Windows Applications and AirPort N

I have a W2k PC on my LAN hardwired to an Airport Ethernet port. A web log analysis application runs weekly reports to co-located servers across town. The application uses FTP to access the web logs and to post HTML reports. Since switching from my Belkin router to the AirPort Extreme N the application will not work. I have Internet access on the PC. I can access the logs using the application configuration tool but the reports fail due to the FTP connection being dropped.
Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

...but my PC still doesn't see the 5ghz network...I have a bufflow adapter WLI-UC-GN....
Does it support 5GHz?  If the below link is the correct user manual, it only mentions 2.4 and not 5GHz.

  • Can Bootcamp and Parallels share the same Windows applications and data?

I'm looking at getting an Intel iMac which will let me throw away my old PC - Yeah!
I will have a couple of Win apps that I will need to hang on to (Quicken - Quicken for Mac is horrible, but that's another tghread). Anyway, can Bootcamp and Parallels share the same Windows applications and data?
My thought would be to allow my wife to access Quicken from Parallels and not have to reboot. She will only need lightweight access and the overhead of running virtualization wouldn't impact her. I, on the other hand, would want to occasionally boot natively into Windows and run the same application with the same datafile. Is this possible?
Thanks and looking forward to joining the MacIntel world!

Thanks for all of the freplies. I suspected that BootCamp and Parallels could not shar ethe same partition, but wanted to verify. To address some of the other posts:
Re: Quicken vs MoneyDance - I looked at MoneyDance a while back and while it is comparable to Quicken for Mac, it isn't comparable to Quicken for Windows (ergo, Quicken for Mac isn't comparable to Quicken for Windows!). But, as I said, that is a topic for another thread!
Re: Using Bootcamp/Parallels for only one app: I actually have several apps that I still need access to on Windows. I work with many business applications than only run/are supported on Windows as well as receive some complex Office documents which Office for Mac cannot handle. Quicken (for Windows 2007) was just the best example of a consumer app where I could see wanting access from both OS X and Windows.

  • Windows Vista and Airport Express

I can connect my Airport Express to my wireless router via an ethernet cable and get up the configuration page - easy!
    Now for the difficult bit!
I cannot get Airport Admin Utility to recognise the Airport Express (base station in Apple Speak!) when I disconnect from the router.
Airport Express really sounds a great way to connect ITUNES to remote speakers etc but it is necessary to get it working with Windows Vista and get the wireless function working.Anybody sucessfully done it? Please only respond if you have managed to do this personally!

William - I am in a similar place.... I have an airport express running as an extension to my home wireless network. I have a TC that I use as my router. My macs can connect to my network (of course) but the windows vista laptop (sony vaio) does not...... HELP! Have you been able to get any answers??

  • Windows 8 and Airport Express

I now have Windows 8 and I cannot connect to my AirPort Express.  Do I need new drivers to fix this?

The driver should not matter as long as the laptop is not set with a static internal address - and make sure that your modem is working properly - Windows 8.1 by default will automatically connect to a properly configured Express by choosing the network and entering the password - if you have changed any settings different from factory settngs then change them back to the original - make sure that your Express is configured as follows:
Internet connection = PPOE - be sure to enter your logon info correctly
Wi-fi Mode = create a wireless network - connected via ethernet
Name your wireless network - use a simple name
    Security = WPA2 Personal
Password = 8 characters of your choice - use letters or numbers only - no caps
Router Mode = DHCP and NAT
    IPV6 = link local only
    Leave eveything else as default
Once it is configured properly, unplug all devices or power them down and then power up starting with the Modem - be sure to remove and replace the battery if present -- wait for it to fully boot - then plug in the Express and wait for a green light - then turn on the laptop - then choose  your wireless network and enter the password.

  • Windows 8 and Airport

I am using the latest version of Airport Utility.
My windows 8 laptop can connect to the internet through my Airport Extreme, likewise I have no problems file or printer sharing on my network of mixed widows and apple machines but Airport Utility can't find either my Airport Express or Extreme
Anyone know why and how to resolve?

Make sure all names are SMB compatible.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
    Apple names can be problematic.
There may be other issues but start there..
Open a command window.. and ping the AE by name and by IP address.. if the later works but the former fails the DNS is not working. Or the firewall has blocked access.. turn off the firewall.. make sure the computer is set to home not work or public location.

