Windows Compatibility (IE) / Load Time / PNG Files

I host my website on Mobile Me and have had several Windows users look at my site complaining about load time and scrolling issues (up and down the frame is jumpy). I have heard that some older versions of IE cannot work with PNG files very well. I suppose this "may" be the issue. Any thoughts on how to get the web site working more smoothly for those people on Windows using IE? Also, some Firefox users have stated they too have issues when viewing via a Windows a system. Thanks...

Hi!
yeah I initially went through some pains in getting my music to play back under IE as well
www.mafmusic.net
first, post your website
i will then it on my computer (a dual quad core mac pro) and my wife's macbook pro
using both firefox and safari
i also have a pc here (piece of crap) that i can use to test it using ie if you wish
or ask my friends
to test it
i am almost retiring, but have been working from our home for the past few years on a pc
i do database design and data analysis
let me know what you think
about these suggestion
take care and good luck
ps if you like music go to my site and let me know what you like, etc
am open to suggestions

    true or false: using pngs (specifically png-8's WITHOUT alpha
    transparency,
    but with gif-style 1-bit transparency) adds load time to a

    comparable transparent gif of the same file size.
    I have been told this is causing some latency and it doesn't

    False. Because the PNG file compression algorithm is more
    efficient than
    the GIF file's simplistic algorithm, an 8-bit PNG image will
    always be about
    10-15% smaller than the comparable GIF image, and perhaps
    more if the image
    contains vertical bands or textures. Also, comparing the
    render times for
    two images, of the identical weight, where one is GIF and the
    other is PNG,
    would show no difference.

  • LabVIEW Compare Tool load time of files from repository

    I have the LabVIEW compare tool setup for differences for .ctl and .vi files in Surround SCM source code control system.  The source code control system runs on a networked server.  My PC is on the same network as the server.
    When the LabVIEW compare tool reads VIs that are from a source control repository for diffing against files on my computer, it seems to load the repository files from a temporary folder located in users\username\appdata.  It takes a long time to load VIs that have lots of subVIs because as the tool searches for each subVI the tool begins its search in the vi.lib and instr.lib folders before finding the subVI in the temporary folder.  It is taking a few seconds and sometimes as much as 10 seconds to load each subVI.  This takes a lot of time to Diff VIs that have many subVIs.  Is there a way to make the diffing process go quicker?  Or is this something that would need to be fixed in the LabVIEW compare tool?
    Thanks,
    Gary
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    That's the normal behavior of the LVCompare.exe, and the folders at which starts looking for subVIs or control files (.ctl) cannot be modified. The available options that can be configured are the following:

  • Page not found, slow loading times CC Files

    Hi,
    Two weeks ago I reported that there were CC files problems like 'page not found' errors and slow loading times and pages not even showing anything. Those problems were temporarily resolved but are back as of today.
    Please fix this because for me this is not workable and I guess for many others. I've already moved part of my design files away from CC Files and am now reaching the point were I want to abandon this beta-ware altogether.
    I'm living in Europe, maybe this gives additional info. Maybe server problems only in this continent?
    Thanks for looking into this.

    So what product would you advice me to file this bug report under? There is no Creative Cloud Files entree or similar.
    I'm not sure I'm taken by Adobe support channels policies. if I tweet a complaint some employee tell me I'll be called back by support. Instead of being called back I get asked per email to report on the community forums, when I post on the forum someone tells me to file a bug report. Ehhh...
    Time to move on.

  • Site loads slow - PNG files?

    Hi there
    I made a site in iWeb and am hosting it privately (not with .mac) Thing is, it loads real slow - I even totally re-designed it to have no background, smaller pictures and more text but it still loads VERY slowly.
    How can I make the text just be text and the images just be JPGs? Seems that everything on my site: every textbox, every icon every pic is a PNG file.
    Shouldnt it be html or something 'normal' like that?
    Please could someone help me with this?
    Thanks!
    MacBook 13" (White)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Web "safe" fonts are the answer to the text question. Any non Web safe font will be converted to an image (.png) by iWeb. Open Font Book app to learn more.
    The "reflections" feature will convert your .jpg into a much larger .png file. Turn it off and only a .jpg will be used.

  • How to create a swatch library from multiple png files?

