Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation [audiodg.exe] MEMORY LEAK - EATS OUT 60-85% of CPU

Hello,
I've updated, 2 days ago, from Win 8 to Win 8.1 Pro and this memory leak problem that has occurred to me previously in other Win versions has arrived again. Didn't upgrade from boot, just from the desktop. Cleaned up the previous Windows installations and all
that jazz that was inherent to Windows updates. Tried to fix this problem with the normal method of disabling the enhancements at the playback device but they are gone.
My drivers are all up to date and have a Conexant SmartAudio HD sound platform.
Thanks in advance for any sort of help.

I maybe got a solution for this... (Worked for me)
I
Right-click the speaker icon in the lower right corner.
Select Playback Devices from the menu. A list of devices should appear on the screen.
Double-click the device that has a green checkmark. The properties windows for that device should open.
Click the Enhancements tab at the top.
From the list of enhancements, uncheck all of them, or click the Disable all enhancements checkbox.
Click the OK button to save your changes and close the window.
Click OK to close the Playback Devices window.
Please reply if that helped you :-)

Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation uses up all memory. 12Gb. Task manager shows it continuously soaking up memory at about 0.5MB/sec. until its all used up. Killing the process restores memory and stops all sound until I log off and on again when the process starts devouring memory again.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - When svchost.exe memory-leaks Outlook does not load properly

    Hi all,
We have a server which runs Windows Server 2008 R2, fully updated, and acts as a Terminal Server (Citrix XenApp 6.5).
In the past couple months we have had problems with svchost.exe leaking memory, growing to 2-3GB of RAM usage. Sometimes is occurs with weeks between the incidents, sometimes days. To solve the issue we have to reboot the server.
When this occurs, Outlook (fully updated) doesn't start for any users at all. Outlook doesn't continue from the "Loading profile.."-stage. The users who already has Outlook started doesn't have any problems, unless they close Outlook ;) .
The svchost.exe is the one which runs the services:
    NSI
    WinHttpAutoProxySvc
    W32Time
    Netprofm
    FontCache
    EventSystem
We've patched the server with KB2847346 but with no result. Patch KB2950358 is not applicable..
    Any ideas?

svchost is hosting multiple services. when the issue occurs you can use sysinternals procmon (or enable the command line column in task manager process tab) to view to determine which service is using that much memory.
    MCP/MCSA/MCTS/MCITP
Did you read my whole post, or did you just misunderstand the part were I wrote:

I know that svchost.exe runs ALOT of services, so when the problem occurred I checked which services the specific svchost.exe runs. Everytime it happens the svchost.exe (which leaks and has 2-3GB mem usage) runs this specific services.

  • How do I use 2 Core Audio devices at the same time in Logic w/out switching

Hello, I use the Aardvark Direct Mix usb3 as my audio interface for mic and guitar. I just upgraded to Logic Pro 7 today and was hoping someone could tell me how I could use the Built-in Audio Core Audio driver along with the Direct Mix USB Core Audio Driver at the same time without having to switch Core Audio Driver's and than rebooting Logic. It is very frustrating doing that as well as not being able to hear my Logic audio during playback/record mode when I am trying to record via the USB3. WHat can I do? Thanks! If ther are both core audio, why can I not just use both of them at the same time? Why must a switch back and forth? Thanks!
    [email protected]