  • Windows 7 and Airport Extreme disk do not connect

I have three windows computers (XP, VISTA & 7) and one mac mini all sharing a drive connected to my airport extreme. I can access the drive fine with computers except windows 7.
My configuration on the airport was to prompt for a disk password, so I changed it to ask for username and password and I still cannot connect.
I have tried to map it via \\10.0.1.1\Disk and also \\extreme\Disk neither work.
I have been able to connect or at least it appears to connect by showing me the drive listed in windows 7, but none of the files are present. Windows xp and vista show the files fine and still can connect.

But currently have it working with the Win 7 defaults of:
    1) "Send NTLMv2 response only" for "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level"
    2) "Require 128-bit encryption" for "Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients"
also, my "Windows Search" is enabled.
I might end up revisiting these ideas though, because if I disconnect the network drive from the PC and then try to remap it, I run into some of the same problems that occurred in the initial troubleshooting - in other words I cannot just map the drive, need to reboot.
So the problem that I had in summary:
    - I had gotten the Airport Extreme shared USB drive to connect to the PC by first a reboot and then connecting via wireless to the Airport Extreme
    - If I disconnected from the shared drive on the PC, then I could not re-map it (I could get it back by the reboot / connect mentioned above): Windows was asking for "user name" and "password" when I went through the "Map network drive", following the ideas specified in "AirPort: How to mount an AirPort Extreme USB hard disk volume in Mac OS X and Windows" (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1331?viewlocale=en_US)
After more monkeying and searching around, I found that could fix this by:
1) On the PC, go to Start, type "advanced share" in the search box. This will take you to "Change sharing options for different network profiles" (can also get there by going to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings).
    2) Once there, go down to the bottom "Password protected sharing" and click "Turn off password protected sharing". Save your changes.
    3) Disconnect / reconnect to your Airport Extreme - I am doing it via the primary (non-guest) wireless.
Then, whenever I connect to the primary (non-guest) wireless on Airport Extreme, the share automatically maps itself. I can disconnect from it (the share) and it will disappear from under My Computer. To reconnect to it (the share), I just recycle the wireless connection. And, if I log on to the guest network, the share is not visible, which is how I would expect it to perform with my settings.
In Control Panel Microsoft describes "Password protected sharing" as:
When password protected sharing is on, only people who have a user account and password on this computer can access shared files, printers attached to this computer, and the Public Folders. To give other people access, you must turn off password protected sharing.
Maybe I am just tired from pounding away at this (yes, still using the "Monkey Theory" analogy - it is actually listed as the "Infinite monkey theorem" on Wikipedia if you want to read about it) but the whole thing still doesn't make much sense to me.
As far as why changing Network security policies may work for some and not others is a bit of a mystery. I did pursue this further and ran Wireshark while I changed these settings around. There were some differences in the "Negotiate Protocol Request" and "Negotiate Protocol Response" sequence, as would be expected but the end result for me was just keeping the default Win 7 values and making the changes mentioned above to get things working.
Otherwise, in Wireshark, I could just continually see as the PC got rejected for an attempt to logon to the share with its credentials, which I could not effectively change via the "Map network drive".
I also just ended up Turning off network discovery from the control panel (same location as mentioned above). Now, if I try to browse in the "Map network drive" , I get a popup that sates:
"Network discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Please turn on network discovery in Network and Sharing Center."
Yet, there is my nicely mapped Airport Extreme shared drive, sitting under My Computer, fully accessible and listed as a Network Drive. So, I am not sure what is really more baffling, the semantics or the technology that is at work underneath it.
I would love to hear if anyone else can get things working by doing any of the above.

  • Windows Vista and Airport Extreme USB Disc

While I'm thrilled with my multiple Macs and their effortless ability to connect to my printers and USB hard drive on my Airport Extreme, my wife's new Windows Vista confuser isn't quite as seamless.
When I try to connect to my hard drive using Windows Vista's version of the Airport Disc Agent I get the message:
Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the login information or contact the disk's administrator.
That would be me. I called myself and realized that I'm using the same password as on my Macs, but I keep getting this blankety-blank message.

I found a very, very effective solution to the problem.
I returned the lousy Vista machine yesterday morning and bought a MacBook. Within 10 minutes of unpacking it I was on the network, I had access to the hard drive and I was even able to sync my contacts with my other computers.
It was easy and worked the first time. Which is why the Vista machine went back to the store and was worth taking the 15% hit that Best Buy charges to restock computers.