    Illustrator CC
    I am having a difficult time trying to create a new swatch libray of patterns from multiple png files. The way I am doing this is very slow and repetitive and seems silly for a tool as advanced as the latest CC suite including illustrator.
    What it seems I must do is open all the png files in Illustrator, creating multiple workspaces, drag one png file into the swatch window, then save that window as a library, close the existing window to reveal the next png file, open the user library I just created, drag the next image into the currently active swatch window, then drag the previous swatch/s from the user library into the current active swatch window, resave and replace the user defined swatch library (now with two images in there)fromthe updated current active swatch panel/window, close the existing workspace to reveal the next image file, and then repeat the process again, slowly building the user defined swatch library up by adding one image at a time and then adding back into the Swatch panel the previously built up library of swatches again one at at time.  (you can select all from the existing  user defined library and drag over into swatch panel, but this creates at least one  duplicate on each cycle for as soon as you click on the first swatch in the library, it adds itto the current swatch panel and then when you select all swatches to drag across it includes the first swatch and copies it again)
    This is a very slow process to build up a swatch library. For some reason you cannot drag swatches directly into  the user defined library you have created, only into the active swatch window for each workspace. I searched the web and forums  for answers but could find none. There must be an easier way,  just can't find it.
    Ideally, the best option would be a swatch window  option that allows the import directly from a list of selected files in the finder.
    Any ideas out there?

    Monika,
    Thank you for responding, however I am not exactly clear on what you mean by "libraries are plain AI files". For example, I cannot find a file with the same name as my user defined library name that I have created. I can find the preinstalled swatches listed under Adobe Application Support... Library... Swatches, but a user defined folder is not present and the library sets that I have already created are not visible. I have tried searcing my Mac for a (name).ase file and still no luck (at least for the name I was looking for). I can open the user defined library from the Swatch library icon on the bottom left of the Swatch panel, but when I open this I cannot drag and drop add new swatches directly to this library. As stated above, I have to add each pattern, one at at time to the normal swatch panel, then add back the previous ones I have saved from the user defined library to the swatch panel and then save threm all as an updated user defined library. Thus by repeating this process, it builds up the user defined library one at a time.
    I am using Illustrator CC if this makes a difference.

  • Jump between PNG file and Mov file

    We are creating an iPad application, in it we bring 3 different elements to screen using a MP4 video clip, once the movie ends, we load a PNG file and have each of the 3 elements as different touch points. When you click 1 element it opens a related MP4 video clip. Therefore, 3 items open 3 different video clips. The problem is when you touch one of the elements, there is a JUMP between the PNG file and the Video clip (the video player loading time). What can we do to fix this issue so the applicaiton will run seamless without a JUMP.

    Ravi, is there a possible when you added the png to your primary storyline, you accidentally chose the non option in the spatial conform settings?
    If your image is larger than your timeline frame size, what will happen is if you choose the none option, the image will be added at full frame and centered.
    What you need to do is before adding your png's to your timeline, hilight the png and in the inspector make sure FIT is selected.
    Hope that helps
    Tony

  • Why is it that Photoshop Elements takes a very long time to open a png file?

    Even though I wait for a very long time (minutes)  for Photoshop Elements 11 to open a PNG file, the computer's process monitor shows nothing discernible going on while I am waiting.
    This is on a Windows 7 machine with an Intel I7 4 core processor.

    I killed Firefox and Thunderbird and tried it again.  Using a stopwatch, it took 5 minutes 54 seconds to open the file.  In the interim the application windows were frozen.  The process monitor showed Photoshop not responding.  The thread analysis showed a thread waiting on splwow64.exe.
    splwow64.exe allows 32-bit applications to connect with the 64-bit printer spooler service on x64 Windows builds.
    I should also point out that when I exit Photoshop, it does not seem to die.  I cannot restart it in the normal way.  The starter software just goes away when I click on PE 11.  I finally fo into the task monitor and kull the PhotoshopElements process.  Then I can restart Photoshop Elements.  Although after a long time since I exited PE while I was writing this post, I then just tried opening PE the normal way and it worked.  Many of these items I mention are probably red herrings.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

    I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
    The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
    I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
    I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
    After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
    Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
    Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
    Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
    That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • .png file not showing up on windows VM

    Hello,
    I have users who are having issues seeing .png files when using a windows VM.  This is a windows environment.  The business partner is using a Mac pro and creates the .png file in creative suite and saves the file to a windows 2008 server.  When they try to insert the file into a powerpoint on their Windows 7 VM, they cannot find the file.  It shows up about 10-15 mins later.  But they can access it from the Mac right away.  We are running Extremez IP on the server.  Is this a known issue with this OS/macs in windows environment/extremez IP?

