Windows crashes - No more IRP stack locations

I just installed iTunes 8.0 and after having to "run as Administrator" to get iTunes to work - I then docked my 3G iPhone and within about 10 seconds, I got a windows blue screen with the message - No more IRP stack locations. I tried several things to resolve it, then discovered there was a new windows update that had not yet been installed. I installed it, rebooted the machine - started back up and was able to then dock/sync my iPhone.
Make sure you have ALL of the Windows Vista updates installed to ensure you don't run into this problem.

You can edit your user account to make the machine run like the old windows XP.
Naturally this sidesteps the added security in Vista, but as I install a lot, I'll run the odd risk of infection, most of the attacks thus far anyway, were stealthy from innocent investigations so would have passed security anyway ...
I'm new enough to Vista .... can't tell you how many times I almost put my fist through my new monitor, before I discovered I can tun this bleeding annoyance off ...
Firefox 3 also has recently stopped on of these hijack attacks.

  • No More IRP Stack Locations 0x00000035

I am trying to repair a PC running Windows XP Embedded SP3. Upon boot the system BSOD's with a NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS error code 0x00000035I have found that if I remove add on hardware (CD-Drive, PCI Cards) the system will boot up fine.
I have searched the TechNet database and unfortunately there is not a lot of info on this particular problem. The hot fix that is available is superseded by SP3 and the recommended registry edit has had no affect.
    *Edit*
I should also mention that the system has had EWF enabled up until I started working on it. So I do not believe there have been any recent software (or hardware for that matter) changes to the system.

In order to assist you, we will need the .DMP files to analyze what exactly occurred at the time of the crash, etc.
    If
you don't know where .DMP files are located, here's how to get to them:
    1. Navigate
    to the %systemroot%\Minidump folder.
    2. Copy any and all
DMP files in the Minidump folder to your Desktop and then zip up these files.
    3. Upload
the zip containing the .DMP files to Onedrive or a hosting site of your choice and paste in your reply. Prefered sites: Onedrive, Mediafire, Dropbox, etc. Nothing with wait-timers.
    4 (optional): The type
of .DMP files located in the Minidump folder are known as Small Memory Dumps. In %systemroot% there will be what is known as a Kernel-Dump (if your system is set to generate). It is labeled MEMORY.DMP. The difference between Small Memory Dumps and Kernel-Dumps
in the simplest definition is a Kernel-Dump contains much more
information at the time of the crash, therefore allowing further debugging of your issue. If your upload speed permits it, and you aren't going against any strict bandwidth and/or usage caps, etc, the Kernel-Dump is the best choice. Do note that Kernel-Dumps
    are much larger in
size due to containing much more info, which is why I mentioned upload speed, etc.
    If
you are going to use Onedrive but don't know how to upload to it, please visit the following:
    Upload
    photos and files to Onedrive.
Please note that any "cleaner" programs such as TuneUp Utilities, CCleaner, etc, by default
will delete .DMP files upon use.
    If
your computer is not generating .DMP files, please do the following:
    1. Start > type %systemroot%
which should show the Windows folder, click on it. Once inside that folder, ensure there is a Minidump folder created. If not, CTRL-SHIFT-N to make a New Folder and name it Minidump.
    2. Windows key + Pause
key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Ensure there's a check-mark for 'Automatically manage paging file size for all drives'.
    3. Windows key + Pause
key. This should bring up System. Click Advanced System Settings on the left > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings > System Failure > ensure there is a check mark next to 'Write an event to the system log'.
Ensure Small Memory Dump is selected and ensure the path is %systemroot%\Minidump.
    4. Double check that
    the WERS is ENABLED:
Start > Search > type services.msc > Under the name tab, find Windows Error Reporting Service > If the status of the service is
not Started then right click it and select Start. Also ensure that under Startup Type it is set to Automatic rather than Manual. You can do this by right clicking it, selecting properties, and under General selecting startup type to 'Automatic', and then click
    Apply.

  • Windows crashes when trying to sync photos

I'm a new Nano user and I finally got iTunes through my firewall, playing music, and synching with my Nano. I can load my songs and make playlists. So far, so good.
Today I've been trying to sync up to load pictures, but every time I do, Windows crashes. I've tried searching the support articles and couldn't find this issue before. I've been trying to sync it to a particular file with a select group of pictures: I've tried using different file and subfile locations and I've tried changing the size or number of the photos....but it still happens. Every time my Nano syncs with iTunes to include a photo sync, all of Windows crashes.
Is there something about the photo files (jpeg) that I should know or change? They're all about 300K and all have text names (not digits or symbols).
    Any help appreciated.

