Windows computers on the network disappeared from the browser

I own a macbook pro 10.6.4 and in the office we have an imac and 7 windows 7 pc. Till last week I could able to see all the computers on the network under "Shared" and able to connect them. Office printer is shared via one of the pc thats why I cannot add it to use. I can connect them with "connect server" by using their ip or names. Also I can only see imac under "Shared". How can I be able to see all the computers under "Shared" again and add the printer. Thank you.

nothing. all the computers except imac disappeared suddenly. it happened once a couple of weeks again but it lasted like a day.

I tried "Copy" and paste but it doesn't work. I tried "Share" with Airdrop and iChat, but the file is inaccessible. When i try to rename the file, it says the filename is too long.
When I try to open it, it says the alias is not good, and asks if I want to fix the alias. I'm afraid to do that and lose all access to this document.
Right now, it feels like a ghost document - it is on the computer intact, but it is in an undisclosed location and inaccessible.
Please help!!

I was able to resolve this by repairing permissions, even though no permissions error was listed specifically for that file.
I could also have recovered it through Time Machine, but I'm interested in knowing how not to have this happen again!
I was afraid of rebooting and possibly losing track even of the ghost.
I did not try EasyFind - I'll keep that in mind next time.

Did you use any of the "sleep" drivers supplied? I have found it best to just totally reformat/erase the drives and let the OS handle them.

HT1751 Is there any way to transfer my music to an External Hard Drive and have the music disappear from the library until I plug in the Hard Drive?

I have an old External Hard Drive that stores all my music from years ago. I was wondering if it was possible to have the music only appear in the Itunes library when the External Hard Drive was plugged in. So when it is not I just have the music I have added recently, not the thousands of songs from the late 90's. I do not always keep my External plugged in and when it is not all the thousands of songs come up with the and is slightly annoying. Someone I knew in the past had the Itunes set up this way but did not know how it was done. Any help would be appreciated!

My sent emails do not save in the sent folder. After mozilla runs the indexing service the emails disappear from the sent folder. I've checked the account settings and its correct. What do I need to do?

it works on another pc.

When apple tv syncs with itunes the media disappears from the apple tv

evrytime i purchase something through the apple tv i can play it on my tv until it syncs with itunes. after the sync the media just transfers over to my computer. how can I leave the stuff I buy in apple tv stay in the apple tv. and all of those other purchases that transfered into itunes how can I get them back on the apple tv?

Someone above mentioned this, and the answer is to make sure you're either set in iTunes to sync ALL episodes of your shows, or if you're set for ALL UNWATCHED, as I was, mark the episodes that were transferred to iTunes "New", then re-sync. Poof, they will all be copied back to ATV, where they will remain until you have watched them, even with iTunes shut down. I wrestled with this problem for 24 hours before it occurred to me.

All photos disappeared from the corkboard of Iphoto, and when I try to put the new faces there,it does not register anything.The names appear under the photos,but the board remains empty.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Serial number disappears from the system profiler... How to get it back?

We have come across a known behaviour where the serial number of the computer disappears from the system profiler and 'about this mac' menu, whwnever the logic board is replaced. Any ideas how to get this information back on the computer(Seems all the macs are affected)
Is it possible to flash the firmware to copy the contents? Heard someone trying to flash BIOS? will this work or will it damage the firmware? Please HELP!!!

It is possible for a system to lose its serial number so that it will no longer appear either in System Profiler or the I/O Registry. Repairing a system by swapping hardware components is one reason this can happen. Apple does not document the specific details of how a machine can lose its serial number. Once the serial number has been lost there is no means to restore it to the machine."
It sounds like there may not be an easy (or documented) way to put the serial number back.

RIB 13.2.x - Subscribers disappeared from the rib-rms-gui

I am running into an issue with 2 environments so far, we installed RMS 13.2 with RIB 13.2 and when we first deployed the RIB we could see all the subscribers and publishers in the RIB_GUI screens.
After a while and maybe after applying patches, not exactly sure when this start happening, the subscribers disappeared from the RIB-GUI but if you look at the log files the subscribers are still running, just not visible in the GUI tool.
Any suggestions on how to get them back in the GUI?

Well, I can explain this if someone changed one of the main XML RIB files that define the list of relevant adapters.

When I click on the - fire fox disappears from the task bar; it is still open but gone from the task bar, if I click on any icon it opens a new Firefox window, I end up with several windows open but none on the task bar.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

In Firefox v4.0.1, custom toolbars disappear from the toolbar menu when I open a "New Window".

I created a new toolbar in Customize... / Add New Toolbar. It's on the list of toolbars and opens up '''most times''' I start Firefox, but not ''always''. I have tested it and it is completely random.

Same type of problem as 1., but '''''everytime''''' I use the 'New Window' feature the custom toolbar disappears from the toolbar menu and if I need to use it, I have to '''save all tabs as bookmark''' then close and reopen FireFox so I get my original window [where the toolbar shows up]. AARRRGHH.
I've been using FF for 7 years now, so I know enough to rule out corrupted localstore.rdf, new or updated add-ons (I could be wrong though, as I often am...).

This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number. It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

I have installed bootcamp by the bootcamp assistant and worked properly.
Then I have partitioned the OS X 10.8.2 and installed another Mountain Lion System and I have got two MAC boot options and Bootcamp disappeared from the Option menu. However, Bootcamp still remained in the Startup Disk in the System Preferences. When I tried to boot Bootcamp using the Startup Disk it did not boot and received a message that there is no bootable device. I have not lost any data and can read Bootcamp partition from both OS X systems. Please advise how can I boot Windows / Bootcamp again? Thank you.

Recommendation 1: Use a VM for this. It's essentially a giant C.F. to do this with native booting, and is potentially fragile.
But if you're going to ignore that and do this anyway, realizing that it can break anytime in particular with OS upgrades, and that it's very difficult to impossible to resize the three volumes once you've installed the systems:
1. create three partitions, setting each to be the size for OS X copy 1, copy 2, and Windows respectively. The Windows partition needs to be set to MS-DOS format (actually FAT32) which later in the Windows installer you'll reformat as NTFS. Do not use Boot Camp Assistant to resize/partition the disk, it simply won't work for this use case.
2. install OS X copy 1
3. install OS X copy 3
4. Use gdisk (available at sourceforge) which is a command line only application, to create a new hybrid MBR adding only the last partition (Windows) to the hybrid MBR and setting it to be bootable. As a concequence you will not be able to see/share either OS X volume from within Windows. The Windows NTFS volume will be visible from within OS X.
5. Install Windows to the only partition its installer should see (confirm size), you'll need to format it NTFS first, and I suggest using the fast format option if available.