  • Reducing a SWF file size / creating "instance names" for website loading time improvement

    Im hoping someone clever can help...
    What i have done so far:
    1) Created a flipbook using indesign CS5.5 that contains approx 25
    images (embedded PNG's), these need to be good quality as this is a
    portfolio - I'd also like to keep the 'page curl' effect. This makes the SWF generated cira 25MB.
    2) created a Flash website "wrapper" to hold the above flipbook and add
    features such as "bookmarks", links to other sites and forward/backward
    page navigation buttions.
    The issue we have is that because the flipbook SWF is 25MB the site
    load time is slow.
    What can be done to speed this up without compromising the image
    quality?
    1) Is there a way to make the indesign SWF smaller?
    2) is there a way in indesign to properly give each page an
    "instance name" so that they can be controlled from flash and therefore
    I can load each pages image as and when needed.
    any other ideas?
    (If you'd like to visit the website to view the loading issue http://www.lizblackdesigns.co.uk)
    Thanks
    Liz

    these need to be good quality as this is a portfolio
    The approach to your portfolio website seems very outdated and will not help you in the near future. Flash is being used less and less with the increase in Mobile Devices being used to access the internet - a large chunk of which include Apple's iDevices which don't support Flash. This alone is a reason not to do it, however there are a few other big issues with the method you have chosen.
    There is no "content" on your website for any search engine to find. No text. No meta data. No image alt tags. No titles. Nothing. In other words, your website will not be found by the people you are trying to attract. I would imagine for a portfolio site, you may want to re-think this approach.
    The way the Flash file was created is the worst possible way to add Flash to the web as you have only embedded image files - and this is your entire site?! You could have included some text, which would have been viewable by search engines, and used color shapes to increase quality but lower filesize.
    The filesize meant it took me over 1 minute to get off your home page. The average internet user will leave your site if you do not keep them interested after 5 seconds. In other words, you should have content of interest viewable within 5 seconds of load time.
    If you are set on keeping the Flash setup for your website, re-build using as much text, color shapes and lines as you can (vector work in other words) and do not rasterize/export as image. This will drastically reduce load time and increase quality. You will also want to divide your file into sections and create more than 1 HTML page so that the browser only loads a bit at a time. You might also want to set a maximum size container for the Flash file as on my browser, it looks extremely pixelated and is very large, but unclear.
    I would suggest looking into HTML5 if you are keen to create a website that can be viewed by around 98% of the web surfing people and it will also mean you can use an image slider (or similar) to show good quality images of your work. This will aid your site in being found by search engines but will also allow you to update sections of the site without re-publishing the entire Flash file.

    Stefano,
    if you open files in TestStand, TestStand tracks this in different configuration files (for example for the "most recently used" list). Therefore, TestStand tries to save these changes in the ini-files. It seems to me, that the installationdirectory of TestStand is not permitted to be used for writing for your user login in Windows.
    So you have different solutions here, the simpliest being:
    Give your user the right to write files into the < TestStand >\-folder.
    hope this helps,

  • Dreamweaver File load time

    Hi!
    I'm wondering of the weight of Dreamweaver on my PC....
    ..... yeah, my PC sucks and isn't enough to have good
    prestations, but I'am in the minimun requirements.
    I have CPU: PIII 800Mhz, RAM: 512 MB, SO: Windows 2000 Pro
    I work with it and I'm in a Corporate LAN.
    Now my question is about the load time of the files.
    My .asp pages load significally slow .... and Dreamweaver
    freezes during the needed load time ....
    .... it could be the delay caused from the load time of the
    file from the server..... and it's ok.... BUT...
    .... after had loaded the file it has a period of freezing
    again as it is working on the file.
    Why do it happen? Is it removable?
    I mean that, maybe, it's doing something I don't need...... I
    use DW pretty like a text editor (like it for the AutoComplete,
    Code Highlight and, over all, the Code Compression) and I don't
    need anything else.
    Can someone tell me what this 'freeze time' after the loading
    is for? (maybe code analisys, or other stuff like that..).
    I hope you understood my poor english!
    Thank you a lot! :)

    Wow. You sir are a genius, haha.
    I posted my old method and some comparison times.
    I was trying to output every byte into a JTextArea.
    your method took 0 milliseconds to load 302,644 bytes!!!
    (once it took 10 ms and once 40 ms but then 15+ times 0)
    if i output every byte into the JTextArea using
         for(int i = 0; i <= buf.length-1; i++){
         jta.append("\n " + buf);
    added to your code it took 11,367 milliseconds
    here is my old method
         try{
         int b;
         boolean eof = false;
         FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(f);
         System.out.println("Starting");
           long t = System.currentTimeMillis();
         while(!eof){
         b = fin.read();
    //     System.out.println("" + b);
         if(b == -1){
         eof = true;
         System.out.println ("Reading took " +  (System.currentTimeMillis() - t) + " ms");
         fin.close();
        }      catch (EOFException e) {}
             catch (IOException e) {}it took 591 milliseconds without the System.out.println
    with it took 59,367 milliseconds
    so the System.out was slowing it down alot.
    Appending the data to the JTextArea is almost as costly.
    Do the buffer sizes need to be a power of 2?
    What is the max buffer youd suggest to be practical?
