  • Edit Window's Fixed Position Causing Problems

Once I've selected text to print and click the Edit button, the edit window opens on my primary (left) monitor (I'm using 2 monitors with the browser on my (right) second monitor) UNDER the Taskbar which is positioned at the top of the left monitor.  Because the Edit window is fixed, I can't resize it; can't move it; can't access any of the tools in the window (because they're hidden under the Taskbar)!!
Why can't the Edit Window "honor" the position of the Taskbar?  At least, allow me to resize or move the window to another position onscreen.

The web is not yet read for this. I wouldn't use it.

  • I just got my computer (Windows XP) fixed and my songs were gone on my ipod

I just got my computer (Windows XP) fixed and my songs were gone on my ipod. I had about 100 songs on my ITUNES and now i have none, and when i plugged my ipod in all the songs were gone too. This might sound complicated, but please answer if you can!

So, did you connect the iPod to an empty iTunes library?
If so, the chances are you allowed it to sync with this empty iTunes and so deleted the songs from your iPod.
If you did and you have no back up of the songs anyplace else, then they're gone.

  • MP3 tags work in iTunes 11 but not in Windows 7 - Fixed

I tagged a bunch of MP3 downloads in iTunes 11, but the artist/track/album and other information did not show up in Windows 7 file information or in Windows Media Player.
The fix that worked for me was to convert to MP3 tags to ID3 tags to version 1.0.
    Steps:
    -Open iTunes
-Find the songs you want to convert in the Songs view
    -Right click the songs
    -Choose Convert ID3 Tags...
-Check the box for ID3tag version
    -Choose v1.0
    -Click OK
Your mileage may vary, of course, but this worked for me and all of the embedded info was properly updated. Note that I did not have album art and I don't know if rolling back the version will affect that. Good luck.

    Thanks turingtest2.
I tried your None>2.3 path and it appears to be a superior method to my original suggestion.
I hadn't noticed, but the track #s did not come through to Windows using my original method. They come through when converting to None then to 2.3. Your method, as you note, also provides the advantage of longer field lenghts. I am sure there are other advantages to 2.3 over 1, if  nothing other than it's closest to the most up to date standard.
I tried converting to 2.4, but none of the data comes through to Windows.
Here is a revised set of steps. Note that this method will clear artwork.
    -Open iTunes
-Find the songs you want to convert in the Songs view
    -Right click the songs
    -Choose Convert ID3 Tags...
-Check the box for ID3tag version
    -Choose None
    -Click OK
    -Choose Convert ID3 Tags... again
-Check the box for ID3tag version
    -Choose v2.3
    -Click OK
Last comment: There may be better solutions using other software such as id3tagit, but the solution above works right from iTunes.

  • Exporting Quicktime Interactive to Windows BUG - Fixed in Keynote 3 ???

There is a problem I have exporting from Keynote 2 to QT on Windows:
When the slide advances - a browser window opens and an error comes up "File not found".
There was a whole discussion a year ago I found about people having this crippling and annoying issue.
Does anybody know if this was fixed with Keynote 3?
My deadline is approaching fast and I don’t want to buy the new version if it is not fixed.
    Powerbook G4 1Ghz/1Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    Powerbook G4 1Ghz/1Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Welcome to the discussions, YoBo71.
No, it has not been fixed and we're not sure if the problem is actually with Keynote or if it's with the way QuickTime for Windows is parsing the file. We DO know that if the Windows PC is using QuickTime 7, then you don't want to distribute Keynote produced interactive QuickTime movies.

  • Windows 7 & Fixed Screen resolution

    Screen Resolution Problem w/ Windows 7 on a T61 (Type 6460-66U).
Seems that the only NVidia driver allowed by Lenovo does not let me change screen resolution from
native 1680x1050 to 1440x900, w/o screen size shrinking to a smaller real estate, framed in black. This, even
tho 1680x1050 & 1440x900 are in same ratio.
I'm not sure if this is from Win7's new "Fixed aspect ratio" or from lenovo not allowing driver to change from the "reccomended resolution" 1680x1050.
+ I searched for a way around this, trying NVidia's "custom resolution" in their control panel,
but not yet figured that out.
+ Also, Nvidia control will not let me do any "change flat panel scaling" options, just reverts.
+ w/ Rivatuner, not found how either.
Me eyes R goin fast, gimme some slack here.

