Windows 8 wakes up from hibernation on its own

Hello guys,
I recently updated to Windows 8. I've found that everytime I hibernate my PC it will automatically wake up on it's own at random times.
I had this issue with Windows 7 and fixed it by disabling wake armed peripherals. I've done this in Windows 8 with no luck.
I checked the automatic maintanance option and that is also disabled from waking up my PC.
I have no idea what else to do. The powercfg -lastwake command shows me no devices, it only says:
Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0
Any ideas on what the issue could be or where I could start looking?

I  have that exact problem as well unfortunately the "powercfg
-devicequery wake_armed"  is largely useless as it is showing only USB mouse and keyboard to be able to wake the computer up and I know nobody touched it in the period when the computer decided to wake up by itself.
Additionally when I physically disconnect the network cable then the computer does NOT wake up by itself anymore. But I already disabled my network card from being able to wake up my computer - why is it waking up with the network cable in? And more
importantly - how can I stop this from happening?
Today I noticed the computer got woken up and immediately clientwindowsupdate program installed some updates. But I have configured the windows update to NOT wake up my computer..

My Dell XPS 8700 which is set to hibernate most of the sleep suddenly wakes up on its own in the middle of the night. It has happened since the last few days every day almost.
Can someone suggest how to overcome this problem.

    Rohit

I was able to solve the problem.
Dell XPS models has 'Allow Wake Timers" enabled on it by default.
I was able to disable it by going to Power Options >Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Sleep> Allow Wake Timers > DIsable
Hopefully now my Desktop will get a good night sleep.

Hi DanHannon, Welcome to the HP Forums!  I understand that your printer is waking up from sleep on its own hourly. I would try the following: 1.) Update the firmware. Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates. 2.) Plug the printer's power cable directly into the wall outlet, not a surge protector. Hope this information helps, and have a great day.

All versions of Photoshop get their fonts from your OS.  Just install any missing font wherever Windows keeps fonts.

I deleted the " Private" folder ... and emptied the trash. So the folder and its contents no longer exists on my computer at all !!!
I do have the OS 10.5 dvd that i purchased years ago...
But my computer will not start from it on its own.
My question is what is the open source or terminal language code used to tell my mac to look in the DVD rom drive for startup info?  I know that im not the only person in this world who has deleted the "PRIVATE" folder and emptied the trash so it no longer exists on their machine...
That said theres gotta be a common fix for a Power PC G4 that has the OS X dvd in the rom drive but wont look to it to reinstall the vital contents of the PRIVATE folder.
Once again there is not a copy of this file or its contents in the recycle bin...
Also rebooting the machine , pressing and holding the letter C does not prompt the machine to look to the dvd rom drive.
I was reinstalling pro tools and figured I would make some room by cleaning my computers HD...
Lol It was a bad choice to delete this file ...
    Thanks guys

