  • Unable to copy music from Mac to Windows PC using Home Sharing on iTunes 12

    Hi all,
I use both a Macbook Pro and a Windows PC.  I am trying to copy music from my Macbook Pro onto my PC within iTunes 12 using HomeSharing but seem to be unable to do this.
When I connect to the Mac library on the PC, I can play the tracks without any issue.  But when I try to drag the song to the side to copy to the PC , nothing happens.  I don't get the window that should pop up on the left of the screen and there is no option for Import at the bottom of the screen either.
I am however able to copy music from the PC to the Mac without an issue.  The window pops up on the left when I drag the track within my Mac, and the Import button shows up on the bottom of the screen.  It is only when I want to copy from the Mac to the PC.
I have checked the Sharing tab in preferences, and on both systems it is enabled.  I tried disabling and then re-enabling.
I am also unable to using the download Purchased items in iTunes, as my Mac and PC are connected to different iTunes accounts.  Both machines are authorised to play both accounts though.
    Any advice?

  • Windows 7 iTunes Home Sharing or AirPlay not working? - Checkpoint

Wanted to share this for anyone else who ends up searching, as it took me a couple days to track it down.  Both Home Sharing and AirPlay stopped working when I upgraded iTunes to 10.2.2, they were both working with 10.1.x.  I tried a number of things, including downgrading, factory reset on my router, etc. and finally tracked it down to my Checkpoint VPN.  Don't know why the problem didn't exist while I was on 10.1, but regardless removing Checkpoint fixed my issue.  Note that I didn't need to be connected to anything via Checkpoint, just having it installed was enough.

I tried re-installing again and did a restart and it seems to be working again.

  • TS2972 Windows 8 and home sharing on itunes 11?

Hello, I just got a new windows 8 laptop and downloaded iTunes. I authorized my computer for home sharing since I had an old windows 7 laptop but none of my music is coming or transferring between computers. Any ideas what I need to do to get all of my music from my old computer to my new computer? The troubleshooting page doesn't help at all.

OK, tried everything and finally found a suggestion on another forum to disable IPv6
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852
There is a Fix It app from MS that will do it for you. So far it is working, Home Sharing is back as well as the Apple TV 1st Gen which was also gone. But not before I rolled back to iTunes 10 and now I'm having Library error issues with my iOS devices, I hope I had found this solution before
Bottom lines is that iTunes for Windows appears not to be designed or certified to work well on IPv6. Good that IPv6 won't become the sole standard for many years, although roll out just began

  • Can I transfer itunes library to mac from Windows PC via Home Sharing?

I'm trying to transfer my itunes library from my Windows PC to my Macbook via Home Sharing. I followed all the steps in the KB and everything was looking fine, but I can't get the import button to enable, if there something that won't allow this from a Windows PC?

Yes, no.  You can transfer your media files with Home Sharing but your library is more than media files.  It's your playlists, ratings, playcount, etc.  To transfer that:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168
Windows users see tip at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18879381
If you put it in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • No Home Sharing since iTunes 10.6.1 (Windows 7)

I figured I'd start a new thread for people like me who had their Home Sharing BREAK since upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1 (it was working ok with 10.5, but I had that non-alphabetical bug with TV Shows on the AppleTV).  I have:
    Windows 7 (64-bit)
    iTunes 10.6.1
    iPhone 4
    iPhone 4S
    iPad 1 (x2)
    iPad 3
    AppleTV 2 (x2)
    AppleTV 3 (x1)
The problem is across devices.  In order to fix, I have to go down to my Windows PC and turn off Home Sharing, then turn it back on.
I've tried turning of IPv6 on my network settings, to no avail.  I've tried resetting my AppleTV - no help.  The only thing left to do is completely uninstall all Apple products and reinstall from scratch.  Anyone have a guide on how to do this?  I don't want to lose my playlists or playcounts.  HELP APPLE!  This needs to be addressed!

    Hello all,
Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads we have two major problems:
    - Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
    - streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
    - iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
    - second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
    - third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
    - fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
    - all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
    - 2 Apple TV second generation
    - 1 Apple TV first generation
    - 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
    - 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.

