clicked a field (e.g. in Windows Explorer) a small keyboard icon appears with a shortcut to the on-screen-keyboard (OSK).
On windows 8, this no longer appears. Instead you have to click the field, then select the OSK from the taskbar, and then click back in the field before typing.
    Technical Stuff:
So far we've found that in Windows 8 there is no 'Options' window for the Input Keyboard in the Taskbar. In Windows 7 there WAS an 'Options' window which included the setting "For tablet pen input, show the icon next to the text box". This setting controlled
the shortcut icon that appears when you click in a field, and changes the following setting in the registry: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\TabletTip\1.7\ShowIPTipTarget. This setting does not appear in the registry on a Windows 8 machine and adding it in makes no
    difference.
    Rant:
Within 5 minutes of issuing a new Windows 8 tablet this problem was noticed by the end user, rendering the device almost useless if you want to work at any pace - and it was promptly handed back. Very frustrating and annoying as this feature appears
to have been removed. With Windows 8 pitched directly at the tablet market, surely this setting is in there somewhere - I can't think of any reason why it would be removed.
    Any help much appreciated,
    Andrew

I fully agree with ssxIdent and all other posters who find the new touch keyboard rather dumb.
There is no point in explaining why MS has decided to do things this or that way and what philosophic reasons they can come up with. MS needs to understand that software has to be accepted by the users and should not irritate them.
    But this is irritating.
I thought one of the main concerns of MS was to be as intuitive as possible and provide a most satisfying user experiance - this is definetly not.
Has anyone at MS ever tried to e. g. rename several files in a directory with the touch keyboard? Especially when you get to the bottom of the screen. Then you not only need to have show/hide the keyboard permanently, you even have to bother moving it or
resize the window. That is NO GOOD USER EXPERIANCE!
I'd find it intuitive, if there was a way for developers in WPF or in Windows Forms to tag any UI element if it
Needs a keyboard (making the touch keyboard appear automatically) or
Would like a keyboard (showing a symbol next to the box, just like the X in WindowsStoreApps.TextBox, to trigger the keyboard or make it pop up automatically, if the keyboard had an option that can be set by the user to respond to these UI elements) or
Can have a keyboard (behaviour as is now)
Once an application was built this way, users would intuitively be able to navigate through their beloved apps haveing the keyboard at hand when they will need it anyway, being able to access it just with a twitch of the hand if they want it and not being
annoyed by it when they normally would not need it AND not being annoyed by permanently having to show/hide/show/hide that dratted thing by making miles of hand movement for nothing.
For applications that are not tailormade this way some options to adjust the keyboard behaviour would help, too. Just provide an option to hook the keyboard to any focus change, and give users a selection of options to what major control types the keyboard
should respond. For geeks you could even provide white list where they can add the GUIDs for classes the keyboard should show up automatically, a black list where the keyboard has to disappear and a gray list where the keyboard comes up on enter and disappears
    on leave.
Some other thing I'm not happy with:
I know Modern UI came somehow via Windows Phone 7, but our tablets, touch enabled laptops, ... are no telephones, so why has the touch keyboard numpad have the "1" at the top left corner and not at the bottom left like every other hardware keyboard
or even the MS Windows OSK???????? In this point I contradict the explanation in the otherwise quite interesting article about the
Design Concept because typing in numbers has more often to do with maths than with telephoning or switching TV channels. And calculators have the 1,2,3 in the bottom row, as have HW keyboards. The other misconception lies therin that you don't need to find
1,2,3 quicker with your eyes when you are typing lots of numbers e. g. into spreadsheets. The fingers of HW keyboard, calculator or cash register users are so used to the conventional position of the digits that won't be easy to reshape. Additionally when
typing in quantities of numbers right handed users (90% of world population)  will have the hand rest on the keyboard, the thumb on 0 and index finger, middle finger, ring finger doing their respective columns low value low down, high value high up. Who
is dialing phone numbers or changing TV channels this way? But what will users do more often with the numpad - especially when dealing with loads of input data?
Why can we not at least have digits on the alpha keyboard like on Android with long press on "Q"="1" ... "P"="0"? Password policy sometimes forces you to add digits in a PW, calling for switch alpha/num/alpha/num which
is annoying, too! Even with the peek thingy, since you need two hands.
Why is there no indication what special characters are hidden behind a long press? It's possible when you press Ctrl, despite most people already knowing what Ctrl+C means. e. g. where is the paragraph sign "§"on the touch keyboard? Or have
you left it out, so lawyers can't sue you for developing this touch keyboard ;-) You have added a set of emojos, but forgotten to put a character on that is on virtually any other keyboard??? Rather give us a layer user/developers could fill with their own
set of special characters and swap the Ctrl hints for a special character preview.
When I have my keyboard docked I can split the alpha key gaining access to the ODD numpad in the middle, but why can I not have the numpad when the alpha stays unsplit in the middle having a big black block to its left and right - there was space, why have
you not used it properly??? Nevermind feeling crowded, as mentioned in the article, give us an checkbox in keyboard options than we can decide if we want it or not. Since the article argues that users tend to get comfortable with the keyboard after a while
and needn't look at it, this "over crowded" feeling would fade away just the same. Or you might even dim it a bit when there is no finger near it.
Where are the Fn keys? Give us an option - we'll decide if we want it e. g. on the left side of the alpha block. Just as with numpad this could be dimmed, too.
I'd have a lot more suggestions to throw into this, but I fear you'll not even pick up on the easiest or most fundamental ones.
Prove me wrong! Please do! I dare you!!!

