Windows blue screen of death crash during Boot Camp driver install

I have been trying to get Windows running under Boot Camp on my 2.66 GHz Alu iMac, but without success.
Boot Camp partitions the drive and Windows XP SP2 installs properly. I boot into Windows, and then insert my Leopard install DVD to install the Apple drivers.
The driver installation gets about halfway, then the machine crashes with a blue screen of death and restarts automatically. It puts me back in Windows, with no drivers installed.
I am installing the Boot Camp drivers from the Leopard retail DVD. This machine is missing the Leopard install/restore discs that came with it, and Apple want to charge £99 for a replacement set.
Is there any way I can get the Boot Camp drivers installed, or do I need to find a friend with the exact same machine and original system discs and use those?

Aloha Adam.
Don't know whether this is helpful, but below is a list of drivers that are installed (as of Aug 08).
Also, if you have not already, you may find FAQ helpful, as well, at URL: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1656
Lastly, though they're a year old, the Update 2.1 is in .exe format, so if you can get it the .exe download package onto your installed Windows OS somehow (e.g., copied onto a CD, IF Windows can read it), you might stand a chance of alternate means of installing the drivers.
If this helps, please so indicate.
Thanks,
HJ

  • Windows "Blue screen of Death" when booting computer attached to LabVIEW PXI realtime system

Good Morning (at least in the western hemisphere)!
I'm having a problem on two test systems where intermittently, at least on one machine, I get a Windows "Blue Screen of Death" error message when booting the machine connected to a PXI RT system. I reloaded the RT systems software yesterday (LV RT 7.1.1, NI-VISA 3.3.1) and am having this problem on two different setups, two laptops, two PXI chassis. Our short term work around has been to boot with the network cable removed at one end or the other, but these are the baseline models for a larger test system in the design/construction stage that will not be used by knowledgeable engineers but by (probably more knowledgeable!) technicians.  Any ideas would be a help

Blue screens are almost always caused by drivers and not by applications, so chances are there's a problem on the driver level.  The crash log file will be instrumental to diagnosing this problem.
Turn on the crash event logging as described in this Microsoft KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314084/EN-US/
...and then post the details from the crash found in the Windows Event Viewer here. That will help us narrow the problem down.

  • Blue screen of death, can't boot recovery or from external disk.

    Hello Guys.
I have a very wiered problem with my 15 Macbook Pro early 2011 (thunderbolt), latest version of mountain lion (10.8.4?).
The computer does boot but won't show up the login screen. I've tried  to boot in recovery mode, but as soon as recovery boots up it only shows a blank blue screen. The same for booting from an install USB drive or a external HDD.
    What I've also tried:
    - NVPRAM reset
    - chdsk in Singleuser mode
    Nothing helped so far.
I know this was asked before (on a different forum though) but seems like they couldn't figure out a solution.
Is there anyone who can help with that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thomas

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Bootcamp Blue Screen of Death.. Apple USB Driver ?

This started to occur to me after I upgraded to the Leopard
    drivers for Bootcamp.
I have seen this occur two times while booted in Windows XP.
Both after I left the machine idle for a long period of time..
    about 3-4 hrs.
    1) Conditions - machine is idle.. the screen energy saver is on
and the monitor is in low power/sleep mode.
    2) Conditions - both times occured when i had no internet access
connected. It occured when I took my imac to a location where
i dont have the wifi access as usual at my home.
    3) Conditions - i did have the trial of Parallels 3.0 installed
but i dont use it nor did i purchase the full version.. i need
to uninstall those components from XP still.
    4) I think in both instances Autodesk Inventor 11 was running.
The 2nd time it was, i dont remember the first time this crash happened.
I have installed all the latest service packs of this software on
    the system.
    5) Windows XP SP2, FAT32 partition, 32 GB on my iMac harddisk.
    6) Error - Windows Blue Screen of Death... i caught it only momentarily
as the machine goes into automatic reboot. I did catch USB DRIVER
    in the most recent crash.
    7) Error - Upon reboot, the machine asks to send the error report
to Micosoft. I cant because I dont have an internet access. It did
say that Windows rebooted due to a serious error and asked to send
    the info back to MS.
    8) Error - i was able to screen shot a bit of the error report
but i cant attach a jpeg of the window to this post unfortunately.
Any insight would be appreciated on this.
    Edgar

okay.. i have recreated this hard crash for a third time:
it is definitely the USB Drivers used... blue screen of death states:

  • Ipod crashes windows (blue screen of death)