  • Home Sharing Loading Forever and Windows 8

So I thought I'd leave this here since I scoured this site via Google for answers and couldn't find anything that helped.
I could not get iTunes Home Sharing to work on my Windows 8 PC (64-bit) in the last few months. My AppleTV would just sit there and attempt to load the video file forever, making very little progress (if any). I knew the movies played previously and if I loaded them on my wife's MacBook Pro, they'd play fine over AirPlay (something my Windows 8 PC couldn't do either). The AppleTV could see my Home Share (via the Computers app) and my iTunes could see my AppleTV (the airplay icon was visible). My AppleTV could also stream just fine from Netflix, the iTunes Store, and it could do mirroring from iPhones and a MacBook just fine as well. I tried turning Home Sharing on and off. I did both kinds of resets (settings and factory). I unplugged it form the wall. Still no luck. From all this, I could tell my AppleTV was not the issue.
I disabled Windows Firewall (after attempting to clear every possible port iTunes might use through the rules). I added every process to Windows Defender. I disabled IPv6 via Network Settings and the Registry. I made sure Bonjour was enabled (after disabling it and re-enabling it). I checked that iTunes was completely updated (along with the AppleTV). I had every update for Windows 8 installed. I tried older versions of iTunes without luck. I tried turning on and off Home Sharing. I changed the name of my computer. I changed the name of my iTunes library.
I went back to every hardware change I'd made recently. I tried my older wifi usb dongle. No luck. I zeroed in on my new ASUS RT-AC56U router as a possible culprit. I updated its firmware. I changed the network names. I disabled any QoS it may have had running along with any firewalls or protections. I even tried a custom Merlin firmware that others here had suggested made everything work again. I tried running on 2.4 GHz and then 5 GHz, then with one disabled and then the other. I eventually got a family member to let me borrow an Apple Airport Extreme to test with and I still couldn't get any Home Sharing streaming to work. At that point, I had pretty much ruled out any networking hardware as the cause.
So that left something still causing hangups on my Windows 8 PC. It really left me with no other choice aside from attempting a clean install of Windows. All my music, iTunes movies, and iTunes TV shows were on separate hard drives so I bit the bullet and wiped my system drive clean. However, it still wasn't working upon re-installing Windows 8 and the newest version of iTunes.
The only thing I could figure at this point was that I had upgraded to Windows 8 (from 7) sometime last fall. So maybe Windows 8 itself was the culprit?  I knew that Home Sharing was working when I first installed Windows 8. I can't recall exactly when nothing would play but I definitely know that I was able to do Home Sharing streaming initially. But it did get progressively worse since then. Movies would play for half their length and then stop to load. Eventually, nothing would load. But when I tried previous versions of iTunes, I still couldn't get Home Sharing to work. So something deep in Windows 8 had changed that iTunes hasn't adjusted for yet and was preventing Home Sharing from working.
So I did the last thing available to me: I dug out an old copy of Windows 7 and did a wipe and clean install. Lo and behold: Home Sharing is working right off the bat. Very short load times, I could skip ahead, Airplay and Home Sharing working as intended. I went back and re-added everything piece by piece to make sure none of them were going to set me back with video playback.
-Switched out the Airport Extreme for my own router (after setting it up like new...again). My test videos still played! Check.
-Went back to my newer USB wifi dongle. Check.
-Added more non-HD videos to the Home Share. Check.
-Added 720p HD videos to the Home Share. Check.
-Added 1080p videos to the Home Share. Check.
-Windows Firewall is currently active but I'm still Home Sharing just fine.
I'm back up and running on Windows 7 and Home Sharing is working just like I remembered it. I know this isn't much solace to anyone encountering this and trying every fix imaginable from Google. I know I didn't want to flatten and re-install my OS (in fact, downgrading it) to get it working. But something with how recent iTunes or Windows updates are interacting were just completely ruining my home watching experience. It's just so bizarre that it worked in Windows 8 at first but then progressively got worse. And a fresh install of Windows 8 and iTunes didn't set it back to the way it was. It has to be some recent changes between the two that interfered with the process and that neither company has addressed it yet.
I know this will probably get buried among the thousands of other help threads but I hope it does manage to assist someone in getting a better handle on this problem should they face it. And maybe someone from Apple will take another look at Home Sharing in iTunes for Windows 8.

