Windows 8 stops printer spooler in vista pc

My AIO HP F4280 printer spooler service in my Windows Vista PC stops when I send a print job via wireless from my Windows 8 laptop PC. I downloaded and installed the Windows 8 software for the F4280 and if the printer is connected to the Windows 8 PC, prints from the Windows 8 PC, as well as prints sent via wireless from the Vista PC, are done with no issues.
Going back to wireless from the Win 8 to the Vista continues to stop the spooler service.
All known updates for both PCs have been installed.

  • Acrobat 9 won't install - trying to stop Print Spooler

I've tried to install Acrobat 9 on my computer several times, but it gets hung up.  The installation box says that its status is "Stopping Services - Service to stop: Print Spooler".  Any thoughts on how to fix this?

The Acrobat 9 download won't accept my CS4 license.  What I ended up doing was jumping through several hoops to get this to work:
Edited Acrobat out of the registry - no change, still pauses during installation
    Uninstall CS4 entirely
Run Adobe CS4 Clean Script - see http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    Run Microsoft Installer Cleanup program
    Reinstall CS4 including Acrobat
Neither the registry edit, Clean Script or Microsoft installer cleanup fix the problem on their own.  Yet, when I did them all in succession, Acrobat installed successfully - finally!  I hope this information spares someone else from investing too many hours to fix their installation problem.

  • Windows 7 print spooler keeps stopping

I have two printers. Both HP, one is a PSC 1317 and the other is a Deskjet 710c. Windows will install the drivers correctly. The PSC1317 uses the drivers as supplied by HP. The Deskjet 710c uses a basic driver supplied by Microsoft.
The problem starts when i try to print anything. I get the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The local print spooler is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine"
If i restart the machine, and try to print, I get the same message. If i restart the Print Spooler, i get the same message.
I have tried numerous uninstalls and reinstalls of the drivers for both printers. I have redownloaded the software from HP on 3 different systems to rule out file corruption but to no avail.
    I am using windows 7 Ultimate x64
When i search for the problem on the web, i cannot find anything to do with the problem for Windows 7, only XP and Vista soutions come up
Does anyone have any answers? As i need the printers for printing out my coursework which is due in next week.

There is a known issue with the Deskjet 710c in 64 bit versions of Vista or Windows 7 that crashes the spooler.  There is a patch to correct this available here.

  • Windows 7 print spooler won't start

I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 545 from Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium a week ago and have only been able to print one document since then.
Under Vista my Canon MP610 and Lexmark 705 printers both worked, but no luck with Windows 7.
I keep getting the message Print Spooler isn't started.
I've tried starting it from the services dialog box and it just won't go. I've run an SCN scan and no problems were found.
My printers do work because our MacBook in the kitchen can get them to print from our wireless network.
    Help!

    Hello,
This problem is caused by the corrupted Printer Spooler service. Try the following steps to repair it:
    Step 1
    ======
Start Windows Explorer, and then rename all files and folders in the following two folders:
    c:\windows\system32\spool\printers
    c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86
To rename a file, we can right click the file and select Rename.
    Step 2
    ======
    1. Click Start, type REGEDIT in the Start Search Bar, and then press ENTER.
    2. Navigate to and then click the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86
View the list of subkeys. There should be only the following subkeys:
    Drivers
    Print Processors
If there are any keys other than those listed above, follow these steps:
    a. On the File menu, click Export.
    b. In the File Name box, type a descriptive name for this key -- for example, type WindowsNTx86regkey -- and then click Save to save it to your local Desktop.
We can use this backup of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environment\Windows NT x86 registry key to restore the key if you experience any problems after you complete this procedure.
    c. Delete all keys other than Drivers and Print Processors.
    Step 3
    ======
Navigate to and click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors registry key. View the list of subkeys. There should be only the following subkeys:
    BJ Language Monitor
    Local Port
    Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Monitor
    Microsoft Shared Fax Monitor
    Standard TCP/IP Port
    USB Monitor
    WSD Port
If there are any keys other than those listed in above, follow these steps to delete them:
    a. On the File menu, click Export.
    b. In the File Name box, type a descriptive name for this key -- for example, type Monitorsregkey -- and then click Save to save it to your local Desktop.
We can use this backup of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors registry key to restore the key if you experience any problems after you complete this procedure.
    c. Delete all keys other than the 5 listed above.

  • Samba cups and windows 8: printer spools but will not print.

    Hello,
I have samba and cups setup. I have been trying to connect to my windows printer. Here is my setup
    Arch linux linux-3.12.1-3
    samba-4.1.2-1
    cups-1.7.0-2
    Windows 8.1
    no firewalls
    Samba config

    #username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
    workgroup = Bobshouse
    encrypt passwords = yes

    log level = 1
    max log size = 1000
    read only = no
    #disable netbios = yes

    browsable = no
    map archive = yes
    [Shared]
    browsable = yes
    read only = yes
    path = /home/bob/Share
for cups some things I have tried are
    lpd://hostname/printer
    smb://username:password@hostname/printer_name
I can see the printer with smbclient
So the printer spools, but will not print. the paper does not move I just hear the printer. Also when I watch the print queues in windows and linux. Cups shows that it sent the document, but when I watch the windows queue it shows the document, but the size of the document stays at 32 kb out of 1.8 mb and says printing. I hope this makes sense. I am just trying to keep things very simple at this point. I just want to understand what the problem is and build on it.

