Windows 8 Pro + Bitlocker lonely on a MacBook via Bootcamp

Hello
After some digging I was not able to found the answer neither via Google nor in some forums I looked into. So perhaps somebody out here knows an answer.
I have a MacBook Alu Unibody late 2008 (MacBook5,1), that I do not use anymore. So to pass it to my wife, and as a experiment, I decided to install Windows 8 Pro on it as the only OS (i.e. no Mac OS/X on it).
The installation went fine and except for the longer boot time Windows 8 Pro runs very well on it, especially after I installed BootCamp 5.
Now my problem is with the Bitlocker feature.
I enabled the possibility to use BitLocker without TPM. I tried to activate BitLocker for my drive C:. I entered a password for the drive, and print out the recovery key. Windows restarted the MacBook to test if the drive could be encrypted and will be usable afterards,
However after it comes back and I logged in again and switched to the desktop, Bitlocker told me that it   couldn't encrypt my drive C: due to some problem with TPM. I suspect the boot process on a MacBook as the culprit. But I do not know for sure ...
So in the end my drive C: is still unencrypted.
So my question here, did somebody successfully installed a Windows 8 Pro as only OS on a Mac and was able to encrypt the system drive? If yes, how did you do this?
Thanks for any hint, and
Best Regards,
chi.

Yes, but I used Truecrypt as Bitlocker wold not work.

I have installed Windows 7 via bootcamp with success. However I didn't give enough hard drive space to Bootcamp (only 6MB available! Whoops...) Can I just delete the Boot Camp partition and start again or is it more complicated?
    Thanks for any help!

  • Can Macbook pro 2012 with GT650M support 3d vision via bootcamp

can Macbook pro 2012 with GT650M support 3dvision via bootcamp
For sure GT650 is 3d vision supported, but anyone ever made test that you
can watch 3d movie via windows under bootcamp on new macbook pro
    Thanks..

After updating NVidia driver newer than 267.76,
I got black screen after Windows Logo shown during reboot.
    After countless annoying tests,
I installed the newest NVidia 285.79 driver without problem finally.
    My original prefered display configuration:
link the primary monitor with HDMI port
I already followed the GeForce Driver Installation Guide, step by step,
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=169555
but there's still black screen after reboot.
THEN, I TRIED TO USE mini-DISPLAY PORT INSTEAD AND REBOOT AGAIN,
video signal was connected to my DELL 2707W(only DVI port)
by MiniDP to HDMI adapter/HDMI-DVI cable.
The display is NORMAL NOW !!
    Root Cause assumption:
Maybe the driver newer than 267.76 always regard miniDP as primary signal output port,
even if you set the HDMI port as primary.
I think this is a serious bug, but no solution after mote than 30 driver updating.
The following configuration worked on my Mac mini 2010 system:
    mini─miniDP to HDMI adapter─
    HDMI cable to HDMI splitter─┬HDMI-DVI cable─Dell 2707
                                                  └HDMI cable─ 3D projector
but I found that the configuration can't play 3D video...
So I changed the configuration to:
    Mac─miniDP to HDMI adapter─HDMI-DVI cable─Dell 2707
          └HDMI cable─ 3D projector
    For your reference.

  • Deleted Windows via bootcamp, but Launchpad still shows the windows apps. Why?

I had Windows 7 installed on my 2008 Macbook Pro, but after deleting the partition via Bootcamp some time ago, the Windows apps still appear in Launchpad. I'm wondering whether this indicates that there is something of Windows still present on my hard drive? Because I'd rather it not be there, at least for the reason that it absolutely clutters up my Launchpad app selection.
Something to mention is that I used to have a trial copy of Parallels installed on this computer, but I deleted it before I deleted my Windows partition. Hence, the apps are visible within the Mac OS.
This link shows a screenshot image of Launchpad, which shows what I see in Launchpad. I daresay that this is related to something Parallels left on my computer, but if anyone can give any idea as to what I should do, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Okay...had a breakthrough! I went to my Applications folder, but not the regular one, the one found in HD/Users/Me/Applications. There was a folder called "My Boot Camp Applications". I was like whaaaat? So I looked inside, and all the applications I was concerned about were there. I deleted them...and all's good. I'm confused, but relieved. I'm guessing that they were just isolated apps that weren't connected with anything, as I had deleted the Bootcamp partition. So, it looks like things are resolved for the time being...let's hope things don't explode!
I thought I'd put message out there before I rebooted, in case I couldn't after for whatever reason...
Thanks heaps for your help everyone, I really appreciate the helpfulness and willingness of the community. Bravo to you all.
    All the best,

  • Installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp on Snow Leopard.  No Disc Drive.

