Windows 8 - Right Click Network Connection Properties - An unexpected error occurred

Hi,
I'm encountering an issue with a relatively new Windows 8 Pro x64 install (Been running about a week).
When attempting to right click on the Network Connection and select "Properties", I receive the following error:
"An unexpected error occurred"
The error also occurs when trying to disable the adapter. The network connection DOES work though. I have received an IP from my DHCP router and have network/internet access.
I have tried the Windows XP/7 "fix":
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\netshell.dll, and then click OK.
3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.
Test to see if you can open the properties of the network connection in the Network Connections folder.
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\ole32.dll, and then click OK.
3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.
4. Restart the computer.
Both did NOT work. I have also attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the Network Driver. I have also tried "SFC /scannow".
Neither of these worked either.

  • Windows 8 64 bit Home - Network properties: An unexpected error occurred. How to solve this???

    Hi all,
    Does anybody know how to fix this problem:
    When clicking for my network properties, I receive "an unexpected error has occured" message. Network works fine, however this problem is annoying
    my OS: Windows 8 64 bit Home
    Have already tried some stuff to fix this but nothing seems to help:
     reregister the Netshell.dll file & Ole32.dll
    Anybody?

    Hi,
    Regarding current situation, I suggest we follow these steps to check the issue:
    Since you got 64 bit Windows 8, we need to register files in SysWOW64 by pressing Windows key + R and type below command line one by one:
    regsvr32 %windir%\SysWOW64\netshell.dll
    regsvr32 %windir%\SysWOW64\ole32.dll
    If we cannot get this issue fixed, please run System file checker to repair DLL files:
    Please open command prompt by right-clicking the CMD and choosing Run as administrator. Type following command line:
    SFC /SCANNOW
    If any error message appear after the scan is finished, please post here or try to manually replace the corrupted system files from installation or recovery DVD.
    In addition, if SFC fail to solve the issue, please test the issue in Clean boot mode and let me know the results:
    How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
    If the issue doesn’t appear, you can determine which one can be the cause by using dichotomy in MSconfig. Checking on half of Non-Microsoft service and restart, determining which half of the services cause the issue and repeating to check
    half of the problematic half services.
    Look forward to your response.

    Hi Siva,
    This error was descirbed on the FIx below.

    And it occurs on the following scenario:
    You have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio installed on a Windows 8.1-based client computer.
    You connect the Object Explorer panel to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) in SQL Server Management Studio.
    You try to select Properties for the instance of SSAS in order to view or change the properties of the instance.

  • Network Connection Properties Access Standard Users

    Hi All,
    I know this is an old issue but i just cannot get it going i've read a couple of forum posts but i don't know whether i am still doing it correctly.
    I am trying to allow domain users to change their network connection properties to allow change of ip addresses as it is slightly different between our 2 offices locally.
    So i have added the users in to the network configuration operators group and also i have disabled the UAC as
    follows

    Hello again,
    Is NetworkOP a Security group?
    Also have you checked the client's PC and verify if the following group is added in Network Operators group?
    Do you see any errors in RSOP.msc when you try to see the applied policy?
    Please try to logon with different users in NetworkOp group and check if they have access or not?
    Do you have any other policy related to prevent access to network properties?
    User configuration \ Administrative templates \ Network \ Network Connection is a case in point.
    Another step is to make sure the Network Operators group itself is operational, so please create a user locally (Not Administrator) and add it to the Built in Network Operators group and see if they have access to properties.
    Regards.

  • "An unexpected error occurred. Try again." Extreme/Express cannot connect to existing network

    Recently my Speedstar wired modem died. So I had a relatively unused NETGEAR DG834GT wireless modem. Had no idea the old AirPort Extreme Base Station with modem was giving me crappy Wi-Fi speeds. I am enjoying speeds almost 6 x faster now. However I had to reset my entire Wi-Fi network and create a new one. I have an ethernet cable connected from the NETGEAR to the AirPort Extreme. I just want to extend my new Wi-Fi network so I have AirPlay back up and running on my three separate surround sound systems.
    SPECS
    OSX 10.9.4 (both MacBook Air and Mac Mini)
    AirPort Utility 6.3.2
    AirPort Extreme (2nd generation)
    AirPort Express (1st and 2nd generation)
    NETGEAR DG834GT (Mode g & b, WPA-PSK Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)
    AirPort Utility initially displayed all three Airport devices, but with the exclamation mark. I assume it was because I had set up an new Wi-Fi network with a new wireless modem so I had to "Forget" network and start over again.
    I've reseted each and every AirPort device to factory setting. AirPort Utility recognised each "new" device, and I selected "Join existing network." After several tries, AirPort Utility continually tells me that "An unexpected error occurred. Try again." This happens every time.
    I followed Apple's Support advice: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597 "AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3" to no avail (configuring it to Link-Local).
    What can I do so both my MacBook Air and Mac Mini can talk to each other (instead of opening AirDrop all the time) and for AirPlay to work on my three surround sound systems? One would assume that all AirPort devices should be able to readily and easily join an existing network. Is it due to my NETGEAR not playing nice with Apple AirPort devices due to it's wireless capabilities? I even entered through the NETEAR setup wizard and checked if any devices had connected via MAC, but it had none listed.
    What should I do?