THanks everyone! awsome article! Thanks for posting it, nh!
The weird thing is, once I go up to the Menu and select Open Aggregate Device Editor in the AUDIO/MIDI setup utility and try to add a new Aggregate Device setup (step # 6 from the link), the only audio device available is the "Built-in Audio". What's weird is when I have the main Audio MIDI Setup utility open, every single drop-down menu/tab has the "Direct Mix USB 3 1.0.9.1" device right beneath the "Built-in Audio" option. To me that says that the core audio device is indeed recognized by my computer (obviously since I can record with it using Logic). Can anyone help me with this one? Any suggestions?
Not that it should matter but, the hardware audio interface that I am using is made by the no-longer-existant company once known as Aardvark. I actually had to purchase a third party Core Audio driver just to have it recognized by OS X.
This is the website where I purchased my audio driver :
    http://www.usb-audio.com/
A little more on how this device and it's core audio driver function within Logic . . . (Hopefully this might clarify something I may be screwing up) . . .
I launch Logic with its default Built-in Audio which allows playback of audio from the app. I than go up to Audio Hardware and Drivers and than drop the flip down Driver menu down to the second option, "Direct Mix USB 3 1.0.9.1." Logic than prompts me that I should try to (re)launch Logic Pro to load the appropriate CoreAudio.. I do that. Now I am ready to record guitar through the Direct Mix USB3, I just can't hear anything (unless I use head phones as an output from the Direct Mix).
Anyway, you all probably already knew what I meant so explaining that was pointless. But my question is, if the Driver is obviously recognized by my comp in both the Audio MIDI Setup and in Logic, than why won't the Direct Mix device show up as a possibility for setting up an aggregate device? Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Jrun.exe memory leak

    Hi,
I had my brand new test server setup earlier this month with
everything clean installed. I'm having issue with jrun.exe memory
usage skyrocketing to 500mb+. jrun.exe also makes the sql queries
to respond slow. What i've been doing for past week is terminate
the process, and restart the server.
Event after restarting, sometimes it instantly goes back to
500mb+ usage. I'm testing farely small application on this server,
i dont think the application would be causing this issue.
I had the same problem before, thats why it lead me to get
new test server, but now event on brand new system, jrun to repeat
    same issue.
Beside coldfusion, i have sql server 2008, which runs
    perfectly normal throughout the week.
    Does anyone know the fix?
    Syed

Jrun's jvm memory usage is configurable in the jvm.config
file. It is most likely the default startup is defaulting to take
up a minimum of 500 MB. Different jvm's act differently and some
are better at memory management than others. This isn't necessarily
an indication of a memory leak, it's more the jvm's nature to act
in this manner. No matter what it's probably peaking around 1.5 GB
    if I had to guess.
I would look for other areas when it comes to performance, if
it's a small application and the only thing running on the CF
server. Look for things like unintentional loops, returning large
record sets from SQL, large values in session variables. Also never
store client variables in the registry. It could also be if you
have large db tables, you may need some indexing in the database.

  • Tomcat5.exe memory leak?

    Hi
We have an Xcelsius dashboard that once opens causes tomcat to increase in memory until it reaches about 1,200k at which time tomcat no longer services any requests.  I have the latest Sp and hot fix installed for both Xcelsius and XI 3.1.
If 4 people open the dashboard it takes approx 1 hour for tomcat to reach the max memory.
    We have Windows 2008 x64.  XI 3.1.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    thanks
    Rob

There is a good FAQ for Tomcat memory settings [here|http://wiki.apache.org/tomcat/FAQ/Memory]
If you want to upgrade the JDK used, you need to install the package on the server and then configure Tomcat to use the new JDK by setting the JAVA_HOME variable:
Click Start->Control Panel->System. Then click Advanced, then click "Environment Variables".
Under System variables, click "New". For Variable Name, use JAVA_HOME (exactly like that, case and all). For Variable Value, use c:\JDK_DIR. Click OK until the Control Panel is closed.
Verify the setting. Click Start->Run, and in the command box type "cmd" and click OK. At the command prompt, type echo %JAVA_HOME% and verify that the value returned matches the directory for the new JDK.

    Caroline

  • Virtscrl.exe memory leak

I've noticed strange behaviors from virtscrl.exe: after a few hours of using my W530, the process has over 1 million handles (shown in task manager) and my memory's Paged Pool shoots up to 4 - 5 GB (usually smaller than 1 GB). Any idea why? I'm using the latest version from the driver's page. Screenshots:

  • Crackling sound and audiodg.exe problem in windows 7

    Hi,
I suddenly ran into this problem with my Pavilion dv7. The music played by Windows Media Player as well as other player become slowed and crackled. My norton complained that the audiodg.exe occupied most of the CPU power.
I ran through a google search to find the solutions. But it seems none of them works. Someone suggests to disable the audio device enhancement. but mine has been disabled already. Someone suggestes to upgrade the driver, but mine is up to day. Anyone has met a similar problem?

