  • Trying to run windows compatible software on mac

Love my new mac. Have no desire to go back to windows or microsoft ever again. That said my daughter has one drawing program that software is listed as compatible with windows only (from fisher price) that she loved before our last computer died. Is there any hope or downloads I can use in order to get this up on my mac? It's really the only windows related thing I need, I don't want to have to purchase XP and get it on this as well for one thing, was hoping by now there was some sort of download that would allow software to be played on apple.

Try Crossover before you buy it. They have a great idea. The problem is there aren't a lot of programs it works with easily. I usually use VMWare Fusion and windows xp pro. That works good for most things.
If your daughter wants a nice drawing program there are some good ones for Macs. Try SeaShore or PaintBrush. They are both good and fairly simple to use. The price is right also:->

is this true or can anybody offer advice on this subject or know of any external drivers i can download to make it work..?
    Help..!
    Thx in advance - S.

Upgrade to 10.4.9 and see if that makes a difference.
10.4.9 provides limited support for some USB webcams.

  • Can I use Windows compatible software on my new MacPro with Retina Display or do I need to purchase new software? If possible to use this software, how do I do this?

Is it possible to use my Windows software like Quicken or Turbo Tax with my new Mac Pro with Retina Display or will I need to purchase all new
software. If there is a way, exactly how do I do it? I am new to Mac and cannot seem to make anything work.
    Thank you,

Install Windows either with BootCamp or virtualization software
Otherwise a Mac is not able to run Windows software

  • Mac Compatible Windows Office software

    Dear All,
I've just installed my Mac compatible Windows Office software but there is this pop up that says that an 'unexpected error has taken place at the Windows Library Frame'. I wonder what it is. Does anyone have the same experience, or could anyone enlighten and help on this?
    Thanks!
    McIdiot

I had the same experience and I HATE these people who tell you its not a mac problem! IF they don't know and have no experience, why bother answering, huh?!
Wow... that's a lot of unnecessary anger you've got built up there.
Templeton Peck is correct... as usual.
Apple Discussions is NOT a support forum for Microsoft products, and provided the proper direction to the user so they would receive the best possible assistance.
I see you are fairly new here, so perhaps I can offer some advice for you.
Try not to HATE the experienced volunteers here, as you yourself may need help from someone in the future.
Be polite. That's one of the guidelines here.

  • Windows Support Software and Partitian question

I'm making a boot camp partition and it asked me to download the windows support software. Is this the same thing that is on my Macbook Pro install disk? And once made can the partitan be resived with disk utility or such software? Thanks.

That "download" only works for now on MacBook Air, yes it is sortof what is on your OS X DVD (never has worked but if it was 'smart' it would provide the full Boot Camp 3.2 current set of drivers, as is you have to insall off your OEM DVD and update).
Over plan the size, resize only with CampTune and maybe iPartition, not a great idea at all. Double your best guess.
Windows needs 9GB for updates like SP1 to perform, page file, hibernation, core system (20GB) plus room for profiles, cache, temp files, data, and applications you add.

  • Why can't I download Windows Support Software

For just over 60 hours I have been attempting, unsuccessfully, to download Windows support software for Boot Camp. I have mad 71 attempts, at all hours of day and night and have received the following message each and every time:
"Can't install Windows Support Software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
I have installed Windows 7 in a Boot Camp Partition, but am unable to use my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. In fact I cannot even use a USB keyboard and mouse.
In Windows  I am only able to use a USB keyboard and mouse by hitting F8 as Windows 7 boots and going into safe mode. I would have thought I should be able to go into Windows normally and have USB keyboard and Mouse functionality.
From within Windows I have attempted to run the menu selection "Apple Software Update" - but installation is not possible in Safe Mode.
Here's are two other behaviors  that puzzles me:
    1. When I boot Windows into Safe Mode I can use the wireless keyboard to select which safe mode option.
    2. I can use the USB keyboard to log in to a normal boot up of Windows, but after that there is no response to either keyboard.
Any help on how to download the needed drivers will be appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Your using 10.7.2 on what model/year computer?
As far as not being able to download the files you'll have to do a search in the forums as there are a few that have had your problem, mostly form last fall, but different issues for different models.
Can you use the internet from the Apple Store, Library, friend, neighbor, etc, to try downloading them. You might have to give Apple a shout as this is just a user to user forum.
Can't use wireless mouse/keyboards as Windows doesn't have dirvers for wireless items, at least not Apple compatible. Only WIRED mice/keyboards are supported. As far as using them in Safe Mode, that is curious.
Maybe boot from the Mac's "Repair Partition" and Repair Disk and Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
Well that's as far as my knowledge goes so good luck....

  • ErrorCan't install Windows Support Software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server.