    Reset the express to factory settings.
    Place it in the same room as the TC..
    If you are going to extend wireless do not connect ethernet.. just go through the setup from the airport utility.. if it fails.. welcome to Yosemite. The worst piece of network for ages..
    Do you have ipad.. even an iphone .. load the airport utility on and run the setup from there.. it is much more reliable.

    Hello,
    The maximum size is rather not the problem in this case. As mentioned in my question above, I have a problem uploading messages with 12MB attachments to Office 365 via EWS. According
    to the documentation you provided a link to, the message size limit in all plans of Office 365 is 25MB.
    When we try the same request using slow network connection (1Mbit/s) there IS problem  - we are NOT able to upload 12 MB attachments.
    When we try the same request using faster network connection (10Mbit/s) there is NO problem - we are able to upload 12 MB attachments.
    It seems like a kind of timeout - probably from Office365.
    Is there a possibility to upload attachment in chunks?
    Robert

    I keep getting this error message when I (right-click) on a photo file on my desktop to burn to a CD. I don't understand this code...does anyone?  Thanks  Ariel**:    The disc can’t be burned because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0x80020000).

    I tried every obvious solution to this problem with different types of disc (-R; +R; -RW and +RW) and the problem persisted.  Then I read about removing a hyphen in picture filenames.  I renamed all the images and bingo there were no further problems.  Apple should have solved this by now.  This error code has been reported for several years and my MacBook Pro is quite new.  Anyway, I hope this helps.  It does work.

  • Airport Express won't connect to network, blinking amber light, and "unexpected error occurred."

    I have two aiport expresses - both have the problem.  Both continue to have a blinking amber light, when I go through all the setup activities, after completing the factory reset multiple times, I simply get "An unexpected error occurred."
    In fact after I do this, my laptop has issues connecting to the network.  I have Verizon Fios, not sure if that means anything.
    Haven't seen this covered in any of the troubleshooting materials; they just keep going to factory reset to solve all problems, which I've done several times with each device to the same end.
    Any ideas?

    Hi - You can install 5.6 on Mountain Lion but it is tricky - here are instructions from a post by guru Bob Timmons -
    The workaround is to use a utility like Pacifist to manually extract the application and then manually install it in the Utilities folder - see this link:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167965/mountain_lion_and_the_ancient_airport_ba se_station.html
    Another workaround....if you have Time Machine backups.....is to back in time to locate AirPort Utility 5.6 and restore it to the desktop. Then drag it into the Utilities folder.

  • Implemenation of windows right click key

    i want to know how is the windows application key alias windows right click key is handled in java .
    Is the functionality provided for the right click key in any of the java versions.
    If yes , how is it done ? what is its keycode ?
    If no , why what is the reason ?
    and Is there any work around to implement the right click key if there is no direct solution .

    Hi Rommie,
    Thanks for your kind information .
    I want to know how is the windows right click key or context key is handled through keyboard instead through mouse .
    I attempted to handle the Context key in Java in KeyPressed event. However, there is no specific key code . In Java, it returns a VK_UNDEFINED virtual key code. But, since the same VK_UNDEFINED is returned for other keys as well, say for Windows key or when using a Japanese key board, there seems to be no direct way to handle Context key in Java.
    I would appreciate if there is anyother workaround solution that you may be aware of to handle the same.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amar.

    I have tried from so many forms. This is so frustrating. Thank for everyone/anyone who wants to help. So this is what happened: I had to uninstall my previous sqlserver 2012(which worked great) for some reason, and I uninstalled everything from that download.
    Then I installed the trial edition of sql server 2012 (64 Bit) and It wouldn't connect to the database. (Error mentioned above.) My local DB is COWBOYS. (COWBOYS is also my computer name.) After this, I have tried downloading sqlexpress and sqlserver 64bit
    many times and cannot connect to my local DB.
    How do I connect to my Local DB?
    Also, I think this might help: (When I run sqlserve.exe, which I was able to find in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\LocalDB\Binn, I get an error: Your SQL server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with(Error getting
    instance ID from name). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem.
    I would happily re install it, if it wasn't my 20th time.
    I don't have any remote connections, I don't use username/password, only window authentication. I work mostly on visual studio, but without able to store /retrieve data, I don't know how to survive.
    May be the solution is very simple, but I am too frustrated.
    Some of the things I have tried:
    From a command prompt, enter one of the following commands:
    net start "SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)" OR
    net start "SQL Server Agent(instancename)"(for instance)
    on my sql configuration, I cannot start anything because there is nothing there to start. I can post more details, if that would help. Also, some more details about the error:

    Any one that can help me, I will be greatful. Thank you so much. p.s. please ask me anything if you have any questions.

