Windows ACS 4.2.0 backup database on acs 1120 appliance 4.2.1.15

Hi All ,
            I am running windows based acs 3.3 in my lan environment going to be replaced with acs 1120 appliance running acs 4.2.1.15 , ACS 3.3 database has been built upto  4.2.0.124 ,step by step by upgrade process
1) acs 3.3.3.14---> 4.1.1.24
2) acs 4.1.1.24 ----> 4.2.0.124 .
              now my database is with 4.2.0.124 dmp file , I cannot upgrade my database to 4.2.1.15 because 4.2.1.15 patch is not applicable & executable  on 90 days evalution package of 4.2.0.124 of windows platform .
           can i import my windows based 4.2.0.124 datbase directly to my acs appliance running 4.2.1.15.3 ??? , else its requires any step to be done to modify the windows based databse matching to appliance windows verison once .
                    I could see on appliance under restore settings the following options (restore from 4.2.0 backup file to acs 4.2.1),kindly suggest on this

Hi Anisha\Devashree ..
                   Awsome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx for your great support on this , I will try to restore database directly to my appliance running 4.2.1.15.3 and let you know if i find any diffuculties ....
                   My databse is about 15MB, if i found any diificutlies during restoring , i will downgrade my appliance to  base version of  4.2.0.124 then i will restore my 4.2.0.124 database by enabling restore option from 4.2.0.124 to 4.2.1. And i will apply the patch , Thank you .
Devashree : There should not be any problem right ?? by enabling restoring option from 4.2.0.124 to 4.2.1 during system restore , if your appliance is running acs version 4.2.0.124 as a operating one

    Hi,
    i have 4 X ACS-1120. Each 2 are operating as an Primary and backup. I want to add a license in order for the ACS to support more than 500 networks which includes in the base license.
    As I understand this is the license required : L-CSACS-5-LRG-LIC=
    Is this license applicable to ACS-1120 appliance with ver 5.2 ? – I understand that it is.
    for my scenario, do I need to purchase total of 2 X L-CSACS-5-LRG-LIC= (one for each environment, one license will serve 2 X ACS in Primary and Backup) or I need to purchase 4 licenses each for each ACS ? – I understand that one license will serve deployment of two ACS in primary and active scenario.
    Appreciate your help,

    Appreciate your help,

    The large license is required for ACS 5.2 with more than 500 devices
    You need one license for each primary; so in your case two license are required

  • Why Backup database then backup archivelog from time...

    Dear Experts,
    I found in one of our rman scripts the 2 following statements:
    backup database;
    backup archivelog from time 'SYSDATE -8';
    It seems to me that a "backup database plus archivelog;" is more simple/accurate instead of these 2 lines as the retention windows is defined (5 days) for this DB so rman will manage the retention of datafiles and archived log, isn't it ?
    Why this separate statement for the archivelog ? I find it redondant but is it...
    Any advice is as usual greatly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    Guillaume

    You are right. The use of backup database plus archivelog; is much better and you are sure that you backup all archived log you need.
    Probably that is an old script, previous version or the responsable of this script didn't know RMAN so good and the option you posted.
    Bye, Aron

  • BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.

    Hi,
    We have a back up that is failing.
    The error is "BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE RPS. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.".
    As I understand it the backup application log is at C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQL\LOG. From that all I get is
    2014-03-05 14:49:29.41 Backup      Error: 3041, Severity: 16, State: 1.
    2014-03-05 14:49:29.41 Backup      BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE myDb. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.
    The command I am using is
    BACKUP DATABASE [MyDb]
    TO  DISK = N'D:\Domains\SQL_Backup\DB\myDb\Mydb_FullBackup_20140305_1100.bak'
    WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT,  NAME = N'mydb-Full Database Backup', SKIP, NOREWIND, NOUNLOAD,  STATS = 10
    GO
    The database is Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64-bit) Version 9.00.1399.06.
    The computer is Windows server 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP2
    The Db is 191 Gb and there is 227 Gb available on the D drive where it's being backed up to.
    Any thoughts as to how I can track down the problem.
    Is the 227Gb of spare disk space big enough to back up a 191 Gb database?
    If not how much is needed?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Can you apply latest service pack .I dont know but guess that can be issue.Once faced ,not quite sure.Also can you just make your command like
    BACKUP DATABASE [MyDb]
    TO DISK = 'D:\Domains\SQL_Backup\DB\myDb\Mydb_FullBackup_20140305_1100.bak'
    WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, STATS = 10
    GO
    Just a simple one .Is backup failing immediately or after some time .Error is not so helpful as it does not shows any information

  • "Backup optimization on" is not working for "backup database"

