Windows azure and project server

Hello,
I am investigating the possibilities of hosting MS Project server on windows azure.  I have questions as follows:
- Can MS project server 2010 be installed on azure
- if I have a license of MS project 2010 and on azure I install the same version can I use the same license without purchasing a new one for MS project server?
- I found this link http://www.windowsazure.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/?scenario=full# for azure pricing calculations, but I do not see there sharepoint cost and project server cost. What will be approximate cost for these two platforms on azure?
Also please let me know if there is some other information that I may need regarding this hosting.
Thank you,

Hi,
From my research, As Azure does support the creating of Virtual Machines there is nothing to stop you using this environment to install SQL, SharePoint and Project Server. This is a fully supported environment, All Microsoft software that is installed in
the Windows Azure Virtual Machine environment must be properly licensed. By default, Windows Azure Virtual Machines include a license for use of Windows Server in the Windows Azure environment. Certain Windows Azure Virtual Machine offerings may also include
additional Microsoft software on a per-hour or evaluation basis. Licenses for other software must be obtained separately. For information about Microsoft’s License Mobility program see
Volume Licensing. In some cases, specific versions of Microsoft server software are required for support. These versions are noted in following article.
Details:
Microsoft Project Server
Microsoft Project Server 2013 and later versions are supported.
Microsoft SharePoint Server
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and later versions are supported on Windows Azure Virtual Machines.
Microsoft doesn't look inside your VMs, from my experience, if you have the licensed, you will not be charged for Microsoft Project Server. Hope it helps.

  • How to sync Projects between Sharepoint and Project server 2010.

    Hello,
My project is saved in SharePoint and I am trying to save and link my project from Sharepoint to Project server 2010 so that they will be saved in Sharepoint and Project Serverwill both and synced.Users can edit or update from Sharepoint
    and Project server.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Prashant
    Thanks, Prashant

    Hi Prashant,
It is a bit unclear how you have a project in Sharepoint AND a project in Project Server 2010.
    The basic process is :
you have EPT, associated with a Sharepoint template
You create from Project Server 2010 (project center) a project choosing an EPT
a project plan (mpp) will be created, editable from PWA or MS Project Pro2010
a Sharepoint site associated with the project plan will be created, based on the EPT WSS template
In server settings, you can sync permissions between the project plan and the sharepoint site, and also check for the url and eventually update them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Slipstream SharePoint 2010 and Project Server Installation

    Hello,
I have my current farm environment with the below configuration
SharePoint 2010 + Project Server which are on SP 2 + Brazil Language Pack
    2 WFE
    2 App
    1 SQL
We are planning to add more WFE and App server in the existing farm. As per my research I found that we can slipstream CU and language pack install.
Would like to know can I slipstream SP2010 + Project server with SP2 along with Brazil language pack in one single go. I did found the article http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/c6f60e5e-4f07-4e92-a8de-a32924b00ce5/sharepoint-2010-and-project-server-2010-slipstream-install?forum=sharepointadminprevious
however in this case there was request to setup a new farm but I'm trying to add new server to the existing farm.
Can you please suggest the best approach that can be followed to save time to add the new server to the existing farm using slipstream.
    Thanks.

You can do the same per the old thread. Just install SharePoint server, cancel config wizard, install Project Server, cancel config wizard, install LPK, then start Config Wizard and join to farm.

  • Hammock tasks and Project Server

I am trying to create a hammock task for a project that resides on Project Server.
(I am using Project 2013 and Project Server 2010)
I can create the hammock, but when I try to check in the file I get an error saying:
"Saving the file to the Project Web App will remove all links to resources in the file.
    Do you want to continue?
To continue and lose all resource OLE or DDE links, click Yes."
How do I save the file and keep the links that create the hammock?
    Cheers
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
Evenif it isn't clear which version you are using (since 2010 and 2013 cannot be used together), it appears from your error message "Saving
the file to the Project Web App" that you are trying to create hammock tasks from PWA.
In case I'm right, note that you cannot edit/create OLE links from PWA, you need to use MS Project Pro for creating hammock tasks.
    Hope this helps,

    Hello,
When you install SQL server express its instance name will be Machinename\SQLEXPRESS .After this if you want to install default instance you can go ahead and do that.Generally first instance you install becomes default instance unless you specifically give
    name for it.

  • Project Online - Schedule PDP disappearing for some Project Owners and Project Server Administrators Group

Current Project Online environment is currently setup with Project Server Permissions Mode. All projects follow a customized workflow that enables Schedule PDP on Planning Phase/Stage, among other rules. For some users the workflow and
expected PDPs are working fine, but for other the Schedule PDP just disappears under unknown conditions, even if they are part of the Administrators Group. Has anyone come across these behaviour?
    Saludos!

