windows 7 and itunes 10.4 will not recognize iphone 4. iphone does not show up in device list in iTunes

Found my answer by sifting through all itunes questions. (I tried earlier, but apparently chose the wrong key words. In my successful search I just searched through everything itunes related.) There was a posting where someone indicated they could not open alternative libraries using the option key method, precisely my situation. They stated that they solved the problem by appending a ".itl" at the end of the library file. I tried this myself and sure enough, it worked. Hopefully it will also work for all others who are suffering from this scenario.

• Windows 7 will not recognize the ipod.

I have an ipod 4th touch 64 gig. Windows 7 will not recognize the ipod. It will make the noise of a connection and will only charge. It will not show in my computer as a hard drive. It will show in Itunes and other third party programs. I have searched the net and tried most of the advice to try and fix but will still not show as a hard drive.
Has anyone had this problem and if so is there a fix?
thanks

I did read along the way about some of the ipods not being recognized as a HD. I just installed Iexplorer and looks like it will do the job. As long as I have something other than Itunes to see it as a HD. I use Syncios and Copy Trans and both work great as to transfer music. But to see the ipod as a HD iexplorer will do the Job.
Again my ipod 4th gen will show in my computer but only the DCIM folder and a few other with pictures, no music folder or the control folder from the ipod.
My ipad works great and another ipod the long thin ones work but not this ipod touch 4 gen 64 gig.
Any other suggestions or help much appreciated
thanks for the iexplorer it should help

• My computer (windows 7) will not recognize my iPhone 4s

My iPhone 4s has recently started acting up on my windows 7 computer. It will now not sync to iTunes nor will it even connect/charge on my computer. This was working last night. I've already removed iTunes, reinstalled it. I've made sure mobile me has been restarted. I have made sure only one computer is authorized to use this iPhone. The USB WILL NOT RECOGNIZE error message comes up every single time i plug the iPhone in. I've run scans on all my usb ports and they are all functioning properly.
What am i missing here?

• ITunes 11.1.4 will not recognize iPhone, iPad after Dell BIOS update

I suspect the problems everyone is having are related to the BIOS. I am running a Dell XPS i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz 3.4 GHz with 24 GB RAM, 64 bit OS x64 based processor. OS is Windows 8.1
I just updated my BIOS as suggested by Dell. Now iTunes 11.1.4 will not recognize my iPhone or iPad.
My computer accesses the iPhone or iPad, but iTunes does not recognize them.
This was not a problem prior to updating BIOS.
Is there a fix or patch?
I have to sync my devices for work.
Please no baby-steps replies. Have tried everything including removing devices from device manager and reconnecting to force driver update and try to force iTunes recognition. None of that works.
Thanks!

Here is the fix from Waldo-E3 elsewhere in this forum.
Like I said, no baby steps answers please!
Kudos to Waldo-E3!
RESOLVED...
Found these steps posted elsewhere by another and the solution worked for me...
1. Go to Windows 8.1 Control Panel.
2. Go to Hardware and Sound; Devices and Printers; Unspecified (look for Apple Mobile Device USB Driver)
3. Right-click, then select properties on the menu list.
4. Select the "Hardware" tab at the top When the properties dialog box opens, once more select properties on the lower right hand button.
5. Under the "Driver" tab menu, the update driver button will be grey and unselectable here. So you need to select and click "Change Settings" button located near the lower left corner.
6. Now you can click the "Driver" tab menu near the top, so you can see the "Update Driver" button.
7. Select "Update Driver".
8. Select and click "Browse my computer for driver software".
9. For Windows 8.1 64 bit, it should be located in the folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
10. Click Next, and let the driver re-install.
11. iTunes 11.1.4.62 should open automatically if your iphone is connected already

• My HP Pavillion w/Windows XP will not recognize my new External HDD

HP Pavillion w/Windows XP Media Center m7267c Desktop PC
Is it necessary to pay a outside Driver manager to restor the ability of my PC to instal Driver Software for devices that the specific Mfg states should already have present on my OS?
I purchased a Western Digital 2TB External Drive ( WDBAAUOO20HBK-01 ) to free up my packed Internal HDD. I made sure it was a "USB 2.0" device. But the PC will not recognize the external HDD device.
Please help if you can

BTW...the Drivers that are supposed to work are :
c:\\windows\system.32\DRIVERS\disk.sys
c:\\windows\system.32\drivers\partmgr.sys
....at least those are the Windows drivers that are loaded off my newer Dell PC when the Ext. HDD is plugged into it.

• Itunes 10.5 will not recognize iphone

Just updated to 10.5 itunes - now it will not recognize my iphone 4.3.5. Suggestions?

I am having this problem, but on my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7. Both my iPhone 5 and my wifes iPhone 5 are not recognized in iTunes. Both our old iPhone 4S's come up just fine. Any other work arounds?
I have reinstalled iTunes, restarted both phones, and Mac. Still not recognizable.
EDIT:
Just tried the other cable from my iPhone 5 box, and it works fine. I then tried plugging the faulty cable straight into the wall, and it gets no charge. Faulty cable.

• There is a 3 inch section of the window that will not recognize the mouse. It will not let you click on the icons or screen in any way in this section under the address bar. It is only in firefox where this is a problem

There is a 3 inch section of the window that will not respond or recognize the mouse. It will not let you click on the icons or screen in any way. This is the only program we are experiencing this problem with.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

• Windows 7 will not recognize the dvd drive in my dv9925nr

Windows will not recognize my dvd drive in Windows 7. It shows up under device manager under cd drives, but will not list in in my computer and will not recognize it as a drive in burning applications.

I haven't installed and started testing the BETA yet, just downloading from MS tonight.I would suspect upper & lower filters, since that is the most common cause of cd/dvd problems from XP-Vista.