Please provide the following relevant information so someone can help including:
    Printer Model - done
Complete and Detailed Problem Description -
Operating System of computer (including service pack revision) - done
Connection Method - USB, Hardwired LAN, Wireless? -
Make and model of router and modem? -
Error messages - on printer screen and/or computer, any blinking light patterns?
If wireless, when the problem occurs, what is status of Blue Wireless light on printer, on, off or blinking? –
Power off printer and router. Power on router and wait 3 mins, power on printer. Does it connect to the router now? Do you have a valid IP address?

  • Windows 8 Print Spooler wont start.

I just upgrade my system from windows 7 to windows 8 and am not able to add a printer because the Print Spooler won't start.
The error that I get when I try to start it is
Error 1068 The dependancy Service or group failed to start
I have searched the archives and have looked at the dependencies listed in the service the list says:
HTTP Service (This does not exist in the service list.)
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (Was able to start this)
DCOM Server Process Launcher (Was able to start this)
RPC Endpoint Mapper (Was able to start this)

If Adil's suggestion does not work then try the command below.  This will clear out your current dependencies on the spooler and leave it with just RPCSS which should allow you to start print spooler.  Remember to run this from and Administrative
command prompt by going to your start screen and typing in "cmd" and then right clicking on Command Prompt and selecting Run As Administrator.
    sc config spooler depend=rpcss
do not work for me at all: get the error msg:
    [SC] OpenService FAILED 1060
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

    Hi,
Firstly please make sure your print spooler service startup type is correct:
    To check as below steps:
    1. Click on Start and then type Services.msc
in search box then hit Enter.
    2. Find “Print spooler” service and then double click on it.
    3. You will see a “Stop” button, stop the service for while, set it's
    Startup type as "Automatic".
    4. Go to “Recovery" Tab. Change “First Failure” & “Second Failure” value as below:
◾Change the value of  “First Failure” to “Restart the Service”
◾Change the value of  “Second Failure” to “Restart the Service”
    5. Under Dependencies tab, make sure  the RPC Service
is the dependencies of the “print spooler”.
    6. Then Leave it until next step is complete
    7. Delete all the print job from this path “c:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS”
◾Delete all the files under this following path (make it clean)
    ◾c:\windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS
    8. Now start the Print Spooler service.
◾Come again “print spooler” Configuration page and click on “Start” Button.
    9. click OK and restart the computer to check the result.

  • Acrobat XI Pro update / print spooler problem

Running Acrobat XI Pro on Windows XP Pro 5.1 sp 3..
-- Acrobat tries to update 11.0.02. I see the icon in the Windows tray for a long time. I open the Acrobat Updater, and it is stuck on "Service to stop:  Print Spooler."
-- It was like that for about a day ... maybe two... then it gave the 'Install Failed" error, and, if I remember correctly, gave the error message 1602.
-- When I looked up the error, the stated remedy was to try again but using the Help --> Check for Updates menu item inside Acrobat (instead of letting automatic updater do it).
-- So I did that yesterday evening, about 10 hours ago, and currently, the install is still stuck on "Service to stop: Print Spooler."
This actually happened once before some months ago, and I forget what I did to fix or end the situation... but whatever that was, I'm not finding it now.
    Help?

Please follow the steps mentioned here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1602-update-acrobat-reader.html

  • How do I start or fix the print spooling servic e??

My Printer is an H P  psc750-== and the only message I get when trying to start the Printer is the Print spooling is not working!
Just what is the spooling service and what do I do to get it woking again?? using Windows XP

The print spooler is where the print jobs go as a queue. You can start this by going to the Contorl Panel>administrative tools> services> then look for print spooler on the list when you click it then you would need to put it in automatic if its off. After that save it by clicking ok and check if it works.

  • Print spooler keeps stopping on Windows 7

I have an HP desktop computer running Windows 7 it has an HP photosmart Printer and an Kodak AIO 5500 attached to it and shared over the network. Everything is fine with the HP printer but every time I try to print to the Kodak the print spooler keeps
stopping. I have tried many of the work arounds I have found but nothing helps. Every time I try to print to the KOdak I have to wait until after I have made all the print option and then I have to start the spooler.  The firmware and software is up to
date on the Kodak printer.  How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I would like to suggest you perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
Clear Printer Spooler Files and Enable the Spooler Service
    =================================
    1. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Search box and press Enter.
    2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    3. Click Stop and click OK.
    4. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder.
    5. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter.
    6. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list.
    7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK.
    Does it work?
    Regards,
    Arthur Li - MSFT
Thanks Arthur. Your solution worked for me and I now have both my printers back in use. I am using Windows 7 and IE9. Suspect that clicking the Print button on an internet site yesterday when reserving an item for collection at the local outlet of
a national high street retailer may have caused the problem.

  • PC Suite on Vista causes excessive print spooler l...