    hi Pegasus!
gosh, but this is a weird complex of symptoms that you're getting. i've actually seen then all before individually, just not in a clump together like this.
this will be a long post. i'm going to start with troubleshooting directly related with with the blue screen, and then after that i'll dwell on the itunes-launch-failures/photosyncing-relation angles.
    0x0000001 (0x0000008, 0x0000008, 0x0000000, 0xBFF55036)
    Driver IRQLNOT_LESS_OREQUAL
that can be a fiddly one to troubleshoot. i haven't seen any common denominators in itunes/ipod contexts with it.
    (1) let's try to get the malware possibilities off the table. (i'm usually more worried about that with a 0x0000050, but you're getting a weird bunch of symptoms.) download fresh definitions and run vigorous virus and spyware scans. if your security software providers offer them, run some online scans as well. (they can sometimes pick up an infection even if the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
    (2) have a check through your Device Manager (right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", click "Device Manager") to check to see if there are any warning/alert messages showing up next to any of your Devices.
    (3) have a look through the MS Knowledge base to see if you can find any reported causes of the IRQL_... that look like they might be relevant to your box. sorry, there's a whole bunch of different things to sift through over there:
    search on Driver IRQLNOT_LESS_OREQUAL
    (4) let's also capture a minidump of the crash and send it to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence to the Apple engineers for a look.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
And then send it to a Discussions Host. It doesn't hurt to put the URL to this discussion thread, so that whoever gets it has some context. Also give as much information about the context of the crash (in the email) as you can.
    itunes-not-launching/photosyncing
security software on the PC can be implicated with both of these ... i just haven't seen it associated with both sorts of symptoms at the same time.
Norton Internet Security 2005 is a common cause of error-message-free itunes launch failures, and i have seen it implicated in some odd syncing problems (just not with a BSOD on photosync.)
McAfee is sometimes implicated with odd problems with photosyncing (but not typically with the itunes error-message-free launch failures).
so let's try an experiment. if you switch your security software off prior to an attempt at a photosync, do you still get the blue screen?
    love, b

    Hi,
Jabber is attempting to repair itself from a conflict with the WebEx productivity tools.  However, it is looking for the original install file (.msi), cannot find it and therefore the repair fails.  To work around this problem you need to:
1 - Download the same version of CiscoJabberSetup.msi that is installed.  You can check the version by finding CiscoJabber.exe in your Program Files directory, right click, Properties and on the Details tab there is a product version.
2 - Copy this file to the location fro which you previously installed Jabber.  For example, if you downloaded the .msi to your desktop previously, do the same here again.  If you got this update as part of an auto update, then copy the file to "%temp%".
3 - Launch Jabber - it should successfully repair itself and launch.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

All Office applications will also try to open a temporary work file in the same location as the source file. This implies the source file directory also needs to be writable for this temporary file. Since the default HFS+ driver provides only read-only access, such temporary files will fail to open, and will cause the application to fail.
As a test copy the file you want to edit, say an Excel spreadsheet from the OSX file system to the C: drive on the Windows side and try to open it. If you look in this directory, you should see two files, the source and a temporary file. You may have to force the temporary file to be opened on a read-write file system, by manipulating the folder for temporary files.

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. • Since the 10.9 update -8058 error when copying a folder or file from a windows network server to any other location, why? and how to fix?

I am experiencing a persistant error -8058 when attempting to copy a file or folder from any windows sharepoints to any other server location or to my desktop or locals. Am I the only one or are the others with the same issue since updating to 10.9?
I have tried the finder plist removal suggestion- unsuccessful

I am fairly certain that would not work for me as that is my usaul manner of mounting shares, smb:// or cif://. The enterprise servers do not automount so I commandK. Yesterday when I was troubleshooting 10.9 issues I had to have tech support unlock my account a dozen or more times. So I'm gonna give it a rest until I see an 10.9 update. In my case I don't think Mavericks is ready for enterprise/business use. I am 1 mac vs 350+ PCs.
    Thanks for you help!

  • Windows Crash Bugcheck code 0x24

What can i do about this...blue screen every 2 days...?

    Hi Lamerito,
In addition to what has already been suggested by everyone here,
I download your dump file and here's what I think:
Since I didn’t found any process and thread from dump file and it points to ntfs.sys. I think it might be caused by just disk corruption.
Confirmation: please tell us, have you recently installed any soft that could affect your disk settings such as disk management software? Uninstall them if you have.
To resolve a disk corruption problem: Check Event Viewer for error messages from SCSI and FASTFAT (System Log) or Autochk (Application Log) that might help pinpoint the device or driver that is causing the error. Try disabling any virus scanners, backup
programs, or disk defragmenter tools that continually monitor the system. You should also run hardware diagnostics supplied by the system manufacturer. For details on these procedures, see the owner's manual for your computer.
Run Chkdsk /f /r to detect and resolve any file system structural corruption. You must restart the system before the disk scan begins on a system partition.

  • Windows could not start the Network Location Awareness service on Local computer

i have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop running windows vista home premium media center edition. i have recently been getting an error when trying to view networked computer saying  "connection status: unknown" and "the dependency service or group failed to start". i started by disabling and re-enabling the driver and that did not help. i then brought up the services.msc thing and started looking at the networking services. i noticed that the Network Location Awareness service was not started so i tried to start it. i got a popup message saying "Windows could not start the Netwrok Location Awareness service on Local Computer. Error 0xc000096: 0xc0000096".
i also get an error popup when i try to start the Network List service saying "Windows could not start the Network List Service service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start".
what might i have done to make this happen and what can i do to try to fix it?