In case anyone is interested, last night I installed Paralells, Windows, Overdrive Media Console on Windows, and then was able to download my book in WMA format. I was hoping parallels would allow me to crossover sync to iTunes on the Mac and have Overdrive recognize that I had iTunes open, but I had to choose Windows or Mac when connecting my phone through the USB and had to choose Windows in order for it to successfully transfer. I was able to get it to work it is now synced to iTunes in Windows. The nice thing was that it pulled in all my music/apps that I had set up in the Mac side, so I didn't have to go through that exercise again. I tested it on my old phone. Now I need to decide if I want to set up my current phone on Windows or Mac, it seems that once synched it only opens the device in windows, I haven't figured out how to force the choice between mac or window again. If I do windows, I can't take advantage of the cloud or iphoto/imovie directly. I'm totally new to mac, but I think I'll have to import my photos manually.

  • Mac won't connect to Windows when trying to use Home Sharing

Hi, I'm having trouble with my Home Sharing on iTunes.
I recently got a new Macbook Pro - it's all up to date and I'm also running the latest version of iTunes on it.
I've been trying to move my music over to this computer from my old Windows PC via Home Sharing. However, my windows will connect to the iTunes on my Mac, but the Mac will not do the same with my Windows if this makes sense: it shows a loading screen but then just goes back to its own library, but still says that the windows' library is available.
I've tried restarting both computers; turning Home Sharing on and off; authorising and deauthorising both but to no avail. My windows is also running an up to date iTunes.
I'd be grateful for any advice, thanks in advance.

  • Playlists not working in Home Sharing

My setup:  iTunes 11 on Windows 7 PC, Home Sharing enabled, Apple TV 2 with latest firmware, Remote app on iPad 3
Initially I couldn't get Home Sharing to work at all, then discovered it was an issue with my Verizon FIOS Actiontec M1424WR router.  Solved that problem by going into Advanced settings for the router and disabling the IGMP Proxy.
Now when I start the Remote app on my iPad I can get to my library, but I'm having problems with playlists and podcasts:
    1.  The playlists won't play at all.  I can play individual podcasts but not playlists.  Anyone know how to get playlists working?
    2.  Within playlists the podcast order is changed.  Anyone know how to get Home Sharing to stop changing the podcast order?
    3.  Home Sharing is also changing the order of podcasts within the podcast itself - for example if I have NPR All Things Considered as a podcast, it changes the order of the individual stories.  This is very annoying - anyone know how to make it stop doing this?
    Any help is appreciated.

OK still having the same problem but now I'm using a workaround.  From iTunes on my PC, I select Apple TV from the speaker list, (via the icon that has a triangle within a rectangle) then start the playlist from there.  The podcasts start playing and can then be controlled, e.g. paused, from the Remote app on my iPad.  Also on the iPad in the list view up at the top it shows the upcoming podcasts and they are in the right order.  It would be nice if Apple fixed this so that the podcast playlist could be started from the iPad instead of having to start it from the PC.

  • Ipad home sharing partial library

I have iTunes 11.0.4.4 running on Windows 8.  Home Sharing is enabled, and I can see the library from my iPad (iOS 5.1.1, all latest updates installed).
When I go to my iPad, tap "Videos," and then tap "Shared," I get only a portion of my video library from the source computer.  Oddly, I get everything except the  "last" season of my TV shows.
If I have 4 season of a show, only the first 3 show up.  This is consistent across four shows -- 4 seasons, I only get three, 20 seasons, i only get 19, 7 seasons, i only get 6.
I've rebuilt the library.itl file using the .xml rebuild instructions, and the library appears to be fine.  Similarly, when I plug the iPad in to the computer and physically transfer the files, there doesn't seem to be a problem.
    Help?