    It sounds like there are a couple things going on here.  First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
    Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance.  Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
    If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error.  If you get an error, post the error message your hitting.  If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect.  If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
    name in the connection dialog.  Ex:  "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name.  However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format.  Ex:  COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
    is the instance name you set during install).
    You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install.  Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
    recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

    Hi,
    As suggested earlier this seems to be a DTC related issue. It can only occur if the DTC settings are not proper or if firewalls don't allow the default ports to communicate.
    Check DTC settings on both SQL and BizTalk Box and also check if MSDTC service is up and running.
    Go to Start
    à Run
    à (type in) Dcomcnfg. You should be inside Component Services MMC.
    Expand Component Services
    à Computers
    à My Computer (right click)
    à Properties
    à MSDTC tab
    à Security Configuration button.
    Select the checkboxes as following :
    Check the below article from Microsoft Support Team, they have listed all the errors which may come during setting up a new system. They also have your MSDTC error listed.
    Resolving the issues you may face during BizTalk Runtime Configuration

    Hi clay,
    Per my understanding that you got some error when you upload reports in the report manager, right?
    I have checked the log and the issue can be caused by many factors.
    It can be caused by the size of the report is too big which will sent the request in its entirety and got a TCP ACK-FIN or RST from server to close the connection, without a response from server when uploading the reports. We can follow these steps
    to increase the request size to resolve the issue:
    Add the following registry key with the following value:
     Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters
     Value: DWORD "MaxRequestBytes"  set it to a value of 5242880 (5MB). (This number is alterable).
    Stop the SRS Windows Service.
    From a cmd prompt run "net stop http" then "net start http".
    Try and upload your report.
    Details information please reference to this similar thread:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2238494/cant-deploy-or-upload-large-ssrs-2008-report-from-vs-or-ie
    If the above didn't help, please also check below information:
    configure the rsreportserver.config file and make the SecureConnectionLevel value set to 0 to solve the problem. By default, the file is under the path:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
    You can refer to the code below:
    < Add Key="SecureConnectionLevel" Value="0"/>
    The SecureConnectionLevel property allows values of 0,1,2,3, with 0 indicating that Secure Socket Layer is not required for any of the Web service methods. And a positive integer indicates Secure Socket Layer is required for all the Web service methods.
    If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

  • A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.

    Dear all,
    I know that this topic may be a bit old school; but it really make me mad as I tried all solutions i found and it still cant be resolved....please give a hand...
    The situation is like this,my company divided different platform as a status of project, like DEV, SIT and UAT. I got a project that require me to upgrade an vs2003 project to vs2005. I upgraded it completely and
     successfully, it works fine in development and UAT platform; EXCEPT, the SIT platform.
    The situation is very strange that, once I move the source to SIT, it return the following error:
    A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.
    (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)
    but it never happen in either DEV or UAT platform and even do I copy the workable web.config from DEV or UAT platform to SIT, the error still here and unable to resolve it.
    I search a lot in the internet by Google, but solution suggested are not suitable or fail in my case. Most answer suggest that "enable remote control", "check fire wall", "check server" etc......But as I can connect well the
    DBServer in DEV and UAT properly, I dont think those are the cause(but still, I check them all, and all are enabled properly, except my firewall setting is OFF, so adding port is ignored).
    After all the searching and testing, I believed and have reason to believe that, the cause is inside my web.config:
      <appSettings>
        <!--   User application and configured property settings go here.-->
        <!--   Example: <add key="settingName" value="settingValue"/> -->
    <clear/>
        <add key="Environment" value="UAT v1.31"/>
        <add key="DBServer" value="DB_UAT"/>
        <add key="cnBPSS.ConnectionString" value="data source=DB_UAT\BPSS;persist security info=True;user id=theloginid;workstation id=RP_UAT;packet size=4096;pwd=theloginpwd"/>
        <add key="UTBPSSConn.ConnectionString" value="data source=DB_UAT\BPSS;persist security info=False;user id=theloginid;workstation id=RP_UAT;packet size=4096;pwd=theloginpwd"/>
        <add key="UTDSBDBConn.ConnectionString" value="workstation id=RP_UAT;packet size=4096;user id=theloginid;data source=DB_UAT\DSBDB;persist security info=False;password=theloginpwd"/>
        <add key="cnDSBDB.ConnectionString" value="workstation id=RP_UAT;packet size=4096;user id=theloginid;data source=DB_UAT\DSBDB;persist security info=False;password=theloginpwd"/>
        <add key="Timer1.Enabled" value="True"/>
        <add key="Timer1.AutoReset" value="True"/>
        <add key="cnbpss.ConnectionString" value="data source=DB_UAT\BPSS;password=theloginpwd;persist security info=True;user id=theloginid;workstation id=RP_UAT;packet size=4096"/>
        <add key="cnbpss1.ConnectionString" value="data source=DB_UAT\BPSS;password=theloginpwd;persist security info=True;user id=theloginid;workstation id=RP_UAT;packet size=4096"/>
    </appSettings>
    </configuration>
    I know such kind of setting is old school; But due to this program runs for few years from tons of ppl...I dont dare to modify it unless I am very sure they are the cause.....
    May I ask if anyone cna give me some advice and help in this issue please? I already tried for weeks and turning mad....Please I really need some help...
    Many thanks.
