Windows Connection

We have an Apple xserve that is setup sharing files. We are a school that is setup to allows users to connect to the server from home. We are able to connect no problem with a Mac but a PC will not allow us to connect and we can not figure out why. Any one that can help would be great. We are not sure if it is a configuration of our firewall or our xserve.

We've been having a similar problem; this past weekend i upgraded our Xserve to 10.5.1 from 10.3.9. everything appears to be running smoothly except for Samba.
in the logs, samba reports that it cannot access a file, and fails in trying to do so.
the PC's can see the Xserve on the network, can PING it both by dns name and by IP address; but i think the problem lies in samba. from what i've been snooping around in these boards and on the web, the problem may be with SEDarwin, or apples variant of the SELinux services. but i'm no IT guru.. so i might just be sniffing up the wrong tree.
i've seen in the Fedora boards, disabling SELinux solves hte problem, but i'm not sure how that translates to the OSX kernel.

Could you please have a share with the IE version?
We should make sure the GPO works on the Internet Explorer version on all Windows 7 machines.

Lost Windows connectivity on 10.4.11

Running OSX 10.4.11 on X-Serve. I have lost PC/Windows connectivity. Server was shutdown for Holiday break and SMB?? did not restart. How do I restart it for the Windows people. Mac side is working fine.

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- Then do the other actions of:

- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

IPod formatted for windows, connected to mac accidentally

I have an iPod video, 30GB. I formatted it for use with my windows laptop.
Then, my mother hooked it up to her macbook pro. No syncing took place and it didn't show up in iTunes. However, now neither machine will show the iPod in iTunes. The windows machine, on connection to the iPod, brings up an error message saying the iPod is corrupted. When connected to the Mac, the iPod spontaneously crashes iTunes even before it opens.
Through a series of unfortunate events, much of my music is not on hard drives aside from my iPod, so any help resolving this issue without restoring the iPod would be greatly appreciated.

Mac Os X will read Fat 16, Fat32(the windows default for iPod) .
I believe it will read, but not write to NTFS.
Windows can not read or write to HFS(Mac OS X format and iPod for Macs) drives.

Sharing Internet with windows, connected by ethernet, using mac's airport

So I have a desktop that doesn't have Wi-Fi and I too cheap to buy anything for it. So I'm trying to use the MacBook's airport to give the Windows internet through the ethernet connecting them both.
I went to internet sharing and entered "Share connection from: Airport" "To computers using: ethernet." and that's all I got up to so far.

Now connect the two computers via an Ethernet Cable and you should have internet access on the PC.
Make sure you set up the PC to use the Ethernet port for network / internet use.

My iPod Shuffle was out of battery so I wanted to recharge it with my computer. However my computer won't recognize the iPod. Windows doesn't recognize it, iPod Updater doesn't recognize it, and also iTunes doesn't recognize it.
I tried to connect it on different computers, without succes.
Anyone that can help me? Help would be highky appreciated.

I had that same problem when I first tried to use
my iPod. If you have a Best Buy near you, try taking
it to the "Geek Squad" at a Best Buy. To fix my
shuffle, they had to crash my iPod and reboot it,
but it ony took about 2 minutes, and I haven't had
anymore problems with my iPod. And they don't charge
for their services either!

Hello,
We are a school that is trying to connect to our server from our house on both mac and pc. Macs work fine but pcs don't.
We have an apple xserve running 10.4 that is connected to our network with an outside ip address.

Please provide more details, as you haven't given us much to go on. Help us help you.
What specifically happens when you try to connect? Do you get an error message? If so, what?
How is the network setup?
Is Windows/SMB file sharing turned on at the server?
Are the appropriate ports opened on your routers to allow SMB protocols through?

Ipod to windows connection without itunes

I am wanting to take some data files using my ipod to another computer that doesn't have itunes. Short of downloainging itunes, will just connecting the ipod to a USB port work? That is, will the ipod be visible in My Computer or Windows Explorer in XP? Thanks!

If you are simply transferring plain text Notes files from your iPod to another computer, then yes; this is possible with simply Windows explorer.
All you need to do is connect the iPod to your computer, go to My Computer, double-click on your iPod's drive, and find the Notes folder.
There, you should be able to drag those files fromt he iPod to somewhere on your own computer.

ODBC gateway in windows connecting local oracle to local mysql

I have setup a test system in my local Vista pc with oracle 11g and mysql. Just installed ODBC gateway and follow the instruction. The listener sid for ODBC started OK. But when I tried tnsping <sid>, it failed with tns-03505 failed to resolve name.
Any suggestions?