On the iPad sign out of Home Sharing then sign back in

  • Home Sharing Troubleshoot

I am using two windows computers with home sharing. I can use one computer to access the library in the second, but the second computer will not load the first computer's library. I click on the library under home sharing, it says it's loading, "loads" for about 17 seconds, and then goes to the second computer's library. How can I fix this?
    Thanks!

To clarify: I have no trouble seeing the other four Macs from any of the five I have set up for Home Sharing. If I click on one of them - my Mac mini with most of my collection - from the other four, iTunes attempts to connect and then abruptly gives up. I do not have this connection incompletion connecting to the other four Macs. It's just the one.
I've tried this both wireless and wired. I even moved the library (which lives on an external drive) to another Mac and the problem persisted. I've concluded either the library is too big for Home Sharing to accommodate, or I have corrupt album art somewhere... which would be like finding a needle in a haystack.
Interesting development: my daugher's ancient G4 iBook running OS X 10.5.8 could connect to my Mac mini successfully until iTunes 10.2 came out. Now it too has the connection failure problem.

  • Home sharing: iTunes 11 works with iPhone 5 not iPad 3, iTunes 10.7 with iPad 3 not iPhone 5

It's worth mentioning that both my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 have iOS 6.0.1.  I have a MacBook Pro on OSX 10.7.5 with iTunes 10.7 (now) and a Windows 7 64-bit box on iTunes 10.7.
In short, trying to get all my stuff to play nicely has been a total nightmare; and sadly is the reason I pay the premium for Apple stuff: I want it to all work.
Originally, the MacBook had iTunes 11 on it.  With iTunes 11, the iPad couldn't stream any content (copy protected or not), though the iPhone could via the home sharing feature.
After downgrading the MacBook to iTunes 10.7 using Pacifist, the iPad will stream, but the iPhone won't.
Amusingly, both the iPad AND the iPhone stream just fine from the Windows box via home sharing.
Anyone have any ideas?  This is getting pretty obnoxious now.  I haven't rebooted the MacBook yet, which is what I'm planning on doing now.
EDIT: rebooting the Mac accomplished nothing; iPhone 5 still won't stream, iPad is fine same as before the reboot.

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the syncing troubles?

  • Apple TV Home Sharing Fix

I thought I should share this as I spent all afternoon trying to get my Apple TV to work - restoring, opening ports on router, uninstalling itunes 12 (which I suppose has been unfairly demonised) and installing an older version - to no avail
I'd tried all the other tricks - signing in and out, turning home sharing on and off
In the end it was my router that was causing the problem (if you're unsure then use your iphone to create a hotspot, link your computer and apple tv to that.  If home sharing comes up then you know it's your main router)
I've got a BT router and i have rebooted it lots.  BUT unplugging it for a minute makes it do a proper reset - in the end that solved the problem, home sharing worked straightaway
I thought I'd better share as the forums are full of people with the same problem - hope it helps someone else

I need to read slower. I was in the Apple TV and it is a simple On/Off so I assumed, wrongly, that the check box was a Home Sharing On/Off in iTunes as well. Not just a play count, my bad.
My asumption may have been wrong, but...
Honestly though, I would have to say that not having a Home Sharing activation within the "Sharing" panel is kind of a Microsoft maneuver. I mean, really? Why the "File" menu? Lol.
Even placing it under "Advanced" would seem as though you're trying to hide a feature which is needed for the 20 million Apple TVs out there today.
    Just my opinion.

  • Home Sharing Difficulty

I've enabled home share on my old PC that runs Vista, and my new iMac. Both have iTunes 10.1 installed, older PC runs Vista. Here is the problem: Home Sharing is partially working, I can see my entire library in iTunes on new iMac, but about 15% of the 1200 or so songs will not play. iTunes requests my apple username and password for these songs, I enter it, and it says this computer is already authorized and yet the songs still do not play. I am just streaming, not importing.
I have attempted turning off home sharing on both computers, restarting, and turning home sharing back on, still the same problem on the same songs. I have the "sharing" function turned off on both computers, as recommended by apple. Any more suggestions? I'm baffled as to why just part of the library will not properly stream over?

The issue was certain songs were purchased under another apple account in my household, which I did not know. Pretty simple fix, thanks to Apple engineer team.