Hi all. A bit of background info:
A couple of months ago the hard drive crashed on my friends computer. They had to reinstall their OS. Thankfully they had made backups of most everything and were able to get most things reinstalled successfully.
Now they are using a 15g ipod connected through a firewire port on an HP laptop. They do not have a USB adaptor, so gotta go with the FW.
Anyway, when they connect the ipod the computer completely crashes to the blue screen of death and does the physical memory dump. There is an error message, something along the lines of a driver issue.
I know this is vague information, but any pointers on how to proceed in troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated, thanks
    Frost

    hi Frostine!
Anyway, when they connect the ipod the computer completely crashes to the blue screen of death and does the physical memory dump. There is an error message, something along the lines of a driver issue.
we can sometimes narrow this down a bit by checking on the numerical and text codes showing up with the blue screen. (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm checking on:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
can you get that information for us from their PC?
(if the screen is specifying the file that Windows is crashing on, that would be helpful to know too.)

  • Blackberry Media Sync causes Windows "Blue Screen of Death"

I recently suffered a very inconvenient (and costly) "Blue Screen of Death" just after  disconnecting my Pearl 8110 (using Media Sync. I run Windows XP).
I was wondering whether the Blackberry hardware or software had in some way caused this - and whether I should be concerned about using Media Sync in the future.
    Any thoughts?

Who knows? It is possible. There are a couple of threads on here about this (although not Media Sync, just DTM). Check out this thread: http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Desktop-Software/Upgrade-of-Desktop-software-resul...
They mention they found a fix for the problem they were seeing on XP (SP2, not SP3).
I consistently get a system crash immediately on plugging in my BB. I am running 64-bit Vista SP2. I haven't found a solution, yet. And, I have a RAID drive, and have to suffer through a several hour image rebuild after the crash, so I understand "costly." At least I can still use the machine while it rebuilds.

  • Windows Blue Screen of Death

I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death when I am booted in Bootcamp.  Everything appears to boot fine.   I can load applications, but then shortly after using the Windows partition the Blue Screen of Death appears.  I have a MacBook Pro with retina display.  16GB RAM.  The Windows partition has 40GB dedicated to it.  Running Windows 7.  Everything was working fine last week.  I installed some new programs on the Mac Side. I also run Parallels sometimes.

I was able to fix this by restoring to a previous backup of the machine.  It must have been a bad driver.

  • Freeze Blue screen of death Now just boots to CMOS

Hi, a short while ago my laptop froze and I could not do anything other than turn it off.
When I turned it on again it just sat on the MSI logo. After a while I got the blue screen of death. It gave an error code but I was away home home with no way on noting it. It suggested putting the CD I got with the laptop in to run a recovery programme.
Upon getting home I tried this (with the only CD I had) but it did nothing. The laptop just continuously boots to the CMOS. I set the CD drive as the primary boot but that changed nothing.
On booting there is a flash of two small screens of text but it it far to fast to read, before the CMOS loads.
I'm assuming there has been a hardware failure (hard drive?).
Has anyone any ideas on what I should do now?
    Cheers.

Since you have a Windows bootable CD, I would suggest you trying BIOS update. Boot from your Windows CD and access command prompt. Run winflash tool to update your system BIOS. The command you need is afuwinx64.exe XXX.XXX /p /b /n /r (Replace XXX.XXX with your BIOS file)

  • Blue screen of death, crash broke Mac OS but not Windows?

I was just working on installing Fallout on my bootcamp partition of Windows 7. There was a corrupted file that gave me the blue screen crash, and I had to reload windows into safe mode to get it to quit crashing on me. After I had my fun, I needed to go back on my Mavericks side. I clicked the boot camp icon, and just have it the instructions to reboot into the Mac OS. Now it won't load, after the computer restart, I get the grey apple symbol and then a progress bar on the bottom. I wait for the progress bar to do its thing, and as soon as it hits full (~20min) the computer just shuts off. Does anyone have any experience with this? I haven't seen that progress bar in any other Mac OS 10.X. I am also unable to get it to load into safe mode on the Mac side either. Thanks for any advice.

