Windows compatability with Leopard running on a Power Book G4 -

I have recently updated my G4 to Leopard. Was excited to discover Boot Camp only to discover it did not run on my processor - not Intel. Is there a solution out there?

  • A few problems with Leopard running on my White iMac...

I have only found 2 problems so far with Leopard running on my iMac. First off, the most annoying one:
Sometimes, especially when switching users, the screen turns to the "gray screen of death." You know, the one with the request to restart your computer in like 4 languages and a huge picture of a power button... anyway, it is getting quite annoying and I wish I could make it stop. It has also happened when I have been dealing with moving large amounts of data, "large pictures, movies, etc.)
And now, the second problem. I was just looking up the memory left on my hard drive when I noticed something I hadn't before. my 160gb hard drive had 50gb left. not too strange there. but when I checked through all the things (apps, users, system, library, developer, etc.) in it (I simply did apple-i and checked the gb each of them took up) and after a quick add-up on my calculator widget, all the things in the hard drive added up to 50gb. so I have 50gb free, 50gb used and a 160gb hard drive. How does that work? Do I need to do something to get that extra 60gb back or is it just gone???

Is there any way just to show hidden folders like on a PC?
There's probably a way to coerce Finder.app into showing everything
(all is possible in unix) -- but I don't know the OS-X magic words.
It told me that improper of the "sudo" command could lead to data loss
and i don't want to risk doing anything stupid (like a misspelling) that
could lead to my hard drive being wrecked.
Good advice. IMO, the 'du' (disk usage) command is safe, because it's
'read only' -- but I undestand that you'd be hesitant to trust your data
to advice fom an anonymous voice from "The Internets." I can't/won't
    argue with common sense.
You can run the same command without the 'sudo' prefix. It might
miss a few things and/or spit some 'permission denied' messages,
but the results will at least be a lower-bound of disk usage.

  • Skype compatibility with Leopard

I am having trouble running Skype on my iMac G5 2.0 w/ 2 gig running Leopard. The icon just bounces without starting up. I have the latest version of Skype (2.6) loaded and it worked without problems when I had 10.4.10 loaded. No other compatibility issues with my other applications identified yet.
Other background ... Skype works fine on my MacBook 2.0 with Leopard.
    Any thoughts or experiences?
    Thanks

Or if you want to keep the firewall on, either don't exit Skype but only put your computer to sleep when not using it instead of switching off completely or when you start your computer up re-install Skype. You don't have to uninstall, just keep the dmg file on your computer and reinstall from it agreeing to replace the previous version when you drag it to your apps folder. Thats what I've done and works fine.

  • Which windows 7 or 8 run best on mac book pro with retina

I need to run Windows on my Mac for School.  Which one is best to install, Windows 7 or *?

I prefer Windows 7 because Windows 8 is designed for a touch screen. It will work but it is sometimes a pain sliding windows with the trackpad or mouse in Windows 8. Windows 8 has the fallback capability of using the old desktop, somewhat. But Windows 8 remains, at least for me, clumsy to use without a touch screen.

  • G4 compatibility with Leopard

I just bought a 12" Powerbook G4 in February, as the MacBook Pros were being released. Now that I see the whole Apple lineup moving to Intel processors, I'm getting a bit jealous but I really want to know if Leopard would be able to run on a G4, not just Intel based Macs. I watched Steve Jobs' Keynote Address but he didn't discuss that.

Until the minimum system specifications required for Leopard are released by Apple, it is purely speculation at this point but it is highly unlikely a G4 PPC Mac will not be supported by Leopard especially when the transition to Intel processors began this year.
The minimum specifications for Tiger are as follows:
Mac OS X Version 10.4 requires a Macintosh with:
    * PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor
    * Built-in FireWire
    * At least 256MB of physical RAM
    * A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
    * At least 3.0 GB of available space on your hard drive; 4GB of disk space if you install XCode 2 developer tools
    * DVD drive for installation (get CD media for $9.95)
Although the minimum specifications for Leopard may not be 100% identical to this, I seriously doubt your 12" PB G4 will not be supported.