  • AUDIODG.EXE hogging 80-100% of CPU and sound not working in Vista . . .

I posted this on a Microsoft Answers Forum but none of the techs or people reading have been able to help so far.  I'm dying to get to the bottom of this:
    Here is my computer:
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    2GB RAM
    XFX GEFORCE 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 DUAL DVI & TV OUT (PCI-E)
    200GB WD SATA HDD
500GB WD HDD in external enclosure via USB2
NEC ND-3520A 16X DVD±RW Dual Layer DVD Burner
    LG CD Burner
I've been using Vista Home Premium successfully for some time.  Recently, not too long after I did a clean wipe of my OS, my audio would stop working.  The way it would happen is that everything would work fine until I started iTunes or another audio application and when I would hit play, things would lock up.
Upon inspection of my system resources, I'm noticing that the audio platform for Vista, via the audiodg.exe, is using close to 100% of my CPU resources, even when the computer is making no sound at all.
I've had a Sound Blaster Live! card in my computer for some time but I was not using it; I use the Realtek AC'97 audio drivers that are on my motherboard instead.  I thought that the conflict may be the computer wanting to recognize my Sound Blaster, so I took it out of my computer but the problem seems to be worse.
Are there any BIOS setting that need to be adjusted for my sound to start working again?
I'm very reliant on the audio processing power of my computer (I'm in the radio industry, part-time) and this is a huge drag on my productivity.
Any tips would be much appreciated.
    REPLY #1:
Thank you for using Microsoft Answers forum.  I suggest going to the manufacture of your sound card and download the latest drivers and install them.
    MY RESPONSE:
Good suggestion.  The problem is this:
I am running on-board audio.  I have an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard which runs "Realtek ALC Series AC97 Audio Driver" and there is no version for Vista. They have a version for Windows 2K/XP and one for Windows XP 64bit.
Should I use on of those and if not, then what?
    UPDATE (from me):
I took a chance and found a Realtek AC'97 driver for Vista.
    http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Realtek-AC-97-Audio-Codec-Driver-Vista-6183-Beta-Download-18114.html
I went to install it and the install hung.  So, I closed one of the install windows and then the InstallShield app continued like it was working.  So, I hit "Restart my computer".  Well, the reboot hung too.  So, I reset the PC manually.
When the computer came back up, the sound worked.  Hard to tell if this will fix it for good but it's promising.  Chaotic.  Unpredictable.  Annoying.
    REPLY #2:
Before you tried updating drivers, did you try rebooting 1st?
I'm just trying to determine if rebooting your system is what resolved the issue - thank you
    UPDATE II (from me):
My computer is behaving the same way it was before.  AUDIODG.EXE taking up 80-100% of my CPU and the sound not working.
    Any other ideas?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:

"- Open up msconfig.exe > Manage startup programs.
    - Disable ALL Realtek entries
    - Close msconfig.exe
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Audio devices > Speakers (properties)
    - Go to the enhancements tab
    - Check the box to disable all audio enhancements
    - Close the menu
    - Right-click on the speaker icon > Recording devices
    - Disable all your microphones (yeah..., the actual problem seems to come
    from voice inputs rendering..)
    - Close the menu
    - Restart your computer"

  • Version 7.3 memory leaks Windows 8 then crashes

Hello, There are already some threads about this, but they mention Windows 7. I can confirm the memory leak (it gets up to 1.5 gb then crashes) is happening on windows 8 and windows 8.1. This issue wasn't present for skype 7.2.0.103 , it is present for 7.3 and also for 7.4.0.102 . It leaks for about 0.6MB per second , it constantly writes to disk 0.3 MB/S and uses ~12% CPU. This behavior happens only after I'm logged in. No calls, no messages, just staying logged in is sufficient. Furhtermore, the memory leaked by Skype is not returning to the system, so I end up having 75% memory used on a 16 GB machine after restarting skype several times (because it crashes and I need skype to communicate with my contacts constantly). Please provide me with a link to download 7.2 (since it works). I had this issue with Skype 7.3 and in 7.4 nothing got solved, so please give me a link to something that works rather that something that's shiny but broken. Thank you