When I try to install bootcamp I get the above error. I have OS X 10.7.4 and intel 2.16 Ghz core 2 duo chip.  I am not connected to a network.  None of the proxy servers are checked.  I have restared the assistant twice and get the same error.

the question has been asked multiple times today, this week, for over a year, and even in the last hour. the answer does not change? It does get rather old for some of us who see the same question day and month after month.
It is and has been deplorable and has not been officially addressed or acknowleged. To the best of my knowledge this you can do, besides keep retrying -

Boot in Safe Mode and try to download the Windows Support Software and follow these tips:
Advanced Network: Proxy Settings, I uncheck "Auto Proxy detection" and make sure you have the interface you use selected and none others.
"Go into System Preferences - Network - Advanced - Proxies  Uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery", click OK, Apply"
After Unchecking "Auto Proxy Discovery" I also had to Uncheck "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" and then Restart Boot Camp Assistant.
odiggy's comment and tried restarting Boot Camp Assistant. That did the trick, even though the Auto Proxy Discovery checkbox ended up the same as it started.  Windows support software is now downloading...  if you're downloading to an external drive make sure there's a least 1 GB of free space because the WindowsSupport folder is around 700 MB and presumably will grow with time.

Also, Change Domain Name Servers to OpenDNS IP address servers - that should be at the router firewall rather than the OS but may be in both for some people. You may be using the defaults your ISP uses, save those if you want, and try these:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Make sure you are not using LittleSnitch or Symantec (probably other 3rd party firewall) which do interfere, a Safe Boot should bypass their loading also - there are other products that interfere as well and some now with Mountain Lion.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • What export options in Quicktime Pro or Final Cut Pro should I select to export  HDV video in .MOV files to highest quality Windows-compatible files?

I have some HDV video files imported through iMovie to .MOV files with Apple Intermediate Codec.
I need to convert these to Windows compatible video files of the highest possible ( least loss) quality.  What export options in Final Cut Pro or in Quicktime Pro should I select?  The codex in the converted files must not be Apple Intermediate Codec, for which there is no Windows version.

Okay, I read the whole Flip4Mac website.
Flip4Mac is an application for Apple computers.
Perhaps my question was unclear.  When I posed it I was thinking of asking somebody with an Apple shop to do the conversion for me, and wanted advice on settings for his QUicktime Pro /Final Cut Pro that would produce the highest quality Windows -compatible files.
The Windows version of Quicktime will not play Quicktime files with Apple Intermediate Codec.  You get black screen video, although the audio does come through.
So here's what I need:  I need a Windows application that will transcode Quicktime files in Apple Intermediate Codec, with no loss or very little loss, to WIndows-compatible files.   All Windows, all the time.  Thank you.

  • Can not download Windows Support Software on Bootcamp 5.0

    Hi guys,
I'm running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Bootcamp 5.0.
Recently bought Windows 7 Home Prof. and installed it already via Bootcamp.
All nice and well so far
Only when I'm trying to download the windows support software it starts with the download, but somewhere in the
middle of it stops and comes up with the message that it could not download the file.
I have tested my internet connection and it runs as usual.
    My questions are:
    1. Is there another place I can get windows support software for Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and download it manually?
    2. What's causing my problem?
    3. Is it possible to downgrade to an earlier bootcamp version if that solves the issue?
Thank you & looking forward to your ideas.!

I have the same situation, very frustrating. When I go to download the support software it stalls with the insallation bar at about 20% complete, then nothing, 20 minutes of nothing moving!
I quit after 20 minutes. What's up with "support" software that doesn't work? If support doesn't work doesn't leave much confidence in anything else.
    Read This
    Thanks Bob.
    I finally got it working.
In the end what was needed was a huge amount of patience.
After about 6 attempts downloading the windows support software and burn it
To a CD, I had another 5 attempts downloading and saving the file to an external
    Memory drive.
Sometimes it got stuck at 20%
other times the download bar went to 40-50% and then got stuck with the error message.
During all my attempts I had the same network settings and I always was connected to my broadband Internet via wireless LAN.
Initial time invested was 2-3 days as the waiting always took a lot of time until the error message showed up.
I'm happy that my bootcamp windows finally has the drivers it needs,
But apple should seriously consider to check their download servers as
The next person who has to sit through this process will certainly
Not speak that diplomatic about this experience.
Try again, be patient, 20 mins is nothing.

  • Looking for a company to write Labview compatible software

Extech Instruments is a manufacturer of hand held test instruments (www.extech.com) . Along with our proprietary products we also import and private label a number of instruments from the far east. Many of these instruments have custom RS232 software available that allow them to communicate with a Windows XP compatible PC via the serial port.
We are looking at being able to offer these instruments with LabView compatible software/drivers? that would allow our users to integrate the instruments into their data acquisition systems.
We are looking for a company that would be able to take the existing instrument and software and do the programming so that we can offer a finished product with a LabView Compatib

Here is my question: I have MBP early 2011 and was trying to download Windows supporting software’s using Bootcamp 5.0 but a box appears saying “Can't download Windows support software because of a network problem” so what can I do to address this problem?

I tried to select and deselect the Passive FTP Mode to see if that helps as it is recommended by other users before posting my question here to see if that was the problem but that didn't change anytihing. I also tried it before commenting to your response if there was any change and there wasn't any