    Hi all,
I have a White macbook late 2006 model.  The superdrive in it has failed and I'm trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp.  I downloaded an open source app called rEFit that allows me to boot to a usb drive.  I created the boot camp partition using boot camp and I chose the Quit and Install Later option on boot camp. BTW I have Mac OSX 10.6.8 using Boot Camp 3.0.4.  I restart and go to boot to the usb drive and it gives me the no bootable drive error.  The usb drive was created as a bootable usb drive using a macbook air using an windows 7 iso in boot camp.  Does anyone know anyway that I can get windows 7 installed on this macbook via bootcamp.  Virtualization software (ie VMware Fusion, Parallels, etc) is not an option (CS 6 will slow the computer to a halt if I attempt to run it in virtual machine of windows).  Any and all help will be appreciated.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner....Hurricane Irene knocked out all our power
The initial install (at least for most of the reboots) does correctly reboot to Windows. However, towards the end of the Windows setup, where Windows is fully functional but is configuring itself, you may accidentally boot into OS X. Once you get Apple's Boot Camp drivers installed, you can set the target disk for a reboot, so that you don't need to hold down alt/option. In addition, you can also set the target disk in Lion via System_Preferences>System>Startup_Disk.
Unfortunately, the excellent boot manager rEFIt doesn't work with Lion (because of the hidden partition that Lion adds). Maybe they'll get it working soon, then you can use it and not worry about holding down alt all the time.

  • Can I install windows 7 to an external USB 3.0 drive via bootcamp?

with the new airport extremes supporting USB 3.0, can I install windows 7 to an external USB drive via bootcamp?
i'm not willing to sacrafice any of the limited space on the SSD, but i'm very willing to get a good performing USB 3 drive, and use it as necessary with windows.
if this wouldn't work via bootcamp, can it be done on a windows PC and plugged in subsequent to the install to work on the road?

Installing Windows on an external drive is not supported.

Note: These types of discs or activities are not supported by DVD or CD sharing:

There is no need for anyone to use 32-bit version anymore.
Retail comes with both. Or you can save on just buying 64-bit System Builder disc.
Better support for today's hardware with larger video graphic memory and systems.
    Better memory management.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • Problem installing Windows 8 via Bootcamp on MacBook Pro 13 (late 2009).

    Hello,
I've installed Windows 8 Pro on my MacBook Pro 13 (Late 2009) which does not support Windows 8. I've started installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp, then interupted the installation and pluged-in the Windows 8 Disk, and after formating the partition, I've installed Windows 8 64-Bit.
Here is the problem. The Windows works fine, BUT after restart when I hold 'Alt' and choose EFI Boot (Windows 8's partition), Windows 8 starts loading but then suddenly there is a white flash and it restarts again. So after shut down or restart I cannot boot it.
Do you think that this is because I do not have Bootcamp installed on the Windows 8?
I've downloaded the supported software for Windows 8, but when I click setup.exe, it is giving me the following error:
This version of Bootcamp is not intended for this computer model. I've been trying to install it for more than 78 hours, so I'll be extremely gratefull to whoever help me. Thank you in advance.
P.S. Mac OS X partition boots fine.

If it is really not possible, I get it. But there are plenty of people that are running Windows 8 on the same model, that is powerfull enough to run Win 8. I'm actually running it, but until shut down or restart . Can't I edit Info.plst file alternative for Windows 8 like I did to allow BootCamp to image burn my USB on my model? I mean my model is same as the next one. I can't see why the drivers for mid 2010, won''t work on mine...

    I can see three volumes
The Maverick volume (When I select it it launches maverick)

    My USB volume called windows
When I select my windows volume it says no bootable device -- insert boot disk
    What can I do ?
    Thanks

    Lilly,
since you just got your new MacBook Pro, at this point I’d recommend making an appointment at an Apple store to show them what’s happening when you run Boot Camp Assistant. Be sure to take your Windows 7 disc and your USB SuperDrive with you, so you can show them how it currently behaves. Please include in your reply whether they were able to resolve the problem, and if so, how they did it, so that future readers of this discussion can benefit from your experience.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 problem with windows via bootcamp

I have macbook pro early 2011  and my disk drive not working.
I tried to install windows via bootcamp by an external disk drive but it failed to boot from the windows install disk.
    how can i install it?

The Snow Leopard Windows drivers are on your Snow Leopard install disk. There is no download for Windows drivers and Snow Leopard.
You should include your computer model and year in your posts. Answers may vary depending on your hardware.
XP is not supported on newer Apple computers. You should install Windows 7.

    Hi,
I wanted to see how windows work on my macbook pro. Before buying the windows licence, I would like to see how it performs. I am particularly interested in gaming via windows.
Is it possible to install trial version of windows via bootcamp on macbook pro (2014)?

Windows 8.1 drivers should work for Windows 10 TP.
There is no official support for W10. Please see Boot Camp: System requirements for Microsoft Windows operating systems - Apple Support.

  • Can I install windows xp via bootcamp onto my macbook pro 15"? The XP in question is an "OEM" disk but it is NOT branded to any computer brand i.e Dell. Thanks.

Will XP be ok to use via bootcamp?
Does it matter if it's OEM?

Technically it's Lion Boot Camp Assistant doesn't support XP, it is after all 11 years old, and is a booger Microsoft is even trying to flick off with hardly much success.
    http://www.itworld.com/windows/266924/clock-ticking-xp-time-start-os-migration
The hardware in question, almost invariably will run Windows XP OK. There might even be XP video drivers for this laptop, etc. but not the easy collection of drivers for XP specifically for this Macbook. The OP would  have to track down the drivers manually. But it is possible to shrink the Mac HD volume, boot a Windows XP disk directly and have it format and install on the free space created. But it's a guess how much of a rabbit hole it is to track down XP specific drivers for this brand new hardware.
But that's the alternative to "Buy Windows 7". Of course, you can run XP in a Virtual Machine, on Lion, however.
