Windows 8 supported computers

I would like to know if there is a list of computers that will support Windows 8.  I have a Mac-Mini Server mid-2010, and I want to install windows 8 on it so I can use it insted of windows 7.  I have Mountian Lion(10.8.2) installed, and when I install windows 8 everything works fine, but the ethernet port.  It will lose connection to my network.  If I install Windows Server 2012, I have the same issues with the hardware. I am able to install Windows 7, and everything works fine ethernet and everything. I am thinking its drivers...
I would like to know, is Apple dropping support for that version of the mini, and if not, when are the drivers going to be updated to work with it.  I tried searching for answers, and have found nothing...  What can be done with this?
Thanks,
-KKT

I am able to install it on my MacBook Pro(Early 2011) with no issue.  everything works.  Installing it in a VM would allow me to use the OS, and with the processor in there it runs very slow.  So a VM is not an option in this case.

  • Verify CCMEval task has run in recent cycles on Windows 8.1 computers - Remediation Failed 0x00000332

    Hi All
I have a problem going on here with currently 79 Windows 8.1 Clients. They are failing to run the CcmEval Task with the result of Remediation Failed -  0x00000332 - Request to run client Evaluation task has not succeeded.
Meanwhile, the other 227 Windows 8.1 computers do not have this issue, nor do the 449 Windows 7 Clients.
On a failing client, under the Task Scheduler ->Microsoft -> Configuration Manager, the Config Manager Health Evaluation shows as having ran, but in the history, it has not.
Under Config Manager Idle Detection, they task as never actually ran, its just been queued.
and again, the Config Manager Maintenance task has never ran at all.
If I run all three manually, they all run and complete ok , report back to SCCM Console as being all active and happy.
Also note, that 68 of the 79 clients with the errors are all HP laptops 6460/6760b models, and that nearly all live on laptop trolleys and are used on and off throughout the day by students (we are a school).
Does anyone have any tips or advice for me ?
    Thanks!

  • Arch Linux 32x64 bits, Developers and Window Managers Support

    Greetings!
After having some time issues due to college that prevented me from this, I wish to have again a rolling-release distro in my computer.
I was in the past a big fan of Gentoo, but now it seems too much work to compile everything from scratch. Also they seemed to have some issues with the developers - the original developer if I understood correctly has quit the project, others were forced to quit due to misbehavior, etc. - and maybe due to some other facts their popularity on distrowatch dropped drastically.
Then this year I've tried Debian Testing... My goodness, that was messy. Tons and tons of bugs on XFCE, like thunar hanging on load and displaying error messages, gedit not removing the ~lock files properly on close, so I had the myfile and ~myfile, and many others. Really, I gave up.
I wish to give Arch Linux I try then. Of course that would be quite stupid to ask if arch linux is the best choice in an arch linux forum, but there are some key points that if you could answer would help me a lot to give it a try:
    1. 32x64
"Should I use 32-bit or 64-bit?" is NOT the intended question. Many still prefer 32-bit-pae on a 64-bit capable machine, others prefer 64-bit. I wish to use 64-bit. Made my mind. But I would like to know if the support of 64-bit on Arch Linux is as good as 32-bit and if it comes by default with cross-libs which makes me able to run 32-bit applications natively right out of the box,
    2. Developers
About how many and what's their relation with the users? When I've googled for Arch Linux, I've had found a review video on youtube where some guy said in the comments that developer's mind changed a lot in the past 2 years and they introduced many buggy packages that required manual workaround. At the end of his comments, he said "Sympathy? Apologies for the ****? Nope. blame the user for trusting 'pacman -Syu'" Surely I don't know which are these options because I haven't read about pacman yet (just know it's the default package manager) but you get the idea.
Another key question: Is Arch Linux hiring new developers over the time? Replacing the ones that leaves for the many reasons?
    3. Window Managers Support
With Gnome3's overall rejection (including mine), we have only two options: Switch to KDE or try other Window Managers. I still wish to have faith on gtk, so the first option is still not considered by me. I don't wish to know "which one is the best", because that's another large discussion just as the 32-bit x 64-bit. Just how good is Arch's support (updated constantly? bug-fixes?) on:
    - XFCE
    - MATE
    - Cinnamon
(Of course there are others like LXDE, Enlightenment, etc. but I've decided to narrow down to XFCE even having quite bad experiences on Debian Testing.)
    4. Package Manager
Last, being a rolling-release dist, can I add an option for a specific package to install a specific older version and/or not upgrade when you tell the dist. to upgrade everything? I remember that back on Gentoo I could edit a text file and just type the version of the package I wished to keep and the "update everything" option wouldn't touch the package (worked also to try new versions that were still not stable enough).
Any replies will be very appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
    Best regards.