  • Troubleshoot using wacom cintiq 21ux pen tablet with Photoshop cs5

    Hello to all.
got my new Cintiq 21ux today. ! its my first pen tablet and i really love it !
i worked it perfectly on my photoshop cs4 and after watching some videos and reading articles i decided to upgrade to CS5 and that is when all the problem started.
long story short it seems like every time i open photoshop CS5 my wacom keyboard shortcuts and the pen calibration feat' vanish like i never did them and i need to re do them again from scratch.
to be more percise with my broblem:
I spent about an hour fixing the all the keyboard shourcuts on the Wacom "Tablet Properties Shortcut" menu (from the control panel) and i calibrated the pen.
after installing photoshop CS5 I lunched it and when i grabe my pen to try and work in the cs5 i got a messeage "Pen display tablet calibration reminder". i got the same message when i used the tablet for the first time and to my suprise when i went to the "Wacom Tablet Properties" menu - all the shortcuts i made disapper as i have never done them....
I maid a new keyboard shortcuts for the photoshop cs5 and closed the "Wacom Tablet Properties" menu. i opend it again just to make sure that the shortcuts had been saved and they had.
i opend the photoshop cs5 for the seconed time and when i moved my pen close to the tablet i got again the pop up window with the messeage "Pen display tablet calibration reminder".
needless to say - all my keyboard shortcut vanished again as never been maid.
i am using a strong pc computer with windows 7 and i have i downloaded and installed the latest cintiq wacom driver - the 6.1.5-3 driver version.
    thx in advance @
    Pini

  • Elements 7 - Where are my pen tablet options???

    Hi.
I use a Wacom Bamboo pen tablet for editing my pictures on my Notebook. OS is Windows Vista Home Premium. In the editor of PSE 5 I always could adjust tablet-options (for the brush tool for example). Now that I updatet to PSE 7 these tablet options seem to have gone. There's nothing there to click on in the options-bar of the brushtool to get access to the tablet-options.
The tablet itself is working just fine. For some days I had PSE 5 and PSE 7 installed parallel, and in the editor of PSE 5 the tablet-options were editable - just like they should.
To make sure the problem didn't arise from he parallel installation of PSE 5 and PSE 7 or an old driver, I deinstalled PSE 5 AND 7, reinstalled PSE 7 and updated the driver of the pen tablet. Didn't solve anything.
Is there some general option that has to be activated, to get access to the tabletoptions or is this a known problem?
I would appreciate any hint. Thanks.
By the way: If there are typos or other mistakes in this posting I apologize. English isn't my mothertongue. But I hope, I could make my problem understandable.
    Greetings, Jörg

OMG. Sometimes it would just help to open the eyes and to try each and every graphic element before calling for help...
This is really one of these Homer Simpson "D'Oh"-Moments. I did see this arrow, but though it would belong to the icon on its left as an indicator of a dropdown-menu. That's why I didn't try it.
Thank you very much for your help!

  • Need help for a problem with Wacom Bamboo Pen tablet and LR5

When using the advanced spor removal tool in LR5 using the pen of a Bamboo tablet it only goes in straight lines and reacts very sluggish!
When I use finger input on the same tablet (usingit then as a touchpad), the tool behaves normally and very responsive. If I go in any direction or try to paint an area it just follow and updates instanlty.
Is it an LR5 bug or problem with the pen tablet drives?!
I'm running a core i7 Thinkpad, 8 gigs of RAM.. Windows 8.1 Pro..