  • Windows 7 and Airport Extreme problems

I've switch the airport extreme a few months ago, from a linksys router. Ever since switch my pc laptop drops/loses the wireless connection. The PC is running Windows 7. I have taken the laptop to another place that has a wireless network and never lose a connection. It will connect fine, just every so often it will drop the connection.
However my MacBook Pro and PS3, both connected over the wireless network never lose connection. And I do a lot of online gamine and it works great. Can anyone point me in the right direction on fixing the problem?
    Thanks

I'm having the same issue. My desktop pc keeps dropping the connection to my network (airport extreme router) while the rest of my devices (macbook pro, xbox, mac mini) still stay connected. The pc never had this issue prior to installing Windows 7 so im guessing there must be something with the Windows 7 OS.

  • Windows 7 and Airport Express

I have a Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium on it and want to use a printer that is connected to an Airport Express. I can see the Airport Express with the Airport Utility But I can't see the printer to add it. I can use the same printer with my Mac hooked up to the Airport Express and I can use it with my Mac when I use Bootcamp to boot to Windows XP Pro. I just can't get it to work with the Laptop that has Windows 7.

    Leonard,
You didn't mention whether you installed Bonjour for Windows on the Windows 7 laptop. Is that the case?
I haven't worked with Windows 7, but we installed Bonjour for Windows on an XP SP3 laptop and were printing in about 30 seconds. It's also on the CD that came with the AirPort Express if you don't want to download it.

  • Issues with Windows firewall and Airport Extreme

    Hi all,
I'm having some issues with my Airport Extreme and Windows Vista firewall. I've got the most current versions of all the airport express software and firmware. My iTunes can see the remote speakers, and I can access the airport extreme using the apple-supplied admin software, so I know that they are working and on the network.
However, when I try to stream music through iTunes, the speakers won't connect. (yes, I have the "stream-music" option checked) However, when I disable windows firewall, they work fine. Therefore, the issue seems to be with a specific port that is not open through windows firewall. When I checked the exceptions for windows firewall, all the associated apple software is listed as exceptions. I think that there is one more port open that I do not have.
    Any thoughts?
    thanks.

AirPlay/AirTunes is based on the ROAP protocol. I would suggest trying the following ports:
    Add TCP 443 for SSL
    Add TCP/UDP 554 for RTSP
    Add TCP 3689 for DAAP
Add TCP 5000, 6000, and 6001 for ROAP
    Add TCP 5297 for Bonjour
    Add TCP/UDP 5298 for Bonjour
Add UDP 5353 for Airport discovery
    Add TCP/UDP 7070 for RTSP
Add TCP 8000-8999 for iTunes radio streams
Add TCP 42000-42999 for iTunes radio streams

Have you installed Bonjour for windows?
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bonjourforwindow s.html
After you install it there should be a Printer Configuration file on your windows desktop. Also make sure your Printer is shared on the network by using inspector. Having Identical Login names and passwords on each machine has helped me quite a bit as well.
    Good luck and good hunting.

  • Windows not recognizing my time capsle - I just purchased a new computer that runs windows 8 and it doesn't want to recognize the time capsule as an external hard drive (ie doesn't show up under my compter).  I've downloaded airport utility...

I just purchased a new computer that runs windows 8 and it doesn't want to recognize the time capsule as an external hard drive (ie doesn't show up under my compter).  I've downloaded and run airport utility, but it seems to have a hard time finding the time capsule...maybe one out of 10 times it will find it.
What's more, when I look under network infrastructure under the control panel, it shows my Broadcom ADSL centurylink Router...so I'm wondering if my modem/router combo is overriding the router function on my timecapsule and the time capsule is not being used as a router...
    Any help much appreciated!

In this case the TC should be in bridge mode.
Win8 is still problematic. Try using ethernet instead of wireless. I think the drivers are poor still and it is well worth having a try via ethernet if you haven't already.
Otherwise you will need to wait for apple to release bonjour for windows 8 and airport utility.. which is not out yet.
Also make sure the windows is set to home, not work or public.. even turn off the firewall.
Open windows explorer and type the TC ip address into the address bar.. (none of which is perhaps the same.. I gave away windows at vista.. shudder)

  • Drag and drop in windowed application

i have created application using drag and drop funcatinalities .it's working in webbrowser as internet application .but i converted int o a windowed application and dra and drop isn't working in that form as desktop app.
    pls help me
    thank you.

Maybe I should mention that this drag and drop feature doesn't work on ALL the programs, which leads me to believe that this is a system preferences problem. I can't drag into any of the Adobe programs, iPhoto, Kodak Easyshare, etc.
I understand the Get Info solution, but that is pinpointing only one type of file... I would like to fix this feature for all files.
    Thanking in advance, Ck

That's because you must be trying to download a Windows application, and they do not run on a Mac unless you are running Windows on the Mac.