As you said they belongs to Admin group it means they have required permission still double check the permission assigned to the users.
Also ask those users to try to log in form different system then check is issue is occurring.
If this issue is occurring for few users then this may be because of Browser. check the following :
    1. Open IE then internet options --> Security --> Trusted Site and add your PWA site. then check
    2. If still issue is occurring then click on F12 button then select browser mode as IE 9 then check.

  • How To Control the Langauge of BI Reports (Using Excel 2013, oData, and Project Server Online 2013)

Although I buried and posted the following question indirectly in a recent post, I would like to do so here to try and elevate it in the hope that I can get an answer.
It is in regards to creating reports using Excel 2103 to querry Project Server 2013 Online using oData.  I would like to be able to control the langauge of my reports that I create for others to view.
Just creating and then saving the Report and Data Connections in a language directory does not seem to drive or determine the language of the report.  A colleague of mine over here is using the same directories as I am, and his turn
out to be French like his environment.  Mine, even though I save the files in same the French directories, display in English.
Any ideas on how I can create reports so that they display in another language, eg., French when using Excel to create reports?  I know that we can set the language in an internet browser to control the language that the result is returned, for instance,
    when querying https://.../pwa/_api/ProjectData/$metadata

Correction!  Thanks to Doug Welsby of Microsoft and some our other MS friends who worked behind the scenes to correct/ assist me on this, I got the right answer after all... the difference between, example a French oData command/ statement,
and an English one is the inclusion of the square brackets with the language abbreviation/ code e.g., "[Fr..]" in the oData connection string/ statement.  For further reference, see the connection files provided by Microsoft in the Reports and
compare the syntax for the same report/ different language.  There is where you will see what and how Excel is able to differentiate/ control what language that the report result will return.

  • Timesheet and project server issue

    Hi there,
For my timesheet in PWA 2013, Team members can fill out timesheets for project work. However, the progress they submit could not be updated in the Project server? For instance, in the timesheet, task A has been done 20 hours. I filled in the timesheet for
this task and submit. Also, it has been approved. However, the task from the project server still show me 0 hours on "Actual work".
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
    cc

    Hi SillyBird,
So I guess we found what was not going as expected in your case. First of all, some documentation for you to read. The second link shows you the SEM process
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/project/archive/2009/11/23/time-tracking-in-project-server-2010.aspx
    http://khurramjamshed.blogspot.ca/2011/02/project-server-task-and-timesheet.html
In the SEM process, there are 2 APPROVALS:
first the timesheet manager approves the timesheet (ie time on project and administrative time)
then (the sequencing can be forced by an option in the timesheet configuration in server settings) the status manager approves only the task updates
Finally the project manager (that is usually the status manager) opens the project plan that contains the approved actuals, updates the remaining work, publishes and closes the project plan for the team members to have in PWA the new/updated assignments.
Now some links about the status manager:
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/change-the-manager-of-an-enterprise-project-HA010113077.aspx
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/status-manager-task-field-HA010167477.aspx
Basically the status manager will be the task update approver, meaning the one that will receive in the approval center the task updates for approval. He is by default the user that created the project plan, meaning probably the project manager (but can
be a PMO officer). The status manager can only be changed in MS Project Pro (in case the project initiator is not the PM), inserting the "status manager" column.
Be aware that it has to be changed by the user that wants to be status manager himself. It cannot be done by a third person (such as an admin) due to the fact that the status manager column in MS Project Pro proposes a list of only 2 users : the active user
(that currently edits the project) and the current status manager.
Note also that when you change the status manager value in Project Pro, it has to be done for every task (easily doable by draging the value from the first to the last cell, like in Excel). Then new tasks will have the new status manager.
    Hope this helps.

  • CRM and Project Server Integration

Hello.  I would be grateful for your input in assessing the difficulty of achieving the following.
In Project Server we will have a number of projects created for potential construction/development projects.  In CRM we will have a number of accounts created for potential customers.  Periodically we hold meetings to link potential projects with
potential buyers.  Within Project Server, we would like to create one or more links to CRM accounts of potential buyers.  Similarly, in CRM, we would like to link certain accounts to potential projects.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
this is type of integration is a quite common use case.
Christophe Fiessinger has written a blog post about this some time ago:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/chrisfie/archive/2012/02/14/microsoft-project-server-2010-and-dynamics-crm-2011-integration.aspx
Within his article he describes about the possiblity to custom code this type integration. Also there are some solutions available on the market by partners which can take care of this type of integration (e.g. CS Connect by Campana & Schott -
    http://www.campana-schott.com/en/technologies/cs-connect?qll=mf).
For us we have implemented this e.g. in a way that we track opportunities in CRM and once we hit a possiblity threshold a Project Server project to which we transfer key information from CRM is created.