I'll start at the end with #4.  Of course on the arch forums you will get people who are biased towards liking arch - but I think if you ask in other communities you will regularly hear that arch's package management system is its greatest strength.  Pacman is the primary tool for this, but we also have makepkg for things in the Arch User Repository (AUR), and the Arch Build System (ABS) to recompile anything from the main repos with additional/alternate compilation options.
But for your direct question, there is an option to only upgrade to a particular version of a given package.  There is an option in pacman's configuration file for just this purpose.  However depending on what the package is, this could lead to problems.  Users are discouraged from updating most of their system while keeping some older packages - This can lead to issues with shared dependencies.  Of course if you build the package from source (AUR or ABS) yourself, such issues would be easy to resolve.  Is there a certain package you know you'd want to keep at an older version?  If you tell us what it is, we can give more specific information on how easy/hard it would be to accomplish.
#3: Arch is a DIY distro.  You choose whatever window manager / DE you want.  I can vouche for XFCE working wonderfully in arch.  There are also numerous archers who use mate and cinnamon.  I have heard of some problems, but (AFAIK) these have nothing to do with compatibility with arch, rather these are due to upstream issues.  In other words, cinnamon, mate, xfce, or any other WM should work just as well on arch as on any other distro.  I'd bet our wiki for installing and configuring those WMs are better than those of the distros that bundle the WM with the core install.  (In addition to package management, you will find the arch wiki is second to none).
#2: I can't answer with any specifics - other than to say they continue to do an excellent job.  I am not surprised by the youtube video - not because I'd agree with it, quite the opposite.  But as arch is a DIY distro it puts some responsibility on the user to maintain their own system.  If one is not prepared for nor willing to do this, they often become frustrated and end up blaming someone else.  Often this is the developers, sometimes it is the forum moderators, other times it is the whole arch community.  In every case these accusations are absurd.  Your questions on replacement of developers is a good question though - there is a history page on the wiki which might give some insight on this, but I suspect others will have better input on this.
#1: I use i686 (32bit) on two of my computers and it works perfectly.  It sounds, however, that a majority of the community uses 64bit (which I just updated to on one of my computers).  My 64bit system works perfectly as well, but I don't have any 32bit-only apps.  Occasionally there are forum threads about some issue or another with "multilib" applications which are 32bit programs run in a 64bit system.  Generally these threads seem to be resolved without much hassle.  You can search for some of them yourself: Skype seems to be a common topic of such issues.
All in all, I'd reiterate arch's strengths in it's package management and wiki/documentation.  Potential weaknesses could be found by users who are unwilling or unable to take responsibility for their own system.  I word this is a bit biased manner - there are many people who have no interest in being responsible for maintaining their own system, a majority of all computer users would fall into this category; most of them would be quite unhappy with arch linux.  If you were happy with gentoo in the past and only want to avoid constant recompiling then you probably would be one who could be very happy with arch.
Or an even shorter summary: try it out.  If you don't like it, switch.

Not to be confused with the title of this thread, because this tool will not work with installing most LaserJets, but try the HP Printer Install Wizard and let me know any error messages you get.
I will need to know quite a bit of information before I can be of much assistance, otherwise:
    1.  What error messages are you getting (ex. fatal error 1603)?
    2.  How are you trying to connect the printer (USB, wireless, etc)?
    3. What happened when you used the HP Print and Scan Dr?
Lastly, If you do not answer these questions and others I know I will have, then I wish you the best of luck with your printer installation. Do not be mislead, just because I do not work for HP doesn't mean I'm not an expert.

  • Where can I find Windows 7 support files for Mac?

While in the process of creating a partition with Boot Camp, I was unable to download the Windows 7 support files.  Is there a link to someplace I can get them elsewhere?  Will Windows 7 work in Boot Camp without them?  Thanks!

Oh, okay.  I was hoping they were available somewhere online since I'm having such difficulty downloading them through the Boot Camp Assistant.  Thanks anyway.

  • Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported

Load balancing 10g forms - Connection from new browser window not supported
We're experimenting with using webcache to load balance between multiple applications servers running OC4J forms processes.
We currently have one machine with infrastructure and mid-tier (BI & Forms) installed, which is being used for the webcache functionality, this is load balancing between 2 other servers each of which just have the mid-tier (BI & Forms) installation
In order to get this to work, I had to follow the instructions in the Forms deployment guide : http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_11/web.1012/b14032/tuning.htm#sthref707
The main gist of this is that you need to set the following in the orion-web.xml file in order that the sessions are maintained:
    <session-tracking
    cookies="enabled">
    </session-tracking>
This all works fine in most cases.
The problem I am having is if I do one of the following on the client machine:
    1) From IE6 / IE7 run a copy of a forms application. Then open a new window using the "New Window" menu option, and attempt to run another forms application.
    2) In IE7 or Firefox 2.0 open a copy of the forms application, and then open a new tab and try and open another forms application.
If I try either of these I get a FRM-92101 error, and the following is displayed in the java console:
oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Connection from new browser window not supported
From trawling various forums (including metalink and otn) it looks like a problem with the way coockies are handled.
Unfortunately the usual workaround is to ensure that the session tracking option in the orion-web.xml file is disabled.
The problem is that I need this enabled in order for the load balancing to work.
Does anyone know of any other workarounds or patches that might help resolve this?
We're using Application server 10.1.2.0.2 running on windows 2003 servers.

You were right. Carriage returns were stopping it from working (the document is laid out over separate lines, so I assumed it would make no difference...).
I've now managed to get it so the forms at least run, but they are all being run in the forms OC4J instance on the same machine as the OHS.
Has anyone actually managed to get this to work, or am I doing something wrong?
I did wonder if using an OHS instance on a machine with no forms installation would make any difference?
I had raised a support call via metalink on this subject, but they eventually came to the conclusion that the only way to do this is with a hardware load balancer (Despite several documents suggesting that webcache is the way to go (including the forms deployment manual)).
I'm at the point now of giving up and writing some custom scripts to do the job instead...

  • Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with Windows 2003 forest functional level Supported after Windows 2003 support ends in July 2015

    Hi
Anyone knows whether Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers with Windows 2003 forest functional level will still be Supported after Windows 2003 support ends in July 2015 ?
    Thanks

When Windows Server 2003 support ends, you should not have a Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller running if you would like to be supported by Microsoft. This means that there will be no reason to have a DFL or FFL that is lower than Windows Server 2008.
So, if you are keeping Windows Server 2003 FFL to keep DCs running Windows Server 2003 then this is not supported.

Tomcat is written entirely in java, so it can run anywhere you have a JVM! However, it only supports JSP and servlets. For ejbs, you will need another container. Try JBoss... www.jboss.org.

  • Can't connect to Macbook Pro running ML shares from Windows 7 Pro computers

On my Macbook Pro I can see all the network shares on the windows machines and connect to them. On my Windows 7 Pro computers I can see the Mac but when I try to connect to it asks for a username and pawword. No username/password combo works. On the windows machines I can ping the Macbook's ip but when I try pinging the Macbook's name it returns 127.0.0.1. None of the windows machines have entires in the hosts file other than the ones commented out which is the factory default.
When I ping machinename.local on the mac it returns the correct ip address so I'm pretty sure the Mac is working fine. I also went into the wins setting and put in the machinename and correct workgroup on the mac. The issue seems to be on the windows machines thinking the mac's dns name is localhost. Resetting the u-verse router didn't work. Turning file sharing off and on on the mac didn't solve the problem either.
I was at one point able to connect to the mac shares from my windows machines but it just stopped working several days ago for no apparent reason.

Try changing the encryption, also make sure the computer is fully updated. Windows Xp computers do not all have native WPA2 capability. Try disabling security and see if that works. If it does not, it may be an interfernce problem on one computer. Try changing the wireless channel to 3 or 9

  • About windows 10 supporting indian regional languages. especially on phones.

I'm presently using lumia series phone which has windows 8.1. And does not support many indian languages. But the pc version of windows 8.1 supports the aforesaid. Hence the windows 10 is universal OS across devices, will that support indian languages
on all those devices?? Moreover, i'm requesting you to develop a typing software for indian languages as like as google input tools.

    Hi,
Since Windows 10 final edition is not released, it's hard to say if Windows 10 or Windows Phone10 support Indian language. However, if you have any suggestion with Windows new product, you can post your suggestion by using Windows Feedback in Windows 10.