  • Pen tablet data acquisition

I would like to acquire field data in a harsh (outdoors, dusty, vibration) environment via pcmcia DAQcard with a more convenient, handheld unit. Currently I use a laptop computer; however, the clamshell structure makes this difficult to handle. I thought a pocket pc or a pen table running windows 2000, 98 etc. would enable me to run Labview and use my existing DAQcard. I need to sample data at 5kHz. Any suggestions on a rugged pen tablet, pocket pc, or other approach that might work for me?

    Hello;
You always have the option of using the PXI platform to do the acquisition.
That platform is specially designed to work under harsh conditions.

  • How to activate a pen tablet on photoshop on a All-in-one computer [touch screen]?

I have a all in one computer touch screen- and I can use a pen tablet right on the screen, it's active- but when I go on PSCS6 and try to use the pen tablet, it is not active onto the screen- where do you go to activate it?? Can you?

That is the question I asked you.  I think you will find that your display only functions as a touch device.   My old Wacom Intuos 3 Tablet was just a tablet device.  My new Intuos 5 Touch is both a Tablet and touch device. When the pen is in close proximity with the tablet surface touch is turned of and it functions as a tablet.  The Wacom device driver has some Touch functions the can be configured to work with Photoshop.  I could configure touch so I could finger paint in Photoshop. Photoshop does not have its own touch support and touch settings.   If you can find a device driver for your displays touch feature that use wintab api. to support a pen interface you may have a chance,

For some reason photoshop CC doesn't respond to the right mouse button that is on my tablet pen.
It's strange because it does work for illustrator CC, so why would photoshop CC not respond to it?
    Anyhow, help please!

My daughters each received a Dell Venue 8 Pro (windows based) tablet for Christmas. I was told that the iTunes apps and games can be transferred to this tablet. I am having trouble doing this. Welcome to Apple Support Communities
That's normal. You can use your Windows tablets with Windows 8.1 to store your device data with iTunes, but you cannot use iPhone and iPad apps. They are designed to run only in iPhones, iPads and iPods touch with iOS, not in computers

An app for Windows 8 or Windows Phone 8 does not exist.  I have asked Verizon about this a number of times and have been ignored.  The only positive of this is that the Android and IOS apps are all buggy, so it's highly likely that we're only missing out on another buggy app for the Windows platforms.

  • Adobe Reader form in Windows 8 Tablet

I created a fill-n-able form in Acrobat Pro X, made it Reader Enabled and uploaded it to a Windows 8 tablet. The Sign, Place Signature feature only offers the end user  the ability to use a digital, certified signature. The Draw Signature option is greyed out. Any thoughts on how to enable "Draw My Signature" in the Reader on a Windows 8 tablet?

I understand. There has always been differences between the behavior of the desktop and mobile versions or Adobe Reader and necessarily always will be. The ability to add a hand-drawn signature with the desktop versions was added as an EchoSign feature. When the "Done Signing" button is clicked, any text, signature, and other annotations that were added get flattened, which removes the form fields, leaving just their appearances behind. With an enabled form, the pencil tool can be used to add a hand-drawn signature, but it won't get flattened when saved. A stamp could also be used, but they'd have to install a custom stamp. Signatures placed using the EchoSign "Place Signature" method are added as stamps.

  • Is there a Graphic Pen Tablet that...

Is there a Graphic Pen Tablet that you don't move around by hovering the tip of the pen over the surface? I had one that I did not like that you had to hover the tip over the surface. Touching the surface was only for pressure brushes. Is there a tablet where you can just drag the tip of the pen on the surface to move it around? I find this much more precise.

I don't know of any tablet where you can't touch the pen to the surface. What tablet did you use that you were told, or thought, that you had to hover the pen above the surface of the tablet? Perhaps the pressure sensitivity was just set too high or something was wrong with the tablet.
Wacom tablets are generally felt to be of very high quality and are the ones I encounter most frequently.

  • Cinema LED 24" and Cintiq pen tablet same time connection???

Does anybody tryed to connect LED sinema display (via mini-display port and one USB), and active graphic pen tablet (Wacom Cintiq) as second display simultaneously?? Both devices required DVI or mini-display, how to separate a data signal to different monitors?? My application - retouch in Photoshop CS4, thanks in advance!

For what you want to do, it is not possible through one mini-display/dvi port as the graphics card can only handle 1 output at a time. Check out this little device. It'll turn one usb port into an average quality video output. I have my second Cinema display running off one of these. I wouldn't recommend playing games or anything on these though because the output frame rate is much too low. Check it out.