  • HP Printer compatibility with leopard

I have a HP Deskjet 3845 (3840 series) and I cannot print from it wirelessly (mac printing to a printer hooked up w windows xp). I checked HP and got the drivers and installed them-successfully, but they don't show up in "PRINT".
I then installed all extra drives from leopard install disk 1 and successful install, but it still didn't respond in PRINT under drivers.
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi Bri95, did you download the new drivers from software update? One thing that happened to me was the new driver update from apple messed up my driver. run the uninstaller then restart then download the latest driver (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=e n&product=372330) and install. restart then it should be fine.
But seeing that HP's driver is from 11/07, maybe check software update and see if you downloaded the file already, the newer one from Apple. Sorry if this is confusing.

  • Windows Compatibility With HP w1907 Monitor

Is my HP w1907 monitor compatible with Windows 8?  The Copyright on the software disc is 2006-2007.  Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes it is, you need the right port on your machine to connect to it. It has one VGA port and one DVD-D port.

  • Potoshop's tools and windows disappears with Leopard's Spaces.

    Dear friends,
I was having very annoying problem with PS CS3 and spaces. Interface disappears when you focus a program that is on other space. This was with Photoshop CS3 and Flash CS3 trials. I'm very sad about this. Instead of optimizing the process its actually making it more annoying. For photoshop I used "tab" key twice to hide/show the interface, then it gets back. For flash, F4 does the same thing. But it's annoying.....
    Mac Pro 2 x 2.8GHz Xeons with 2GB RAM.
I've seen a couple of guys having the same thing. Anyone found a solution?
    Thanks.

I've noticed that same issue if I use the dock icons to act as application/space switchers but only on Adobe apps most notably Photoshop but occasionally Illustrator too it seems. I've adopted a different solution which seems to solve that options bar/tool box disappeaing act. In System Preferences/Exposé there is an option to use hot corners. I've assigned Spaces to my lower right corner. Flicking my cursor to that corner gives me a graphic image of all my spaces and windows open in each. In that image I can select my Photoshop space and don't experience the interface disappearing issue.

  • (URGENT) eMac with leopard running FCE 2?

I have an apple eMac running 10.5.8 and i got a great deal on FCE 2.0 i was wondering if this would work on the machine?

Yes, FCE 2 should run fine on an eMac with 10.5.8
If it were me, I'd prefer FCE 3 or 3.5 on your machine but if your deal is for FCE 2, you'll be fine.

  • Adobe CS2 compatibility with Leopard 10.5.1

I need to boot from the disks on an old iMac -- but I can't locate those disks. I do have an unused Leopard 10.5.1 that I could use -- but I need to make sure that Adobe CS2 will still work on that computer. Does anyone know if it will work?

Ha-ha.... I had an IT guy tell me it would overwrite the system but wouldn't mess with the data or the programs -- but he couldn't tell me if they were compatible... I guess this why I'm not computer guru!

  • RD700sx compatibility with Leopard

Anyone with an RD-700sx able to say whether or not it can be used as a midi controller with the Leopard OS? The Mac drivers up on the Roland website are from 2006, which is Tiger-era.
    Thanks,
    Ken

I followed the instructions that come with the "RD-700SX Driver Version 1.2.0 for Mac OSX" available here: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?dsection=d_downloads&Object Id=666
and, the RD-700sx worked with Garageband (as a controller).
This is on a Macbook with 10.5.1

  • Microsoft office 2000 compatibility with Leopard

  • VI backwards compatibility with older run-time Engines

I currently developed a VI in Labview 8.6.1.  I also created an exe for it so that I can run it on another computer.  However, the other computer has an older version of the Run-Time engine installed and so my program cannot be executed on that computer without upgrading the run-time engine to 8.6.1.  But....that computer also has some programs that run on that version of run-time engine.  I have two options here but I do not know the effects or how to do it.
    1) Install a newer version of the run-time engine (8.6.1) - Will this break the current functionality of the programs already on it?
    2) Is it possible to have my VI run on older versions of the run-time engine?  If so, how do I do that?
    Thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As dennis said simply install the new runtime engine. We have machines that have 5 versions of the runtime engine on them and we haven't experienced any problems.