Yes, I have seen that. I am looking for a way to at least save some information while I am at it. I checked out disc utility, it shows that my Mac partition is there, but it is greyed out. When I try to verify/repair it, it says that it can't do it. If I try to restore it to a secondary harddrive, it doesn't work either. Not from disc utility.
I loaded up my windows side, and downloaded Macrium, which is a disc copier. I formatted my secondary hardrive after taking the movies off of it, to FAT32 so I could still read/write from the Windows side. Interestingly enough, the cloner, Macrium, is perfectly capable of accessing my Mac OS partition. Another something interesting is that while I had it copying over my Mac OS partition onto my secondary HDD, I accidently cancelled it while trying to wake my computer up. I went back into disc utility to format that harddrive again to try again, but when it was formatting it, it said it could not unmount my copied files that were from my Mac OS partition onto the secondary harddrive. Does this mean that there is just something wrong with the file system itself? Does anyone know what might cause this? I just don't want to be given a link to erase everything, it isn't helpful at all.

  • Windows Blue Screen of Death when using PC Suite

I bought an E63 recently and by it's very nature I need to be able to link it to my laptop for uploading/downloading data. Laptop's a Sony FE11S running XP SP3 which connects successfully with the E63 via cable or Bluetooth.  Trouble is, I need to import all of my contacts from the PC to the E63 but in PC Suite, as soon as I click on <contacts>  <file>  <import> it crashes bringing up the blue screen.  Tried all the latest software versions including the E63, tried the Nokia PC Suite removal tools, tried only loading essential (windows) programs and still it crashes!  It was over two weeks ago that I contacted Nokia support and all that I've received is a succession of emails (from different people each time) telling me more or less to do the same thing and ignoring my comments and questions, eg. is their a log file somewhere that would tell us where the problem lies?  Tried telephone support a couple of times, hung on for 15 minutes each time only to be cut-off . . !  Beginning to regret I bought a Nokia if this is the extent of their so called support . . . unless there's someone out there who might have a clue as to what's going on . . . any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks for that.  Screen says:
    100.21.110
    14-11-2008
    RM-437
    (c) Nokia E63-1 (223.02)
Going to "Reinstall PC Suite Support" it comes up with a message that says, "PC Suite Support is up to Date".
BUT, I have discovered that turning off Kasperski anti-virus everything springs into life without crashing!  So although I can now load my contacts, etc it would be nice to cure the problem so that I don't have to switch Kasperski off everytime I use PC Suite.  I tried putting PC Suite in Kasperski as an exception (accepted program) but that didn't help.  Any further thoughts?  Thanks.

  • White Screen of Death at Startup - Boot Camp Based Problem

I recently received my Intel-based 20" iMac yesterday and this morning I set it up and transfered all of my files from my old Windows XP computer successfully. I then played around with the iLife suite and a few other programs and decided I should probably run Boot Camp and set up Windows for a few Windows-based programs I need and some games that are Windows only.
I started to look up Boot Camp on the Apple website, then realized iMacs that came with Leapord pre-installed should already have Boot Camp on them. I searched in Spotlight for "Boot camp" and found the "Boot Camp Assistant." I thought that was close enough, so I started the application up.
First, it told me I needed to partition my hard drive and create a space for Windows. I figured I would have only a few esential programs on it, so I opted for a partion of about 10-12 GB if I remember correctly. The installer then told me to insert my Windows disc and I then put in my Windows XP SP1 installation CD. It read it, shutdown, then booted back up into what I recognized as the Windows setup screen.
It went through the normal setup steps, until it got to a point where it asked what partition I should install Windows on. There was only one partition listed, so obviously I chose that one, but what was weird was the partition said it was over 100,000 MB, which is not the 10 GB I told it to partition. I got scared when it told me it would have to format the partition since it wasn't suitable for a Windows installation yet. I figured it wouldn't hurt to recheck the amount I partitioned, so I quit out of the Windows installer.
Next, my Mac restarted and went to the infamous white screen of death.
I have tried basically every single way to fix this.
    I tried:
Alt - Option - PR (Reset the PRam) And waited for both 2, 3, 4, and 5 dings
    Alt
    Option
    Shift (Safe Mode)
Put in the Mac OS X disc and booted up holding:
    D
    C
None of these worked. Sorry if my key abbreviations are off, by the way, because I'm writing this on a Windows laptop and I haven't gotten the keys down for Macs yet.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Apple call support is curretly closed, at least in my timezone. I'll probably try calling them tomorrow, but mostly I'm afraid of having to get a whole new harddrive and/or iMac. I haven't backed up my data anywhere yet (this is just my first day with the Mac) so if I lose the data, there goes upwards of a few thousand dollars in music and other data expenses.
Thanks in advance for ideas, I'll try anything you throw at me now, as long it doesn't void the warranty or involve formatting my hard drive. (Though if you know a way to format my hard drive AND save my data, that would be even better)