    Hi,
    Thank you for the post.
I fully understand the inconvenience the issue has been caused and the current situation can be frustrating. Please try the following steps for troubleshooting.
    1.    Please start the computer in Safe Mode with Network and check the result. If the issue disappears, please perform a clean boot.
For the detailed steps, please refer to the step 1 and 2 in the KB article 936214 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936214).
    2.    If the issue persists, please check the system file by using the command SFC /scannow.
For more information, please refer to the KB article 929833 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833).
If the above suggestions do not resolve the issue that service fails to start up, please understand that debug and dump analysis may be required for further troubleshooting. Also, in most cases, it is necessary to check the source codes. However, debugging is out of our forum’s support boundary. A support call to our product service team is needed for the debugging service. In this case, I’d like to suggest contacting Microsoft Customer Support Service (CSS) for assistance so that this issue can be resolved efficiently.
To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request, please check the website listed below:

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Reauthorizing my computer after windows crashed

    Hi,
My Windows crashed 2 days ago and I had to format my C drive and reinstall everything again. Now with the new installation, iTunes is telling me that I have "one more computer" authorized beside the one I am using now.
Is there a way to remove my old computer from the authorized computers list? And is it possible to view that list at all?
    Thanks

Another Microsoft "tax" and the answer is no.
This isn't a concern until you reach 5 authorized computers.
Check this link under "To deauthorize all computers associated with your account."

My Windows crashed this morning without warning, reinstalled (Which took all day) now when I started iTunes this evening I had to authorize it to play my purchased music, now I have an authorization for an Installation that no longer exists. If this happens again I'll be 5 for 5 then after that will I have to repurchase all my music? Help!

  • Grub system boot messed up after windows crash

I have a dualboot system with Win XP and Arch. Yesterday Windows crashed while i was listening to music. Since then, when i boot my computer Grub throws an error message (i think it's error 17) and doesn't start the bootmanager. But if i boot from a normal Ubuntu-Live-CD an choose "boot from first harddisk" i get my grub manager and i am able to boot normally.
I tried to fix this by manually reconfigure grub like this:
    1. Pop in the Live CD, boot from it until you reach the desktop.
    2. Open a terminal window or switch to a tty.
    3. Type "grub"
    4. Type "root (hd0,6)", or whatever your harddisk + boot partition numbers are (my /boot is at /dev/sda7, which translates to hd0,6 for grub).
    5. Type "setup (hd0)", ot whatever your harddisk nr is.
    6. Quit grub by typing "quit".
    7. Reboot.
    (taken from http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p= … stcount=2)
It seems that my hdX is different to my sdX labels. sda is my linux harddisk, and sdc is my windows drive. But if i type root (hd0,0) i get "Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x7", which means that this is an NTFS drive. So i tried root (hd2,0) (in my menu.lst, booting arch is also defined with hd2,0) and then i get "Error 21: Selected disk does not exist".
    Now two questions:
    1) Why is the labeling different? Why isn't sda1 = hd0 and so on?
    2) How to restore my boot process? (this is slightly more important )

    Alp wrote:
I think you both understood me wrong.
First, i don't need to alter the menu.lst, because grub doesn't show the boot choose menu at all. It just prints error 17 without any chance of doing something.
Second, i know the naming procedure. But obviously in my case hd0 and hd2 are switched, so that sda = (hd2) and sdc = (hd0). I don't know why.
well - you referred to 'sda1' as 'hd0' in your first post ...
as for the remapping of drives, there's always:
    map (hd0) (hd2)
    map (hd2) (hd0)

  • Using numbers 2.3 how do i split windows to view more than 1 spreadsheet at a time?

using numbers 2.3 how do i split windows to view more than 1 spreadsheet at a time?

    Hi seth,
    Numbers vocabulary:
    Spreadsheets (aka: Document)
    contain one or more Sheets
on each of which may be placed one or more Tables
each of which contains one or more cells
each of which may contain either data or a formula.
Spreadsheets open in separate windows. Depending on the contents of each spreadsheet, and the scale at which you want to see it (and the size of your display), you can view more than one spreadsheet in the same manner as you can view more than one of any kind of document—open two documents in separate windows. Resize the windows to allow both to be viewed at the same time. Place and scale the individual documents to permit viewing the desired part of each
Sheets within the same document cannot be displayed simultaneously. You can make and open a copy of the document, then open and view both copies as described above, but this introduces new opportunities to edit the wrong copy. You could Copy a Table from one part of the document, open Preview and go File > New from Clipboard to create a PDF copy of that table (readable, but not editable), and view the spreadsheet and pdf documents as described above.
Tables can be rearranged, or have rows or columns (or both) hidden to permit simultaneous viewing of selected parts of both.
A Table can have Table > Freeze Header Rows and Table > Freeze Header Columns set to keep these rows/columns visible as the rest of the table is scrolled. Or can have a range of rows (or columns) hidden to allow viewing of rows (columns) adjacent to that range visible on the same screen.
Numbers does not support freezing of rows or columns other than Header rows and Header Columns.
    Regards,
    Barry
