Windows 8 wireless connection help

I have just bought a new windows 8 system (HP 2000) and I am having problems connecting to my home wi-fi. This PC and all others that are using this network have a security of Shared and a WEP encryption. this new pc has no Shared option. No other options
work to connect.
Thanks.

I would like to suggest the following:
Please check if the computer can connect to other wireless network or try other encryption methods such as WPA2.
Check if other Windows 8 computer can access the wireless network.
Update the wireless network adapter.
In addition, please check the issue referring to the following documents:
Wired and wireless network problems
Nicholas -  Your answer doesn't address the issue that WEP doesn't appear to be supported in Windows 8.  Yes, we know WEP isn't terribly secure, and we should really be using WPA2.  However, if you are not the network administrator or are
unable to change the security due a legacy device which doesn't support WPA, one would think Windows 8 would retain compatibility.
What HilowB52 is requesting, and what I would like to know as well, is a work around to enable a Windows 8 PC to connect via wireless using WEP encryption.
Best Regards,

  • Windows 7 wireless connection to HP Deskjet 6980

My deskjet 6980 printer has been working flawlessly with Vista for many years.  Since I recently changed to a laptop with Windows 7 64bit I have not been able to connect wirelessly.  I have tried downloading the latest software and installing the printer through Windows but have had not success with either.  I have also tried connecting the printer through a router and through it's own built-in wireless connection.
Is there any way to connect this printer wirelessly to a Windows 7 machine?  Are HP going to introduce software for this in the future?
Any help would be much appreciated as not being able to print is a huge inconvenience!
    Thanks for your time
    Matt

I finally got my deskjet 6980 working on wireless network on Windows 7 64 bit.
Follow the following instructions Exactly! :
    1)      Go Here:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SupportTaskIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&prodS...
    2)      Scroll down to "Network Setup" and click on : HP Deskjet 6840 and 6980 Printer series, and Officejet Pro K550dtwn Printer - Installing the Product...
    Suggestion based on my experience:
    - Follow the instructions closely.
    - I found a couple of steps to be different than indicated in the above links.. those steps were:
    a) Under Step 1 of Wireless Setup Only: "press the network butoon to print the product information" , but actually you gotta press the Report Page Button on the printer (one with image of sheet with a check mark) to printe the product info.
    b) Step 5 of Wireless Setup Only describes setup using advanced options, I just used the available Network Setup Wizard instead
    c) Step 7 and Step 8 of Wireless Setup Only ask you to "Disconnect Ethernet cable from the printer and t\print a test page using microsoft word..", but once i disconnected the ethernet cable the printer couldn't connect to the network wirelessly.  So, I had to restart the Printer, Router and Modem before the printer could connect to the wireless network.  Also, once the printer connects wirelessly to the network you may need to add the wireless Printer to your computer (i.e. Go to Start - Devices & Printers: right-click and delete existing Deskjet 6980 printer cuz that one is probably for wired network.  Then click on 'Add Printer' - select 'Wireless Printer' - select HP Deskjet 6980 from the list generated of all wireless printers available and ADD it and make it default printer.
    Good luck !

  • PS3 80GB Wireless Connection Help

We are struggling to get our 80GB PS3 to wirelessly connect to our Wireless-G Router.
It is set up using a WPA Security. Some one please help! We have done custom set up and put in our IP addresses on our on and we have done easy! The only way we can think of to make it easier is to take the security code off and have an unsecured network, and I do not want to do that.
Please help before I break my ps3 or my router LOL

  • WRT54GL - just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections HELP Please

This router is less that a year old and just today it won't keep wired/wireless connections unless I reset the router and sometimes within 5 mins of a reset, it's out again.  I can go into the Admin/Status page of the router and DCHP release/renew the IP from Cox and that works the same as a reset of the modem.
Can anyone give me an idea what this could be?  Cox looked at the Motorola modem and saw that it was connected for 3 hrs (3 hrs prior I rebooted the modem thinking that was my issue) and they didn't see anything out of the ordinary.
I have the latest firmware installed.

Are you using any peer-to-peer (P2P) software?  If so, this is a known cause for router slow downs and disconnections.  Go into the P2P software, and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.

