Windows are not using dns for resolving short hostnames ?

Hello,
we are using static DNS records on our company's router and Windows is not trying to resolve hostnames.
For example on the router is set DNS foo for address
192.168.2.1
When I try ping foo from linux machine, it works just fine. But it is not working on Windows, because windows doesn't even try to resolve this kind of "short" hostnames.
It works when it's changed to foo.foo or when foo is added into hosts file. But adding it on every machine is what I don't want to do.
Is there a way how to configure Windows to resolve these short hostnames via DNS ?

Yes, windows is using router as it's only dns server. It works fine with longer hostnames (hostname has to have at least two parts). I'll try the other stuff tomorow. I'm already outside the network.

This guy has exactly the same problem, maybe he is explaining it better. Problem is that windows don't even give it a try to resolve the name through dns. Everything works fine from Linux systems.

I went on iTunes after not using it for awhile and my old playlists are all gone. My library seems intact, but I don't have a record of my playlists, except for what's in my iPod. I'm afraid to sync them to get the playlists back into my computer, becuase the last time I synced my iphone it erased all my contacts from both my iphone and my computer, and I don't want the sync operation to remove the playlists from the iPod as well.
I don't have any music on my iPhone, so the two devices in question are just the iTunes program on the computer (it's a Dell with Windows Vista) and my 160 GB iPod classic.

Does windows and mac run continuously using parallel, or is there some way to stop xp from running if you are not using it?

I would like to run a few windows programs but I dont want the mac side to suffer when i am not using the windows os. Is there some way to shutdown the windows part when you are not using?

If you are running MS Windows in Parallels or Fusion or any other virtualization software you can shut it down while the machine is operating and still run OS X. There is no trick, you shut down MS Windows just like you would with any other MS Windows machine. That is one of the main advantages of virtualizaiton software, the ability to run both environments simultaneously if you want. If you don't want to run Windows then simply don't start the virtualizaiton software or if it's already running quit it like you do any app on a Mac.

"earlier versions of windows are not supported boot camp" with bootcamp 5.1.2

I have a problem about installing window 8.0 pro 64-bit with bootcamp ( v5.1.2 ). When I finished setting up, Bootcamp shows me a message as " earlier versions of windows are not supported boot camp " although I'm using bootcamp with 5.1.2 version. How can I resolve it ? My mac is mgxa2 mid 2014.

The big issue is... that the DBCA can not see the diskgroups. When I choose ASM Storage it can not see them. It shows the chart in blank and if i try to write the disk group, so the following message appears: can not use ASM for database storage due to following reason: Could not connect to ASM due to following error: ORA-01034 ORACLE not available
What can be passing in this case... ?

Really the problem initially was because of this:
[INS-06006] Passwordless SSH connectivity not set up between the following node(s): [node1, node2]. CVU may reports "PRVF-4007 : User equivalence check failed for user "user"" for same error
and I had to install node1 first and after node2 manually and perhaps for this the product was not well linked.
I resolved the problem establishing the keys with the wizard and after copying the following files from node1 to node2
/home/grid/.ssh -------> /home/grid/.ssh
authorized_keys
known_hosts
This is the procedure if you run the wizard at the node1.
The problem is that the wizard creates the keys incompletely...

why batch updations are not prefered in entity beansPlease refer the specification of ejb and find out what the entity bean is meant for.In short the emtity bean represents the object state which can be persisted.
Talking regarding the batch updations does not make sense , also the entity bean represents the row of the table mapped to the Object(java Object).

I am using EWS Java APIs and passing OAuth tokens to fetch data from office 365 mailboxes.
Because I am developing Web APIs I preferred using "Application Permissions" defined in Azure active directory application for Office 365, and used "client credential flow" OAuth flow to fetch OAuth token specific to application which will
allow "Have full access via EWS to all mailboxes in the organisation".
After fetching token with the procedure specified in the document "http://blogs.msdn.com/b/exchangedev/archive/2015/01/21/building-demon-or-service-apps-with-office-365-mail-calendar-and-contacts-apis-oauth2-client-credential-flow.aspx"
I passed this token to EWS Java APIs,
it gave me error saying:
microsoft.exchange.webservices.data.ServiceResponseException: Exchange Web Services are not currently available for this request because none of the Client Access Servers in the destination site could process the request.
I tried similar thing with EWS managed APIs for .net. Got similar error.
Can anyone provide some help and direction to resolve this error.