The memory leak is still occuring in 7.6.0+.
Downgraded to 7.2.0.103 and it still does not prevent memory leak. Eventually it crashes around 1100MB of RAM usage on my system. Validated everything is working like directx, etc. I think this is a Microsoft Windows 8.1 bug, and not just a Skype memory leak issue, as I have seen one other application do the exact same thing (grow to 1100MB and crash). Time to go bug Microsoft for a solution... oh wait... Skype is a Microsoft product.

  • Mac Pro (2010) too many audio devices after adding 2 x 27" LED Cinema disp

Can anyone tell me how to re-prioritize the list of audio devices shown in system preferences or Audio MIDI support?
REALLY, what I'd prefer is a way to completely disable audio devices that I absolutely do not need.
I am having some 3rd-party software issues with some software that cannot cope with the long list of audio devices, but I would expect that if I could remove unnecessary devices or at least change the order in which they are presented to software, I might be able to workaround the issues with the third party apps.
Everything was fine before I installed two new 27" LED Cinema Displays, which together bring four new audio OUT devices and two new audio IN devices.
I would like to disable all four audio OUT devices...in fact I would like to be able to disable several of the Mac Pro built-in audio devices that I will never use.
Here's the list of audio devices that I now have:
    Internal Speakers
    Line Out
    Digital Out
    LED Cinema
    LED Cinema
    Display Audio
    Display Audio
    GN 9350
A key 3rd-party app (with whom I am also filing a bug) only shows these choices in the "Audio output" pull-down:
    Built-in Digital Output Digital Out
    Built-in Line Output Line Out
    Built-in Output Internal Speakers
    Display Audio
    Display Audio #2
    Display Port LED Cinema
    GN 9350
So when I try to choose GN 9350, what I get instead is "Display Port LED Cinema" -- I think the problem is that really the list should be:
    Built-in Digital Output Digital Out
    Built-in Line Output Line Out
    Built-in Output Internal Speakers
    Display Audio
    Display Audio #2
    Display Port LED Cinema
    Display Port LED Cinema #2
    GN 9350
If the above list was actually being shown properly, then I would HOPE that I could actually choose GN 9350 and have it stick.
But until I can get the 3rd party app fixed, I would like to know how to get the Mac Pro to either change the order of the devices as presented/listed, or to (preferably) let me completely DISABLE unneeded devices.

Thanks... But I do still want to be able to use the built-in iSight and the USB hubs.

  • Still memory leaks with 10.8.4

I hoped 10.8.4 could solve the issue..
Unfortunately I still have memory leaks, pages out and inactive memory full for a lot of programs running. First of all FCX importing and transcoding full the inactive memory, and OSX slows down, swapping to the SSD. The same problem with all (4 in total) macs mounting ML.
Has anyone solved the problem please?
    Thanks in advance.
    Attilio

Attilio, although I'm not a Final Cut user, I suspect that your problem is, as Kappy first said - insufficient RAM.
    See: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1332888 for instance.
It's a RAM hog. With the Retina, you're stuck with the RAM you've got now, unfortunately. With any other hardware, I'd consider boosting the RAM as much as you can. I don't run FCX or any video editing software (I build web sites - so I use Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Lightroom etc.) and I boosted the RAM in my Mac Pro to 18GB quite a while ago because I was seeing a lot of pageouts and slowdowns with 10GB. I do tend to have a ton of windows and apps open at once.
See also: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4759586?start=0&tstart=0 - Kappy's very good explanation of memory usage and various links to check.
Whether it appeared to run better in SL or not, I can't really say - unless you ran two identical Macs, side by side doing exactly the same things in FCX with the two operating systems installed, I don't know how one could accurately assess that.