  • Windows 10 Wireless Connection Issue

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 because I heard it would be fantastic but after the upgrade I could not connect to a wireless router. The router in my home is working fine and connects to other computers in the house as it always has but the upgrade to Windows 10 has completely stopped my ability to connect to wireless internet with this computer. With an ethernet cable I can still use the internet but that is useless because then it basically just becomes a desktop if I always need it plugged in to do everything. My laptop is only a few months old and ran like a charm before the upgrade to Windows 10. I tried to install updates for it while it was plugged into an ethernet but it did nothing. I have searched online to see if there is an update to my laptop that will fix this but nothing has helped. This also happened to a friend who has a Toshiba Satellite. I would post to Microsoft's website since this is obviously a problem with Windows 10 but I have tried to use the Microsoft forums in the past and I always get answers that walk me in circles. The HP Forums have always given me quality answers that actually helped me so I figured I would post here and hope for the best. Thank you to anyone who can help me.  Computer Specs:HP Envy 17t LaptopIntel i7-5500U Processor12GB DDR3L System Memory1TB 5400RPM Hard DriveNvidia GeForce 840M 2GB Graphics CardIntel 802.11ac WLAN and Bluetooth [2x2]

  • Cck, ipad and windows 7. no connection. help, urgent...

    hi
I recently got a CCK. and it won't connect to windows7 anymore (64, up-to-date, brand new cck & usb cable)
I tryed once yesterday and it worked (I could send some midi data). but now it's impossible to establish a connection. i didn't install anything between the moment it worked and the moment it didn't anymore. I just turned of the laptop.
the ipad just doesn't show under "directory". I tried disabling the firewall, reinstalling bonjour & rtpmidi. nothing works.
apparently when I plug the ipad something is also supposed to happen on windows (a pop up, the ipad showing somewhere). it is not the case, nothing happens at all.
what could block the ipad+cck to be connected to windows ?
    thanks in advance

    http://hexler.net/docs/touchosc-configuration-connections-coremidi
glad to make you discover alternative uses of the CCK
    anyway :
according to this site windows is suppoed to recognize the ipad (as a usb peripheral) when plugged with the cck
    http://www.ipadforums.net/ipad-help/47509-transferring-photos-imported-ipad-my-c omputer-after-using-camera-connection-kit.html
but on my computer it doesn't. nothing happens at all
    what could cause this ?

  • Windows mobile wireless connectivity issues

    Hi all,
In our wireless network , windows mobiles 8.0 are not able to connect . The SSID is using WPA2/AES encryption with 802.1x auth. The remaining clients are able to connect to the network and working fine. Even from windows phone 8.1 , I am able to connect to the network. The only difference I am seeing between these two mobiles are supplicant. In WP 8.1 i am able to choose the PEAP/MSCHAPv2 with no server validation options.
In WP 8.0 , it is directly asking for UN/PWD.the WLC is 2504 with 7.2.103.0 code.

The specifications for your unit clearly indicate it is not wifi enabled. What gave you the impression it's wireless?

Ah, I simply fixed it by compiling the driver from source and installing it in that fashion. Everything is good.

  • Officejet J6450 will NOT connect to laptop wirelessly - PLEASE HELP...

    Good afternoon,
I just spent almost two hours on the phone with a woman from the HP Tech Support team that I could barely understand (not exaggerating - would be wonderful to bring back customer service to the US - god knows we need some more jobs here!!).  She had me do a number of things, none of which solved my problem - needless to say, it was a very frustrating two hours and now I am very frustrated!
My issue is that my laptop will not recognize the wireless Officejet J6450.  I have Comcast broadband cable internet, a Linksys wireless router, an HP desktop, and a Dell laptop (laptop is from employer - I work from home).  I loaded all of the software on my desktop first (connected via USB) and everything worked perfectly.  I used the Network Setup Wizard on the printer and connected to my Linksys wireless router with no issue whatsoever (full signal strength).  I printed a wireless netwok report - no problems were found - all diagnostic tests were a success.  The ethernet adapter wireless network connection IP address on my laptop is 192.168.1.102 and the IP address of the printer is 192.168.1.103.  So then I proceeded to load the software to my laptop for wireless connection - thinking all along how easy getting everything set up has been.  I then loaded the software to the laptop and I got to the part where it asks what type of connection I want to set up.  I chose wireless and it asked me to temporarily plug the laptop to the printer via USB cable.  I did so and it began searching for my wireless network.  I selected my wireless network and it began searching for my printer.  This is were I hit the brick wall - it could not find my printer.  I tried again - chose my network, tried to find the printer - no such luck.
I then did a Google search and checked these boards regarding alternative solutions.  I tried installing through Windows printers (BTW - laptop is running XP SP2).  Selected Local Printer, unchecked the automatically select box, chose standard TCP/IP, etc. - that didn't work either.
I consider myself fairly PC savvy and I am perplexed by this - just doesn't make any sense why the laptop won't detect the wireless printer.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance regarding my connectivity issue as I do NOT want to call HP Tech Support back.
One other thing, the Tech Support lady told me to reset the printer by turning it off and then having me press the pound button and the number 6 before turning it back on.  Not sure why she had me do this, but it reset the ink cartridges and alignment and now the printer no longer reports how much ink is left.  Any way to fix that?
Lastly, out of curiosity, why does HP recommend not leaving the wireless enabled on the printer when not using it?  Doesn't make any sense to have to turn off wireless everytime after printing and then turn it back on when needing to print again.
Sorry for this long post - hopefully this is enough information for you to help me out.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jeremy