Okay sorry it took forever to respond... But for a while there I gave up on this computer!!!!
Money's been tight lately , so taking it in to a professional was not yet an option... though I did consider it eventhough.
Anyway long story short im glad I didnt spend any money because I already had all the tools necessary to fix this issue but was going about it in the wrong way. Okay so here is my scenario and the breakdown... Though this may not fix the issue for everyone :( which *****... But I know we all will have different circumstances.
    Anyway here we go...
Okay so first things first....  Years ago I purchased the OS 10.5.1 disk ... So that has always been in my possession!!!!
I realize that some may not have a disk to reflash your OS to your hard drive... but if you do your in luck.
2ndly ... I had an external harddrive with all of my itunes downloaded music so it was more than okay with me to delete my primary HD because all the important stuff could either be copied over or repathed to be located.
-------If you dont want to read through the whole story the fix is summed up in the bottom section-------
    Okay so now the SOLUTION!!!!
By trial and error , and pure boredom I opened up my computer to clean the inside...
    AND
    "Disconnected the primary HD"
and just because ....... REBOOTED my computer. Just to see what it would do.
Upon restart and though it looked like it would repeat its usual cycle...
About 1 minute in to that process my computer froze for about 2 seconds and flashed to the OS installation screen.
Mind you I havent seen this screen yet... Probably hasnt been since I installed the OS years ago.
After a bit of trial and error...
I decided to tell my computer to startup from the OS 10.5 disk located in my dvd rom drive and restarted once again...
    this setting is under
    Utilities / startup disk
After a little more trial and error ... I realized that I could reconnect the primary HD , restart the machine and return to the OS installation menu.
    So upon this discovery
I went to the Disk Utility located under Utilities
Highlighted my primary HD located in the left hand column
    Once highlighted ...
In the heading section on the right I selected the option
    Erase
in which I erased My current OS on my primary HD ...
I used the first option in the list under security... Because it seemed like the least invasive and would take the least amount of time to see if this process would actually work.
    I FORGOT to add something...
Another reason why I deleted my primary HD!!!!!
I forgot to say that it WOULD NOT!!!!! Show up in the STARTUP list as an option...Even After multiple reboots....
But like clockwork... Once I deleted its name IT SHOWED UP as an option!!!!
So back to the next step...
I returned to the STARTUP option under utilities ... And was then able to see MY primary HD now as a startup option...
But ofcourse it had no name because it we previously erased it.
So when Clicking my newly erased HD ... I was almost immediately prompted to REINSTALL the OS ...
Which said it would take about 57 minutes ... But I believe was alot less...
My issue was resolved ... My computer then stated the install was SUCCESSFUL!!!!!!! :))))))))))) lol ;)
It was like I was setting up for the first time ;) asking for my registration info...
The dilemma of deleting the private folder and emptying the trash is finally over resolved. Done ... and no extra money spent!!!!!!!!!
Its really crazy that the information for such a simple thing is not readily available. Especially being such a simple fix.
I know im not the only person who's had this issue , because i've seen numerous posts with similar wording.
I also know I wont be the last person to have this issue... So I hope this synopsis makes sense.
    -------One more time the fix------
*Insert your OS dvd into your dvd rom drive.
*Unplug your primary HD or corrupted startup disk
    *Reboot your machine...
Upon restart your primary HD will not be recognized...
    * you will then be prompted to select your language.
    Once selected
*Click Utilities/startup... Highlight the the selection that refers to the OS dvd located in the dvd rom drive.
    * Click restart...
!!!!!!!!!!Be sure to reconnect your Primary HD Before your computer restarts and you hear the chime!!!!!!!!
If you do not replug your HD before the chime it will not be recognized.
    In that case restart again.
    Upon restart once again
    *Choose your language...
    *Click Utilities / disk utility
In the left column select and
    *Highlight your HD ...
Then towards the top portion / center of the page
    *Click the heading Erase
Then on the page toward the bottom
    *Click security options
This will then provide erase options.
    I USED THE FIRST OPTION
    "Dont erase data"...
    *click OK
    * click erase...
Once erased which should take a few seconds
    *Cancel the disk utility...
    * Click Utilities / startup
And your newly erased HD should now appear in the list.
    * Select your drive from the list by highlighting
It should no longer have a name.
*Once selected, you will then be prompted to restart and install the OS to your newly erased HD...
    Thats it!!!!
Once everything reinstalls re-add your personal info or registration info and you are up and running.
    Goodluck ;)

    Hi
Did you try to refresh the connection? Something similar happens on my notebook but not with LAN but with WLan. If you right click on the small lan icon you will see the option repair. Check it.
Have found also this possibility. I dont know if it will help but try it.
    1. go to [Start] -> [Control Panel] -> select [System]
    2. On system properties dialog box select [Hardware] tab -> click [Device manager]
    3. On Device manager dialog box select [Networking adapters] -> double click [Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection]
    4. Go to [Advanced] tab -> select [Wake On Settings] property -> Select [Wake on Magic & Directed]
    5. Press [OK] to close the dialog box.

  • IMac wakes from sleep on its own with Yosemite

After installing Yosemite, my iMac wakes from sleep all on its own multiple times throughout the day and night.  The screen does not turn on when this occurs and it goes back to sleep on its own.  I figured the my energy settings may have changed after the upgrade, but nothing is different.  I have no schedule set and the "wake for network access" is unchecked.

To my knowledge, any Mac that is 1. connected to power and 2. not powered down will wake periodically for the reasons I explained, and perhaps for additional reasons known only to Apple. If disabling "wake for network access" does not change anything, all I can say is that it's working as Apple intends it to work. Before you ask, I strongly discourage you from finding clever system "hacks" or workarounds to prevent your Mac from working as designed.
It may or may not be a bug. Whether it is or not though, if it bothers you, consider providing feedback to Apple.
When questions such as yours arise, it helps to look at iOS. iPads and iPhones will all periodically connect themselves for the purposes of downloading emails, Messages, alerts etc. There is no way to disable that, other than to completely power down the device, which almost no one does. Apple has been inexorably changing OS X to effectively implement iOS design features such as this – for better or worse is not for us to say.
May I ask why this concerns you? Perhaps that would lend some insight regarding possible solutions.

  • MacBook Pro keeps waking from sleep on its own

My MacBook Pro keeps waking itself from sleep for no reason.
I had the battery changed for free by Apple (apparently it's one symptom of a problem with the original battery) but it hasn't abated. (Occasionally it won't wake up from sleep too, but that's rare and so not much of a problem). The main issue is its inability to stay asleep.
Anyone else had this? I can't find any advice anywhere else and the Genius Bar at the only store I can get to is always fully-booked.
    Any help much appreciated.