This refers to Windows 2000 but i double checked and it will apply to Windows 7

  • ITunes 10 & iPodService Installation on Windows XP Fix

THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH INSTALLING iTUNES 10 WITH iPODSERVICE ON SOME WINDOWS XP INSTALLATIONS. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE iTUNES 10 ALREAYD INSTALLED HERE'S A SOLUTION (Originally posted in this thread: http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2571010&tstart=0)
NOTE: This is not for the faint at heart, i.e. get your 13 year old son or grandson to help you if needed!
    1) Download 7zip (do a search on google for it).
    1.a) Install it after downloaded
    2) Download iTunes 9.2 setup file from here: http://www.downloadatoz.com/pda-mobile_directory/itunes/
2.a) Make sure to save "iTunesSetup.exe" to a folder somewhere that you can find it and extract files contained in it.
2.b) DO NOT INSTALL iTUNES 9.2 BECAUSE iTUNES 10 IS ALREADY INSTALLED
    3) Open the "iTunesSetup.exe" file with 7zip and extract the contents.
    4) Open the "iTunes.msi" file with 7zip and extract the "iTunes.cab" file ONLY.
    5) Open the "iTunes.cab" file with 7zip and look for the "iPodService.exe" file and extract it ONLY.
    6) Copy the "iPodService.exe" file to C:\Program Files\iPod\bin
    7) DING! All done. You can now open your version of iTunes 10 and everything should work!
7.a) If it still fails, you may need to copy "ipodservice.dll" from "iTunes.cab" to "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.Resources" as well.

  • Has anyone tried the "automatic windows update" fix promised to correct error 0X80240438?

i'm on a work device and do not have administrator privileges to try this out!!
    fix located here:
    http://www.askvg.com/fix-your-purchase-couldnt-be-completed-error-message-when-you-try-to-download-apps-from-windows-8-store/

I'm beginning to think you're right.  My system update to build 9879 failed with an apparent generic failure code and absolutely no clues to help figure out what device is causing the problem.
Someone at Microsoft needs to provide some assistance with troubleshooting the update problems instead of leaving everyone to just hang in the wind!
After being faithful to Microsoft for well over 20 years I guess it's time to move on.
I guess I've stayed around and played around this town too long!!

  • Drop Down Menu / List Not Working + Actual Window Manager Fix

This answer wasn't easy to find and once I did find it there wasn't a fix other then to turn off Actual Window Manager. I found the fix if you want to continue using Actual Window Manager:
    # Open Up Settings in Actual Window Manager
    # Select: Window Settings Tab
    # Add New Window Rule
    # In the "Target Window" Settings for this rule select Firefox as the "Program"
    # Go to the "Start-up" Settings beside "Target Window" Settings
    # In the "Options" area check the box "Block premature appearance of window"
    # Check the box "COMPATIBILITY MODE"
    STEP #7 SOLVES THE PROBLEM
    Profit!

