Windows Defender alerts to send firefox.exe to microsoft after upgrading to 16.0.2

Windows Defender posted an message in Windows Action Center with a title "Review the files that Windows Defender will send to Microsoft (Important)"
This showed a popup message that informed that Windows Defender needed to make a Sample Submission of the following files:
"Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe"
"Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe".
This happen both in my Desktop PC (Win 7 x64 SP1 Ultimate) and in my Laptop (Win 7 x64 SP1 Home), the difference being that in the Laptop's case one additional file was required to be reported i.e. "Mozilla Maintenace Service\maintenanceservice_tmp.exe"

hello shadownate, i think this is a normal process when you are a [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/join-maps-community member of MAPS (Microsoft Active Protection Service)] and chose to submit information about unknown applications. in case microsoft defender comes across an application version that doesn't show up in ms' database yet (which might well be the case for firefox executables immediately after an update), they upload the file and analyse it - this is the way they gather new information to create signatures for unknown threats. Plugin-container.exe & maintenanceservice.exe are part of firefox and won't pose a risk to your system.

Firefox crashes when opening after upgrading to 6.0.2

After upgrading firefox to 6.0.2 firefox crashes upon opening. When I try to open firefox the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" opens up. I tried all the sugestions on the support page. None of these worked. It will open with the computer in safe mode. I can not find where to start firefox in safe mode after upgrading.
I can open it now after running firefox in compatibility mode for windows XP sp2. The problem with this is I have to accept permission everytime I open firefox. If I change user account control settings to not ask every time firefox crashes on opening again.

Sometimes Firefox will hang during startup or shutdown, and still be running invisibly in the background. Usually in that case, you need to "kill" it either by restarting Windows or using the Windows Task Manager. It sounds as though you are familiar with opening the Processes tab, finding firefox.exe, and using End Process.

A couple of other suggestions:
(1) Can you start Firefox in its Safe Mode? Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. You should get a two-button dialog. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset). Any difference?

Firefox won't start after upgrade, it appears on the windows task manager but closing the firefox.exe doesn't help

I upgraded to firefox 4 and it asked me to restart the system, since then it stopped working. it just won't open. I have windows xp and when I click on the firefox icon I see firefox.exe in the windows task manager under 'processes' I tried ending the task but it wont help. i also tried removing and reinstalling.. didn't help either :( I also checked if Kaspersky might be blocking it but it isn't

The only thing that worked for me was installing an older version (3.6) and it started working fine... I dont even want to try upgrading it to 4 again..

I dont fully understand your problem here,
1. Did your computer shut down or 'die' or did you save and then you cant find it?
2. Have you tried looking in spotlight (little magnifying glass up the corner)
3. Have you tried opening the program again? In word and pages, if the program exited forcefully, opening it again will restore the document.

Sounds quite weird that you can't open profile manager or launch the official Mozilla installer. Probably try to reboot, and to scan for malware?

Windows Defender Alert on Boot

Hello,
I'm getting the following message when I first log into my computer:
Windows Defender:
This app has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer. If you're using another app to check for malicious or unwanted software, use Security and Maintenance to check that app's status.
Currently I'm using Avira Antivirus. So I did what the message said and looked at Security and Maintenance in the control panel. There it displays the Virus Protection is On Avira Desktop is turned on. And Spyware and unwanted software protection is On,
Avira Desktop is turned on.
So how can I get the window's defender message to go away?

I went into the Control Panel and searched for Windows Defender. When I try to click on it I get the same "This app has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer." error.
This made me think that the issue was that Windows Defender is attempting to launch even though I have other software in place. So I went to the Task Manager and Startup and disabled Windows Defender there. I guess this should have automatically happened
when I installed AVIRA but didn't. Perhaps this issue arises when you uninstall one Antivirus and then install another without a Reboot in-between. In this case I was removing either AVG or AVAST and installing AVIRA. Please let me know if this sounds
plausible.