    Hi Jeremy,
First, I have no idea why we are recommending turning off the printer's radio when you are not using it.  The only thing I can image is that if you leave the radio on and in its default configuration (SSID = hpsetup, no security, Ad-Hoc), then you are susceptible to neighbors or war-drivers using your printer.
Next, you have an interesting problem.  You've done everything I would have tried (check connectivity by browsing the printer's internal web page, turn off the firewall, try to manually add the printer).
I know you've disabled the firewall.  I might recommend uninstalling the firewall temporarily, then installing the SW again to see if that works.  Also, you might check to see that you don't have another firewall accidentally enabled (maybe the Windows firewall?).
Finally -- is there anything unusual about your wireless-router configuration?  Have you set any port-forwarding or other advanced settings?  BTW -- what model wireless-router are you running?
And of course there's a rather painful step to try that usually works:  reinstall the OS on your laptop and then install the printer SW (I'm somewhat embarrassed to suggest this but it does seem to work).

  • Having a problem with wireless connection. On my Windows XP 32 bit system and a 6510 printer, initi

On my Dell Latitude D620, Windows XP 32 bit system and my 6510 printer wireless connection (Linksys EA4500) , everything works fine after the computer is booted.  After a period of time (usually overnight), I lose connection to the printer (the scanner icon with a red x is shown on my Windows task bar and I can't print.  Ran Windows Fix and the HP fix programs.  The only thing that solves it is to reboot the computer.  A second symptom is that my IE8 stops connecting to the internet at the same time (gives a 'waiting for' response that never changes).  Firefox still connects OK when this is happening.  So I suspect the problem isn't with the printer, but with my Windows set up.  It is a fresh XP SP3 install (hard drive crashed, but it happened before also).  I reset IE, checked my proxy, no malware, happens with or without firewalls and security programs.
Hoping that someone else has run into this problem.  Been all over Google, and the IE doesn't work / Firefox works is fairly common, but none of the fixes helps.

If you want you can reload Firefox 4.0 or the last "old" version is 3.6.16 and is available here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Just reinstall your choice of FF. The bookmarks are in a different directory and are NOT overwritten. Some of the Add-ons that worked in 3.6 DO NOT work with 4.0, pay attention and head any warnings when you start 4.0.
I had to disable extensions: Flashblock and WOT
Firefox SafeMode? - A troubleshooting mode.
1.You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.

  • Can't set up wireless connection for HP C4385 All-In-One with Windows 7.

    Hi guys,
I just got a new laptop with Windows 7 64 bit. I already had an HP C4385 All-In-One that I was using with my last computer. I have also just set up a new wireless network because I got a new cable provider. So basically I needed to do everything from the beginning.
When I inserted the setup CD and ran the setup program, it said I couldn't continue because my OS was not supported. I went to the HP website and found the solution, which was to plug the printer in via USB and let Windows Update find the latest driver. Ok, that's fine, the printer works now when the USB cord is plugged in.
To set up the wireless connection, the instruction manual says I need to do it through the network setup wizard p on the CD. But that brings me back to my original problem-- the setup CD won't work because it doesn't recognise Windows 7.
So my question is-- how can I update the network settings (SSID and key) on the printer without the network setup wizard?
Thanks for any help, this is really driving me crazy!

  • LaserJetP2015dn Wireless Connection problems and Windows 8.1

I just purchased a Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1 touch screen.   I didn't have any trouble downlowning printer drivers for the P2015dn and the printer works just fine.   However, now I can't get the wireless connection to work so I can print wirelessly.  I'd appreciate any help out there - thanks!

Also, on your online "Wireless Printing Center", I am seeing "Windows 8: Launch the Printer Software from the Start screen (using the icon for your printer model) or from the tile named for your printer."  However, I do not see this icon on my Start screen.  Only the "Wireless Configuration", "HP ePrint", and "HP LaserJet Guide".