  • WINDOWS 8 FIXES AND MISSES

So... Windows 8/8.1 starting to suck yet?
I do believe that LOTS of people would agree to that, I've been running 8 for about 3 months and have just updated for the second time to 8.1 about a week ago. (Yes, I had to do it twice! after the first it lovingly crashed taking all my apps,
files and the 3 months worth of work with it) I did however have the good sense to back it all up, So no real damage done and that's lesson 1.
Anyways, Firstly I'll just cover a couple things I've noticed about Mr 8 and what I did to out-think or overcome, not too hard but it's a bit of a read so please bear with me:
    1. UPDATING TO 8.1: You may get an error message near the very end of the install stating that it "couldn't be finalised" or some such garbage and gives the error code: 0xC1900101-0x40017. Here's what to do to overcome:
    a) First make sure that you have downloaded and then saved the update in a safe place. The update is 3.62GB so it'll be a waste of time to have to do it more than once. Then remove any excess external hardware that's plugged
in, For example, any extra: mice, keyboards, storage HDD's etc.
    b) Make sure 8 is fully updated both through "Windows Update" and the "Store". However find the update KB2849636 and uninstall it. (not needed for this)
    c) Get the latest drivers for NVIDIA GeForce if needed, ***Link for Drivers coming soon***
    d) Uninstall ALL 3rd party software from the computer, meaning anything that didn't actually come with it.
    e) Disable "Windows Firewall" and "Defender"
    f) Run the "Command Prompt" as an administrator and type:    WSRESET.exe      Then press ENTER.
    g) Restart the system then retry the update, If still not working: Run a "Disk Clean-up", then pressing the "Windows key + R" to bring up the run command type: services.msc    Press ok, Then find and
select "Windows Update" and "STOP" it, Leave the service window open and reopen the "Run Command" and type: %windir%   Press ok again, Find and rename the folder "Software Distribution" to:
SD.old         After, return to the services and restart "Windows Update"
    h) Restart the computer and try install 8.1 again. After installation is complete remember to reactivate your Firewall and Antivirus!
    2. Next another head scratcher: Many people may have noticed an extra partition appear on their primary hard drive after the update usually called something stupid, I have 2 because I have done the update twice. The names
are: ***I'll Print the names soon*** these are, as far as I can tell, some sort of "Recovery" volumes associated with the Win8.1 update. However they don't seem to get used, they only seem to want to fragment something fierce when analysed
by the "Defragmenter" also for some reason can't be defragmented. (I had one at 87% fragmented and couldn't do anything about it, so I haven't analysed them on this update) They don't seem to be causing any problems so I haven't tried to
remove them as of yet, but later I'll perform more in-depth investigations.
    3. I have also got many complaints about the "Start-up Tray" in the program manager, There seems to be odd entries making their way onto the list that make no sense. I recently got one that a lot of people have been talking about. It's called simply
"Program" and there has been debate as to whether or not it should be disabled. Yes you can! All it seems to be is a remnant of a program that wasn't completely or properly uninstalled. I found this program here to root out such trash.
Autoruns for identifying startup programs: ***link coming soon***
It scans the boot system and gives a list of all programs that can be viewed and deleted if necessary.
    4. Lastly just a piece of advice, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE USE PROGRAMS LIKE: Ccleaner, Regclean, SpeedyPC or any other of the like unless you know with 100% certainty what you are doing! They are VERY dangerous programs in the hands of novices,
also Windows provides the "Disk Clean-up, Defragmenter (or Optimizer), and Disk Check" systems anyway and they are just as good and they don't delete half the registry along the way!
Another tip, It's better to install programs to a folder that you have easy access to so that when you uninstall them you can go to that folder and delete whatever may be left after uninstalls and thus stopping the previous problem of start-up menu
    garbage.
If anyone has a problem they would like me to look in to for them or if you just want to comment on this and join in, feel absolutely free to. I enjoy the challenge of working on problems such as this and would be happy to lend a hand if at all possible.
(Completely free of charge as well!)
Thanks for reading, I know I'm not meant to but I have also made an Email address for just this purpose so drop me a line at: ***Email given on request***

    Thanks for info:
    A. Backup before doing anything advanced is recommended but not widely used.
    B. Upgrade on vanilla plain (and updated) operatiing system goes flawlessly. Upgrade on "real" computer may depend on "status" of operating system and applications installed. You may not be the last experiencing troubles.
    C. Software vendors expect that users has nearly unlimited disk size, large memory and latest processor.
    D. It is on you to find anything positive to compensate annoyances. Mental balance is in your hands ;-)

  • Windows 7 no longer recognizing CD/DVD Drive - MS Window stock fix didn't work

Window 7 just stoped recognizing drive for the CD/DVD.
In Bios still see CD/DVD listed in boot tree.    Device Manager doesn't show / list a CD/DVD, so no way to uninstall /reinstall.
Pulled CD/DVD drive, booted machine wihtout drive installed and rebooted.    Reinstalled CD/DVD drive, rebooted and Divice Manager still doesn't show drive.
CD/DVD drive will initiall spin after being incerting a disk but will not auto play or show up when scaning for new devices.
