Windows and dialogs, when resizing, auto-update UI?

How do you allow the ui to keep being updated as you resize a window or dialog? I keep seeing the border move, then when I stop it updates the UI. I know its faster, but I was just curious of the other could be done?

Thanks. It works, but definitely noticeably slow. Even on a PIV1.8Ghz with 1GB memory I see that it doesn't update very smoothly. It seems if I move the pane slowly it will update alright, but if I move it even partly fast, it doesn't refresh until the move is done. Definitely shows the slowness of swing compared to native.

I keep loosing my windows and tabs when FF must be closed for updates

Everytime when I have to close my FF windows and their tabs for i.e. an update/upgrade, FF starts up only with Mozilla Firefox-startpage, instead of my old (closed) windows with their tabs. How do I get them back? Under History "Recent closed Windows" and "Recent closed Tabs" are greyed out. How do I get them back?

Need to suppress Windows Security dialog when connecting to CRM WCF service from application

I am currently developing a Windows desktop application that uses the CRM WCF service as a data source. The CRM environment uses AD authentication. The problem I have is that our domain enforces a password expiration policy, so every three months each user's
CRM password changes, and the one stored for the user (in encrypted form) in the application becomes invalid.
When that happens, after logging into the application, the user is presented with a Windows Security dialog asking them to enter their network user credentials. If they do so the first time, they're asked up to a dozen more times, to authenticate a bunch
of OrgServiceProxy objects in a pool. This is confusing, frustrating, and dangerous from a security mindset (don't want the user getting too comfortable entering network credentials into every dialog that asks). I want to suppress this popup, and instead have
the CRM authentication immediately throw the SecurityNegotiationException I'm expecting if the credentials passed are wrong. The app will catch that and direct the user to the User Maintenance screen where they can update their credentials.
I know it's possible to put the site in a zone with custom security settings suppressing this prompt, but Group Policy to do that is kind of heavy-handed and could have unintended consequences. I would prefer a programmatic "quick fix" for now,
until we can re-architect the application's security layer to do all authentication against AD.

Windows XP Permissions vs AIR Auto Update

Hello All,
I've just started getting into AIR, and I've run into an
issue. I'm planning an app that would be distributed to Windows XP
users with limited accounts. The issue I'm currently trying to
tackle is how to get the application to auto update when a user
opens it from a limited account. Currently it gives me the error:
"An error occurred while updating the application. Try updating it
again. If the problem persists, contact the application author.
Error# 0".
Since I'm a Mac guy, I don't know too much about permissions
and account settings in XP. Is there a way to simply give the
application the necessary permissions without having the user have
to login every time like the "Run with different credentials"
option.

No, there's no way around this. Prevent applications from
updating themselves is part of what limited accounts are supposed
to do.
You might try finding out how software is normally updated
for these machines. That's probably the path you want to take for
this application, too.

Entourage vanished when I auto-updated my macbook. time machine rescue me?

I am using a macbook 2.4 intel core duo. 10.5.8 (haven't updated to snow leopard yet).
I hit auto update and... my entourage program vanished from the computer. Not a trace.
I have my main identity backed up in time machine.
And... I can not find the original disk for Office (I find this to be an important and frustrating detail--I paid $199 for the educator version of Office! I am a legit paying customer.
Can anyone give me some advice as to what to do?
It would annoy me to no end to buy another copy of office... but I would spend 200 to get entourage back on track. i need those old emails.
My next question involves how to use time machine in this matter: I have never had to back up an entire application. And, re time machine, i have never actually used it. I don't want to synch my computer to the version it was a week ago when it happened... don't quite grasp my options.

My tabs are all empty even though I have FF 29.0.1 set to save windows and tabs when closing

I have the setting: Startup - When firefox starts - show windows and tabs from last time.
This almost always works, but not today. The odd thing is that all the tabs are still there, including the pinned ones on the left (square empty boxes), but all the tabs are blank ("New tab").
Except one that appeared on startup, the one that was active when i closed FF last night.
If I click on History - Show all history = No items.
Restore previous session is greyed out, as are Recently closed tabs and windows.
It looks bad, what can I do to restore the previous session?
How would this have happened, and how can I prevent it in future?
Did the last FF update (today or yesterday) have anything to do with it?
There is a sessionstore.bak-[long string of numbers] dated 8/2/14, and a sessionstore.js dated 9/5/14, and a sessioncheckpoints,json dated 9/4/14 in the Profile default folder.

I'm a little puzzled that your post shows Firefox 29.0.1 but you said you updated this week (Firefox 32.0 was released this week). ???
One of your settings is '''places.history.enabled''' = false, which could be a problem for saving history. I'm not sure how that could have gotten switched. Could you check here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
Under "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history" make sure you have the settings you want.
Note: I think I have read that if Firefox is set to clear history at shutdown, then Firefox might not save any history during your session.
Can you find an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop? If the Reset feature ran, your old data would be in that folder and we could discuss how to restore them.

AIR runtime on Windows 2003 Server - switch off auto-updates???

Trying to switch off auto-updates in Win 03. Have tried:
- Adobe settings manager
- Updating Windows registry keys
Nothing works..updates are still requested
Any ideas..?

Could you check to see if a file named updateDisabled is present in either of these two folders (I suspect the Win 2003 folder would be similar to XP)?

That should take care of it on a per user basis. For the registry, did you have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\AIR\UpdateDisabled set to 1?