    Hi,
    I am using a windows environment and my database info is like this:
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    CORE    11.2.0.1.0      Production
    TNS for 64-bit Windows: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Productionnow, I change my configuration for backup optimization on and then make example tablespace offline and also make example datafile offline. After that I run 2 times "Backup Database" command but 2 backup has same size and have example tablespace too... Backup archivelog all is working bur backup database is not!
    according to this link it must not backup example datafile for second: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmconfb.htm#BRADV113
    is there something that I missed ?
    rman configuration:
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO REDUNDANCY 5;
    CONFIGURE BACKUP OPTIMIZATION ON;
    CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '%F'; # default
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 1 BACKUP TYPE TO BACKUPSET;
    CONFIGURE DATAFILE BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG BACKUP COPIES FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO 1;
    CONFIGURE MAXSETSIZE TO UNLIMITED; # default
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION FOR DATABASE OFF;
    CONFIGURE ENCRYPTION ALGORITHM 'AES128'; # default
    CONFIGURE COMPRESSION ALGORITHM 'HIGH' AS OF RELEASE 'DEFAULT' OPTIMIZE FOR LOAD TRUE;
    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO NONE; # default
    CONFIGURE SNAPSHOT CONTROLFILE NAME TO 'C:\APP\ABC\PRODUCT\11.2.0\DBHOME_1\DATABASE\SNCFORCL.ORA'; # default

    If you enable backup optimization, then the BACKUP command skips backing up files when the identical file has already been backed up to the specified device type.
    1. In case of datafile RMAN compares the DBID, checkpoint SCN, creation SCN, and RESETLOGS SCN and time as a datafile already in a backup. If they are identical then skip to take backup again.
    2. In case of archived redo log RMAN compares thread, sequence number, and RESETLOGS SCN and time.
    3. In case of backupset RMAN compares recid and stamp.
    Backup optimization applies to only commands,
    -BACKUP DATABASE
    -BACKUP ARCHIVELOG with ALL or LIKE options
    -BACKUP BACKUPSET ALL

  • Should I keep media after "BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG"?

    Hi there,
    If I do full backup like this ...
    BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG
    ... do I have to keep copy of media (database files)? I am under impression that as long as my recovery window falls between "BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG" and NOW ... I don't have to keep media files.
    Am I right or wrong?
    Thanks to all answers!

    Sure..if you don't need to restore back to one of the previous backups, then they are no longer needed.
    Configuring a retention policy will handle this maintenance for you automatically.
    However, some people will keep them around as a fall back if something should happen to their most recent backup. It depends on your paranoia level and amount of disk/tape space that you have.

  • RUN "delete noprompt obsolete" before "backup database"

    Hello,
    11g on windows 2003, 3 day recovery window
    For almost a year now, I having been running the below script daily to backup my database. Now I am begining to run out of disk space, and can not run the backup commands unless I run "delete noprompt obsolete" first.
         backup database tag=database_full_backup;
         backup archivelog all delete input tag=achivelog_backup;
         crosscheck backup;
    delete expired backup;
         delete noprompt obsolete;
    Is it a bad idea to rearange the order of the commands like below?
    crosscheck backup;
    delete expired backup;
         delete noprompt obsolete;
    backup database tag=database_full_backup;
         backup archivelog all delete input tag=achivelog_backup;
    thanks for any help

    Hi,
    No problem. You configured a recovery window of 3 days, it means you want to be able to restore/recover until sysdate - X (X up to 3) at any time. RMAN will always respect that, you can "delete obsolete" whenever you want.
    Best regards
    Phil

    I altered it in archivelog mode.
    Now I can run a backup database command from rman?What does it cost to try it and see? What would be the worst thing that could possibly happen? An error message saying you can't do that?
    And please note, this forum is not a chat line. Operators are NOT standing by. Posting a new message every two minutes to give an update on the fact that the database hasn't shut down yet is not necessary and not productive.
    If there are a lot of pending transactions when you issue SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE, they will all have to be rolled back as part of the shutdown. That can take some time. And if you bypass that with SHUTDOWN ABORT, they will have to be rolled back as part of instance crash recovery on the next startup, which will also take some time. Five minutes may feel like an eternity when you are sitting there waiting for your command to complete, but is no reason to panic.

  • Windows 8.1 System Image Backup issues

    All,
    Running a Satellite P50-S PSPMHC-01M00P with Windows 8.1.
    When attempting to create a System Image Backup in Control Panel > System and Security > File History, using a target of \\hostname\share\dir (using an NetBIOS /TCP/IP session with an account that has read/write privileges). A dialog box says
    "There is not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location. Make sure that, for all volumes to be backup up, the minimum disk space for shadow copy creation is available. This applies to both the backup storage destination and volumes included in the backup. Minimum requirement: For volumes less than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 50 megabytes of free space. For volumes more than 500 megabytes, the minimum is 320 megabytes of free space. Recommended: At least 1 gigabyte of free space on each volume if volume size is more than 1 gigabyte. (0x80780119)"
    The target is a device to which I am able to connect over \\hostname\share\dir with read/write privileges. I am able to read and write files from that network share using the file history feature as well as manually add/delete files. My C:\ volume has 857GB of 917GB total free.
    A browse around reveals that I should resize the volumes to give space to each volume, but I want to save the images from bare metal before doing anything (actually wanting to go to Win7 maybe since 8.1 pretty much stinks). That includes resizing partitions... is there a way to stage this to the local filesystem first without having to write to all the local volumes? Or buy more software which you would think would already be with the device?