Firefox exe dont stop after closing the browser

firstly i open firefox then when i want to close it i press the x button. it closes. but the firefox.exe process doesnt close. so my computer locks. the cpu usage raise 100%. i cant do anything. my solution is closing the process from the task manager. but i am bored doing that everytime. i formatted my pc several times. checked it by kaspersky uptodate. i dont estimate that i have a virus. because firefox did this problem immediately after the pc format. i formatted the pc. then before drivers i installed firefox but it was the same problem again. i like the browser but this grate my nerves. send the massege to my e mail addres [email protected]

Firefox.exe process remains after closing Firefox

I closed Firefox 5 over 45 minutes ago. At the time it closed, I had around 60 tabs open. The Firefox window closed, but now, over 30 minutes later, firefox.exe is still consuming 624 MB of memory. For the record, currently Windows Task Manager shows firefox.exe consuming 00 CPU, 639,772 K Mem Usage and a Peak Mem Usage of 771,296 K.
I'm seen this behavior at other times and, on those occasions, the firefox.exe process did eventually terminiate and release that memory. Why does firefox.exe take so long to terminate? Is this a bug or just a result of the way I use Firefox? I do tend to have a lot of tabs, 60 to 75, open at any given time. I'm guessing that's more tabs than the typical user.

I should go on to add that I have already seen the Firefox Hangs |Hang at exit document and none of these look like the obvious issue. I'm running Java Version 1.6.0_26, so current there. I'm not running any of the listed Internet security software. The only extensions I'm running are Java Console 6.0.26, ReloadEvery 5.0.0 and Xmarks 4.0.1, so not a lot of extensions.

Firefox.exe is gone after deleting XP Microsoft Virus 2012. What do I do?

I finally got rid of this terrible virus, but now when I click on Firefox icon it prompts me to "how would you like to open this file", no matter what I do it says application can not run.
The firefox. exe file is also not in my task list (prosesses).
I guess I just need to reinstall everything? My itunes is gone too, and can't get into anything on control panel. I can get on internet though with no problem.

Probably the antivirus software has made your applications useless while trying to remove the virus. Re-installing should fix that. Hopefully your preferences have not been deleted.

Firefox will not start after upgrade from 3.0.1

I have Firefox 3.0.1. I would like to upgrade to 3.6, but if I try to upgrade to any version, I cannot open Firefox. It is not like the other "Will not start" problems, because in the Task Manager, firefox.exe pops up, then goes away instantly. I have tried using Safe Mode, doing a clean install by uninstalling Firefox and my profile, cleaning the registry, then using CCleaner, then trying to reinstall, but the problem persists. Sometimes firefox.exe doesn't even show up in the Task Manager. I also cannot use any version of IE(even if I wanted to), Safari or Chrome. They all have the same results. I suspect that it is not a problem with Firefox, but with my computer, but I don't what is wrong. Can anyone help me?

Sounds like something is killing off your browsers before they can start. I really have no idea why Firefox 3.0.1 is working somehow, though.
Do a malware check with a few different programs, you need to use all, because not all programs detect the same malware.
For each of these, make sure they are updated after installing, and run a full scan.

I have upgrade firefox 3.6.3 to 3.6.4 but after restarting it doesn't open, it tells "not a valid 32 application" on server 2008 system.

I upgraded Firefox on my workstation running Windows 7 Enterprise (64-bit). The stub installer downloads and runs through the installation, but does not start Firefox automatically. If I click on the link in the taskbar, nothing happens. Same with the one pinned to the start menu. As soon as a click on the browser's icon, I get a problem error message, saying firefox isn't able to connect to the internet. I'm not having this problem with internet explorer, so it isn't the connection. Also, it isn't the firewall; I tried that. I'm thinking it has something to do with the settings....but I'm at a loss! I have the exact same problem. When I go to Gmail the page initially loads, but then will be redirected to the calendar page. This is a repeatable error and only started after upgrading to the latest version of Firefox.

Unable to send text and play music after upgrading to IOS 6.1

After upgrading to IOS 6.1, I am having problems sending text messages (sms) to several of the contacts to whom I was able to send text earlier. Also all the songs I have downloaded previously from iStore have all stopped playing. Being a new IPhone convert I am seriously regretting why I got rid of my Blackberry

I can understand how you are upset, MJ406. I want to make sure that we do everything we can to get the text messages up and running with out any kind of problems.
When you are trying to send these text messages out are you connected to Wi-Fi or the cell network? If you are connected to wi-fi please do me a favor and turn of the wi-fi, try to send a text to see if it goes out without any kind of issues. Then go into Settings, Application Manager, Slide the screen to the ALL section, Scroll to Messaging and perform a force stop, clear cache, and clear data. Once that is done, power the device off and then turn back on. Once it is back up and running you can turn the wi-fi back on (if you had to turn it off) and retry sending a text message again.
