Windows 8 user cannot connect to public OS X Lion share as Guest, keeps asking for a password even though the folder is public?
As title suggests...
OS X Mountain Lion public share works fine for Mac's but as a guest from Windows its adamant it wants a password. If I use proper credentials it will allow me in the public share from the windows PC but I dont want to add creditinatials it should be an open folder to Network (LAN) WORKGROUP users.
OS X Guest account is set to "allow guests to connect to shared folders"
The Public folder is set in "Sharing" as READ ONLY everyone.
Mac's can access the share without needing credentials.
Windows PC asks for Username and Pass (have tried Guest (no password) or just pressing enter (no details)
Searched these forums see a few other people with similar problems yet no Answers
Help please!!
Try this on your PC:
Start->Run...->Open:\\<ipadressofyourmac>\<sharename>
You will be prompted for your username and password.
Or
'My Computer'->'Tools'->'Map network drive...'
enter:
\\<ipadressofyourmac>\<sharename>
in the 'Folder' field.
Click 'Connect using a _different user name_.'.
Enter your server username and password.
Click 'OK'.
Click 'Finish'.

Have them perform a complete power recycle of their networking hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Also, make sure that they perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort (as described in the tip) to be sure to return the AirPort back to its "out-of-th-box" configuration.

My ipod will not connect to my home wifi, it can see it and asks for a password but will not connect. I have tried it at another location and it will connect to other wifi connections. I have another ipod that is connecting just fine to my home wifi.

I am not able to connect to my Wifi. It keeps asking for a password and when i enter the password it either says Unable To Connect or Incorrect Password.

Where did you get the password that you are trying? What does it look like? (Length, type of characters)
Do you know what type of security is being used? WEP, WPA, WPA2 -
I was using firefox 5.0.1 & it was crashing frequently.I removed the installation & tried to reinstall.I getting a window asking for adminstrator password.Even after entering password,firefox was not getting installed
Sorry you are having problems. First of all try Fifrefox's safemode.

Next step, if safe mode did not work.

ShivIs this a clean install or an upgrade? 20 GB, though greater than the minimum, is pretty minimal. How much memory do you have on the system? 2008 would try to create a page file of 1.5x physical memory, so if you are building on a large
memory system, you could be having an issue there.

I am trying to put my ipad back to factory settings and it keeps asking for my original Id which is the reason I am needing to reset it. When I try to do this via password prompts it asks for my date of birth which I enter correctly and it tells me it is incorrect and then trying the email route this does not send any emails to the registered accounts I set up originally - help!!
My guess is all the issues are probably related and fall back to malware.
AVG is probably correct in identifying malware. So I suggest you try some cleaning tools other than Emsisoft .
ones I use (all of them one after the other until I find one that can cope) are;

So first create a clean boot in Windows using Microsoft's instructions https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135?wa=wsignin1.0 and then run the anti malware applications.
My outside looking in guess is that malware has set itself up as an internet proxy and is is downloading copies of itself and other malware, blocking some mail port as times as downloading more malware is more important, and probably breaking your tivo as well..
Try the malware programs first. If that does not work I will try and talk you through some logging to see what is happening. -

Updated to 10.6.3, Windows users cannot connect anymore
Up to 10.6.2 my mac was able to do SMB file sharing with Windows users. After this update, they are unable to connect with the mac.
Gerry, thanks so much for your post. In the meantime, though, here's what I've been doing (it seems to work, though it's taking time; I just hope it's the right thing to do):
- I open a year's worth of photos, and choose one; control-click and choose 'Locate Referenced Files'.
- this brings up a huge window; at the top is the photo I'd selected. In the bottom half of the window I can navigate to the right year's folder in my 'Pictures' folder, and then to the right folder in this year, and in fact navigate right down to the exact photo. Once I've selected this photo in the lower half of the window the 'Reconnect all' button (that's been greyed out until now) is selectable. I choose it, and the whole year's photographs are re-referenced.
That seems to do it.
I'd like to have been able to do it more simply and quickly (I like the sound of your plan), but in the half-hour that I was waiting, I thought I'd try something and this seems to work. Let me know what you think of my strategy if you have the time and inclination.

Firefox asks for user name and password even though the proxy auto detection
After upgrading Firefox to ver. 6.01 and next to 6.02 Firefox asks for user name and password of proxy server even though proxy settings are set to Automatic detect proxy settings.
Sorry can't do anything more than offer support. We have been having this problem for months and support is clueless. Do you also have the migrating homepage issue? We can have 3 or 4 different homepage set-ups throughout the day. Between Verizon and FIOS, there isn't an employee in the corporation who cares about customer service. Since the failed email migrations dating back to Spring of 2011, we have had this login situation constantly. Our normal login count for a day is 12. We figure they are regulating traffic by having customers constantly login.

Wow, 1yerdua. That's far too long to be having this messaging trouble. We want to find the resolution fast! If you turn off your Lumia's WiFi (Menu > Settings > WiFi), are you still able to access data-oriented applications like Internet Explorer? Have you been to other areas of the state/country and experienced the same trouble?

Is there a way to have no passwords for either e-mail accounts.
Why am I continuously prompted for my IMAP and I do not know what that password is.Who is the provider of this email account? It can be very hard to distinguish between a PW prompt instigated by the Incoming server vs the Outgoing server. What are the recommended ports to use for each from this provider?