Benefits vs Disadvantages of using DNS for Oracle RAC (12c or 11g)

For nearly all of my Oracle RAC Builds, I've used /etc/hosts and not DNS. As such I've not been able to take full advantage of GNS and SCANS.
Please note some of your experiences associated with the benefits of using DNS configuration for your Oracle 12c RAC Builds. I'm building my 12c RAC now and I'm starting to configure DNS so that I can provide my customers with better value/add of High Availability. I've used /etc/hosts in the past and one of my arguments in using /etc/hosts can be more secure because you only put in the /etc/hosts what you want the node to know. I also beleave that using /etc/hosts is a lot more simple and perhaps that could be a potential vulnerability. I've decided to start using DNS and to learn how to make it secure.

What happens with your clients if your DNS goes down? It stop working?
What is the cost to manage the host files from all host desktop and servers?

Wrong... Full advantage of Clusterware, because is not supported use GNS or SCAN without a DNS.

Windows could not load installer for daqdevice

Hello, I have 2 Labpc-1200 Daq cards installed in my Windows 200 SP4 pc. When i load NI-Daq6.9.3 and reboot, i get the following error
"Windows could not load installer for DaqDevice"
I have search the forums and support here withough luck. Here is what i have tried :
Removed all daq, labview software - rebooted reinstalled
removed all registry keys, hklm\software\niationa intruments
Updated pc to SP4
Anyone got any ideas please?

Is there any reason why you are using NI-Daq6.9.3?
There is a link in the attachments for the latest drivers which I would suggest you use them. The latest drivers for Traditional NI DAQ Legacy is 7.4.1 and the latest for DAQmx is 8.

List users of specific databases that are not using the default storage quotas

I have an Exchange 2010 SP3 DAG with 4 databases. I am trying to use powershell to find out, per database, which mailboxes are
not using the "mailbox database defaults", which is unlimited in this case (no quotas for Issue warning, Prohibit send, and Prohibit send and receive).
Something like "get-mailbox | where {$_.UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults -ne $true} will not work because I just want the data for specific databases".
I have also tried "get-mailbox -database nameofdatabase | where {$_.UseDatabaseQuotaDefaults -ne $true} | out-file c:\temp\nameofdatabase.tx" but it lists some users that show unlimited for all categories and others some that have limits on certain
other ones. In short, it is not correct.

From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
Running the Get-Mailbox -Database MBX1 | Where-Object {$_.usedatabasequotadefaults -eq $false} cmdlet will list all mailboxes who have a custom storage quota. But it only displays the value of ProhibitSendQuota. You can check the values of other storage
quotas via EMC.
EMC -> Recipient Configuration -> Mailbox -> double click the mailbox -> Mailbox Settings -> Storage Quotas

Proposals are not getting generated for BOM items in MD50

I have maintained strategy 50 in MRP for header material , Item category gp as LUMF & maintained consumption parameters in material master .
For dependent requirements i have maintained BOM for production & sales usage, Strategy is blank as it is customer specific component , Item category gp is NORM , individual requirements i.e 1 in MRP 4 view.
MRP type is PD in both materials.
When i run a MRP thru' MD50 after getting customer order.
it is not planning my dependent requirements i.e. proposals are not getting generated for dependent requirements (BOM materials).
Please let me know the solution.

I do not have an apple computer, I have had Itunes Previously but had not used it for some time. when I try to use it now the following message keeps coming up no matter how many times install Itunes. "The Itunes library is locked on a locked disc ?

I have tried to download Itunes again but the following keeps poping up, "The Itunes library is locked on a locked disc, oryou do not have write permission for this file." How can I overcome this?

To solve this issue all I did was check to ensure that the file permissions were set as described by the earlier posts, followed by simply deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file. Once the file was deleted I was able to open iTunes without difficulty. Note that I am running Windows 8. Hope this helps!

'You Are Not Using The Correct Type of Phone Cord' Error

Having a issue with my fax on my HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless. Tried to send a fax, it received a send error. I ran fax test and it came back with "You are not using the correct type of phone cord". Nothing has changed since I last fax'd but I check the lines and connection, everything appears ok. Phone jack is connected to 1-line and Officejet '2-ext' is connected to the phone. I use a dedicated phone # and the Officejet is set to auto answer. I can call out and receive calls on the phone connect to the Officejet. My assumption is that since I can use the phone without issue there is nothing wrong with the phone line. Any ideas?

I was having the same problem. I'm using a the 2 wire phone cord provided with the printer and still getting this error. Turns out that it related to have a phone extension plugged into the printer. If I unplug the telephone form the extension jack on the back of the printer, then the fax test passes. I was even using a 2 wire cord on the phone extension but it seems that simply having a telephone plugged into the extension jack will cause this error.
Run the test without a telephone plugged into the printer's extension jack and you should be fine.
Worked for me!