  • Creative X-FI Elite Pro + Windows Vista = Audiodg.exe 60%+ CPU Please He

    Hi,
I got a problem with the Audiodg.exe process, problem is that sometimes it uses from 5% cpu and jumps to 50% and more and when playing this makes everything choppy and even cause mouse lagg..
As fast as i tab down the game the process drops to 5-0 and if I tab in again it jumps and holds on for several sekunds/minutes and then everything works fine and some minutes later it starts again.
This Hapends when playing all sort of games but mostly hapends in Counter Strike Source, and Windows Media Player, when watching films or listening to music but when doing that it gets worse and making the sound to lagg or slowdown etc.
Any idea got all the latest drivers exept for bios becouse Asus bios are unstable, and i cannot switch audio drivers becouse i got 4gb of ram and only the latest creative drivers work with 4gb...

Hope thats all, Best Regards C0MM4NDER

I didnt have this issue before to, it just starded after my reformat when i noticed that my cpus where on 100% in a game and then noticed that it was a process called Audiodg.exe that eats everything.
Im running software from my Creative Vista CD + updates from Creative Site, (and the 10006. driver from this site.) and no no codec packs installed yet. nothing this is a clean install only standard programs running installed only nod32 creative software and defrag software. and i used this before when i didnt have this problem only new is the drivers that i NEED becouse i use now 4gbs of ram and, this is the only hardware change from format, i had 2gb then now i got 4gb and i downloaded the latest driver, maybe its is the problem, but i need this driver.
Im 100% its the drivers because i've seen many other issues like this with other Audio companies that fixed it with a driver update, exept Creative "wow thats some news" i've allready talked at Technet on Vista 64 forums and person told me that it a driver issue.
Another proof is that if i run windows doing nothing Audiodg.exe uses constantly 0-4% of my CPU, if i start a mp3 its jumps to 6-8% if i turn of Cmss3d in Creative Console it drops instantly to 0% and stays there all the time, so its something with the drivers. running open al software only limits the audiodg to some point, but when running (Teamspeak) with Direct Sound, and (Counter StrikeSource) with Open Al /Alchemy) the Audiodg flips and starting to use 50% sometimes, and it hapends sometimes when i dont use teamspeak, so its Driver problem.
I phoned Creative and they told me on the support that they have no idea and telling the same story = Reainstall drivers etc..

  • No audio (and "no audio device") in WIndows XP on my MacBook Pro 17"

    Greetings,
I just installed Windows XP SP2 on my new MacBook Pro 17" and everything is working smoothly EXCEPT that there's no sound in Windows from the built-in speakers, and in fact the Control Panel reads "No audio device." I have already successfully installed the Boot Camp drivers from my Leopard DVD. I also tried to run the Boot Camp 2.1 update (downloaded directly from the Apple site) but the installer cannot be run and gives error 2762, whatever that is. Finally, I've seen on some forum posts that certain Realtek drivers may fix similar problems on other machine, so I downloaded and installed Realtek R2.27 high definition audio driver but that doesn't seem to have done the trick for me.
I'm guessing this problem could be fixed easily by the correct audio driver but I can't figure out what that is or how to find it. Please help, any advice would be appreciated!

  • No audio device on windows xp with SB0

Hello, I've a SB0060 with a cd version that does not install on windows xp. I've always had problems installing this card on windows xp but once I've managed to install it.
I was upgrading the driver to try to fix some bugs with TeamSpeak and lost all sound.
I've tried to install again the SB0060 but couldn't get it to work.
    I've tried with:
    SBLi've5XPDrvUpdate.exe
    Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe
    Li'veDrvPack_Patch.exe
    Li'veDrvPack.exe
All of the drivers install on windows xp BUT in the "sound and audio devices" gives me the finger with "no audio device".
In the device manager, No conflits, No troubles, No Shared IRQs, NOTHING! This is really driving me crazy.
Is there any driver or HowTo install this card in the web? Any fixed stuff or people with the same problem?
    Please help.