Chrome 15/16, and IE8/9 Now Auto-updating

I'm curious if/when Adobe will be updating BrowserLabs to include rendering with Chrome 15 and 16. Also, what patch levels are the IE8/IE9 rendering engines at? Microsoft now has auto-updating enabled in IE8/IE9 so updates are more frequent and automatic. I'm noticing that the results I'm seeing on BrowserLabs don't match what I'm seeing in my desktop versions of these browsers.

Yep. You are definitely having trouble keeping pace.
And not simply because the open-source-based Browser developers have a rapid deployment cycle. Microsoft does not have that same cycle - and neither does Apple. And yet Adobe isn't even keeping pace w/ the tweaks that they release for their current Browser versions.
Case in point IE 8 is displaying incorrectly in Browser Lab while it displays correctly in the actual Browser. I only discovered this after 2 days of CSS tweaks to figure out why come CSS3 was not showing up in ABL. (developing on a Mac) THen by random chance I happened to log into a Win Box that had IE8 installed and confusion set in for a minute when I realized the CSS had ben working correctly the entire time and that ABL was in fact in error.
IF you are going to have a product such as this - it would be in your best interest to put noticeably more focus into it - as your biggest audience is going to be developers that need to be able to keep pace w/ the correct implementations of the given Browser Versions - otherwsie - it's a waste of a product and developer time to use it.
Get real - IE 8 has been out for a while now - if you can't keep up w/ the once in a while tweaks that Microsoft puts out for that specific version - why the hell have it available ?
Please do not let this slip into the gutter the way the DW Dev Team allowed the Spry Framework to do. I am getting to the point where I only use Adobe products anymore because I have no alternative (like InDesign) or because there is lack of a better option (like PS or DW). (yes - there are alternatives out there but they are garbage and Adobe's product development in the past few years reeks of too much ego because you all know there are less favorable alternatives. Point is you are getting sloppy.
And Mark no offense - but your explaination does not cut it bud. All I read in that is PR spin. You guys are at the top in the industry - you should be pushing and setting the standard not making excuses as to why you can't keep up w/ the standard.

I need help identifying and removing annoying gadget that shows all open windows and applications when I mouse over a corner.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Some time ago I installed a gadget (doesn't seem to be an item in my Applications folder) which, when I mouse-over the lower-left corner of my screen, brings up a screen showing reduced-size versions of all open application windows and Finder windows. I've tried to identify what it is, and where it is located, so I can remove it, but to no avail.

Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Check the System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts.

I'm in UK but am getting Errors 503, 105007 and 105002 when trying to update

I'm in UK but am getting Errors 503, 105007 and 105002 when trying to publish updates to 2 websites. System maintenance is going on right now in US and Australia but nothing about Europe. its Sunday 1900 here ( UTC+1)
I was getting the same errors about 20 hours ago too - surely maintenance in US won't affect Europe and wouldn't prevent publishing for 24 hours?
Any suggestions = I guess the Adobe help desk will be SNAFU

When I auto-update, album artwork goes bye-bye

I have album artwork for all of my songs on my iTunes. If I upload the songs manually to my iPod, all the artwork shows up. Then if I add a song or two to the iTunes library and then choose auto update to update the iPod to match my music library, all the album artwork disappears. Does anyone know what is going on here??

You need to have your computer connected to the Internet in order for it to find the track info for a CD - it accesses the online GraceNote database to match song profiles. Only if your music isn't already there (which is very unlikely) will it not come up with something.
For the album artwork, it is not contained on the CD itself. You need to search for it. Most people find it on Amazon.com. Click until you get to the big (~300x300) image, save it and edit it on your PC, then drag and drop it into the box in iTunes where it says "drop album artwork here".

When Firefox shows me an update and asks if I'd like to update, I click continue, but it doesn't update. It just goes to a "software update" window and says "connecting to the update server..." and then doesn't do anything else. It never updates. HELP!

26 Aug 2010: auto update to Java 6.0.621 has stopped Firefox working. I used Add/Remove to remove the update and Firefox launched and displayed the website I was at (UK's Postal Museum) when the auto-update happened. What should do?

During the install routine I thought I had said OK to the process of automatically updating associated addons so when the Postal Museum prompted for an update to a new release of Java I let it happen. I sent them an email but do not remember closing down Firefox. Hour later, I clicked the Firefox button to launch it again; two seconds of eggtimer then nothing else. Tried to launch it from Start/Programs/Mozilla/Firefox. Same eggtimer. (Running WindowsXP on a middle-aged desktop).

No toolbar and nothing on bottom of page to show me my other open windows.at all after firefox auto updated on it's own w/out even prompting me as usual.

( soubds similar to other ppls prob., but w a twist or two. now no toolbar, so ur answer to click bookmarks or whatever doesn't help me n there is no sidebar. also, i no longer can see which other windows i have open at the bottom of the page so i can switch back w/out minimizing the current window. the url box doesn't show until i move the cursor over that top area. i love firefox, but w this and the older version locking up my computer on occasion and not disconnecting from the internet idk what's going on at firefox to cause subpar performance and causing near strokes or heart attacks in ppl.

Your Firefox may have been in full screen mode. You can switch between full screen and normal mode using the F11 key.
Do you have the orange Firefox button (abbreviated two-column menu) on the title bar? If you prefer the classic menu bar, tap the Alt key, and use View > Toolbars > Menu Bar to restore it. You can also use View > Toolbars to turn other toolbars on and off.