All the data that you transfered to the iMac should still be on the PC which originally contained the content. Transferring to the Mac is in reality only copying.
    A Boot Camp Windows installation requires Windows SP2 only;
To use Boot Camp, you need:
    1. An Intel-based Macintosh computer with a built-in or USB keyboard and a built-in trackpad or USB mouse.
    2. Mac OS X 10.5 or later
    3. The latest firmware updates available for your Intel-based Mac.
    4. At least 10 GB of free space on your startup disk (single partition).
    5. A full, single-disc version of Windows Vista, Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later. Boot Camp does not include Windows. You must provide your own properly licensed installation disc.

Important: A Windows XP installation disc must include Service Pack 2 (SP2). You cannot install an earlier version of Windows and upgrade to Windows XP, nor install an earlier version of Windows XP and update it to SP2.

    6. Boot Camp Assistant (find it installed in /Applications/Utilities/ on Leopard).
Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.
    The Forums are at the bottom of the main Apple Discussions page under Windows Compatible Technology. Here is a link;

  • I'm also getting the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death when I boot into Windows

This happened right after I upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes. Everytime I initially boot the computer, it would get into Windows, crashes immediately, then my system reboots and I'm able to get into windows no problem.
Reading the help section it says to go and download & reinstall the previous version of iTunes. Ok simple enough, but where on earth can I find the previous version?? The link it provides takes me to the latest version. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
Can someone please direct me to where I can download the previous version?
    Thanks very much.

    Hi,
Thanks very much for the reply. I'm glad somebody was able to give me this information!
So I went to the website and I downloaded 8.0.0.35, BUT when I tried to install it, I got an error message that said: "A later version of iTunes is already installed on this computer."
I'm afraid if I uninstall my current iTunes, then I will lose all my playlists and stuff. There's no way to just install the old version on top of the new one? If no, is that the proper procedure to uninstall first and then reinstall?
    Thanks.

  • Satellite P200-17B - Blue Screen of Death crashes

    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=26790&tstart=50
In the thread above, I asked for the crash of my P200-17B.
After some reply, I went to the dealer, and they told me, since the crashes of my laptop are not easy to be represent in there support lab.
This maybe hard for them to deal with it. If you insiste to send it TOSHIBA authorized service provider and they can not find anything wrong.
Clearly I have to pay for all related cost. What should I do now?
The crash of the system occurs only once a day, and randomly.
How can I represent the crash in a short time in the dealer's lab?

    Hi wind
Sorry to hear you have this problem. As Eldorado already said try to make picture of this error message.
Anyway the best way to test it properly is to install OS again. You know, if something happens just from time to time it is not easy to say what is wrong there. I presume that service exchange HDD, make clean OS installation and test how it works. If nothing happens there must be everything OK. Before you get your notebook back they put your HDD back and you can use your notebook as before.
I really recommend you to use delivered recovery media and make clean OS installation. Before you do this back up all your data because before recovery procedure starts the whole HDD will be formatted.

  • Windows 7 - Blue screen of death after Boot Camp install

Hello! I have done some searches with no answers, so...
After installing Windows 7 from scratch I then install Boot Camp 3.0 which then leads to the Windows blue screen of death upon reboot. I then have to recover Windows to the previous state prior to installing Boot Camp.
    Help!?

Most likely, Apple HFS read-only, which is AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys - rename those and see.
You might want to run chkdsk after all this to make sure there are no errors with the drive and file system.
Windows Explorer will not accept HFS+ filenames with special characters and will "green bar" and hang when it does, too.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern.
    Rename AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys
By doing the following you will disable HFS mount / read mode on windows XP, Vista, 7.
Navigate to c:/windows/system32/drivers/AppleMNT.sys, rename the AppleMNT.sys file to something like AppleMNT_keep.sys or something of your likings.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern. It seems to happen on many systems.
    You find it in Windows/system32/drivers/AppleHFS.sys
Renaming to AppleHFS_disabled.sys will avoid the blue screens until you have found another solution or Apple updates Bootcamp 3
After renaming both myself because they are no longer "*.sys" or something? they are gone. In my case AppleHFS prevented Windows Backup from running to end and was causing error "some files skipped" and while some might find reading convenient, I prefer Windows not have even read-only access.
You can probably do better with MacDrive, or probably Paragon's HFS driver, to read AND write if needed, to HFS from Windows.