Check if the environment for the user that's using sqlldr is correctly configured. ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, TNS_ADMIN, SQLNET.ORA can that user connect using SQL Plus?
This is a connectivity issue for sure. Would also check the sqlnet.log.
Could be the way you call Loader. This format always works for me :
sqlldr username/password@sidname control=controlfilename.ctl log=logfilename.log

AD Radius 802.1x Login Window Connection Problems

Mac Mini/10.10.1
I'm using two profile manager profiles for testing:
1. AD Certificate
    Installs certificate for AD Certificate Authority.
     Requests Machine Certificate from CA
2. Network Settings
     Network Payload:
          Interface WIFI
          SSID our 802.1x SSID
          Auto Join - Checked
          Security Type - WPA / WPA2 Enterprise
          Use as Login Window Config - Checked
          EAP Types: PEAP
          Use Directory Auth - Checked
Issue:
     Certificate services work fine, login window works fine. User is able to login and authenticate to wireless. However users are experiencing problems with computer sleep, roaming on network etc. I can simulate their problems by turning off air port and back on while logged in. What I'm seeing happen is that when airport is turned back on, it begins to connect to the 802.1x wireless network but does not authenticate does not receive an IP address. eventually resulting in self assigned address. If I press the connect button it will then authenticate and work as expected.
Why is it necessary to press the connect button, why does it not automatically connect? Am I doing something incorrect or is this normal behavior?
Going into network preferences, choosing wifi adapter and clicking connect is too much to expect from my users. And it would be annoying even for me if this happened every time I went offline.

need filter by user and computer account, the log should show both authenticate user and machine account name.

Query Window "Connection must be open" error?

If I right-click on an Oracle connection and select "Query Window" from the menu I get a query window, but no matter what I try to do, hitting the Execute button results in :
ERROR
Connection must be open for this operation.
Why does it think this connection is not open?

Inkjet 2800 on different windows connected via network

Hello,
Im using windows 7 Pro, and I can't access a printer which is connected via network on another computer with windows XP.
The problem is that, when I install the printer on windows 7, it works as long it's connected to my computer,
but, when i unplug the printer and reconnect it back to computer with XP, i'm unable to use the priter, although i installed the drivers already.
the printer is shared,i can see it on network, but can't connect to it.
the problem is only with inkjet 2800 printer,
as i use hp Laserjet cp1215 which is on the XP computer, but works fine.

Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a communication issue when attempting to print on two separate printers at the same time.
This will be a communication issue for sure. The computer can only send to one printer at a time. You will have to print to one printer, wait for it to finnish the print job and then send it to the other printer.
There is no way that you can print from one computer to two separate printers at the same time.

Windows Connection Manager Profile Installer Has Stopped Working

Hi all, I thank all who can help me with this problem beforehand and will do so after.
I am an IT technician at a university in South Africa. I am trying to install a custom made VPN program that works perfectly on every other machine but not this one laptop.
It is a Lenovo G580 laptop running Windows 7. Every time I try to install the VPN i get the error message that Microsoft Connection Manager Profile Installer has stopped working.
I have made sure all the updates are installed.
I have done disk check.
I have done System File Check.
I have done Windows Repair.
I have coppied the cmstp.exe and ole32.dll files from one windows to the problem computer.
I have taken permission of both the above mentioned files.
I have done anti-virus scans and anti-malware scans.
I have tested that other applications(not VPN's) install correctly.
I have tested that the VPN installed correctly on other computers and pulled a new one to make sure the application was not corrupted.

Generally speaking, this error can be caused by one or several of the below factors:
a. The dll file is deleted accidentally from your system
b. The dll file is damaged due to virus or spyware infection
c. improper software removal
d. The dll file was overwritten by an incompatible version.
e. Outdated hardware drivers
f. Too many invalid/obsolete registry entries.
g. Related registry entries is corrupted.
I would like to suggest you try the following steps to check the results:
a. Do a system restore to undo recent system changes. If the error is just caused by the file getting corrupted or damaged, performing a system restore would help you to get a fresh copy back and also fix the related error well at the same time.
b. Update the drivers for hardware devices and install any available Windows updates.
c. Test in a new user account. If it works, please refer to Fix a corrupted user profile.

If the individual troubleshooting advice above is unsuccessful, performing a startup repair or repair installation should restore all Windows DLL files to their working versions.