I had PC Suite 6.84.10.3 installed on two Vista Home Premium systems.
Some time after the installation was complete, I noticed excessive disk activity, and tracked this down to writes to the file c:\windows\system32\spool\SpoolerETW.etl - a file that should normally be empty. The Vista print spooler is logging a failure to open a printer every 0.25 seconds.
While troubleshooting this, I noticed that when I started the print spooler, the PC connected to my phone. After some checking, it seems certain that PC Suite has somehow made itself known to the print spooler as a possible Bluetooth printer driver.
Removing the phone from the list of Bluetooth devices did not change the print spooler logging behaviour.
Removing PC Suite from the system did slow the logging down and reduce the number of messages in each log entry, but it did not stop it completely.
A third "identical" system that has never had PC Suite installed does not exhibit this behaviour.
PC Suite Cleaner, which may help remove the residual mess, does not run on Vista.
Any ideas on how to stop this print spooler activity?

I seemed destined to never solve this problem...
Okay (deep breath in and out)
I uninstalled pc suite and combed the registry deleting any and every registry entry I could find related to Nokia. That done and seemingly successful I then d/l'ed the latest version of pc suite from the official site and installed it.
    Two things I noted...
Gone were the troublesome resource messages which was great BUT
Now I find that my system can't install some sort of driver for the n81 when I have it connected via usb cable to the n/b in data transfer mode (for maps mainly) and now it won't even read my micro sd card either when it is in the phone or when it is plugged into the card reader on my n/b. I have tried other sd cards without a problem but it now just seems to be this card.
    So what's happening here?
It would seem that vista can't reconcile a simple fricken cable connection into it's usb port nor can it read a nokia badged sd card where previously it could.
What are the masses thoughts on this head F%&*!!

  • Windows stops responding and closes when I try to print

I have IE 9 on a vista 64 bit.  Recently I had some problems with print jobs staying in the que.  I resolved that and reinstalled the printer and drivers.  I have a photosmart 5514.  Ever since that day I can't print off a webpage.  Coupons, bank statements etc.  It says windows stopped responding and closes the webpage.  I have been unable to fix this.  Also since that day my microsoft works wont' work.  It says I have corrupted fonts!

It is a wireless connection.  What happened first after a year of flawless performance was I was asked to print a statement from my banks website.  I tried several times and it kept shutting down with the windows error above.  I was unable to print anything from that moment on.  I spent half the day finding the problem and discovered my WP network key was changed.  I have no idea how trying to print from the banks site did that.  I called them to report the situation since it was so strange.  Even asked them if they knew what that number even was.  I still had issued so I just uninstalled the printer and used my installation disc to set it up again.  Now I can print off my documents, PDF or Word but my Works files come up with the message that the font cache is missing or renamed.  When I searched that I found it isn't uncommon and that it is usually a corrupted printer driver.  I loaded it off my CD from HP.  Not sure what to do now other than try to uninstall and reinstall.  Just haven't had a time with work to do that yet.  Also when I try to print off an email, webpage or even a coupon it does the windows has to shut down message.  This will be my last HP printer.  I have problems all the time with them and have owned nothing but HP for over 20 years.  Four computers and printers in the house right now.  I just can't deal with que issues and buying new printers every two years because I have a home office and must have it working.

  • Adobe PDF Printer (Acrobat Pro 9.3.2) causes Print Spooler crash on Windows 7 64-bit

We have recently upgraded our office to Windows 7 64-bit. This upgrade has been very smooth with the exception of Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro. We are running Acrobat 9.3.2, I know there are a couple of additional updates available but they do not fix this issue if installed.
The problem occurs when users create documents using the Adobe PDF printer. The Print Spooler will crash, causing the application they are printing from to stop responding and they are forced to close the program. From this point onwards the user will be unable to print to any printer whatsoever, until they restart their computer. Stopping and starting the print spooler (clearing temp files as well) sometimes corrects the issue, but by the time they have found an admin to do this they may as well just restart.
I should note that this problem is not very consistent. It occurs sometimes after one PDF has been created, sometimes after they have created many PDFs, and sometimes not at all. It doesn't seem to matter which application they create the PDF from either. It's very irritating because I can't pin it down to anything in particular.
I've Googled a lot around this subject and I can see that I am not the only one with this issue, however there don't seem to be any solutions out there. This issue is widespread across our organisation and I would greatly appreciate any constructive suggestions on finding a resolution.
    Many thanks, Steve.

Several months ago, I started working on this issue and thought that I had it resolved by uninstalling the "Internet Printing Client" from "Windows Features" (Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off > expand Print and Document Services > uncheck Internet Printing Client). This change seemed to help at the time, as I was then unable to reproduce the issue and the end-user was unable to reproduce the issue for two weeks after (thus I closed the help desk case). But now it looks like the issue is back. Maybe the above setting will help someone else, but I'm now looking for a permanent fix.
PS: I have instructed our users on the "Save as PDF" option provided in Office 2010, but I don't think that is used all the time, and the PDF printer is there only option in other applications (IE for example).
Anybody had this issue and found a fix?
    Thanks,
    Justin