Hi craigie, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In addition to Michael's ideas, there have been some weird sleep issues caused by a System Preference, and although your issue doesn't sound the same, if you run on AirPort (and not Ethernet) I'd check it out anyway:
    -Open System Preferences.
    -Open Network.
-Click on Built-in Ethernet (note what it says underneath it: Not Connected or Inactive; Inactive is what seems to have caused the majority of other issues).
-Click the - button at the bottom of the window to delete the original Ethernet pref.
    -Click Apply.
    -Click the + button.
    -For Interface, select Ethernet.
-For Service Name, enter Built-in Ethernet.
    -Click on Create.
-Make sure your Location is set to Automatic or AirPort (or whatever you normally have it set to).
-Click on Apply and close Preferences.

  • Mac starts up from sleep on its own

Every few months, my iMac will start up from sleep mode on its own. Why does it do this, and is it something to be worried about?
I am  not touching the mouse or keyboard or using any remotely connected devices when this occurs. Thanks!

There are different things that can wake it up, every few months- I wouldn't worry about it.

  • MP '08 waking from sleep on its own

My MP '08 has insomnia! It wakes up during the night on its own, and doesn't go back to sleep.
Really. I double-checked the settings in Energy Saver, and it is not configured to wake automatically. There are no programs running that should be waking it up.
Any ideas how I can stop this from happening?
*Formerly Badlydrawnboy on these forums, but I changed my email address

I used to use wireless keyboard and mouse. Battery consumption and
less functionality (e.g. PRAM rest or disc start up did not work, as the connection
via bluetooth did not "kick in" till lateron) made me move back to wired.
Also had problems with waking the old Power Mac.
Haven't missed the wireless keyboard+mouse at all. I know this does not answer your question but I do not think, it could get solved:
    1) the computer "pairs" with the keyboard. When at "sleep", all connections are severed. So how does the computer know when the "correct" device wants to wake it (otherwise, it might react to mobile phones)
    2) if not paired due to loss of connectivity, it will not recognise until the system is up and running (in order to remember the device). A bit of a conundrum in my books, solvable PERHAPS by the old "if", "and" "or" commands in UNIX

  • Database behaviour after Windows XP resumes from "Hibernation"

I am considering the following power failure handling model:
    1. Connect an APC UPS to PC;
    2. Configure "PowerChute" and PC so to "hibernate" the PC in case of power failure on the mains;
    3. Do NOT shutdown the Oracle DB before the hibernation.
    4. Let the Oracle DB resumes from hibernation. No need to shutdown / startup the database instance.
Are the Oacle DB designed to work properly after resuming from Windows XP hibernation? Any documentation mentioning this scenario? I've do article hunting but in vain.
    Thanks.
    Kenny

I haven't seen any documentation about this and I don't think I would plan for a production environment that has hibernation enabled but I hibernate my laptop all the time. I've nver had a problem with XE working after I resumed.
Normally, TOAD and/or SQL Developer will lose their connection. But that makes sense.

  • Satellite P200-144 shuts down after wake up from hibernation mode

Sometimes when I resume my computer from hibernation, I come back to it (after going to make a cup of tea whilst it boots up, for instance) to find it off again.
I have since observed it more closely and discovered the following: if I resume from hibernation and do not touch the mouse or keyboard, the computer will load up Windows but then hibernate itself again immediately.
If I move the mouse pointer at some point whilst Windows is finishing loading the desktop, etc., then the computer doesn't automatically hibernate.
Has anyone else had this problem and is there a solution?

Thanks for your reply. I am, and always have been, running the latest BIOS. I have never experienced the issue with standby, but that is probably because of the way I use my computer -- with standby, I start using it immediately. I have not tested resuming from standby and not pressing any buttons or moving the mouse.
Have you tested it as I described, by not moving the mouse or pressing any keys when resuming from hibernation, or are you just recalling from memory that you have not experienced it?

Hi! Thank you for your input. I personally recommend this method as well in certain occasions, but we need to remember that not all issues regarding BlackBerry Curve devices not powering up (specifically 9320's) is an issue  can be rectified by this method. It can be an issue with monitor, a software, battery, faulty hardware etc., that's why we need to probe and not assume that placing a piece of paper is the snake oil for 9320 issues. Although it may help sometimes, let's not assure users that this is the solution to their problem.

  • My 2007 Intel iMac is waking from sleep on its own during the early morning hours. Not sure why. Is there a way to find out by looking at some sort of log files or something else?

I'm wondering if someone else is having control of my iMac as it randomly wakes up from sleep while I am sleeping sometime during the night. I've woken up with the light from the monitor brightening my room. Need to find out what is causing it to wake up and stay on. Any suggestions?

I've had this same issue lately. Here's one thing to check: System Preferences > Energy Saver > Wake for Network Access should be unchecked.
Mine is unchecked, so the only other thing I can think of is that it might be Time Machine backing up. My iMac is backing up to an external hard drive, and also sharing that drive over the network so two other Macs can back up as well.
Should be an easy theory to test. Turn off AirPort, unplug Ethernet, and let the iMac sit. See if it still happens.
